First Germany, Now France Folds On Syrian Airstrikes

Tyler Durden's picture

In yet another rather embarrassing event for The White House, just days after President Obama praised the French for helping in the fight against ISIS, and General martin Dempsey noted "the French were our very first ally and they're with us again now," French officials have, according to Reuters, ruled out participation in airstrikes against Islamic State in Syria. With the fall of France (and Germany already saying "nein"), it appears the broad coalition is now a "coalition of none," as Obama has stated the US would not go it alone...

Last week...

Germany and the U.K. ruled out carrying out air strikes on Islamic State militants in Syria, a day after President Barack Obama authorized the start of U.S. air strikes there.

Turkey - the USA's closest ally in NATO among the Middle East - denies them its airbases for use as launch sites of airstrikes and will not support airstrikes in Syria

Iraq's newly-installed US-friendly PM al-Abadi defies the US and halts airstrikes on ISIS-held civilian areas

Last Friday...

President Obama and his staff are thanking France for agreeing to help in Iraq in the fight against the Islamic State.

"We look forward to coordinating with our French partners in the days to come," said White House spokesman Josh Earnest.

And now today...

  • FRANCE RULES OUT AIR STRIKES IN SYRIA AGAINST ISLAMIC STATE, FOREIGN MINISTER LAURENT FABIUS SAYS

The "Coalition of None" continues...

If you like your anti-ISIS airstrike coalition, you can't keep it...

Perhaps most concerningly for The US administration, the fact that Germany and France have denied the US leaves them instead sided with Russia's perspective on Syria and ISIS, as "there are deep concerns that the U.S. will bomb not only ISIS positions in Syria, but also the Syrian government forces."

Sodom and Gomorrah 101

Do you also remember that God told Lot he wouldn't destroy Sodom if Lot could find 50 honest men?  And Lot couldn't.

Then Lot Jewed God down to finding 10 honest men, but Lot could not even find ten.

Let Washington beware.

Bible 101:

God did not have this discussion with Lot; rather, the particular exchange to which you're referring was of that betwixt Abraham and the two angels God had sent to investigate claims aginst the depraved twin cities.  The two angels were sojourning, and they stopped to visit with Abraham on the way.  I thought it started with one hundred honest men and then settled at 5 -- but i could be mistaken on that detail.

not trying to be an ass here, but it's an important distinction; as it was with Abraham that God had made His covenant; and it is further important to note that Abraham remained in the hill country with his flocks and whatnot and Lot went down to dwell in the valley, wherein lay sodom and gomorrah...because, upon entering the land with his first cousin, Lot (from the Ur of the Chaldese), Abraham gave Lot his preference, so that there may not be enmity between them.  Lot later gave refuge to the angels when the city dwellers were demanding that he turn them over, such that they may be gang-raped.  Lot instead offered his virgin daughters to the rape-frenzied rabble; but they declined his offer, preferring instead the pleasures of forcible sodomy.

Lot would later bear children with at least one of those daughters; a union which resulted in the nation of moab, of whom were wrought Ruth & Naomi (of the book of Ruth)...Ruth and her mother Naomi found themselves gleaning in the fields of Judah, were taken in by the House of Boaz, Boaz & Ruth gave birth to a son named Jesse,  who just so happend to be the father of David, through whom the Messiah would come.  And so, Jesus & David can trace their roots back to Abraham and a nation founded upon incest.

And y'all thought the Bible was boring...

But of course, neither Germany nor France would be supporting the US. They don't want ISIS to target their countries. Setting that aside, both Germany and France are hopeful someone else will eventually be in power in Syria. Western Europe wants a Syrian leader that would be supportive of the building of a natural gas pipeline from Qatar through Syria and into Europe. Assad won't do it because the Russians said 'nyet'.

"If the Arab States are not worried enough to participate then FUCK THEM"

The Arab States cannot join in. They have populations that has seen Americans bomb them and bomb them, and then bomb them some more. These people justifiably HATE America. If those States help America too openly, their leaders can be toppled by their own citizens. So, that would be a NO.

It is unfortunate that the US has completely lost any credibility overseas during the last 15 years with a number of poor short term foreign policy decisions.
