Cameroon Blocks All Nigeria Borders As Ebola Cases Rise, 17 Liberian Escapees Recovered

Tyler Durden's picture

On the bright side, Nigeria claims it is "cautiously optimistic" about the spread of Ebola in Lagos; however, 3 more cases reported and the fact that Cameroon has decided to block all borders with Nigeria because "it is better to act preventively rather than have to heal" suggests things are anything but under control. The 17 quarantined Ebola-symptomatic patients that escaped from a Liberia clininc have been found and put back into quarantine in another clinic. The WHO reports the rate of cases and deaths are accelerating further with 1,229 deaths and 2,240 reported cases with Austria the most recent nation to get a scare as APA reports two cases found.

In Lagos, it was a case of mixed fortunes for the nation, yesterday, in the management of the Ebola Virus Disease..
.

Three fresh cases were discovered, while four of those earlier admitted at the isolation centre in Lagos were discharged.

"What we have now is that, there are four people dead, including the index (Mr. Patrick Sawyer). We have eight in the isolation ward

Cameroon blocks borders to Nigeria...

Cameroon has closed all its land, sea and air borders with Nigeria in a move to help prevent the spread of the Ebola virus, the government spokesman told AFP today.

"All borders (land, sea and air) between Cameroon and Nigeria are closed. Our thinking is that it is better to act preventively rather than have to heal" later those who may fall ill, said Issa Tchiroma Bakary, who is Cameroon's communications minister.

No cases of Ebola have been recorded so far in Cameroon which shares a nearly 2,000-kilometre-long border with Nigeria, where the virus has claimed four lives with about a dozen people infected.

And the 17 Monrovian quarantined Ebola patients have been found...

A group of suspected Ebola patients who escaped a quarantine centre in Liberia have been found and put in another clinic.

The 17 people reportedly fled a facility in Monrovia on Saturday after protesters broke down the doors and looted the building, sparking fears that contaminated items would spread the deadly disease further.

Lewis Brown, Liberia’s information minister, said all the patients have since been accounted for and transferred to the JFK Ebola specialist treatment centre.

And Austria has 2 Ebola cases...

  • *AUSTRIAN PROVINCE SUSPECTS EBOLA IN TWO CASES, APA REPORTS

Two men who arrived in Austria last week from Nigeria have been hospitalised on suspicion of carrying the Ebola disease, a regional Austrian governor said today.

Blood samples were sent to a laboratory in Germany with results expected later today, Josef Puehringer, governor of Upper Austria province said.

The two men were hospitalised in Voecklabruck after developing a fever following their return from Lagos and were currently being held in quarantine, Puehringer said.

Authorities were also trying to locate anyone the pair may have been in contact with in case further action was needed, he said.

As WHO reports...

World Health Organisation (WHO) figures show 1,229 people have died among the 2,240 reported cases in Guinea, Liberia, Nigeria and Sierra Leone.

The latest numbers include 84 additional deaths from 113 new cases reported between Thursday and Saturday.

The UN World Food Programme is preparing to deliver food to 1 million people over the next three months.

“I think now there is a high vigilance in all countries,” Fadela Chaib, a spokeswoman for WHO, told reporters in Geneva. “I can't remember the last time we fed 1 million people in a quarantine situation.”

But apart from that, it's all under control

Hemorrhagic fevers are about as bad as things get, out there in the wild. We've been living on borrowed time, though, maybe still are. However I don't think this round is The One. You won't know when The One has shown up, it will come out of nowhere -- no warning, no reporting, no WHO charts. Just come out of nowhere and mow people down like a terrible machine.

Even as bad as it is, this is probably not The One. But it's wanting to be, and that makes me think the one that will unmake us is the next one or perhaps the one after.

In WHO's report last Friday for Tues-Wed 8/12-13, Liberia's numbers of 116 new cases and 58 deaths constituted an overwhelming 76% each of the 4 country 2 day totals of 152 new and 76 dead, and this morning WHO's 3 day, 4 country numbers for 8/14-15-16 only included only either 1 or 2 days for Liberia, at 48 new and 53 dead.

Either Liberia or WHO or both are probably now doing the Lisa Jackson/EPA/TEPCO/EU "lie when it gets serious" disappearing numbers trick.

The area that should be quarantained is Liberia, and tomorrow's WHO numbers (around 3 pm EST) for 8/17-18 should reveal either the extent of the EVD spread, or else the degree of official coverup and suppression. If WHO again tomorrow uses an asterisk to explain why only 1 of 2 days of Liberia's totals are included in the 4 country, 2 day report, or WORSE, why NO DAYS are included for Liberia, then it's time to search for some reality from Dr. Henry Niman here:

Tomorrow's 8/20 WHO 2 day new case/death EVD report will be for 8/17 and 8/18 for the 4 countries, and any repeated and unexplained omission of 1 or BOTH Liberian days (or other 3 country omissions) from the totals will render further WHO EVD reporting a meaningless scam:

Shoot-on-sight order in Ebola-wary Liberia

Liberia's armed forces have reportedly been given orders to shoot people trying to illegally cross the border from neighbouring Sierra Leone, which was closed to stem the spread of Ebola.

Soldiers stationed in Bomi and Grand Cape Mount counties, which border Sierra Leone, were to 'shoot on sight' any person trying to cross the border, said deputy chief of staff, Colonel Eric Dennis, according to local newspaper the Daily Observer.

The order comes after border officials reported people continued to cross the porous border illegally.

WHO has announced the 3 day 8/14-15-16 totals for new Ebola cases and deaths, a surprisingly low 113 new and 84 dead. Closer examination reveals that they have employed the Lisa Jackson/EPA/TEPCO data elimination scam by, without any more explanation than an asterisk,  only reporting 2 of the 3 day totals for the worst, most rapidly rising country of infection, Liberia.

Tomorrow's WHO release of the 4 country 2 day 8/17-18 new case/death totals will reveal that they are fully intending to permanantly bury new case/death numbers from the most infected country Liberia, whose new case/death numbers constituted 76% of the 4 country totals in the last WHO report, so as to understate and obscure what is probably an emerging worldwide pandemic.

If they are expecting a huge number of, as of now, untracked cases to come on line, but they don't have all the numbers in yet (many experts are saying due to logistics issues in Liberia, the numbers are vastly under reported) I think the choice to report 2 day data has more integrity than not reporting at all. Also, they don't want to panic folks. But that is my guess about what is up here, we are getting ready to hear BIG damn numbers.

Edit: If they pull a BLS and start lying here, they are done and no one will trust a damn thing they say if they are caught doing it. For now, I am willing to give them the benefit of the doubt.

Tue, 08/19/2014 - 16:25 | 5116308 franzpick

Last week's Tues.-Wed. Liberian new cases of 116 were 76% of the 4 country total of 152 new, and Liberian 2 day deaths of 58 were also 76% of the 4 country 2 day total of 76 deaths.

For making the following unexplained notation in today's report, to wit that only 1 day of 3, Aug. 15th, is included for Liberia in what is a 3 day, 8/14-15-16 total report, puts WHO, IMHO, entirely in doubt. See the last line:

" * Information from Liberia, throughout this update, is from 15 August, 2014. "

The reported numbers are becoming increasingly meaningless. As hospitals close, aid and care workers die, and people scatter out of urban areas into slums and rural areas the actual deaths and new cases will simply be -- unknown. Just unknown. You can estimate what they ought to be, but nobody will know.

If we are not at that point already, I'd give it another week. They'll keep issuing numbers but you'll notice they are not changing much and maybe are decreasing (fewer new cases) but the news will continue to be disasters, closed borders, human tragedy, bodies in the streets, waves of refugees, the whole thing.

This is what out of control really means. We never had control -- we only just had a grasp of the problem -- and shortly we won't even have that.

To be perfectly honest, there never really was anything they could do. Keeping a lid on it was about it. Wait for it to burn out. Block borders. Avert your eyes and don't give yourself nightmares while all Hell runs loose in Africa.

Next time will be worse. Potentially a lot worse.

And the time after, even worse still. Just unbelievable.

Every year we are more people and the bugs get faster and smarter and it just keeps getting worse every time -- until at some point we don't exist any more.

That is how this story ends, folks. It has to end some day you  know, and this is the most likely way it ends.

I wasn't being obnoxious when I originally posted this earlier today, but this time is always different...

This raises some interesting questions in the context of Otzi the iceman, his 19 relatives currently living in Austria, and fears of a global pandemic.

If there actually is a highly lethal global pandemic (beit ebola or anything similar), there are 3, and only 3, options-

1) YOU were born with a natural resistance to the disease
2) your body can be manipulated to develop a resistance to the disease (either by surviving the disease or receiving a vaccination)
3) YOU will die of the disease.

Mankind can't hide from fate (just as an individual will not be able to hide from ebola), yet mankind constantly refuses to accept its fate and move on. Can kicking may be an occupation, but it is never a solution.

Decimation means reduction by a tenth and was used as punishment in the Roman legions for crimes such as mutiny or mass desertion. They were divided up into groups of 10 and drew lots. The one who drew the lot was executed by the other 9. Crassus used it in the 3rd Servile War (fighting against Sparticus), and Caesar threatened it in his war against Pompey. This disease kills 6+ out of 10, so the reduction would be much more severe than mere decimation. To bring this down to a personal level, If there are 5 persons in your immediate family, stastically speaking, at least 3 would be lost. Which of them are you willing to contribute towards the goal of population reduction?

It will be interesting how the men of the west react in the face of this great shadow. Run, pray, or cheer. Moot, in the face of this plague. This beast cares none about what silly games are played or what names it its given.
What will you do when this beast comes to your door? Because it will.

Self flagellation with chains  was big during the plagues.

That was a belief in God punishing sinners, so if you punished yourself maybe God would not punish you as much.

I dont have that kind of faith, do you?
Besides i haven't read anywere that it worked.

And:

The US’ commendation came on the back of more good news yesterday that four more patients who had contracted the disease had been discharged and declared free of the infectious disease.

Yeah, moar good news.

I read the headline as 'Cameron blocks all Nigeria borders' and thought, at last that idiot has woken up and is actually being a leader for the UK.  Sadly a second reading confirmed my longer-held beliefs about him.

I had the exact same reaction and of course, as you did, corrected myself.
Mr Cameron being Jewish there is a natural sympathy for non-white immigrants and refugees to come into Britain and the US for that matter, and let's add Australia and New Zealand for good measure.

The mess in Mizzou has been perfect for keeping Ebola off the radar.  Unfortunately it will not be as easy to sweep under the rug as Mylaysian ariliners are.

Instantaneous infection rate (smoothed over three data releases) is now:

19 Aug 14 - 46/day *

15 Aug 14 - 54/day

13 Aug 14 - 40/day

11 Aug 14 - 37/day

08 Aug 14 - 54/day

06 Aug 14 - 55/day

04 Aug 14 - 57/day

02 Aug 14 - 43/day

29 Jul 14 - 38/day

27 Jul 14 - 23/day

23 Jul 14 - 12/day

17 Jul 14 - 10/day

Morbidity: 55%

Partial: 5.1%

(Date above is day WHO statistics were posted, e.g 02 Aug is compiled data as of 30 Jul).

http://www.who.int/csr/don/en/

* Estimated by adjusting the Liberian data (which only covers a two day period). There are other unusual aspects in the Liberian dataset, such as the flip in the new deaths to new cases ratio, which had been running less than 0.7 for the past month, yet is 1.1 for the latest release.

STOCK UP, if you can, on food, supplies, fuel, drink and seeds. Pandemics have waves and just when you think it's done, it flares again. In a pandemic, we will, likely, lose all modern conveniences and all stores will close. Try to have a source of alternative energy. Whether it's Ebola or something else, we should all be preparing for what's to come.

Approximately.  The big test will occur with next week's figures. If there's a similar increase then mathematically this thing is out of control.  Batten down the hatches.

Always assume there are more... Dead, hiding in the bush, sick at home. Family buried him in the back yard. Witch doctor told him to take this medicine & come back to see him in the morning... Assume there are many more and stock up. This is our opportunity to CYA. Take advantage of it. And know Ebola IS airborne.

Oh, my dear God in heaven. We're offering amnesty to illegals, from countries that have Ebola, who are now in America. First thing they'll do is bring their relatives, from western Africa, to America. Our politicians are doing everything they can to ensure we have Ebola in America. Learn how to protect you and yours, now.

Over decades I have seen America become a Culture of Corruption in every field. Health insurance companies, CDC, NIH, FDA, WHO... all of them are corrupt. All have their agendas which, usually, revolve around making money for the individual. These days, doctors are, purposely, given poor information and support to help him help his patient. It's rampant. Most doctors mean well but they just don't have the support they need so it's up to us to learn about Ebola. Knowledge is power. Read, read, read. And know, Ebola is airborne.

The STATIST W.H.O., other world health 'authorities', and their corporate presstitutes, all want you to believe that the Ebola EVD epidemic is 'IMPROVING' because of 'ZMAPP': the reality of the on-going out of control pandemic can be seen in other more independent sources:

http://fluboard.rhizalabs.com/forum/search.php?search_id=active_topics

http://www.liberianobserver.com/news/%E2%80%98nimba-may-be-quarantined%E2%80%99

http://rt.com/news/181072-ebola-liberia-plague-villages/

Tomorrow's WHO new 2 day case/death numbers for 4 countries for 8/17 and 8/18 will reveal the continuing growth of the EVD outbreak, or else it will show the ability of national and WHO authorities to suppress and contain the facts of the pandemic, as WHO did this morning by NOT INCLUDING 2 days of new case/death Liberian numbers in the 8/14-15-16 3 day 4 country report totals.
