In his remarks today, POTUS was explicit - as he has been in the past - about the comprehensive strategy we'll use to confront ISIL threat.

As our strategy develops, we will continue to consult with Congress, and I do think that it'll be important for Congress to weigh in and we're -- that our consultations with Congress continue to develop so that the American people are part of the debate.
But I don't want to put the cart before the horse. We don't have a strategy yet.
I think what I've seen in some of the news reports suggests that folks are getting a little further ahead of where we're at than we currently are. And I think that's not just my assessment, but the assessment of our military, as well. We need to make sure that we've got clear plans, that we're developing them. At that point, I will consult with Congress and make sure that their voices are heard.
But there's no point in me asking for action on the part of Congress before I know exactly what it is that is going to be required for us to get the job done.

It is often unwise to take your eyes off a problem for long because when you look back you might find that things have gone horribly wrong, this is the case in Iraq and Syria.
The lyrics from a song "slip sliding away" come to mind as a way to describe the massive investment made in Iraq by America. Recently the group called ISIS shocked much of the world by swiftly capturing Mosul in an offensive that allowed the group to take control of major parts of northern and western Iraq. On June 29, 2014 the Islamist militants declared an Islamic "caliphate" in an area straddling Iraq and Syria. More on what is happening in the article below.

All he was saying is that they're starting bombings in Iraq and bombings in Syria will begin after they can piece together a Sunni political solution for the long term. That's a better strategy than to Shock & Awe and then figure the rest out later. Also, his Russia strategy was that we'll continue with sanctions and use force to protect NATO countries as needed (Ukraine's not NATO). This is all pretty reasonable. I don't think Obama is bad on foreign policy. It's his policies at home and with the economy that suck.
Also, my theory is that elements in the CIA have gone rogue ever since the Cold War and somehow pull paychecks from the Treasury still and manage to fuck shit up everywhere in the world. Kind of like Fight Club.

If Americans joining the military want to continue to perform as cattle fodder, and/or as a mercenary army be my guest. I would strongly discourage anyone from joining the armed forces in any capacity. I actually saw an armed forces commerical a couple of days ago espousing protecting freedom and democracy around the world. I thought I'd fall off my chair.
