Putin Says Everything U.S. Touches Turns Out Like Libya Or Iraq

Tyler Durden's picture

Having been quiet for a few days, comfortable sitting back and watching NATO, Europe, and the US escalate each other's talking points to a frenzy of populist revolt, Russia's Vladimir Putin has come out swinging this morning:

  • *PUTIN: NO MATTER WHAT U.S. DOES, IT TURNS OUT LIKE LIBYA, IRAQ
  • *PUTIN SAYS UN CAN'T BE FOREIGN POLICY TOOL FOR U.S., ALLIES
  • *PUTIN: EUROPEAN LEADERS FAR FROM SHOWING INDEPENDENT THINKING
  • *PUTIN SAYS RUSSIA IS COUNTRY THAT DOESN'T FEAR ANYTHING

In addition to discussions of The Bolsheviks, agreeing Stalin was a tyrant, and slamming liberal economic models for creating crises, Putin notes his approval rating is high because "he is confident he's right."

Some more fun soundbites:

  • *PUTIN SAYS BOLSHEVIKS BETRAYED NATIONAL INTERESTS IN WWI
  • *PUTIN SAYS UNFORTUNATELY SUCH PEOPLE IN RUSSIA TODAY
  • *PUTIN SAYS LIBERAL ECONOMIC MODEL LEADS TO BUILDUP OF CRISES
  • *PUTIN SAYS NOBODY DENIES STALIN WAS A TYRANT
  • *PUTIN SAYS LEADERS WIN SUPPORT BY BEING CONFIDENT THEY'RE RIGHT
  • *PUTIN: FIGHTS AT UN SOMETIMES FIERCER THAN DURING COLD WAR
  • *PUTIN SAYS UNITED NATIONS NOT ALWAYS EFFECTIVE

And perhaps of most note... just as Obama pronounced yesterday that US would not engage militarily:

  • *PUTIN: RUSSIA FAR AWAY FROM BEING SUCKED IN GLOBAL CONFLICT

But...

  • *PUTIN SAYS RUSSIA IS NUCLEAR POWER, STRENGTHENING CAPABILITIES
  • *PUTIN: RUSSIA STRENGTHENS ARSENAL TO FEEL SAFE, NOT THREATEN
  • *PUTIN: DON'T THINK ANYONE SEEKS LARGE-SCALE CONFLICT W/ RUSSIA

*  *  *

So - just like the Cold War - military build-up on either side and constant escalation in tensions...

Putin really is starting to sound like Hitler. Hitler was absolutely convinced Germany should have won WW1. He couldn't accept the fact that Germany was crumbling. They were literally pulling lead pipes out of the ground to make bullets, and people were starving. Now Putin is saying bolsheviks were against imperial Russia's national interests? Russians were starving. Rising up and murdering the tsar was 100% morally justified. The interests of the people should be the primary interests of the country.

Your argument doesn't make sense.  Are you saying Russia is collapsing?

As for the Bolsheviks, I think it's hard to argue they were in Russia's best interests.  Killing the tsar and his family was probably the right thing to do, but the Bolsheviks didn't exactly leave it at that, did they.

And your argument fails under Godwin's Law.

Dear Spungo,

You suggest Russia is crumbling but see this letter letter (or manifesto) recently published by a Ukrainian and picked up by the Vineyard Saker.  He sees Russia as rising -- but read what he says.  It's an alternative view and an absolutely remarkable statement:

"Manifest" by Andrey Avramenko, Kharkov I envy the Russians, I envy these "katsaps" and "the Moskals"!

I envy their Olympics and their army. I have many friends and relatives in Russia. I see how they change and grow. They believe their President. They believe in their army. They are proud of their great history, achievements and victories.

It was once our common history ... victories and achievements. Not so long ago. They have found their ground. They don’t care about the West we worship. They move on and grow, despite of what we are told on our TVs and various social forums. I know that it’s us who are losing, and not them. We have become weaker, and they have gotten stronger.

No matter how loud we keep shouting "Glory to Ukraine!" we can’t stop it.

Not so long ago we were gloating when they had Chechnya.

Today the Chechens are no less Russian than the Russians themselves. They are ready to fight for their revived and great country, of which they are a part. Today we are the one to be frightened with the Chechen battalions. How did this happen???

They were killing each other just yesterday. But the reason is simple: the Chechens were able to remember that they were Russian, and they were part of the great Country and the Great People.

We gloat when they have terrorist attacks and disasters.

However, they overcome them over and over again and become stronger! Even though the whole world is against them!

They fall and rise again. Stand and grin. And just spit blood through their teeth.

We are screaming that they are slaves. That they will soon fall apart, the oil will fall, NATO will attack, and they will be struck down with another punishment. But they are us! We spit on our own reflection. On ourselves.

We must remember that we are a whole. And once we begin to understand and realize it, only then will come the feeling that once our ancestors had. A sense of inner strength, hope, faith, and pride that we are also the Russians.

It doesn’t matter who our ancestors were: Ukrainians, Tatars, Jews, Buryats, or Uzbeks. It doesn’t matter who we are by faith: Catholics, Orthodox, Muslims or Jews. This is not important. What’s important is that we are Russians! That we're a part of the Great people and the Great country.

Yes, our Great Country and our Great People still have a lot of problems. But if we remember that we are Russians, we will change everything forever! Everybody is afraid of that.

They are afraid that we will remember and will be together again.

That’s why they are building spider webs of lies and deceits. This lie and hatred is being maintained by us and in Russia.

They do not allow us to wake up. And if we do not remember who we are, you will never wake up.

About the situation, occupation and others.

Who shouts the loudest that we need to protect "our" independence, unity and freedom? The same officials, oligarchs and parliamentarians. They are terrified that they will have to answer for everything that has happened to our Motherland over the years.

Maybe this is not the occupation? Perhaps, this is the liberation? And our people came, when we lost all our hope, when we almost gave up.

Perhaps, we need to stand together and destroy all these lying politicians, oligarchs, mayors and officials, who are foaming at their mouths and screaming that we need to go and die! To die for their villas, yachts and castles, for their bank accounts, for their freedom to rob us, and for freedom from answering for their actions.

I understand that this Manifesto will be cut out from the web. There will be thousands of angry comments, screams that I'm a traitor, that I was sold out to Putin, that I am katsap and Moskal. I don't care. I know that the truth is with me.

I am a patriot of Ukraine, a true patriot, and now the fate of my people and my Ukraine is being decided.

Either we remember who we are, or we will perish.

I love my Ukrainian people, our ancestors and our culture.

I'm Ukrainian, but more than that I am Russian!

Andrey Avramenko, Kharkov

Dzhuga_shvili means son(shvili ) of a jew(Dzhuga) in Georgian.

Stalin married into Kagan family (in Khazar King), you know that Kagan family, Victoria Nuland (fuck the EU) is married with.

I wonder how many trolls are employed to “correct” our thinking. Judging from some of the comments, I'd say at least two are trying to peddle their Master's propaganda through various aliases.

I think the last competent US leader on Putin's level would be Eisenhower. He tried to warn us, but “we the sheeple” did not understand how important his message about the military-security-industrial complex was to their children and great-grandchildren.

Bottom line is that the US is operated by idiots who believe they are geniuses, patting themselves on the back every time they redefine a statistical metric to ignore a problem instead of addressing the root cause.

The blowback from decades of international meddling, murder, and mayhem is just getting started. We made ourselves global enemy #1, now we have to live with the consequences.

No, i didnt know that in poland? I am not surprised. I know Poland had to accept major league expensive public infrascturtue projects for consideration into the EU. Poland is being forced to build a modern rail network, instead of air network which makes more sense for their geography. The really scary thing is that the westeren cabal lets these countries to enter the eu/nato, savage them with insane debt, then call on them fight their self created wars. Ukraines gold being confisicated the crazy loan deal from the IMF. The west and east are savaging the the old satiellate states! Moreover the chinese have been buying out the "-iztans" countires stealing gas from gazprom and pissing Russia off. Oh, is the game over?  There're plenty of pieces left on the board.

If Putin advised Viktor Yanukovych badly  --  and he did -- at least he showed the world, whether they want to believe it or not, that he and Yanukovych did not embrace the Army and violence to put down the mob in the Maidan.

While the leaders of Europe, Rasmussen, Barasso, Ashton, Cameron, Hollande, Rutte, and all the other phony little leaders took to the Ukrainian neo-Nazis as if their  philosophy hadn't invaded them 75 years ago.

We know now that sewer scum rules Europe today and if they decide in their selfrghtousness to take the world down, good riddance.

Sorry ekm1 but this comment is simply inane.  I could give you chapter and verse on US violence around the world since the end of the Cold War, but I think you know the score.  It's also worth keeping in mind that our unconstiutional wars in Serbia, Iraq, Libya, Syria and now in Ukraine all had one thing in common -- all of these countries werer friends and allies of Moscow when we got to work on them.  Washington has had Moscow in its cross hairs since the fall of the Berlin Wall.  Moscow is resisting (as it has every right to do.)  Hence, V. V. Putin's telling comment: "We Russians will not be cannon fodder for the New World Order."

YES!

"In their paper, "Construct Validity of Psychopathy in a Community Sample... Salekin, Trobst, and Krioukova write "Psychopathy as originally conceived by Cleckley (1941) is not limited to engagement in illegal activities, but rather encompasses such personality characteristics as manipulativeness, insincerity, egocentricity , and lack of guilt - characteristics clearly present in criminals but also in spouses, parents, bosses, attorneys and politicians, and CEOs, to name but a few. (bursten. 1973; Stewart, 1991)...As such. psychopathy may be characterized...as involving a tendency towards dominance and coldness. Wiggens (1995) in summarizing numerous previous findings..indicates such persons are prone to anger and irritation and are willing to exploit others. They are arrogant, manipulative, cynical, exhibitionistic, sensation-seeking, Machiavellian, vindictive and out for their own gain. With respect to their patterns of social exchange (Foa & Foa, 1974), they attribute love and status to themselves, seeing themselves as highly worthy and important, but prescribe neither love nor status to others, seeing them as unworthy and insignificant. Fuck, this forum looks like a KGB propaganda discussion. I would really like to see americans under communists. They will sure be easily to get to comply to *any* official KGB directive and accept any fucking moron to dictate their lives, as long as there is an enemy this KGB fights against (America, Obama in this case).

Wake up people, this fucking polite, armed, green men already invaded and destroyed Cecenia, Georgia and now Ukraine. There are still frozen conflicts in Nagorno-Karabach, Osetia, Abhazia, Transnistria. In the Baltic Republics there is an important Russian community and a fragile equilibrium because of Russia imperialism. Finland, Poland and other current or *future* Russian neighbours are starting to be vary of the renewed aggressivenes of Russia. The Russian interests are well represented in ex-Soviet block countries and economically the Russian influence is huge.

If you think that US is bad compared to Russia, you know nothing of what Russian occupation means. You need to travel to a city outside Moscow (or even Moscow and try to say something that is not in line with the Party line). The current Russia is an empire based on pillaging other countries and exploiting its own serfs.

No one (except in your delusions) is advocating Russian occupation of the US.

Nor does anyone want to live under a totalitarian government like the old Soviet Union.

That is why the current US government policies (Pentagon global domination, NSA spying, torture, assassinations, habeas corpus denial, TBTF corruption, militarized police, "Patriot" laws, etc)

should be OPPOSED and changed.

Because the current US path is headed exactly toward totalitarian rule.

Huh?

Georgia, under its Jewish dual citizen Israeli defense minister, decided to renew an assault on South Ossetia, which for whatever reasons, largely having to do with ethnicity and language, did not want to be part of Georgia - increasingly colonized by the NATO and Israel.

So Georgia killed 16 Russian peacekeepers, and invaded South Ossetia in force.

Then the US cried foul when Russia decided to smack Georgia back.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F22QbvgfBxY

Abkhazia did not become a blood bath only *because* of the threat that Russia would destroy any invading Georgian force.

Russia has had little or even nothing to do with the other conflicts you list.

If you think America is so great, you should have seen it before the changes rammed through after the new pearl harbor of 9/11.

I suppose you blame Russia for that as well, right?

Sounds like psychological PROJECTION... mastered by the CIA/DIA

"Reverse Blockade: emphatically insisting upon something which is the opposite of the truth blocks the average person's mind from perceiving the truth. In accordance with the dictates of healthy common sense, he starts searching for meaning in the "golden mean" between truth and its opposite, winding up with some satisfactory counterfeit. People who think like this do not realize that this effect is precisely the intent of the person who subjects them to this method. "

So USA can bomb or invade and occupy or harass ANY country in the world they want to but Russia cannot place its military where they want to WITHIN their own borders.

it's NOT Russia but USA who attacked Iraq in 1990.

USA or any other country for that matter are not interested in helping anyone. The only reason countries interfere in each others affairs are to pursue their own profit interests. Eg. the main profits of war go to the arms and ammunitions industry, surveillence industry and to the politicians who act as an agent of the industries.

People are encouraged to distrust each other and conflicts are instigated, using media as a tool, so that arms and ammunitions sell and profits are made by a handful of people at the cost of lives of others. Politicians are purchased so that they declare wars on other countries. Honest politicians working in the interests of the majority of population never have the money to win elections.

Welcome to modern day illusion of DEMOCRACY.

did he say the Bolsheviks were mostly Jews in a nation that was under 7% [at most] Jewish?

Did he note that the neocons were and are Zionist, and mostly Jewish?

Has he noted that much of the over-the-top, anti-Russian and anti-Putin rhetoric (and I don't mean fair criticism of how he handled Crimea or some of his domestic policies) has come from Jewish authors and pundits? 2% of the population - but how many MSM news sources can *you* name that are not either Jewish owned/managed or disproportionately staffed with Zionists?

At some point, it begins to look, to an honest mind, that International Jewry once again has Russia in her sites, as perhaps do other groups, Alex Jonestown's "globalists" and the banks and MIC, sure... true enough... but n the political and media and it seems NGO arena (FDD, USAID, Soros)the wildly disproportionate presence of Jews is stunning - while the silence about it in the press is merely to be expected.

Frankly, if international, organized Zionism or Jewry per se are once again targeting Russia, you know it is not for reasons that are good for the Russian people, or 98% of the rest of us.
***

What did Putin do, especially vis a vis Bush/Obama/Blair - that so gets the panties of ignorant twats like nmewn in a twist?

He watched NATO expand, and US military presence grow all around Russia's borders. He watched the US invade one of the largest oil producing nations in the world on a pretext, with evidence fabricated mostly by Jewish neocons (Office of Special Plans - google "the lie factory" at mother jones).

He watched the CIA interfere all over Latin America, over and over, and he watched the US protect Israel from diplomatic and economic consequences of massive, unequivocal war crimes in Palestine and LEbanon - over and over. He watched the US interfere in Libya, setting up a private central bank and buttressing the petrodollar scheme, and backing a puppet regime the "terrorist" average people of Libya don't support - he watched drone wars on Pakistan, Yemen, Somalia, and Sudan, as well as an increasing troop presence all over Africa. He watched the US arm ultra-violent Jihadi mercenaries in Syria, while alo continuing, with Israel, to support terror groups in Iran - which is not working on a nuke but has every reason to be.

Then he watched, for the second time in 10 years, the US meddle in the internal affairs of Ukraine - a nation nowhere near the US borders, but in Russia's backyard.

He has probably read "the Grand Chessboard" and knows the IMF and EU wanted to drain Ukraine of its wealth while stoking Ukrainian ultra-nationalism, which meant stoking anti-Russian feeling (hence your street nazis - currently being whitewashed out of the narrative though the evidence is ABUNDANT of their role at Maidan)...

So what did he do He initially suggested Ukraine could have deals with the EU *and* Russia - the EU said no, speaking, of course, for NATO and the IMF.

He knew NATO intended to target the Black Sea fleet - which would be a red line for any Russian leader, but especially given American hyperinterventionism. So he sent a small number of additional troops to Crimea - enough to stop a Ukrainian/covert NATO advance, and called for an election.

Crimea, a part of Russia proper for hundreds of years until the 1950s, is still majority ethnic Russian, and voted to rejoin Russia rather than be subject to the puppet regime in Kiev.

As to the breakaway republics, it seems likely that he provided some aid to ethnic Russian separatists, but it is also likely that NATO was and is providing military and tactical support for Kiev's putsch regime. Evidence of their targeting of civilians is all over the internet - so Putin could sit and watch ethnic Russians be killed in their homeland, on his border - or he could provide them some arms to defend themselves while calling for talks - which in essence Kiev and NATO rejected at every turn.

But for nmewn and the paid CIA trolls at the NYTimes - Putin is he bad guy, the imperialist, the newest new Hitler, while the EU and US are beacons of freedom, economic equity, and peace.

Why does nmewn think this?

Simple: he doesn't know what he is talking about, and he is a reprehensible, inveterate twat.

Are you refering to the 2nd Armored Cavalry Regiment  - about 3,600 soldiers - which replaced 1st Armored Division (about 16,000 soldiers)?

Or maybe you meant the Separte 173'd Airborne BDE- about 3,600 soldiers -  which has been in Vincenza Italy since 1943?  It stayed, that's true.  Now it does the mission that 1st Infantry Division - 16,000 soldiers - used to do when Putin came into office.  Let's see, 16,000 turned into 3.600.... and that is an increase... right.

Or maybe you mean the 12th Combat Aviation Brigade? It replaced the 170th Regiment that was disbanded, and the 2nd Stryker Brigade. (Ergo 2 are gone, and were replaced by one alone.)

You can see the details of the 'expansion' here: (expansion in the same way that a minus-sign is the same as a plus sign)

He knows the score and that the Jewish Bolsheviks were directly responsible for the ethnic warfare against the Russians in the Red Revolution and Red Terror, as well directing the terror organizations, Checka, NKVD, Gulags, later KGB, and East German Stasi. They were Stalin's henchmen for starving and murdering 7-10 Million during the Ukrainian Holodomor in 1932-33, as well. Same situation we now have with the NSA-CIA-Mossad-MI6, DHS, DOD, and the same ethno-mafia using terror and attempting to cause chaos and destruction all over Europe and the Middle East, while their ethnic cohorts in control of the Western corporate media run the propaganda and cover for them. Third world immigration and the massive illegal immigrant invasion are their prefered ethnic bioweapons of the day.

there has been a persistent effort to paint "putin lovers" as a terrrrrriiisst .org in support of the enemy rather than, ironically, picking the globalist choice to rule the world. putin and russia is not the choice. brics and the nonaligned are the choice. we wish the usa would get onboard a much more stable diversified pool of assets rather than the current abusive dollar system allowing the current asset raping atmosphere as things to buy begin to run out.

funny how the russians have always taken a matter of fact approach to world politics and their own foreign policy. from brutalizing their own people to banging shoes on a podium to yelstin's drunken rampage of plunder to putin's obvious savvy. compared to the planned obfuscation(sic?) of usa politics they are all generals of the world, f troop to james bond. then along comes "we have no plan" barry(shaka bruddah) peace brah, obambam to tell us as much, once again the most transparent .gov in recent memory(at least as far back as shrub).

Aassertions that Russia 'loves Gold' are empty.  They don't mean anything other than that the Russian oligarchs collect gold.

The Western oligarch bankers love gold too.  They love it so much that they don't want you to have any of it.  They lease it out from PUBLIC treasuries in the market and then BUY it in to their PERSONAL treasuries  at discounted prices.

People's implied assertion that Russia's love of Gold equates to a future fair gold standard is similarly empty.  Putin just contradicted it.

The 'hard currency' (hard because it clinks in your pocket) 'Gold Standard' has been the CENTRAL plank of classical liberal economics for two hundred years.  Putin just slammed those liberal economics.

Putin JUST NOW SAID HE DOESN'T BELIEVE IN CLASSICAL LIBERAL ECONOMICS.  He believes it leads to depletion of resources and booms and busts.  He is matching the rhetoric from the US Federal Reserve WORD FOR WORD.

MEANWHILE, Putin governs through HIS FRIENDS - OLIGARCHY.   He also regulates the Russian economy, foreign trade, and conducts foreign policy in general for the benefit of his friend's enterprises - CORPORATISM, a.k.a. FASCISM.   PUTIN supports and directs, through his CB, the fiat currency known as the Russian Ruble.  The Russian Ruble most recently defaulted sixteen years ago - AT PUTIN'S COMMAND.

Putin's policies matches those of the 'crooked NY and London "markets" move-for-move, policy-for-policy.  The difference (if there is one) is that he is more confrontational about it.

People who want to romanticize Russia's political class are talking and acting in a vacuum of 100% ignorance.   They need to do some research and get a friggin' clue.  There are MOUNTAINS of information about Russian regulations and prohibitions to free enterprise that ABSOLUTELY CONFIRM WHAT I AM SAYING - for those who are willing to use their own heads rather than parrot propagandists.

Off-topic: Ebola has mutated 250 times during current outbreak.

Not sure if ZH has covered this yet?

"data show that the virus is rapidly accumulating new mutations as it spreads through people. "We've found over 250 mutations that are changing in real time as we're watching," Sabeti says.

While moving through the human population in West Africa, she says, the virus has been collecting mutations about twice as quickly as it did while circulating among animals in the past decade or so.

"The more time you give a virus to mutate and the more human-to-human transmission you see," she says, "the more opportunities you give it to fall upon some [mutation] that could make it more easily transmissible or more pathogenic."http://www.npr.org/blogs/goatsandsoda/2014/08/28/343734184/ebola-is-rapi...

Yes, I just posted a link to NPR, forgive me. This article in NPR was the only one I saw citing a number of mutations -- other articles just said it had "mutated repeatedly".

A commenter, maybe it was Miffed?, had discussed the danger of increased speed of mutation once the virus passes through larger numbers of people.  It would be interesting to hear more on this study.  It seems that this study was conducted using people from early in the outbreak.  I wonder what the results would be if samples were taken from the more recent patients.

The only thing that's mutated is their story, as facts show them to be lying.

Given that viruses have been proven to mutate, and that they are likely to accelerate mutation when they move through larger numbers of hosts, is it unreasonable to think that ebola may have undergone multiple mutations during this outbreak?  More mutations than the "experts" are even aware of?

The "facts" that "show them to be lying" -- do you have some of these facts to share? I will be happy to see facts that prove that ebola has not undergone any type of mutation during this outbreak.  I will be overjoyed to see these facts if you would like to present them.

I would like to see that this is the same old ebola that has existed for decades, that it is no more easily transmissible now than it ever was.  I would like to believe that it has not mutated, that the experts know what they are dealing with, and that the laws of nature have finally been harnessed by man.  Somehow, I doubt this.  I think it fare more likely that this virus is doing what is natural to a virus -- it is evolving and adapting in order to replicate itself more quickly and more efficiently.

That might have been me.

It is not a case of "increased speed of mutation", since the average rate of variation is 3% per kilobase-pair per replication cycle (for single-stranded viruses). What we generally see is that when moving into a new host, the virus appears to "fine-tune" itself to optimise the virus-host interaction (from the virus's viewpoint obviously), simply because those mutations providing a "better" infectivity / transmissibility, will be preferentially selected over the "native" wild type.

So, what we see is a case of the virus appearing to become a more "effective pathogen" in the new host, as the number of host - to - host passages increases. Unfortunately, these "improvements" do not necessarily equate to improved host survival (as many have proposed with finger's crossed I think!)

  • *PUTIN SAYS RUSSIA IS NUCLEAR POWER, STRENGTHENING CAPABILITIES
  • *PUTIN: RUSSIA STRENGTHENS ARSENAL TO FEEL SAFE, NOT THREATEN
  • *PUTIN SAYS US 'DEFENSIVE' MISSILE SHIELD IS AGGRESSIVE PROVOCATION.

So...

In Putin's world pointing nuclear missiles at someone who has not militarily attacked you is 'DEFENSE'

BUT

Keeping a shield that shoots down those missiles is 'OFFENSE'.

Oh, I get it.

Russia is backwards land.

So shields are offensive, and missiles are defensive in backwards land.

And in backwards land, the statement that missiles are for security not attack means....?

Appears nothing has changed with foreign policy there since 1917.

Nothing has changed in America since the early 18th century with our deliberate genocide of the Native Americans and our robbery of Texas and California from Mexico, not unlike Russia's action in Crimea.

Nations that live in felonious houses, shouldn't hurl perjured allegations.

BTW, do you know where the Ukrainian ATC tape is?

Yeah yeah.

In 2002 when Bush withdrew the US from the 30 year old ABM treaty which disallowed the missile shield you think so much of, that was just another peaceful act of the US, like the invasion of Iraq 2 years later.

BAH.

gcjohns, I am having a hard time telling whether you are just thick as a brick or a certified troll.

If you had the ability to think just one step ahead you would understand that Russia's position makes perfect sense.

When you have a ballistic shield right on the borders of the targeted country (Russia), you alter the calculus and balance of forces that have been painstakingly negotiated, essentially voiding any agreements.

The ability to intercept missiles close to Russia provides a "defensive capability" which converts into "offensive capability" by moving away from the MAD concept into the "acceptable losses" or "minimal losses" territory, thereby making a first strike, or a decisive strike possible.

Gaining the ability of a first, or decisive strike is an offensive capability.

"The masses have never thirsted after truth. They demand illusions, and cannot do without them. They constantly give what is unreal precedence over what is real; they are almost as strongly influenced by what is untrue as by what is true. They have an evident tendency not to distinguish between the two."
