Tyler Durden's picture

A Ukraine military spokesman has confirmed that some sailors were killed and more injured when 2 Ukraine Coast Guard cutters came under attack by artillery from onshore near the village of Bezimenne (close to the Russian Border). This is believed to be the first such incident since the conflict began.

As Bloomberg reports,

Some killed when cutters attacked near village of Bezimenne near border w/ Russia, wounded are being transported to hospitals in Mariupol, Oleksiy Metasov, aide to Ukrainian lawmaker Yehor Firsov, comments by phone from Mariupol.

The naval cutter is reported to have been attacked by artillery from the shore.

Leonid Matyukhin, Ukraine military spokesman, says doesn’t recall similar attack since conflict started.

At around the 1:00 mark, the clip shows numerous aircraft approaching the burning ships...

"Russia does not need all of Ukraine, just the eastern sliver so the port is connected by land to Russia."

wrong - "does not need" what the fuck is that - take it all -  end to end - that was the thinking when they gave Crimea away in 53" - diidnt run the permutations for critical path discovery

the entire coast Black Sea -  fucks USA permanently - there is enough distance between the Straits at Turkey and coast of Ukraine that the USA cannot attempt any stealth advance -ever!!!!!!!!!!!!

must then come from the north and cross D River  - or via chock point in Poland not a good place to defend for NATO and the Poles will eventually not take the heat  - Tusk is a temporary player

take the fuckin coast - let them cry a river forever !

I'm guessing here? but you might be meaning about Sevastopol? Or maybe Odessa? Have you ever been to either place? I have. Sevastopol is so small that anything bigger then a large yacht is not going to come threw the entrance. And Odessa is a Cargo port not suited for to tie up ships in. They all anchor off shore and line up for there turn to unload.

Now you were saying?

Water.

http://news.bbcimg.co.uk/media/images/77247000/jpg/_77247713_ukraine_reb...

The BBC had a hard time explaining the advancements and certainly doesn't touch upon the fact that the surrounded soldiers do have grad/artillery/general equipment that usually get traded for the soldiers life's during negotiations, allowing them to flee to Russia. But if you want to believe that the Resistance is shelling their own homes .. go right ahead.

Here is another point of view of why so many Ukrainian soldiers end up fleeing toRussia:

http://slavyangrad.files.wordpress.com/2014/08/karta_ahartin_25_aug-11.j...

Either way:  Russian solider volunteers fighting with the Resistance isn't exactly news as it isn't news that Kiev has to put English labels on their military equipment for some of their foreign volunteers.

Neither is it news that Kiev has been buying up old Soviet equipment from post Soviet countries in trade details that involve Washington DC in turn selling those countries their excess equipment. Same deal as the Kurds are getting.

Very convoluted dynamic at work as far as I can tell. On one hand, trying or " allowing" to escalate the conflict while staying below MSM coverage radar screen, because any escalation by Russia without US " response " makes Obama look even more confused , indecisive or aloof. Yet quietly Obama and NATO still want to pull some more strings and dirty tricks to tee up a justification for a response- not necessarily in Ukraine, but rather in Middle East. So really don't know what to think, except you can not rely on what MSM or govt says.

Bingo.  I read a wide variety of news sources on world and US-domestic events, and over time have compared the eventual facts to what I read and where.

RT and Pravda have proven themselves relatively very factual, and all main US news sources have proven themselves far too biased and off base.  Also have found a few good reliable Chinese sources, UK, German, Japanese, and Australian too, and a few Canadian, but I have completely written off the USA MSM as govt propaganda anymore.  They are a fucking joke.

Yup. Which is why I said I go by history, where I read various sources, mentally note the differences, and then check the facts when they come out, and use that to conclude for myself who is reliable early on ... and RT and Pravda are far better on that front than most.  It may be that they have to be more honest given their past, but they score well from my observation.

If you want to calibrate your news sources, check out the BBC situation maps of what is going on in eastern Ukraine with the ones provided by (for example) cassad-en.livejournal.com. Even Nazi news in WWII run by Goebbels was more truthful than the BBC. Its a laugh and a half to watch them have to repaint huge swaths of "rebel held territory" from one day to the next...

If you want to base any important decisions on accurate reporting, good luck with using the BBC or the rest of the US Deep State controlled MSM.

From the Counterpunch article:

"Barack Obama has pushed Ukraine to the brink of political, economic and social collapse. Now he wants to blame Russia for the damage he’s done. It’s absurd. Moscow is in no way responsible for Ukraine’s descent into anarchy. That’s all Washington’s doing, just as Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, and now Syria were Washington’s doing. If you want to blame someone, blame Obama."

I can't see too much to disagree with there, but let's not ignore Washington's No.1 sycophantic servant: Westminster.

Uh, you are sadly misinformed on that. I have spoken with and traded tips with hunters and trappers in Russia.

It was simply mind boggling how similar in nature and outlook we were.

While the Russian guys were obviously "poorer" than the American hunters (no thousand dollar scopes, no $500 rain suits, etc); they made up for it in resourcefulness and improvisation skills.

Some of their camps and shelters were simply ingenious considering how little they cost.

first off, i cannot understand what strategic or tactical use the usa has in openly picking a fight with russia, china and the rest of the brics over territory that has obvious security value for both sides(as it was), therefore providing a historical buffer mostly ensuring no one attacks anyone UNLESS THEY ARE FUCKING CRAZY!!! kinda like the same lesson learned in afghanistan now twice in recent memory caricaturizing the past historical boondoggles dating back to silk road pirate days.

what a great shore battery team. you can hear the guys on the ships looking at each other and saying, "oh! fuck! they are shooting at us!"

putin is laying a trap in coordination with china. china is obvious the economic bad guy and putin is the strong arm enforcer. the usa is the pussy metro boy in a flaming tizzy because no one will listen to her. europe is everybody's butt boy. (yes, homoerotic, juicy on a sunday morn)

the usa has clearly lost it's mind. nato will not face the russian army. putin knows this. never happen over the ukraine. poland maybe but putin does not want poland. he'll let all those countries come back to russia because that is where the money is as the euroasia conduit to the continental world, the historical old world, pre columbian, even in south america, ex new world, the usa.

It’s one large false flag: from the coup that removed the “legitimate” government and replaced it with death squads loyal to the World Bank and Euro bureaucrats, to the shoot down of MH17, to the brutal rapes of women caught in the middle.  All done in the name of representative government; but, in fact, done by former Navy Seals and police (in the name of America (as locals see it)).

Why do they perpetrate false flags?  Because they can.  They know that the current breed of Americans will do absolutely nothing to oppose them; I mean nothing sensible, nothing effective.

Oh, sure, a few Americans will sit on their haunches and howl; and they might as well bray at the wind for all they accomplish.

You see, Americans have the power to correct any grievance that could be named… and they choose not to use that power.  There are two main reasons for this failure: one is that they have no knowledge of such power; the other, that they aid, benefit or were complicit in such false flags.  The latter are not worth saving, and we should waste no more time on them.  And the former must be cured of their diseased belief that we can trust those guilty to punish themselves.

What could we do with this power?  (It is the same power employed by American Founders, an intro)

We could, for example, begin an investigation and collection of the $9-$11 Trillions (at least) that went missing from DoD, HUD and SSA; among other amounts and agencies.  Here, watch Donald Rumsfield tell Congress that he couldn’t account for $2.3 Trillion stolen from DoD.  It was very conveniently timed.  It was disclosed elsewhere that a team of accountants were then examining related documents at an office in the Pentagon.  Within 24 hours of his testimony, a cruise missile reduced this office to a pile of smoldering rubble.

Or what about the $2 to $5 Trillions in surpluses that show up on books of city and county, special districts and state governments.  These surpluses are held as cash and bonds, real estate and stocks, domestic and international; they represent taxes over-collected… taxes that were not needed for normal government functions.  When I did my research on this (about 2000), such surpluses for California divided out to $20,000 for every man, woman and child in the state; then I factored in amounts hidden in footnotes, the “dividend” ballooned to over $40,000 for each individual.  See, for example, “Who Owns City Hall?“ and Of Lords and Cattle.

Criminal and useful-idiot classes are convinced they stole this money fair and square.  What do you think?  In my opinion, it was stolen, regardless of how bandit and insolent classes feel.  And I want it back… even if it takes me ten years, or have to chase them to the ends of the earth.

When we consider the enormity of their crimes, and desperation of their efforts to destroy evidence and witnesses, it becomes fairly obvious we can’t depend on them to punish themselves for what they have done.  Their safety lies in ever more heinous crimes.

No, we will have to take matters into our hands, as American Founders did.

For this to be done will require a small number of Americans (1% - 2%) to learn the law and procedures of redress, to organize assemblies, and then carryout redress.  Owing to the desperation of criminal and useful-idiot classes, each assembly will have to organize and direct a militia to protect assembly members, witnesses and victims of grievances.  This is why victims, witnesses and whistle blowers are savaged… there are no assemblies to protect them.

Not only do we have to protect ourselves from American governments, but we also have to protect ourselves against the ALLIANCE among Mexican and Columbian drug cartels, Chinese Triads, the Red army, cobbled together by Chinese communists.  There are other criminal organizations included in this ALLIANCE… but you get the idea.  Don’t believe me?  Would you believe testimony given before a Congressional subcommittee?  See, Anatomy of a General Plunder part 2.

The problem is planet-wide.  When the dollar, a paper house of cards, collapses, most of the world’s currencies will follow its demise (see Bad News… as well as Anatomy…)  Governments across the globe will simply evaporate because they’ll have nothing to pay their chair warmers and assassins.  Assemblies will have to be ready to take possession and operate properties formerly possessed by those governments: airports, harbors, borders, streets and highways, lakes, rivers, et cetera.  The list is so long; and the clock ticks…

But there is a major problem: Americans do not know the tremendous power available to them: they first have to learn it: they can do this by trial and error, or, learn lessons of Founders.

The English first publically declared their right of redress with section 61 of the Magna Charta.  It took them 400 years and oceans of blood to develop reasonably effective procedures of redress.  This is the method of “trial and error”.  And, with these procedures, English rebels (1620-50) brought down tax collectors and clergy, judges and kings who preached the divine right of kings and thot they had a right to lay taxes on men without their consent; these were actual charges.

These are some of the powers and rights won by Founders, and inherited by us.  It doesn’t really matter, had it not been our legacy, we would have to invent them.  And Americans are blind to such powers and rights, even tho they lie, literally, at their fingertips (an intro).

So you have a choice: one, trial and error, requires 400 years; the other, a study of my writings and my experience, will take you 2 to 5 years to become reasonably effective.

It will not be quick, it will not easy… but, unprecedented adventures never are.

If you're on the beach, the horizon is 18 miles away.

If you climb a hill of 100 meters, the curvature of the earth may give you another 10 kilometers.

Does not need much technology to hit a boat if it is ahead of you.

A .50 machine gun has a range of 6500 meters above the projectiles can reach 9000 meters horizontally is a matter of angle.

In summary, I would hit that shit even with only one anti-tank bazooka.

Those who can, do.  Those who can't, teach.

I was thinking of making him a hypothetical (or real) offer.  I'll go out on a boat at 9000 meters.  I'll give him an anti-tank bazooka with one shot (which he is sure he could make).  On shore with him would be one man with a gun to his head.  If he hit and killed me, he wins.  If he misses, he goes MH370.

It would make for an interesting 15 minutes.

When I watched the video I to thought I saw a plane out by the ship.  It reminds of a story my grandpa told me about his WWII experience.  He didn't tell much but he told me this story.  He went and signed up for the navy.  He said they did all these tests and made him squat walk like a duck.  Then after all that they told him he had flat feet and they were'nt going to take him.  Then someone saw that he had degrees in meteorology, geology, and geography.  Told him to come back and he was in.  He was one of the meteorologists that was on the weather plane that dropped the bomb on Hiroshima.  He said they were on their mission and he went in the back of the plane to lay down on a bunk and all of a sudden the plane was hit with terrible turbulence that knocked him out of his bunk.  He said he then looked out the window and saw the mushroom cloud.  I still have the silk escape maps from the mission with restricted code magnetic derivation stamps right over hiroshima.

The other story he told me was when he was on an island over there, Marshalls, Solomons... I can't remember but they were under attack by the japanese and he jumped into a bomb crater for safety and he said his arm went through the rotting body of a dead jap.

Separatists claim first attack on Ukrainian ship Pro-Russian rebels claim their the first sea victory in their separatist war as a Ukrainian naval vessel comes under attack

"The militia have dealt the enemy their first naval defeat," Igor Strelkov, a separatist military commander who stepped down in mid-August, said on the social media network VKontakte.

strelkov is baaack!!!  that's an interesting rabbit hole...

in mid-August, Strelkov mysteriously resigned his post as ‘defence minister’ of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic — along with two other Russian citizens who had been the civilian heads of the rebel Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics. All three rebel leaders were replaced by Ukrainian citizens.

The most obvious explanation for the reshuffle is that Moscow is preparing a negotiated settlement where the Russian-speaking eastern Ukraine — or Novo-Rossiya, ‘New Russia,’ in Russian nationalist parlance — will be given some degree of autonomy within Ukraine. Despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary — from young soldiers’ Instagram selfies tagged to locations inside Ukraine to the Russian regular soldiers taken prisoners of war on Monday by Kiev’s troops — Moscow has also continued to insist that it is not a combatant in Ukraine. Clearly, having Russian citizens at the helm of supposedly autonomous rebel republics and their armed forces was a diplomatic inconvenience to the Kremlin which needed to be fixed — and pressure was put on Strelkov and his cronies to quit.

But there’s another, deeper meaning to Strelkov’s fall from favour. Though he’s often portrayed as a stooge of Moscow, Strelkov has in fact been consistently critical of the Kremlin’s failure to act decisively to annex eastern Ukraine as it annexed Crimea in spring. ‘Having taken Crimea, Putin began a revolution from the top,’ Strelkov wrote in June. ‘But if we do not support [this revolution] now, its failure will sweep aside both him and the country.’ Strelkov’s close associate Igor Ivanov, the head of the rebel army’s political department, has also furiously denounced the ‘-Chekist-oligarchic regime’ of Vladimir Putin and has also predicted that Putin will soon fall, leaving only the army and the church to save Russia from chaos.

The gun (or missile) on the shore is going to have a much longer range and hitting power compared to the guns on a small coast guard cutter (it will be a small ship, with no armour, as the Russians, who control the access to the Sea, would not allow a big one in. Imagine the effect of a Grad slavo!

Bear in mind that the Militia now has some battle hardened and trained men now so a decent team could put a few shells on the target in a couple of minutes.

As to the Black Sea ports. They have limited capacity at the moment and are optimised for warships. However, the Ukrainians have done a deal with the Chinese to build a brand new deep water (over 20m deep) container port on Crimea. They appear to be very happy to continue the deal under the Russians.

A road/rail bridge at Kersch is quite straightforward. The road rail links would appear to need quite a lot of upgrading. But this is potentially a really significant move strategically for Russia. It will give it access to all kinds of ships for both import and export Like from their new agri suppliers) and potentially offer economic development in west Russia between there and Moscow. I suspect significant joint Russian/Chinese investment could be made here. This could be nearly as important to Russia as the naval aspects over the next decade.

The events seem to escalate everyday, as this war grows it will get harder to separate the fact from the fiction. What ever happens I can not imagine we will send a few hundred thousand American troops to defend the Ukraine or attack the Russians any time soon. Like our recent phenomena we will use proxy armies, the Ukrainian conscripts, a few advisers and many mercenaries. It is very disturbing that nobody from the Ukraine, NATO or the US wants to negotiate, militarism has blinded the political class. After all is said and done, it will not be the oligarchs or their children who fight and die, it will not be the political ruling class or their children who will fight and die, it will be your children and mine.

The latest on the incident is along these lines

The closest to what may be reality is that one ukie coastguard vessel was hit and destroyed by a T-72 tank at about 5 000m range, and what looked like aircraft were seagulls very close and out of focus. The sound that some have described as being like a jet, is a bit like the sound sub caliber tank shells make going out to longer ranges at speed, as normally they fire at target so close that sound of tank firing and then hit on target drowns out sound of shell.

Now, even the Ukrainians attributed the loss to tank fire, if there was any suspicion of an air raid they would've jumped on it.

Excitement over!

You know, everyone could use some common sense and figure this out.

To use the old phrase, Cui bono?

When I was young, 'The Ukraine' was called the Breadbasket of Europe. Ukraine has obvious qualities anyone would want control over.

Russia has a broader sense of Nationalism under Putin it would seem. The Russians do not want to be under the thumb of the Euro-US banking system. This is deep in their history, it goes back even before the last Czar, Nicholas. It also has a factor of anti-semitism to it, which I think is more appropriately termed anti-zionist. We do not need to get into hysterics here, the facts are available  to anyone who wants to read about the banker vs. Romanov feud.

The Euro-US alliance has productive territory it could gain under control of Ukraine. By sucking the hapless Ukrainians into their orbit, they could be stuck  with 'loans' from the West.

If I were in the B for IS, I would know along with the other stockholders in the Banks that we have to gain more territory/resources to offset the continuing devaluation of our fiat currencies.

There is also the factor of human nature: power and control and its acquisition.

So, summing it up, it would appear the Western financial powers have a decided reason to 'go after' Ukraine and add it to their orbit. Russia has a reason rooted more in history and nationalism to hold Ukraine to its orbit.

I have to conclude in this case the West are the bad guys here- not the people of the western countries, but the corrupt political and financial thugs one can find in any country.

Too many individuals post here that ZH is a pro-Putin, pro-Russian site. I do not agree. ZHers have a Libertarian bent, and are quite capable of looking at facts. As ashamed as I am, I have to conclude my own government has taken the wrong road. I do not see where Ukraine has threatened my safety or my fellow Americans' security. Nor has Russia. Russia has not given any indication of wanting to attack America or stage an invasion.

I still consider myself an American although I live overseas. There is a heritage in the US to tend towards isolation by our people. Until we get hit on the head by a 2X4, we are not going to wake up. When that happens, we will collectively have to change the leadership of the USG to become more responsive to The People instead of powerful financial/political parties who have only their own self-interest in mind.

When I see posts about how ZH is a 'pro-Russian' site or blog, I know the person wring such statements has another agenda, and it is not an agenda of finding facts or the Truth.

Opinions are like assholes-everyone has one. So take it for what it's worth, even my own scribbling.

Carry on, ZH.

The US Military and Pentagon have done nothing to save America from this nightmare and uphold The Constitution.  As long as the contracts flow and the pro-military MIC jobs are there - life is good.

The Military has been selling out soldiers and America for the banksters and Red Shield since The Civil War including using tanks against The Bonus Army.  Hell - at West Point - that clueless ass MacArthur is a hero.  He was the main person behind the tanks against The Bonus Army plus Patton and Ike.  Smedley Butler supported the Bonus Army vets.  Smedley Butler pretty much said the military is there for big corporations which would also including oligarchs/billionaires - just like Kyiv-Ukraine.

Vietnam was one of the biggest betrayals of Americans and American boys.  LBJ should have been thrown into a wood chipper.

Thanks lakecity55, a nice piece. +1 more.

I totally agree with your comment: "I have to conclude in this case the West are the bad guys here- not the people of the western countries, but the corrupt political and financial thugs one can find in any country."

This is so true. If there is one important truth people learn when they read ZH, it's that it is the political slimeballs who are destroying America's economy, it's society and everything in between. Not vast tracts of the American people. The USG does not speak or act for the American people any longer. And it's pretty much the same in Britain and large parts of Europe.

When commentators say "The Americans are bombing this or that country", they should be more articulate and say "The American government is bombing this or that country." Because that's what it is.

I'm never really bothered by those who criticise ZH and commenters by claiming we are all pro-Putin. You know the truth and regulars here do. The criticisers have their own agenda or simply do not understand the thought processes of people who want better for their own country than to be run by political criminals and banking fraudsters. America brought much better to the world.

Any law against passing the hat around to support the rebels? If anyone knows how to get the cash to them for weapons/medical supplies etc. I know a lot of people that would contribute to thier cause - mainly because they are fighting the same people we are.

Or would that be considered treason to stand up to our governments lies?

It is sad that an act of good conscience maybe considered treason or a crime by our government.  http://en.voicesevas.ru/

Seems to me that Obama is taking orders from his banking superiors to cause inflation to take hold at any cost. That means create more and bigger wars.
