UK Spends $80 Million On Massive "Ring Of Steel" to 'Protect' Politicians At NATO Summit

Tyler Durden's picture

Submitted by Mike Krieger of Liberty Blitzkrieg blog,

Last week, many woke up to news that the UK had raised its terror threat level from “substantial” to “severe.” Considering the competence and trustworthiness of the nation’s Joint Terrorism Analysis Centre, there must be some specific threat they’re concerned about to justify instilling fear in a population of 65 million. Nope.

Although the new threat level rates the risk of an attack on the UK to “highly likely,” Home Secretary Theresa May stated that “there was no evidence to suggest one was imminent.” Well then.

It makes you wonder if the the change in threat level is being used in part to justify the extraordinary $80 million sum spent on building a fortress around the Newport and Cardiff city centers in Wales, which many are describing as “similar to the Berlin Wall,” or a “zoo,” in an unprecedented display of protection for many of the world’s most corrupt politicians.

The BBC reports that:

A security “ring of steel” is already in place at keys sites in Cardiff and in Newport – some 12 miles (20km) of fencing with pedestrian access points.

More than 150 heads of state and ministers including US President Barack Obama will attend the two-day summit.

Their entourage will include around 10,000 support staff, while 2,000 journalists are also expected to attend.

The man heading the security operation, which includes 1,500 officers from south Wales, has described it as “completely uncharted territory” for British policing and said “discreet” armed protection would also be used.

To mark the summit, the Royal Mint has struck a limited edition bronze commemorative “coin”.

Although not legal tender, the 150 coins feature the Nato logo and the words Nato Summit Wales 2014 in English and Welsh.

I’m sure glad they found time to create a commemorative coin amid all the imminent terror attacks.

Now here’s a quick cheat sheet. Recall that this is all for a 2-day summit:

  • 9,500 police will be present.
  • 7 NATO warships will be stationed off the Welsh coast.
  • 12 miles of steel fencing has been erected.
  • The fencing will be 9 feet tall around Cardiff and Newport.

Now here are a few photos to give you a sense of what it looks like in the area:

Care to take a walk in the park perhaps? Lovely view this time of year:

So how do the bureaucrats justify such ridiculous spending? Terrorism, of course!

For example, we know that MP Kim Howells, an ex-chairman of the Intelligence and Security Committee chairman, made what appears to be an entirely unsubstantiated claim that “he believed terrorists could be planning something for the largest gathering of international leaders ever held in the UK.”

The much more likely reason is to keep the politicians away from the rabble. For example, 20,000 protesters are expected to be in the area, and heaven forbid these “leaders,” which large percentages of their citizenry view as corrupt and thieving criminals, have to face any of the plebs.

More significantly, you have to wonder whether world “leaders” are using this as conditioning to get the masses used to what life is going to be like in the decades ahead if they have their way. After all, this security spectacle seems particularly interesting in that it’s happening 13 years AFTER 9/11.

This is what neo-feudalism looks like.

This is nothing more than a "STING", this is how the EU distribute our hard earned cash. Some lucky Israeli Security company will bill the the UK for 80.Mil£££ for work that costs no more than 25 Grand££ !!

While visiting the UK, like being whacked over the head, I realized the prisoners are those that the populace is kept from.  Royalty, elitists and politicians are the real prisoners behind walls with guards surrounding them.  They may believe they are free.  They are not.  We are the free, able to move about how and where we choose.  They may live in a nice house or a few nice houses but, they are all prisons.

The G20 will be in Brisbane in November. Residents will be on lockdown, not allowed to leave their homes or enter the area when "leaders" are in the move.

Australia is a penal colony, after all.

"RESIDENTS living near the G20 "restricted zone" around South Bank have been told they will not be able to leave or enter their homes when any of the 28 leaders are on the move."

And how many people have been deprived of benefits and had to starve because they were a few minutes late for an appointment? Or what about all those who haven't got enough money to live on and are so stressed out because they are on zero hour contracts?

If they tell us to cut back and we have to put up with austerity, so should they to and not spend taxpapers money on this ridiculous farce. If they are so scared use the internet you dimwits

What they aren't talking about is the REAL 'ring of steel'.

Long bowmen.

Wales is badass.

Welch bowmen were (and I suspect still are) the elite of mercs.

Blackwater (or whatever their current name is) is just a bunch of pussies in comparison.

The EU can do this:

‘This week a new EU regulation came into force banning the manufacture of vacuum cleaners more powerful than 1600W.

Models with a higher wattage have been flying off the shelves in recent weeks as Britons try to beat the ban by stocking up on the final 2000W models on sale."

How many lower powered vacuum cleaner savings have they wasted on flying to Wales for (just two days playing golf) and all the petrol guzzled by police cars/bikes/helicopters etc ?

Should an attack take place, the other side of the commemorative coin is a memorial coin.

The coin is more proof that these clowns are over the top. this is a sad commentary on what we have become. Mommas in America were discouraged in a song many years ago from letting their children grow up to be cowboys, it appears to have been a reasonable decision. Today after viewing the lifestyles associated with many career paths, politics and the route of so called "public service" seems to offer much potential.

A career in politics can grant you a lifestyle where you, and oftentimes your family will get to rub elbows with the ultra wealthy and the country's most powerful titans of business and industry. This career choice also has the benefit of sheltering you, and extending legal protection that covers you from the responsibilities of your actions. Flying about in private planes politicians are rewarded with generous pensions and superior healthcare benefits far outside the reach of the average citizen. More on this subject below.

What a waste of money. Will terrorists kill innocent civilians and politicians in the years to come? Of course. They did so more than 100 years ago, when they were called anarchists—and a responsible nation-state must take reasonable measures to protect its citizens. But there is no way to completely eliminate terrorism.

The challenge that confronts us is how we will live with that threat. We have created an economy of fear, an industry of fear, a national psychology of fear. Al Qaeda could never have achieved that on its own. We have inflicted it on ourselves. Fear is an odd thing often the more people talk about it the more afraid they become. More on this subject in the article below.

while I doubt it, I think it would be hilarious for all the protesters to approach the guards/police with their best broken Russian accent, start with "Hello Comrade, I am is be Boris, is wall be of anything concern?"
