Caught On Tape: Uber X's Latest Driver, Deadmau5 Taking Fares In His $300,000 Mclaren 650S
While Uber faces lawsuits and blockades around the world, it appears Toronto just took the Taxi 2.0 experience to a whole new level. Deadmau5, the famous Canadian DJ, is the latest to become an Uber X driver, and as Jalopnik shows below, he turns up in his brand new Mclaren 650S to pick up a few fares...

Living in a house of 5000 meters?
GTF out.
I wonder, how many musicians are visiting this site daily? Ever since I discovered zero hedge I have no more time for the gearslutz...Anyhow, I liked what he did with Imogen Heap even though I don't give a crap about him or the entire DJ "culture".
i can see..pop..pop usd...

I, see you and me, as armageddon family.
There are a few of us. At least in the early days we used to get together on irc and have zhedge radio parties. Marla was a great DJ. It was actually her influence that got me into making electronic music after years in guitar driven post grunge bands. Nothing more rewarding that I have found so far as laboring over music.

Funny. One cool DJ can revive my faith in humanity.
Hope? I hope so.
Deadmau5 made perhaps one of the greatest musical masterpieces known to humanity (in a collab project w/ Kaskade)
I Remember
I think "one of the greatest musical masterpieces known to humanity" might be stretching it a bit, but it's undoubtedly great music.
The 70s are vastly underrated. I was listening to Yvonne Elliman's "If I Can't Have You" last night. Great tune. Great voice. Was not previously aware that it was written by the Gibbs. Knock the Bee Gees all you want. Those dudes made good music.
And then you delve deeper and get into Donna Summer's MacArthur Park Suite, and holy shit! The transition between MacArthur Park and You're One of a Kind! Moroder is a fucking GENIUS. that guy nearly single-handedly invented the most popular music genre ON EARTH. And he did his best stuff two generations ago. Lest you think he's irrelevant now, not only did he pen the score to "Scarface," but he also wrote the score for Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. This guy has been relevant for a LONG time. His musical fingerprints are all over pop culture for forty years and counting.
And now I'm going to come full circle and say that Random Access Memories by Daft Punk (2013), which is basically a tribute to all the music that made the Robots what they are, and what made them THE inspiration of modern EDM, could not possibly exist without everything, and I mean everything that encompassed 1970s music.
Edit: I completely neglected to mention Nile Rodgers, the hit maker. Chic, David Bowie, Madonna, the Rolling Stones, Duran Duran, Diana Ross, the B-52s, Sugar Hill Gang, Sister Sledge, the list goes on and on and on. Yeah, he's all over the album too. He's the guy that discovered Stevie Ray Vaughn ffs. Dude is a legend, even if no one's ever heard of him.
I'll shut up now. It's maybe the best album (and it IS an album) in a generation, regardless of genre, and it's a tribute. Let that sink in.
+1000
Love some 70s music and have enjoyed the return of its influence recently. Random Access Memories is where/how I heard about Giorgio Moroder.
I don't know if it is because of the age of the artists, or because people need happier music in hard times, but I like it.
The best and most musical electronic music for the past four years has been a sub genera, liquid D'n'B. While not necsarily party anthems you'll be quick to find tracks on MrSuicideSheep (Youtube channel) to please even clasical music fans. D'n'B is on top because it's ridding humanity of 4:4 meter and replacing it with complex meters.

McLaren 650S
I feel like you are all missing the awesomeness of the idea of your taxi being a MCLAREN 650S.

I'd like to see him do that down in Ferguson. That is one of the drawbacks to the UberX model. How many of these drivers are going to pick up a fare in a low rent shithole like East New York at 2am in the morning. UberX is a good idea but still a niche business model considering the clientele that would use it at this point. Using Deadmau5 to push the brand doesn't expand it out of that base.
I like the idea and what it stands for from a sponetaneous decentralized freedom point of view as a business service goes but it is way overvalued in many facets including it's market valuation at this point. A model like this should be just as easy to startup and finance using bitcoin for example than the stock market since you really don't need $1B to make this type of a business model work. You could just as easily have smaller independent nodes of Uber like services run locally that network as needed working around existing finance and payment structures without any one centralized ownership base which is how UberX is structured.
Who is dead menu five ?
A cheap marketing stunt to sell more records.
One threatening letter from Ferrari and Deadmuas got rid of the Purrari. That was sad.

Am I missing something? Who gives a shit about some rich kid giving rides in a car that is more expensive than the houses most people live in?
