This Is How ISIS Is Building An Airforce

Tyler Durden's picture

The Islamic State is nothing if not ambitious. Despite no record of current 'airplane' assets in their annual reports, ISIS has begun detaining and forcing Syrian pilots to train militant fighters to fly stolen aircraft. According to CNN Arabic, the pilots (and their planes and helicopters) were abducted when the terrorist group gained control of Tabqa military base. It appears that if beheadings, executions, and whippings are not enough to strike fear into the hearts of the locals, then (just as America is tryiung to do), an air assault will greatly demoralize. We can only imagine how this changes Obama's strategy (and just where are all the rest of Syria and Iraq's airplanes stored?)

Via Al Arabiya,

The Islamic State of Iraq and Syria said in a recent tweet it is forcing detained Syrian pilots to train militant fighters to fly stolen aircraft, CNN Arabic reported on Saturday.

In an account reportedly associated with the militant group, ISIS said in a tweet the pilots were abducted when the group gained control over the Tabqa military airbase in Raqqa Province.

ISIS seized the airbase earlier this month. The major airfield houses warplanes, helicopters, tanks and other artillery and ammunition, which were also confiscated by ISIS, according to several media reports.

ISIS did not provide any information about the nature of the training, according to CNN Arabic.

*  *   *

As NYTimes reported,

The fall of the Tabqa air base followed the group’s seizing of two other Syrian military bases and gave it effective control of Raqqa Province, which abuts the Turkish border and whose capital city, Raqqa, has long served as the group’s de facto headquarters.

Photographs posted Sunday on Twitter accounts sympathetic to ISIS showed bearded fighters in the air base, standing next to a destroyed fighter jet and appearing to cut the head off a dead soldier.

Something tells me they won't need many engine or avionic techs.  Wouldn't surprise me if they a) modify the cockpit (disable the ejection seat and add handcuffs) and b) omit practicing touch-and-go's...

Today you're the boss spoke're talking no discussion.

My people today is talking aside and looking at the floor, saw.

You invented this state and devised to invent all the darkness.

You who invented sin forgot to invent.

Forgiveness.

Although you.

Tomorrow there will be another day, I ask you

Where will hide the huge euphoria.

How will ban when the rooster insist on singing,

New water sprouting and we are loving without stopping.

When the time comes that my suffering will charge interest, interest.

All this repressed love that scream samba contained in this dark

You invented the sadness now have the finesse of disinvent.

You will pay and is doubled every tear that rolled my sorrow.

Although you tomorrow there will be another day.

Inda pay to see the blooming garden which you did not.

You will see the bitter day dawn without asking his permission

And I will die laughing that day is coming

Before you think.

Although you tomorrow there will be another day

You'll have to see the morning and guzzle reborn poetry

As will be explained seeing the clear sky

Suddenly, with impunity

How will stifle our choir singing

In front.

Although you tomorrow must be

another day

You will get hurt

Etc. and such

Outro dia

Você vai se dar mal

Etc. e tal

Don't the aircraft the aircraft have to have ENGINES???

The one in the photo doesn't have an Engine.

Spare parts?

Ammo?

2nd, 3rd and 4th echelon maintenance capabilities?

EDUCATED pilots?

I seem to remember about an Iranian commercial aircraft that landed in Tehran that caught on fire becuase the ground maintenance crew put AIR into the tires instead of nitrogen.

Unless these knuckleheads get their act together their planes/pilots will make good lawn darts if they can get the planes off the ground in the first place.

I give these idiots an A for effort but an F+ for having and illiterate and ignorant bunch.

If the plane fell out of the sky due to ground crew incompentance INSHALLAH!!

total BS pr stunt...the Syrian air force has been bombing this area for the better part of a week now. I seriously doubt any of the runways are useable even is there are still functioning aircraft on site. in order to retain anything usefull they would have had to move any captured aircraft and equipment away from the base. on top of that I find it even less likely that the atct is still operable, my guess is ISIS is talking a lot of shit but that base is largely useless to them.

as many have already pointed out it takes a long time to train somebody to pilot a combat aircraft effectively so even if the base had a magic force field protecting it and the aircraft were left in pristine condition it would be a long time before it would present any serious threat to the Syrian forces. still more Syria has a fairly advanced and densely layered air defense system which is certianly more than capable of handeling aircraft like the mig 21 shown above. given the fact that none of the forces fighting against the SAA have had any kind of air support that system remains intact and fully functional. my guess is anything that leaves the ground from that base, even if it were a realistic possibility, doesn't stay in the air for long.

so in the end that base will be ground to dust, or re-taken long before ISIS can make any real use of it. my question is why is the media hyping this bullshit? is ISIS going to bomb some US city with fleets of antiquated mig 21's stolen from the Syrian airforce? is this the next 9/11 false flag in the works?

I know it sounds retarded but just look who we are dealing with here, there isn't much I would put past them to try and even less they wouldn't throw against the wall to see if it sticks if only for the fearmongering effect alone.

If that jet were flyable and had munitions the way I expect ISIS operates it could

be off within minutes, shoot up a few camels and be back by lunch time...

How? Simple... take a captured pilot, let him talk with his wife/kids and suggest if

he doesn't do as told they'll lose their heads. Then strap a vest bomb onto pilot,

set timer for say 1 hour - you better be back on time or boom to you!

not like ukrainia where the new recruits get 3 weeks isis get 2-3  months

training with akademi and us navy seals

that in theory should give them some skills and little punch

 yes no schlomo?

as for flying why bother

we have israel, romanian and many polish pilots who will do the shoot down false flags just like they did with the downed  malay plane.

Assumptions.

1 ... It is assumed that the Syrian pilots are unwilling to fight alongside ISIS.

2 ... It is assumed that the newly-trained pilots are to be given combat aircraft.

Now that ISIS has funds, it should be able to pay mercenary types to fly/instruct on its behalf.

A resourceful man might find a myriad ways in which to utiilise aircraft; even with pilots of modest skill. See 9/11 for further details.

(If you believe the 9/11 bunkum, that is.)

It is time people understand the Zionists control ISIS.

Why?

The goal of the Zionists is the destruction of secular Arab States.

The Zionists Own Leisure Suit Barry, a Sunni Muslim.

Under bath House Barry, the Zionists will destroy America by open borders, hate crimes legislation and a host of other perfidious initiatives made Law by their lackeys in Congress. They have promoted Homosexuality, Family Destruction, and the destruction of Christians to Witness their Faith.

In one night, the Zionists could destroy ISIS. They will not. ISIS is their Proxy.

They have built an Unholy Alliance between Islamic Fundamentalism and Bolshevism, their original vehicle of World Domination. They own Hollywood, the news media, and the music industry. These venues are designed to Crush Christianity/Morals and replace them with Talmudic Evil.

They will attack America; the 'death' of 'cattle' mean nothing to them,

The International Termite never rests; he moves towards a One World Government.

The Goi are his property; their destruction is their Pleasure.

The Harlot of Revelation is Zionism; The Beast will be the Anti-Christ.

Pray for Deliverance form Evil.

I'm a licensed Airframe/powerplant mechanic. It takes a lot to make those aircraft viable. If you check the websites for mechanics, there are quite a few wanted in the ME. I have two friends that are working over there. I spent a total of 5 years in the ME. They couldn't fix a shopping cart. The Egyptians were the worst. The Jews on the other hand are quite adept at maintaining an advanced aircraft.

If isis has pilots they were trained in tukey, kuwait, saudi land, or some other fascist fiefdom including a highly likley possibility of the zionist state.

ISIS in the air would be no more threat than ISIS on the ground or ISIS on the sea.  Only incompetent and badly organized Arabs and Persians have to fear ISIS.

ISIS is otherwise just a nice excuse to make and sell brand-spanking new munitions and military hardware.  We know this.

I cannot believe that the Syrians, who had known for a while the risks to that airbase, left anything behind that was in anyway serviceable. Anything that could fly out did.

Given the history of ISIS this whole thing stinks.

A US or IAF 'AWACS' or satelite would know immediately anything took off and could counter with a 100 mile range AAM. That is if the brochures are to be believed.

1000 to 1 this is an excuse to, under some as yet unknown circumstances, hit Assad.

Well, if they have an acquired airforce, then they already have what amounts to hijacked airliners.

Think about it.  9/11 without the hijackings, but with the added ability to shoot stuff and launch missiles on the way in.

Of course limited to the areas these planes have the fuel to fly to, so most likely somewhere in Europe.

For more than a millennium, the Middle East was broadly united under different monarchical dynasties. Free movement of people, goods, tribes, ideas and armies was the norm. There was a common religion for most and, compared with other regions of the world, there were fewer languages and more commonalities of culture and history. When Europe's medieval pogroms were unleashed, it was the Mamluks and Ottomans who welcomed Jews. Minorities were protected when the majority had confidence in themselves.

Most in the Middle East no longer feel the dignity of their ancestors. What Plato called thymos is desperately missing: the political desire for recognition and respect as dignified peoples. A Middle Eastern Union could recreate it.

Calls for unity have been made by regional thinkers and leaders for almost a century. Intellectuals of the past such as Jamal al-Din al-Afghani, a 19th-century political activist who is still hugely influential in Arab lands, or Said Nursi, an Ottoman theologian of the same era widely relevant in modern Turkey, sowed the seeds of regionalist thought. In polls, most people in the Middle East call themselves Arab or Muslim before, say, Jordanian or Saudi. Pan-Islamic identity still has more resonance than national identity.

Such calls have been echoed by the Saudi king, the president of the United Arab Emirates, Turkey's prime minister, Jordan's monarch – and also by more threatening voices among Hamas, Egypt's Salafis and the Muslim Brotherhood. Will the west wait until Islamists and radicals are powerful enough to create their own Middle East, one opposed to us? Or will we help our partners in government harness this momentum? This is the moment to create multilateral institutions that could implant pluralism across the region as firmly as Mustafa Kemal Ataturk's constitution did in Turkey almost a century ago.
