I'd form a perimeter, many blocks away, with cops in regular dress and a small number of riot police. I'd order the cameras out of the area where the mob is gathered. I'd otherwise listen to people more familiar with the area and de-escalate even if it means sacrificing a few more storefronts.

The national guard has a well deserved reputation (as a rule...i'm sure that there are some exceptions). As a former active duty infantryman, we generally looked down on the reservists (and they generally have better training and discipline than the NG units). Hopefully these clowns can avoid a blue on blue incident.

If Brown was running from the officer, OR was standing or kneeling still with his hands up then the officer should not have shot. If Brown was lumbering towards the officer, then the officer should have shot. If scenario #1 above, then yes, this is a tragedy. If scenario #2, then there shouldn't be any remorse.

If a common citizen shot Michael Brown he would have been indicted for murder and held in jail until bail is posted and court date assigned. Meanwhile, a cop is given a suspension with pay much like having a vacation. So if a cop fed up with work and can't see going to work, all he has to do is shoot someone (make sure he's dead so he can't testify) and make excuse as in "fear of his life" and he gets the unscheduled vacation he wanted.

Once the military is on a battlefield, of their own creation, "fore protection dictates they shoot anything that moves, thus the hundreds of shot up civilian cars on the road to Baghdad. You're justifying every shooting or killing done by a cop is perfectly legitimate because he's protecting himself first. You can't draw parallel between countries attacking another to that of a cop killing an unarmed citizen.

You're equating the Russians to our police as if you're saying what our police does in shooting an unarmed citizen is ok because if the Russians can do it why not our police?
