When their response to the fact that they've destroyed the country is to do more of what destroyed it.
- Maybe they default on their bonds for the 47th time in the last 30 years...and still expect people to buy them.
- Maybe they nationalize people's businesses, and then act surprised when the rest of the businesses leave.
- Like when they respond to high consumer prices by rationing, or price fixing... which makes the prices go up more.
- Like when they seize 'buffer' states to enhance their security...and then move there in such numbers that the 'buffer' becomes part of their country... which means they have to seize the next set of neighbors, rinse and repeat.
- Like when they get huger percentages of their population killed by supporting the last 'strong' leader, only to enthusiastically embrace the next 'strong' leader - who does the same damn thing!
- Like when they use their militaries to threaten their friends and trading partners, but use diplomacy with their genuine enemies.
- Like when they centralize power in the State, after which all the politicians run away and expatriate with the entire contents of the treasury. And then in response they create another even MORE centralized State... (B'cause, Ya' know they won't DARE steal an even bigger pile of money.)
- Like when they give free room, board, and therapy to violent criminals who use weapons against the innocent. But they put the innocent into real butt-fucking prisons if they use a deadly weapon to protect themselves against those same criminals.
- Like when THE EXACT SAME GUY is considered suspicious, paranoid and of questionable motives for keeping weapons...until he gets a job wearing a uniform...then its okay. THE. EXACT. SAME. PERSON.
- Like when they resort to electing oligarchs to control the other oligarchs, time and again. And no matter how many times it happens they are always surprised when the oligarchs actually HELP the other oligarchs in return for a kickback.

If, after seeing how "constitutional" government has consistently morphed into tyranny, and every form of cenralized government has become a parasite upon society, then, the masses clamor for for something between "more of the same, to be secure" and a return to "constitutional" centralized government to be "free", then we live in a nation of idiots.
It's time for industrialized "civilization" to consider an unexplored path, without central government parasites at any level, where individuals are the only sovereigns, joining in voluntary non-aggressive cooperation to satisfy their needs, only so long as needed. We're likely to have the opportunity soon to make this happen when central governments self destruct from moral and financial bankruptcy. At that time, centralized governments at all levels need to be prevented from rising from their ashes to again predate upon mankind. Those who don't think this could work are the real utopians, because nothing else is realistically sustainable. It's simply a matter of educating a critical mass about the nature of The State, which is always born of conquest and confiscation so that one group of people can rape and plunder the rest with impunity.
Best thing I know of to read on this is the book "For A New Liberty" by Murray Rothbard, or, if you want something shorter, the essay "Anatomy of the State" extracted from Rothbard's book. Both are available free in text and audio at Mises.org

Regarding constitutions, I suggest reading Lysander Spooner's "No Treason Number 6, The Constitution Of No Authority" (1867), available free in text and audio from an Internet search. If you come away from that still believing in any form of constitutional governance, then we will have found the definition of absurd.
Idealism is better defined by giving people power over large numbers of other people an then not expecting them to abuse it.

However, all the government that is needed for the task is that which arises from voluntary association of people at the most local level of community. Only at this level do the people have the ability to prevent abuse of office from going beyond "securing these rights" which almost inevitably violates them. Once you get to the large town or county level, abuse is almost certain, and the numbers of people aligned with the abuser (or a tyranny of a majority) could be difficult to overcome. At the State level, the problem only becomes more dangerous and assured.
The idealists and utopians are those who believe in centralized forms of governance where people are given power over large numbers, and then don't expect that power to be abused. They can cause far more harm than any likely number of disorganized aggressors, which we can be dealt with by individuals and their local associations.
What is so dangerous about not wanting to give others power over us so they can abuse it? What is so dangerous about letting individuals and their local associations determine for themselves how they want to "secure these rights" and not seek power over others? What is so dangerous about anything Rothbard proposes in "For A New Liberty"?

apathy = voters are lazy. ie: the voters fault.

Another would be that men and women are basically of the same nature. That the only reason we’re different is that we’re socialized differently…. I remember this great story of some feminist trying to raise a boy not to be militant in anyway, no trucks, no guns. He’d pick up a banana and go pow, pow, pow with a banana.

Q: What are the policy consequences of believing in these myths?
JT: Right. Well, the whole notion of diversity, the notion that if you fill the United States with people as unlike each other as possible, that that is somehow going to produce a great nation, that’s very dangerous. And it is particularly not just dangerous but unfortunate for whites, the people who built and established this nation. White are supposed to celebrate diversity? What does this mean? They are supposed to celebrate their dwindling numbers and their dwindling influence. It’s not as though you can fill the country with Haitians and Guatemalans and turn them into the model heirs of Thomas Jefferson and George Washington. It’s simply not going to happen. When people come to the United States from the Third World they are not arriving with the idea of presenting us with their precious gift of diversity. They never heard of diversity before they came here. What they’re coming for is to get a first world income. But they’re going to live their previous life - their previous folkways, language, culture, religion - with a first world income. They don’t want to become like me. They have no interest in becoming western the way we are. And so the idea that we get all these people from all around the world and we get to hold hands and we’ll sing Kumbaya and live happily ever after? Crazy. And it will reduce whites to a minority. Frankly, I don’t want to be a minority. I don’t want my grandchildren to be a minority. So the implications are bad for the country as a whole because diversity is a source of conflict and they are particularly bad for whites because then they are reduced to a minority in which they are likely to be a despised remnant on the story of how whites oppressed the Third World, how they oppressed and enslaved the blacks. They are not going to stop talking about that. I won’t want to be here a hundred years if trends continue.
Q: Are you saying that when whites become a minority, whites may be treated differently?
JT: I think as a matter of fact (this may be a very unfashionable thing to say), but if you look at American history of the last 50 years, whites have treated minorities with a kind of munificence and a kind of generosity that is unprecedented in the history of the world. Whites are still the majority in this country, and yet whites have instituted institutes that discriminate against their own people. If you want to apply to an ivy league college or even tp a state university or community college do you think you are better off being a white male or a black female? Everybody knows the answer to that question. And that is while whites are still a majority. This kind of unfairness is something that legislatures, state and federal, have been utterly incapable of abolishing. The only way to getting rid of that kind of racial preference has been through state ballot initiatives. And how do this initiatives turn out? Blacks and HIspanics vote in overwhelming numbers to keep those preferences. And why not? Well, when they become a majority do you think there are suddenly going to think, Gee this is just not fair to those wicked white racists who oppressed us all those hundreds of years. No. Once they become a majority what’s going to happen to the white minority? I’m not worried if I were expecting the coming non-white majority to treat whites the way whites have treated non-whites the last 50 years. I’d say, Go right ahead. Not going to happen.
Q: Care to predict the future for whites?
JT: I would say that there are really two possibilities. If whites continue to sleepwalk in this browbeaten bamboozled state in which they think that anything they do to preserve a white majority or promote their own interest, if they continue to think that this is somehow wrong, then the United States will become like Brazil. It will be a nation in which there is a small number of people who live in gated communities, and they helicopter from their gated communities to their gated swim clubs, into their gated schools, while the rest, a sort of brown and black mass below, is seething and bubbling. I can imagine the United States turning into a Brazil of that kind. On the other hand, if whites wake up to the fact that they face a real crisis, that their civilization, their continuance as a people, a distinct people, a distinct culture, that that existence is a stake, they may do something about that. And preserve at least a part of the United States or some system in which they can affirm themselves as a majority people and culture… I don’t want my descendants to be living in Brazil. I want them to be living in some country where they can be proud of their ancestors, proud of their culture, and live in a society that reflects that culture, not some sort of crazy mishmash where everything from all around the world has come in, a sort of mutually uncomprehending perpetually hostile state which I think we will end up with, unless whites wake up.
