Merkel Slams US Hegemony? "America Can't Solve All The World's Problems Anymore"

Tyler Durden's picture

First Russia and China, then UAE, Egypt, and Turkey... and now it appears Germany (following a phone call with Putin) is pulling the rug out from under US hegemony - just as Obama's warmongery ramps up...

Which is odd because just yesterday, President Obama (who never lies) stated "The United States is and will remain the one indispensable nation in the world..." adding that "no other nation can do what we do." Perhaps he is wrong?

“Even a superpower can’t solve all of the problems alone anymore,” German Chancellor Angela Merkel says.

Merkel did not stop there...

Seems like she is returning to the offensive from the defensive...

I believe it was an astute ZH poster who pointed out that Germany, after 100 years of blood, terror and calamity, has finally achieved its war aims of 1914:  the dismemberment of the Russian empire, a European customs union under German leadership, and the weakening-unto-farce of France and "Great" Britain.  If at all possible Angela and her heirs will avoid choosing sides between Russia and America, but will triangulate between them as delicately as possible.

Ultimately, though, a choice will be forced on Germany... by the declining USA via the Bush dictum: "with us or against us".  Personally, I think Germany's choice is still up for grabs....

What possible imaginary metric is she using to come to that kind of conclusion? Hollande is a socialist and he has spent is entire life as an enemy to the free market and to any kind of sensible economic thought process. He should resign and check into a retirement home to be supported for the rest of his life by the harmful state policies he supports. He is a useless, corrupt and Ideologically bankrupt sack of waste and should never have entered the public sphere. The same can be said of most major world leaders today including Obama.

Re:  The same can be said of most major world leaders today including Obama.

If that's true (which I personally think it is) that means "leaders" MUST be "corrupt and Ideologically bankrupt sack of waste" in order to be picked to lead their respective societies.   Otherwise,  there would be variations in different societies resulting in something other than what you said being true.

Wed, 08/27/2014 - 13:31 | 5149897 Charles The Ham...
Charles The Hammer Martel's picture

The most effective leadership that resulted in the greatest Economic growth and periods of creation of wealth were the direct result of policies and conditions that prevented or suppressed stupid people from voting. Those who contribute the least in society should not wield the same political powers that those who create jobs, create wealth and foster a productive environment for a community to flourish have. When American elections became a popularity contest instead of an important choice resulting in prosperity or economic suicide, we were doomed from that point on.

Ok, fine.  What about the REST of world (as you noted).   It's the same result everywhere.   The smart-n-savvy people of each society run the show for themselves.

So, now what?

Wed, 08/27/2014 - 20:33 | 5151977 acetinker
acetinker's picture

Stupidity is the wrong criteria.  There's lots of fairly stupid people who contribute to society.  I should know.

Charity begins at home, no?

The real rub arises when the recipients of said charity are allowed to vote themselves more 'stuff', and the contributors are coerced to comply via the power of the state.

I forget the calamity, but when the nascent US congress pondered using the public purse to mitigate, member Davy Crockett said, "It's not yours to give".  He was exactly right.

How come there are signs at our national parks that read "Please don't feed the animals.  They will become dependent and lose their ability to fend for themselves", but inner cities are chock-full of actual humans (I'm being generous, here) who would perish absent their 'feeding'?

So, what are the criteria to be, then?

If you derive any part of your existence from .gov, you don't get a voice.  This would include politicians, soldiers, cops, teachers, .gov contractors and their employees and so on... but most importantly, it would include any organization- and all of its employees who were bailed out by the Fed.

That doesn't leave many out, does it?  Still, those are the ones expected to foot the bill.  They should be the ones with a voice.

Thu, 08/28/2014 - 20:45 | 5156569 acetinker

Oh, and i forgot lawyers, or as they like to call themselves: Attorneys.  They operate (they call it a practice.  I don't want no mofo who is merely practicing to represent me, in any case) in the realm of codified law, which is not The Law, at all.

Any attorney is bound by the bar (the British Accreditation Registry) to support any outcome which would benefit the state.  How many members of Congress are attorneys?

You don't get a fkn voice, either.

When did America solve the world's problems, apart from the very arguable WW2?

If it isn't causing many or most of the instability in the world directly, it is providing for it and insulating it from any repercussions, as in Gaza:

Nobody cares about Gaza. That is an cesspool of inbreds who can't relate to the real world.

I realize everyone who promotes Gaza's agenda feels that ISIS should invade the USA. You need to put things in perspective:

ISIS regulars - 50,000+ (maybe I'm a little high but I'll give them the benefit of the doubt.)

Pennsylvania State Deer Hunters (opening day) 1,000,000+. These are the numbers for one state.

Estimate of US military veterans - 21,000,000 (all ages).

I think we are at the point where the Western World is tired of the Middle East Inbred induced problems and are looking for a simple solution to fix that. I expect if a battle were to break out (call it a new crusade) don't be surprised if there is a run on Piggy Puffs to be used to stuff down the throats of those ISIS related trophy kills.

Hegemony hegemony hegemony hegemony hegemony.

And you can misspell it too if you want: Hegemoney.

So it's more on-topic that way. See bankers all hold hegemoney over average Americans.

Now pat me on the head and tell me I'm a clever demon.

It's going to take a lot.  The population (average American) doesn't track down independent news sources, and with the MSM working in full collusion with the political/banking sectors, they are fed a steady diet of false information.  The revolution you ask?  There is a scene in the movie/documentary "Idiocracy" that will probably be a fairly accurate depiction of the system working until it doesn't.  The scene is where switching from Brawndo to water to irrigate crops leads to massive layoffs and breaks their entire economy.  So, a comparable scenario would be if the EBT cards suddenly didn't work.  CAT 5 Chimpout and a broken Walmart in real terms.  Or, if the Federal government "repurposes" 401Ks, and some uppity old timers begin voting from the rooftops.

Oh, that.

Those are the 'Global Warming' climatology simulations that failed to predict the weather for the last 18 years and counting.

I guess there is a rough resemblance between the 'observed' and 'forecast' slides, but is much less accurate than the 200-year-old Farmers' Almanac prediction.

Once you filter out all the caveats for the NAO you get a prediction that it will get colder in the coming months.

What a useless collection of asshats, to tell us nothin gmore useful than that winter will be colder than summer!!!!

Look at it from Chalky's perspective.  He never had a dad, so what he's doing is projecting the concept of magical thinking to a national level.  "If dad was here, he'd fix this mess!"  Chalky beleives that the government is the dad he never had, that could fix all his problems.  The reality is that the government is made up of petty bureaucrats and functionaries that get off work at 4 pm, and play candy crush while sitting on their fat asses at "work".

Naturally US will have to be the one solving everytning - are we going to let the Chinese start meddling all over the world  - have military installations all over ?  Absolutely not.

US will never get over itself and will have to (1) Be the world government or (2) Break itself trying to fight everyone everywhere.Either way, it's not going to be pretty.

oh, those europeans are so advanced and mature.  they have no racist bone left in them.

that's why the uke's and the russe's are so in tune to each other.  there is simply no dispute about who is the 'slav' underneath. they are all one big happy family.

and the finn's, and the latvian's.  they's all be's lovin' each other.

and of course, the germans have forgotten all about the russian separation in ww11, just as the dutch have forgotten about the

german invasion, well, it wasn't really an invasion.

which is why germany gave itself away to the turks, holland to the morrocans, england to just about every ruddy country, france to north africa and the list continues.

You won't have heated discussions going on in Europe, as you have in USA. Sure there is racism, but it's a different kind of racism. Afroamericans came to USA by force as slaves, so they are victims and can play the victim card in any discussion. But I am far away to even remotely understand the discussions in USA about racism. It's a very complicated issue and there are several layers of complexity, which I don't know.

The Turks and North Africans in Europe migrated to the country voluntarily. Their position in an argument is worse, because it's easy to tell them "I told you so" or "You don't like it that way, you can leave the country".

You really think, that after 80 years the Dutch have problems with Germans or the Germans have some beef with Russia? You have no clue at all and you should at least visit some of these countries to understand.

i don't know who you are, or what your purpose.  yes, the majority of dutch still don't like or trust the germans very much.  and let's not talk about the french and the british.

so - i would not imagine that the germans in general really love the russians.  the russians did a really good job 70 years ago.  it's a long time, but there are still a few people that remember.

and it is NOT 80 years.  it's hundreds.  hundreds. 100's.

besides, i do have a clue, and lived in a few of these countries, for a number of years, and was shocked how deep the resentment and hate still lingers.

so, according to your theory - the ukrainians have absolutely no resentment towards russia?  they love them?  they just don't like being 'invaded'?  but - but?

i suspect you live in mom's basement somewhere in middle america, and as your avatar proclaims, you enjoy being a stupid sadistic pain in the ass.

:)  wish you all the best.  open your eyes.
