I believe it was an astute ZH poster who pointed out that Germany, after 100 years of blood, terror and calamity, has finally achieved its war aims of 1914: the dismemberment of the Russian empire, a European customs union under German leadership, and the weakening-unto-farce of France and "Great" Britain. If at all possible Angela and her heirs will avoid choosing sides between Russia and America, but will triangulate between them as delicately as possible.
Ultimately, though, a choice will be forced on Germany... by the declining USA via the Bush dictum: "with us or against us". Personally, I think Germany's choice is still up for grabs....
