Chinese Fighter Crosses Within 30 Feet Of US P-8, White House Blasts "Provocative Action"

Tyler Durden's picture

It appears China is as happy as Russia to show just how little respect it has for the US' superpower 'hegemony' status. In May China flew close to Japan's airforce; in June, Russia flew nose-to-nose with the US; and now The Pentagon reports a Chinese fighter plane came within 30 feet of a US Navy Poseidon 8 plane. The 'Top-Gun' move came after several passes across the nose of the P-8 about 220km east of China's Hainan Island. The US has registered "strong concerns" with the Chinese government about "unsafe and unprofessional" conduct and The White House called the incident a "provocative action."

As DPA reports,

The United States charged Friday that a Chinese war plane made a "dangerous intercept" of a US Navy aircraft over international waters this week in the South China Sea.

The US has registered "strong concerns" with the Chinese government about "unsafe and unprofessional" conduct by its air force that put the safety of the US crew at risk, said Rear Admiral John Kirby, the Pentagon spokesman.

The incident happened Tuesday, within 220 kilometres east of China's Hainan Island, Kirby said.

The Chinese war plane made several passes around the US Navy's Poseidon 8 plane, coming at one point within 9 metres of the P8's wing.

The Chinese plane passed the nose of the P8 at a 90-degree angel, showing its belly and most likely its weapons load, Kirby said, and conducted a barrel roll over the top of the P8 at 15 metres.

"This kind of behaviour is not only unprofessional. It's unsafe," Kirby said. "It undermines efforts to continue developing military to military relations with the Chinese military." Kirby said he was not aware of any radio communications from the Chinese plane before the intercept.

"The message we are sending back to China is that it is unacceptable," Kirby said.

This is not the first time...

In 2001 a Chinese jet collided with a U.S. Navy surveillance aircraft off Hainan Island, killing the Chinese pilot and forcing the Navy plane to make an emergency landing on the island. Washington severed military relations with China after that episode.

And The White House National Securty Advisor blasted:

  • *RHODES CALLS CHINA JET INCIDENT PROVOCATIVE ACTION

*  *  *

So if its not the military, what else is backing the USDollar's hegemony?

After consulting the Series G code book we find the following:

November 26, 2014 - The next Malaysian Airlines event will occur

January 23, 2015 - The next major attack on the US Homeland with global implications by "agents of foreign entities"

Stay tuned for updates or changes to the schedule

This happened in the middle of the "cow tongue" of Chinese-claimed territory in the South China Sea.  China has been doing the equivalent to Vietnamese and Philippine navies to extend its territorial authority over islands down there.  Sounds like USA does not want to let China take that territory without an argument and is flying deliberately through the "cow tongue."

No, the middle of the "cow tongue" is about 800 km farther south.
This area is close to the back of the throat.

This may trigger a real war. I am worried about the Chinese nukes  exploding south of the border. 150 miles is not that far for N-bomb(s).

I hope the opposite. I don't mind seeing another mid-air collision. This time I'd like the Chinese jet to land on Hainan Island and the US spy plane crash into the sea. It will be fun to see how the US government will react. Will they ask China to turn over the fighter jet or the pilot for prosecution?

I am getting tired of this BS. Sorry but I have to side with the US on this one.

If China flew one of its planes within  140 miles of our border, no doubt we would scramble fighter(s) to follow it. Fair enough.  But to zig and zag in front of it and threaten a collision? I don't think so. (Something like this happened 10 years ago when a hot shot Chinese pilot flipped his mig and crashed into our cumbersome surveillance plane, and our  plane was forced to emergency land in Chinese territory where the Chinese rushed in to grab the data and hardware?)

But for once, I guess I am hawkish on this one. Another Chinese jet tries that stunt again-shoot it down. No threats. Just do it.

From my understanding of the Oriental culture, they may create a collision to avoid firing the first bullet. This is referred as just cause. I think 2001 incident was one of those.

I'm glad you know what a scrambled US jet will and won't do to a Chinese plane 140 miles from our border.  My only clue is what the Government tells me and as our government is now Baron Münchhausen writ large, I confess I don't know what the fuck is going on.

More likely it is a yawn because it is a yawn.  The Chinese jet probably had no idea a Raptor was vectored in on it from Japan or Okinawa and orbitting with coordinates plugged in from the P-8.

I agree the herding away, muscling or shouldering, would occurr, but without acrobatics.

The pilot was ordered to act aggressively. He would not make a career decision,or risk a long

vacation in the salt mines, without approval from his superiors. This probably went right up to the top.

More to this story I think.Maybe the ferret was jamming radar or voice transmissions.Something....

Those electronic warfare fellows were not just viewing porn and pulling themselves.

Ferrets have been doing a dangerous job for some time and they know the risks.

The KAL 007 disaster was most probably a completely screwed up Intel operation of this variety.

Wouldn't be hard to dress up a ferret as a civilian airliner.I could see a huge lawsuit if it went wrong...

Too many diversions in the news.Volcanos in Iceland and Fukushima are huge things that we can't do

anything about but get minimal press coverage. Why is that?

NO. TPTB wants the asses of the American people more than that of Russia and China. For now at least. Before you fight Russia or China, you obtain absolute control over the US population so that nobody will dare say no when you force them to risk their lives on the battlefield for TPTB.

You guys think that the Americans are bad with the constant bombings, wars, monetary inflation, and other nonsense?

Just you wait until the Chinese are top dog. They have a list that is 2,500 years long, of scores that they want to settle. Go read up on Chinese history, and anyone who crossed paths with the Chinese are on that list.

You have no idea how bad it is going to get.

I've lived in China. I've lived in the US. I feel far safer in China, and seen few signs of a desire to conquer and exploit the world's economies for their own benefit. Rather, I've watched a country lift itself out of the mud and become a world power through daily grind and hard work. Gotta respect that.

At the same time I've seen the US progressively taken over by non-contributors - lawyers, advisors, bankers, government, marketers, and a zillion other variations of paper-pushing "facilitators" that produce precisely nothing. Combine that with the numbers of unemployed at the bottom of the economy, and there's nobody left doing any productive work.

and seen few signs of a desire to conquer and exploit the world's economies for their own benefit.

Then you simply were not looking. What is happening in Africa, Europe and - yes - the USA is exploitation for their own benefit.

It's going to get worse, not better.

China will be a huge economy, but continue to insist that they are poor and need resources right up to the moment they begin taking them by force from others.

"We are so sorry. We have so many people, and we are a poor nation, we have so little...XYZ is a rich country and we need those resources..."

I hear this, now, and they won't ever change this view of themselves because it is to their benefit to pretend to be poor, weak, over populated, China.

They are going to play the weak victim card for many decades to come.

I pity the rest of the world, because when China becomes as powerful as the USA they will be far worse and the USA are bad now.

If China had its way as the USA does now, many things would happen but the first is that internet freedom of expression would be dead and the entire global network would have to adhere to Chinese standards of content.

What I am typing now would not be allowed in a Chinese controlled global internet.

They would pull DNS registrations of everything that they disagree with, far more than the USA DOJ abuses that now. It would be far, far, worse.

You guys who don't like the USA think that if the USA just went away everyone would hold hands, sit around the fire, and sing Kumbaya.

What is more likely is that things will get worse, not better.

The Chinese are immensely intolerant, ignorant, control freaks who cannot tolerate you saying something they disagree with.

China has scores to settle with a dozen nations. Mongolia, Japan, Vietnam, Russia, India, all of the neighbouring Asian nations who have Chinese territory, France, USA, Britain, Austria, Germany, Philippines and Hungary are the first that come to mind.

Every single treaty China signed they consider ''unfair" and thus null, unless they get all the benefit and make massive sums and gain territory.

It's going to be bad for the world, just wait and see.
