Why Worry? The Two Scariest Charts In The World

There are plenty of things to worry about these days. A cursory look through today’s (13 Sep 14) drudgereport.com sets the tone: the Pope says WWIII is underway; a senior Democrat accuses the Republicans of endangering civilization; drones are invading the privacy of citizens; militias are blocking traffic in the Mexican border; Feds run a US$589 billion budget deficit; the UK might fall apart; the Ebola epidemic is getting serious in Africa; a mystery virus spreads to NY and CT (and we could not resist adding this one: Hillary Clinton is doing yoga).
With all of this in our minds it is easy to forget, or at least put in proper context, the extraordinary progress that mankind has achieved over the centuries against remarkable odds. World population has steadily increased, proving Malthus wrong. Serious diseases like polio and smallpox, which affected even monarchs and presidents over the centuries, have been eradicated. We can crisscross the planet in less than 24 hours and put satellites in deep space. The baby boomers and their offspring are the most prosperous generations the world has ever seen.
This shows that with enough intelligence, political will, common sense and perseverance most challenges we face as a species can be overcome. This should provide a decent amount of hope that we can tackle whatever we are facing right now.
So why worry?
Well, what will happen if we start losing those qualities and values as a global society? Which is why we believe that the following graphs are the scariest in the world today:

The average world citizen is getting dumber while our means of doing harm are increasing. This trend is clearly not our friend.
Consider the following.
Countries around the world today spend over US$1.7 trillion on weaponry - more than the total global investment in energy supply. Beyond the manufacturers and suppliers downstream, this produces zero economic benefits (weapons become obsolete very quickly and do not generate any returns; on the contrary as, well, they blow stuff up) and the associated costs add to already bloated government debt levels. And that’s US$1.7 trillion less available each year to improve world education, food and fuel availability, the environment and shifting global demographics, all critical issues of the 21st century.
Also concerning is the fact that control over these weapons can be quickly lost, creating the prospect of blowbacks, never ending conflicts and major tragedies.
Prior to 1991, the Soviet Union had more than 27,000 nuclear warheads and plenty of weapons-grade uranium and plutonium to triple that number. While there have been no confirmed reports of missing or stolen former-Soviet nuclear weapons (astonishing given all the political and economic turmoil since then), there is ample evidence of a significant black market in nuclear materials. How long before someone in that rapidly expanding pool of idiots gets a hold of some is anybody’s guess.
Note: accidents can happen as well, adding to the unease of handling this type of firepower. For instance, in 1961, a B-52 carrying two nuclear bombs broke up in mid-air, dropping its nuclear payload very close to Goldsboro in North Carolina. Five of the six fuses designed to prevent a detonation failed in one of the bombs, with only the last one averting a nuclear explosion. That was an unbelievable close call.
And now turmoil is spreading across the Middle East yet again. With all the conflict going on, anyone showing up and volunteering to fight for one of the sides will be given free food and weapons, courtesy of the associated regional and international powers. Will those weapons stay there, concerning as that might already be for local populations, or will they be used elsewhere, even if the conflict is contained or resolved? As we all know fundamentalists – probably the most idiotic of the bunch – are ready to do anything.
Humanity cannot risk its future falling into the hands of increasingly lethal buffoons. The stakes are just too high now. Hopefully our leaders are paying attention, but this should concern us all. Let’s try to be smart about it – while the smart is still going.

Good at obeying. Not so at creativity or individualism.

I love that ZH brought up this topic. It stands to reason that world IQ as an average will continue to go down and down. The future human majority is going to be a mindless, violent, ignorant mob. You need only look around you. The best and brightest seem to hardly ever have children. If they do, it is one. That way their raw number declines every generation.
Do I need to tell you who is having babies, here in the USA and across the world? We all know. I see it in my small town, the truely ignorant and mindless rabble have 2-5 kids on average here. In fact, it seems they are almost the only ones having kids. And their kids start having babies when they are 17.
True life story. I know a Doctor who treats drug addiction. He says in private, that on average, his drug addicted clients all have more than replacement numbers of children. One heavy opiate addict, 25 years old, has about 7 kids by 5 different women. And we all know this from looking around.
I will be thankful I lived my life when I did, the future is looking very bleak. That movie Ideocracy was dead on. Idiot hill billies and ignorant ghetto trash have way over replacement numbers of kids. The nearest big town I visit has it's ghetto, what you see is kids running everywhere. Go to an up scale white middle class professional area, and good luck seeing a child! Self selection for elimination, that is what bright and intelligent people have mapped out for their fate. Great minds and clever imaginative people seem least interested in passing the genes down in children.

I'm believer in the idiocracy documentary. That said, I have 3, dont know that I would had I known then what I know now. We are raising the shit out of them. The are going to be damn good people and think for themselves, but it is an uphill struggle. Even families in the neighborhood who I like and respect are raising some crappy kids. Maybe it's just too much effort fighting against the world, it's a huge effort. It will be a struggle for them to survive living on values where no one owes you anything and you must earn your way through the world.

Fairly bogus (and meaningless) data set. Many studies have shown IQ in individual countries is actually increasing over time (attributed to TV and internet, interestingly enoough.)
The growth in population of undeveloped countries brings down the global average, but those undeveloped countries honestly have almost zero impact in the world at large unless enabled (e.g. permitting immigration or giving them weapons.) So virtually the whole of the problems in the world lays at the feet of TPTB of the developed world, and this particular arrangement of things really hasn't changed for hundreds of years.

1) IQ is a relative measurement so average world IQ is always 100 by definition, plus IQ is increasing in developed countries, and developing countries are for the most part improving economically, which precedes improvements in education.
2) Military spending charts are meaningless unless they're adjusted for BOTH inflation, AND for the ability of nations to pay that bill. Easy way to do it is to put it in terms of percent of total GDP, assuming non-rigged GDP figures are used.
What about hedonic adjustments for the military expenditures? You can kill way more people with the same stuff now compared to 50 years ago.

I think the reasons are that civilization is dominated by enforced frauds, which require the vast majority of people be conditioned to not want to understand the exponential function, nor anything else to do with basic mathematical physics which would reveal that our civilization is actually being controlled with systems of legalized lies, backed by legalized violence, which are affronts to elementary common sense, and utterly absurd ... BUT NEVERTHELESS, the power of violence to back up lies has resulted in the foundation of political economy becoming enforced frauds.
BOTH THE DECREASING INTELLIGENCE AND INCREASING BELLIGERENCE HAVE THE SAME FUNDAMENTAL SOURCE, WHICH SPREADS OUT TO INFLUENCE EVERYTHING THAT HUMAN CIVILIZATION IS DOING: THE SOCIAL "SUCCESS" OF CONTROLLING CIVILIZATION THROUGH LIES BACKED BY VIOLENCE HAS THOSE TWO CONSEQUENCES OF AVERAGE PEOPLE GETTING STUPIDER, WHILE HUMAN INTELLIGENCE GETS APPLIED TO BECOME BETTER AT BEING DISHONEST AND BACKING THAT UP WITH VIOLENCE MORE THAN ANYTHING ELSE.
Since everything that human civilization actually does is controlled by backing up lies with violence, that is why our attitudes towards the future are so starkly insane, and become more insane at an exponentially increasing rate. The primary factors that decided what human civilization did was the ability of some human beings to kill other human beings, and thereby, force all the survivors to agree with those murderers' bullshit social stories. That drove civilization to be controlled by the people who were the best at being dishonest and backing that up with violence, while everyone else adapted to live inside that social slavery system, in which deliberately ignoring the truth, and agreeing with huge lies, was the most successful personal strategy for the vast majority of people, despite that requiring that they devolved to become political idiots which had an apparent "inability to understand the exponential function," which was driving the debt slavery systems that surrounded them from cradle to grave to generate numbers which would become debt insanities, while simultaneously that fraudulent accounting system based on making "money" out of nothing as debts would "pay" for strip-mining the planet. That is why human civilization will approach the limits to growth in the most insane ways possible. Furthermore, that is why there appear no politically practical ways to prevent that from happening.
Ideally, we should go through intellectual scientific revolutions, to better understand how human civilizations operate as general energy systems. However, doing that requires a radical critique of the concept of entropy, because the biggest bullies' bullshit dominated the philosophy of science, the same as it dominated every other social enterprise. The great paradox has been that natural selection always existed, and was internalized to become intelligence, which primarily got employed to create systems of artificial selection, such as successful warfare based on deceits, and successful political economy based on frauds.
The ONLY genuinely better resolutions to chronic political problems are better systems of artificial selection, which necessarily must have the death controlling human murder systems at their central core. The combined money/murder systems already DO control human civilization, but through the maximum possible deceits and frauds, which drive most people to become stupider, as they adapt to their social slavery, while a minority becomes better at being dishonest, and backing that up with violence. The money corrupting political processes allows for the privatization of profits, while losses are socialized.
The pollution of the environment, and the accumulating effects of all that upon human brains, tends to be deliberately discounted and disregarded because paying attention would upset the established systems which privatize profits, while socializing losses. Instead, the social systems are driven as far as possible towards insane business models which maximize private profits, while simultaneously maximizing socialized losses, such as the weapons businesses. The core to those vicious spirals is the funding of the political processes, corrupting the monetary system, to then drive worse and worse systems whereby the profits from frauds are reinvested in more frauds, through the funding of the political processes.
OF COURSE, I AGREE WITH THAT CONCLUSION: "Let’s try to be smart about it – while the smart is still going." HOWEVER, THAT ARTICLE MISSES THE MARK BY LIGHT YEARS, REGARDING WHAT BEING "SMARTER" WOULD TAKE, WHICH IS BETTER SYSTEMS OF ARTIFICIAL SELECTION, WHEREBY SCIENTIFIC REVOLUTIONS WOULD BE APPLIED TO POLITICS, AND ESPECIALLY TO MILITARISM.

The MAD Money As Debt system allowed people to destroy the future, by "paying" for the past and present with promises to pay in the future. As long as the economy could keep on exponentially growing, then that system could work. According to the Flynn effect (Flynn is a psychologist and IQ specialist from New Zealand) the average IQ has been going UP by 3 points every decade since 1900. So there is very little evidence that the average IQ will DROP in THIS century, in the way the upper chart supposedly indicates.
People who claim that the average IQ is dropping often argue that this is due to "deteriorating genes". That is what eugenicists claim since Francis Galton. Many currently active eugenicists are funded by the racist Pioneer Fund. The current director of the Pioneer Fund, Richard Lynn, was recently quoted by Zerohedge - also with the claim that the average IQ would be dropping. Lynn also "found" (with dubious research) that the average IQ in sub-Sahara Africa is only 69. That is IMHO racist research and shouldn't be published here (racial discrimination).

The "averages" are misleading.
Cumulative organic brain damages, I believe, are large factors, such as the runaway increases in autism, etc. ... Those in relatively protected environments may not suffer from that as much, while others would have the compounding effects upon their developing brains. I agree that IQ tests are culturally biased. However, I still believe that the basic environmental pollution levels, with life long cumulative effects, are the primary cause for why some people are getting stupider, as their brains are damaged.

Try as I may, I can't take your post seriously. You call bias on the notion that IQs are dropping and then dismiss racial differences of IQ as racial discrimination. Look, bellcurves exist, period. The exist for intelligence, IQ or another measure, they exist for sexual attractiveness, for physical strength, and, yes, for things like race and sex...etc. To deny bellcurves is bias and pretending they don't matter for ism's ists or phobes is what drives inaccurate results.
