Ferguson Riots Again: Police, Looters Exchange Teargas , Rubber Bullets, Molotov Cocktails: Live Webcast

Tyler Durden's picture

UPDATE: Shots fired...

After more than a week of violent confrontations, tensions continues in Ferguson (following the death of Mike Brown - shot at least 6 times, twice in the head). The second night of quasi-martial-law in the Missouri town has once again erupted into riots (the third night in a row) as militarized police response just hours ahead of the midnight curfew. Protesters have looted stores and restaurants (including a McDonalds) and the once again heavily-armed police forces have responded in force with tear-gas and rubber bullets (to which protesters are responding with Molotov cocktails and returning gas canisters). This shows no signs of de-escalation at all as crowds chant "who polices the cops?" CNN reports at least one protester hit by rubber bullets and multiple injuries. Multiple gun shots heard - police: "leave or be arrested."

The police tactical response was triggered, according to a Lieutenant with St Louis city PD, by an attack on the command post with Molotov cocktails...

Escape from Ferguson...

As The NY Times reports, the autopsy is quite damning...

Michael Brown, the unarmed black teenager who was killed by a police officer, sparking protests around the nation, was shot at least six times, including twice in the head, a preliminary private autopsy performed on Sunday found.

One of the bullets entered the top of Mr. Brown’s skull, suggesting his head was bent forward when it struck him and caused a fatal injury, according to Dr. Michael M. Baden, the former chief medical examiner for the City of New York, who flew to Missouri on Sunday at the family’s request to conduct the separate autopsy. It was likely the last of bullets to hit him, he said.

Mr. Brown, 18, was also shot four times in the right arm, he said, adding that all the bullets were fired into his front.

The bullets did not appear to have been shot from very close range because no gunpowder was present on his body. However, that determination could change if it turns out that there is gunshot residue on Mr. Brown’s clothing, to which Dr. Baden did not have access.

Two examples of police response so far...

"Get the fuck out of here"

and "you're getting mace next time you pass us"

McDs should have several Ronald McDonald Clowns stand in front with ARs ... that would be pretty funny. It's a tad ironic, the CEO of McDonalds is one of the most successful blacks in Merika; hard work pays off.

But I tell you, Looting the only remaining FF joints in town is pure stupid; "dumber then a bag of hammers" as my friend calls it.

What's the right answer?  It's easy to lump the looters and rioters together and aruge they need a beat down but it's also easy to say "fuq da police."  And, yeah, blame the Fed somewhere in there.  But seriously, what woudl you arm-chair strategists actually do in this situation if you were in charge of police forces?

I would fire half of the force immediately, since it was doubled after 9-11 and those extra police are just writing $300 tickets for driving 5 mph over the speed limit. In addition to returning this massive amount of salary and pension funds back to the public, I would also return all MRAPs to the Pentagon. Finally, intense training and team-building so that we are committed to address riot situations if they occur. We don't run away, and I lead from the front line. How is that for starters?

Let's stay focused here.

The police probably should not have shot "the dude" which caused all this crap. If ZH is correct, 8 rounds is a full unload for most handguns if not a RE-load for others (this is allowing for a miss or three given the grouping). Maybe something comes out and this is warranted, but I suspect that won't be the case.

Wholesale destruction of private property ... aka rioting ... should be shoot on sight. Seriously. If folks want to peacefully protest, go right ahead. During the day is good. And not while your carting out hundreds, or thousands, of dollars of goods from businesses.

PoundHashishFerguson is an advertisement to the free shit army everywhere they can steal all they just so long as some guy got shot that shouldn't' have (or something approximate).

The police don't need all this war gear; this is the wrong way to go about the problem. There is a national guard for those problems and elected reps can send them in muy pronto should it be required.

Police, like teachers, used to be noble, but unfortunately these days are more policy tools.

It feels that everyone is intentionally focusing on the worst of everything.

I'd be interested to see your shot pattern in a panic. I love the assumption that he had his pistol set on a bench rest taking measured and precision aim at each shot. It is much more likely he simply started firing and didn't stop until the guy stopped coming at him and given that all the shots were from the front, it kind of supports the cops claims that he was being charged at. Maybe the cops should carry single shot Thompson contenders to give the other guy a fair chance. how about that five shot clip law as it would have likely saved this guys life. Not my idea but just saying.

Sure, a 290lb man crazily charging at me while knowing I have a gun wouldn't worry me in the least. You recon this cop has ever had to shoot anyone before? Have you? Do you KNOW how you would react. The cop wasn't out looking to loot and rob. It is hois job to carry a weapon and question people he may suspect of a crime. We don't know what happened, but it displays total bias to assume the cop is simply an out of control murderer and the victim was simply demonstrating his constitutional rights to challenge authority. Cops are murdered regularly. There are two sides.

I am a permit holder. I have a little bit of training, obviously not cop or soldier training. I know, as a female, I have been told to keep shooting until the threat is annihilated. There is the business of proportional response. If the big guy was after me, you guys would let me shoot him 6 times and let me get away with it.

If cops had a history of behaving well and not being militarized, this shooting might be "read" differently.

I think our cop was afraid and spazzed.

I am not sure what should happen next if this is the case, I would need to know the law. It is clear he felt threatened.

I have other shit to start.

I have not read (though someone may be talking about this, I just have not seen it) but there is something glaring at me no one is addressing: The TV cameras.

These folks may not be protesting as much or as loud if the cameras were not there. I am not saying they should not be there, but I think there is a symbiosis driving this thing. Some of these protesters are getting 15 minutes of fame and don't want to give it up. I imagine meetings off camera where they talk about what they will do for the camera, next.

Just sayin'.

When a thing has a low statistical probability over time, the larger the time line grows, the greater the probability.

Evolution may be slow, but when the millions of years pile up the little changes compound. Overnight, it seems, a new creature appears. Society is not immune from evolution's power of change. Revolutions are part of the process of evolution in societies.

With each round of metamorphosis new results become possible, nay even probable. At some point in the evolution of society the congregational body begins to recognize the cancer of .gov. As development continues, the fittest develop antibodies against this cancer. Note how the white blood cells of the US society were triggered to swarm to Bundy's defense. Societies are developing immune systems all over the globe.  These immune systems are learning to attack societal parasites (sociopaths). These parasitic s have historically drained the life blood of every society in human. Commonly they self promote and replicate unchecked as .govs. Their drain on societies ends parabolicly.

Those with governmental tendencies always turn cancerous and kill their host. If mankind is to survive over the long haul, mankind must develop total immunity to governments.  Mankind must learn to recognize, attack, and expel any individual humans, or small gathering of humans, which try to express the cancerous gene of government.

Consistant however with standing in the street with hands raised.  Wonder how long it took in seconds from the first shot to the last - perhaps he put up an arm against the bullets - what calibre are they ? and lowered his head.

Good aim or a telescopic sight on an assault rifle.  Pistol ?  Don't think so.

Of course, had it been in NYC, Brown would be alive today - cops there don't aim near as well.

I noticed that too. I am not sure how you can determine the relative entry angle on an arm since it is so flexible.

There were multiple witnesses that claimed to have seen him hit from behind. It wasn't a torso shot but could he have hit him from behind in the arm? I don't know and want more detail.

The thinktanks that invented the meme.  The same ones who suggested it was time for Chase Bank to put 1.75" bulletproof glass in front of all their tellers in every city in Kalifornia.  They did it over one weekend in 2010.

The ones for whom Amerika is a great big Gaza.

The cop was either an extraordinary shot or at pretty close range to have that grouping. The last report I read was that two separate witnesses reported that the victim was basically charging head on at the officer. Given the size of this guy and his obvious aggressive attitude I can see why the cop let it rip, even if it was the wrong thing to do. This is why so many are against private citizens owning and carrying guns. The fear that those armed will over react if they feel threatened. This is far from a clear cut case and there is plenty of room for debate, something that most with preconceived notions are not particularly interested in. A wrongful shooting should be prosecuted but only after all the evidence is in. Most are not interested in the slow wheels of justice because it may not yield the desired result.

Apparently its just not safe out there if any of us have a gun, even the cops....you know the ones we are supposed to call that will get there in minutes...when seconds count. The whole thing is bullshit. Justice should be demanded for ALL the perps, police and citizens alike. Instead we would rather have linchings as it is sooo much more satisfying. Lots of hate for government, from Obama down to county clerk. Some is justified, but hate is not about justice, its about retribution.

My point was that we don't know if the cop had reasonable alternatives to shooting, at least lethally. We should judge the evidence. But we make cops carry a gun and make them go to places we likely would not go voluntarily, so it does seem a bit unfair to condemn them for their actions without a fair review. This is the type of thing that has reduced the effectiveness of our military where we put them in harms way and then want to second guess everything they do. This  is just fucked up.

First of all I'm assuming he was using a pistol. Secondly as a person who spends some time at the range, when practicing, especially in a rapid fire manner not taking time for an accurate aim, I will acquire my target incrementally, moving each shot towards my ultimate target. Especially on my first round, if its been a while my first shots will be a little wide, but quickly home in. This is what I'm basing my assumption on. And just as an observation from most shootout scenes, cops traditionally don't demonstrate great marksmanship. Most seem to have to be forced to spend time on range.

So many cops abuse their authority. We all wish some cops would arrest some banksters. They have brought this doubt on themselves. With that said, it is clear many folks on here do not have gun training. If they did many of these conversations I see you having with folks would not be possible or needed. What I am suggesting is that you need to "Forgive them for they know not what they do." They don't shoot, they don't get it, they are afraid. I know, I used to be ignorant and afraid too. I was scared to hold an unloaded gun. I wish everyone was required in school to have gun training. The world would be a different (better) place. More respect. I know my training did a lot more for me than just teach me to shoot. I need more.

All authority is abused and we all need more training in self defense, especially cops. I think many are simply glorified meter maids put on the streets to "defend and protect", when likely they have never had an actual armed conflict with anyone that wasn't theoretical. Even so reality usually hits us in the face regardless of our plans.

No one is weeping for Ibragim Todashev...

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ibragim_Todashev

And no one is troubled, it seems, that the FBI quite plainly executed the guy, then lied, repeatedly about the details, and neither MA state trooper present was willing to do the honorable thing and "rat" on the agent who murdered him in cold blood.

Zero doubt, in that case, that a civilian was assassinated.  But he had a weird last name and, eegads was a Muslim, at least nominally, to boot - so who gives a fuck, I guess.

But here, the mighty NYT remembers its role as defender of the little guy, a voice which cries out from its tower for justice, excepting, of course, with regard to Palestine, but still...  this cop will have to be thrown under the bus.

.Gov can't be seen to be mowing down protesting/rioting/looting blacks.  Salon and HuffPo would remind us all that .gov lacked the decency to kill all those right wing cowboys at the Bundy Ranch, even as they had worked so very hard to paint the man as a bigot, hence, outside the protection of the Coming Law.

No, this is too racial.  MLK's fat, sweaty kid is in the mix, and while not an orator or deep thinker, he's a decent, reasonable man.  Kid gloves...

Then again...  how hard will it be, with a compliant media, to paint those who defy the curfew as "trouble-makers" and looters and so...outside the protection of the Current Law?

Ok now enough is enough.  The people have had enough time to make a point.  The cries for "no justice, no peace" are a canard.  I say this because America's justice system does not happen instantaneously.  Rioting in the name of the lack of justice is a false narrative at this point.  The justice system has not had time to fail.  Be mad that an unarmed guy went down in a hail of bullets but do not confuse the issues.

The current reaction is not doing anything to ensure justice is served.  True justice involves revealing the absolute truth, then meting out the apropritate punishment that fits the crime.  That process hasn't even began and to carry out riots and cause general mayhem in the name of Mike Brown is premature, flawed and intellectually dishonest until the justice system proves do be flawed and wrong.

I am on record many times on this website stating my jaundiced view of the Authority but in an intellectually honest world (which we do not enjoy for the most part) the process must be allowed to run its course before reactions to the justice or lack thereof can be rationalized.

I don't believe the people, nor the Authority should ever accept the killing of citizens, unarmed ones especially as rational.  There are plenty of tools at the disposal that can icapacitate and control without the use of deadly force.

As long as mayhem exist, the normal business of getting to the facts and enacting justice can never occur.  Randomly destroying private property does not serve justice and in fact is the height of injustice when the property owner has zero responsibility in the events that took place and have no control over what events follow.

Time to get out of America, maybe to some small Pacific island. With the rapid expansion of the drug cartels and the welfare class there won't be much left to care about. I'd like to solve:

The shot in the hand was what hit him from behind. Your palms face backward. He felt the shot and dropped to his knees with arms raised, facing the officer. Then he was shot 3 times in the arm and chest. He slumps forward and two final kill shots hit the top of his head and eye.

No preconceived notions here! So the cop shoots him in his right hand, down, while he is running away, then the victim turns, drops to his knees, raises his hands and the cop shoots him three more times in the same arm before shooting him twice in the head.  You have watched too much TV.

Plus, who's job is it to investiage the FACTS (which we probably haven't seen all of them) and then press charges if the officer broke the law?

Or Oldwood's right and the guy was charging all while being shot 6 times...

by the way 6 bullets making target for a cop means at least 10 fired.

As for re-rentry, consider that he was shot once or twice while on the ground - not clear from this, to me, but, seems possible.

If he was shot several times while on his knees, of course, trajectory will tell you that obviously.

Mon, 08/18/2014 - 00:51 | 5107474 Oldwood

Or simply shot in the head while falling to the ground. If the cop is unloading a clip at a raging bull he probably will continue fire until the guy is on the ground. Lots of unknowns and only conjecture here. They should be able to determine trajectories to tell his position when shot and that should tell much of the tale. I don't want to defend the cop so much as show other perspectives. None of them justify the current violent responses. It is just wrong to blame the police for the protestor's violence. I don't care if they showed up with nukes, these people have no right to destroy private property, and the looting is simply adding insult to injury.

But did the victim know that the cop didn't know. What is in question here is not just what the cop knew and did,  but what the victim knew and what were his actions. If he did do the strong arm robbery and assumed the cop saw him as a suspect, given his arrest would have had dire effects on his college future, he may well have reacted in a violent panicked way. We just don't know and should not let our biases pretry the case. The state of mind of those involved is everything here, especially with regard to any premeditation. Even if the cop panicked and responded badly, it is a big difference than acting in deliberate murder, which is what many here are promoting.
