Scotland's Salmond Resigns After Losing Independence Vote

Tyler Durden's picture

Another person joins the CEO exodus from yesterday so he too has more time to BTFATH now that BTFD has been made impossible as the market will never D again.

Per the Guardian, Alex Salmond’s resignation speech concludes:

Scotland can still emerge as a real winner … For me as a leader my time is nearly over but for Scotland the campaign continues and the dream shall never die.

And in other news, France's Sarkozy to return to politics, so net-net, a wash.

Today, the City of London Corporation rules victorious!

To those of you who voted yes --- for Scottish independence --- you have my admiration and deepest respect.

For those who voted no --- you have dishonored and shamed the memory of William Wallace and Constantín mac Áeda.

To pledge fealty --- once again --- to Westminster beggars belief --- but Scottish history is replete with duplicitous behavior --- so it doesn't altogether come as a shock.

Again we are presented with the notion that Scotland is but a land of England, and shall forever remain so!

The Militia Act of 1757 established that the Scots were not to be trusted with weapons --- evidently they will never be trusted with independence either!

I do find it interesting that in Dundee which was a 'yes' stronghold that a fire alarm necessitated everyone having to leave the building, not once, not twice, but 3 seperate times. And while the final count for 'yes' still won there, it was with a turnout rate of only 78 percent... much lower than expected:

Actually, I think that he has shown himslef to be a true statesman who accepted fulll responsibility for his failture. However, the seed has been sown. There WILL be another referendum, eventually,  especially if the English, as they historiically usually do when it comes to the Scots, WELSH on on their promises (e.g. the 1979 promise). Also, over 70% of the very young voted Yes while over 70% of the old farts voted for English vassaldom-linked pensions. (English really  means British as they are over 80% of the population of the UK and have all the money and power) If the English economy collapses after the financial sector loses grasp of the hypothecation and rehopethication going on (and trillions in derivatives), Scotland may lose fear of being under the friendly English boot.

You can have referenda until hell freezes over but it will not change. The United KIngdom does not permit independence through voting......only through armed struggle.

Ireland was never granted independence - it had to seize it.

India was refused Home Rule through the actuions of Churchill in 1935 - he would have stopped it in 1947 if he had been in power.

What matters is the Jewish community will feel safer in a Scotland that remains part of the United Kingdom.

http://bit.ly/1txqeJJ

I do wonder why there was no exit polling.  But since one can't be "anti-Israel" - no matter what Israel does - naturally, the referendum should not have even been held until Scotland's Jews - disproportionately wealthy, organized, and represented in the UK government, had had their say.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LbJif7vISQg

This is a dry run for the 2017 EU Referendum in the UK and shows how far they will go to rig votes.

The UK system works on paper ballots. Each ballot bears a number. The number tallies with the Voter List. The ballot is marked with a cross in pencil.

They know who is likely to vote, they know which way someone will vote, they are able to vote for them.

There is no legitimacy to elections in Britain and the system has been rigged for years

Fri, 09/19/2014 - 12:37 | 5234588 smacker
smacker's picture

A little admitted-to fact in the British voting system is that - given each ballot paper has a unique number on it as you say - when a person arrives to vote and gives his name, the apparatchik records the person's name and ballot paper number in a ledger.

This means that voting is not a secret process even though every single politician will tell you it is. They are lying. Why does this matter? Because the ledgers are supposedly locked away for N years but you can bet your last dollar that MI5 and Met Police have access to them to see how a person voted. Particularly important to them if there was a radical candidate on the ballot paper and a terror or revolutionary person under suspicion.

Voters receive a poll card from the returning officer at their local authority with details of their allocated polling place. They are not required to show the poll card (unless they are an anonymous elector[53][54]) or any other form of identification at the polling place in order to vote, except in Northern Ireland, where one piece of photographic ID must be presented at the polling station - a NI Electoral Identity Card, a photographic NI or GB driving licence, a United Kingdom or other EU passport, a Translink 60+ SmartPass, a Translink Senior SmartPass, a Translink Blind Person's SmartPass or a Translink War Disabled SmartPass.[55]

Having verified and marked off the voter's name and address on the list of electors, the presiding officer or poll clerk issues the ballot paper, calling out the voter's name, elector number and polling district reference,[56][57] unless the voter is an anonymous elector, in which case only his/her elector number is called out.[54] All ballot papers contain both an official mark (e.g. a watermark or perforation) and a unique identifying number; any papers issued without both these features (even if it is the presiding officer/poll clerk's mistake) will be invalid and rejected at the count. On a separate list (called the corresponding number list) the presiding officer or poll clerk writes the voter's elector number next to the unique identifying number of the ballot paper issued. However the secrecy of the vote is usually maintained, as at the close of the poll this list linking voters to their ballot paper numbers is sealed inside a packet which may only be opened by the order of a court in the event that the election result is challenged. The ballot paper is folded and then handed to the voter.

The voter marks the ballot papers in the privacy of a voting booth. If the ballot paper has been spoilt, the presiding officer/poll clerk can issue a new one after the old ballot paper is cancelled. Before placing the ballot papers in the ballot box, the voter has (in theory) to show the presiding officer or the poll clerk the official mark and the unique identifying number printed on the reverse of the ballot papers.

If a voter requests a ballot paper but someone has already voted in their name, or they are listed as having requested a postal vote, they can only cast a tendered ballot. After marking the tendered ballot in private, the voter must not place it in the ballot box. Instead, it must be returned to the Presiding Officer who will endorse it with the voter's name, elector number and polling district reference, before placing it in a special envelope. The voter's name and elector number is then written down in the 'List of Tendered Votes'. Although tendered ballots are not included at the count, they serve as a formal record that a voter has tried, but has been unable, to cast a vote and is evidence of a voter's concern about the conduct of an election. If a voter wants to make a complaint, marking a tendered ballot is the first step in pursuing the complaints procedure.[58]     Wikipedia

What this vote shows is that 55 percent of scotland's people are spineless. Anyone who voted no and dare fly the Scottish flag should have the flag shoved up their ass. They are traitors to their country. To you EU loving Nazi's go suck the queens dick. The EU is evil. How a person can be born in a country in EUROPE and yet put the EU before the country of their birth is traitorous and pathetic. Europe is so fucked full of spineless pukes that wont fight for their freedom. A continent that has a few patriots but mostly cowards who have allowed Muslims to take over their country without a fight. Your grandchildren will despise  you for what you did. At least your in the US most of us here will fight when the time comes. You Europeans will gladly surrender to your beloved EU. Bunch of nanny state loving losers.i don't want to see another remark on zh again about how evil the US is.
