More Lies: NFL Had Rice Tape In April

Tyler Durden's picture

In a world of no consequences and where lying is justified "when it's serious enough," it is hardly surprising that mere hours after stating unequivocally that none of the law enforcement entities the league approached "was permitted to provide any video or other investigatory material to us," AP reports that, in fact, a law enforcement official says he sent a video of Ray Rice punching his then-fiancee to an NFL executive five months ago. More lies - but then we are sure, just as we have heard many times before, Roger Goodell was 'unaware' of the situation...

As AP reported earlier...

Commissioner Roger Goodell has sent a memo to the 32 teams reiterating that the NFL never saw until Monday the video of Ray Rice punching his then-fiancee that led to Rice's indefinite suspension and release by the Baltimore Ravens.

Goodell told the teams on Wednesday that none of the law enforcement entities the league approached "was permitted to provide any video or other investigatory material to us." He said the league did not ask the casino directly for the video.

Ravens owner Steve Bisciotti said Tuesday in a letter to the fans that the team tried to get the video from both the casino and law enforcement. The casino wouldn't share it and the authorities refused, he said.

Goodell also stressed his confidence in how the NFL will deal with domestic violence and sexual assault in the future — "seriously and effectively."

And now...

A law enforcement official says he sent a video of Ray Rice punching his then-fiancee to an NFL executive five months ago, while league executives have insisted they didn't see the violent images until this week.

The person played The Associated Press a 12-second voicemail from an NFL office number on April 9 confirming the video arrived. A female voice expresses thanks and says: "You're right. It's terrible."

The law enforcement official, speaking to the AP on condition of anonymity because of the ongoing investigation, says he had no further communication with any NFL employee and can't confirm anyone watched the video. The person said they were unauthorized to release the video but shared it unsolicited, because they wanted the NFL to have it before deciding on Rice's punishment.

So who's lying?

You decide:

Quickly followed by a denial...

  • *NFL SAYS IT HAS NO KNOWLEDGE OF RICE VIDEO BEING SENT TO LEAGUE

Gotta love the commish.

He also had the incriminating tapes of the Patriots using industrial-strength spying (to put it mildly) a few years back. I seem to recall he just destroyed them since nothing was really amiss, according to him.

Now what do you think?

Finally!! This is the kind of news item this nation can sink its teeth into. Domestic violence among pro athletes and their gold digging significant others is truly a national ordeal that merits an "awareness month" of its own. I for one want to see fuscia cleats, gloves and helmets throughout the NFL for Domestic Violence Awareness Month to be followed by Susan G Scam For A Cure Pink astroturf month.

This nation is devoting far too much time to trivial matters like immigration reform, state sponsorship of terrorists, er, military interventionism, economic collapse and a renewed Cold War. FUCK THAT!!! I want to punch my work clock and immerse myself in 8 straight hours of Ray Rice analysis by mental giants like Hannity, Matthews and Maddow. Finally the scourge that is domestic violence is getting the attention it deserves.

What a fucking degenerate nation this has become. I want to run from this shithole just as fast as I can but I can't imagine it's much better anywhere else.....

Touche....he also filed for bankruptcy protection only to come back and eventually sign a 6-yr $100 million ($40 million guaranteed) deal with the Eagles (later restructured) and now plays for the Jets.  Point is, he and Ray Lewis proove the NFL player conduct clause mean nothing if you're a star player.  Rice is a woman beating thug, but he'll be back in pads earning millions....you can count on it.

Clearly Goodell didn't know because when you're making 30+ mil a year to sit on your ass overseeing a product that sells itself you obviously aren't going to know what is going on.

This guy is a chump and has done nothing of positive value for anyone other than the owners....which is why he won't be forced to resign since they love the guy while everyone else thinks (nay, knows) he is a useless twat.

There are some issues snarled up here. I think posting about the lie is very relevant for ZH.

#The Commissioner probably lied. This is a huge industry, makes lots of money. This story confirms AGAIN how normal it is to lie when big money is involved. There is not enough apple pie to make some folks swallow this. These fans are some of the sheep we talk about on here that are not alert to anything. Maybe (okay I doubt it) but maybe, this is a wake-up call. Something so "American" is, in fact corrupt. "Gosh, if the football I love is so corrupt, what else is corrupt? My government? My retirement fund? Golly gosh, my money? What else? Maybe my whole life?" Maybe this wakes some folks up who are sleep walking. All our Ponzi scheme institutions are built on lies. Can you stand it any longer? Will you just live with some more because you are so fucking helpless against it all?

#What else are they lying about in house and covering up? Hmmmm? Tip of the fucking iceberg.

#The chick probably is a "piece of work." You marry him knowing his propensity for violence. Ouch. Nevertheless I am not sure you understand how it feels to know that the world can watch that man do that to that woman and see how they value money over her well being, enough to help cover it up and pooh-pooh it. I hear you folks about "minding our own business" but damn. I know as a permit carrier, I would have shot him if I saw that. I would be afraid for her life and mine. That would be one dead dog. The joke is, if she woke up she would probably come for me and I would have to shoot her too. But folks, it hurts. As a woman, I have to say it just hurts. It reflects an entire culture, not just the NFL. I know some of you will tell me and my being hurt to fuck off, and that's okay. But if you want to understand the hoopla, there some of it is. I loved that post up thread "I hate it when feminists are right."

#This is more evidence we are in the midst of collapse itself. The Ponzi shit shack is coming down. This was helping to hold things up. Lots of folks are "into" this sport. Agree or not, it is one of the pillars of our society. If you see it as nothing more than a distraction from the truth, you make my point for me. Without the distraction, the trust in something fair/good/wholesome, the mind is free to wander and wonder and see what is happening.

Sorry for the long post, I will stop here...

the reason people have an opinion on this is because it's in the news, because it's the nfl, because a lot of people watch football and thus the nfl makes a lot of money and making news out of what happens to an institution that makes a lot money puts MONEY IN SOMEONE"S POCKET SOMEWHERE SPECIFIC------because this news generally related to the NFL puts money in the network's pocket and advertisers pockets.

somewhere someone either got paid for this story or got blackmailed to put or not put this story in public.

there is nothing legal/illegal or any laws at issue here. information is private unless there is a legal duty to disclose in which case it is by law--formally ---public. and even then, we knwo how much 'public' info is buried or kept secret. so the idea that you are even talking about some random act of man on woman violence is a big joke upon you.

oh wait, i challenge you to the ice-bucket challenge.

now famously commissioned a study on domestic violence in the early 80s i think. the conclusion of the study was that women initiated domestic violence in 80% of the cases, the study concluded that the misperception about domestic violence was caused by the difference in the size of the fists. in other words, it was much easier for a man to hurt a woman due to physics.

even in this case, the woman takes a swing at him first. she initiated the violence. he ended it.

this politically correct crap has to go.

It's not a matter of Rice being "right", because he wasn't.  It's the media's use of this and every other event they can to emasculate men.  She can call your mother a whore, hit you but you better not have any other response than to walk away.  Basically stop being a man and stop being human.

And with Law Enforcement interjecting into every family matter it's all the easier to destroy the family unit.  Wife says she was drunk, started it and doesn't wanna press charges?  Doesn't matter DA is prosecuting.  Destroy the men and the rest of society is easy pickings.

And what would a "real man" do? Punch her?

And what about those smart-mouth kids? Maybe the "real man" should pound the little rug-rats into the dirt while he's at it. Because, you know, he has to be all manly and shit...

Wrong jerks...a "real man" does not beat on those who are obviously weaker than he is. Even if they call his mother a whore.

Divorce her, leave her, whatever...but there is NOTHING remotely "manly" about using your fists on her.

I never used the term "real man" you infered that bullshit.  What I am stating is that a system of law that let's one gender engage in its most base instincts just because they aren't "physically violent (though in Ray's case his wife was), while holding the other gender to the strictest controls of the natural reaction to emotional and/or physical vioplence from the other gender is in no way equal.

"What I am stating is that a system of law that let's one gender engage in its most base instincts just because they aren't "physically violent"

But that's not why...I don't suggest that women are free from violence. What they ARE is physically smaller and weaker than men, for the most part.

Small children can be violent too, but most folks know you don't clock a 6 year old.

It's just not sporting.

Audit the NFL:

Say avg team has 80,000 seats and assume they sell all the seats for the season. Weighted avg. seat price is $85.00 https://www.teammarketing.com/public/uploadedPDFs/nfl%20fci%2014.pdf   thats only  6.8 million a game the avg team is bringing in.  times the 8 home games a year they play and your at 54.4 million.   The avg. NFL player salary is only about 2 million per year beleive it or not http://www.businessinsider.com/charts-expose-how-badly-nfl-players-get-p... 53 man roster times 2 million = 106 million per year.  Yeah there's licensing deals and such but I'm not sure how much it is it must be alot because they need to be bringing in about twice as much as the ticket sales just to make the player payroll.  Of course that isn't even counting any other expenses staff, admin, travel, building, and utilities for building, etc how does it work?  Oh yeah, couple billion from the network every year or about 200 million per team http://www.forbes.com/sites/kurtbadenhausen/2011/12/14/the-nfl-signs-tv-...
