Canada Warns Its Citizens Not To Take Cash To The USA

Tyler Durden's picture

Submitted by Martin Armstrong via Armstrong Economics,

The Canadian government has had to warn its citizens not to carry cash to the USA because the USA does not presume innocence but guilt when it comes to money. Over $2.5 billion has been confiscated from Canadians traveling to the USA, funding the police who grab it.

If you are bringing cash to the land of the free, you will find that that saying really means they are FREE to seize all your money under the pretense you are engaged in drugs with no evidence or other charges.

It costs more money in legal fees to try to get it back so it is a boom business for unethical lawyers to such an extent than only one in sixth people ever try to get their money back and the cops just pocket it. That’s right. Money confiscated is usually allowed to be kept by the department who confiscated it.

This is strangely working its way into funding police and pensions.

This is identical to the very issue that resulted in the final collapse of Rome when the armies began to sack cities to pay for their pensions. We are at that level now with respect to seizing whatever they want knowing you will have to spend more in legal fees to assert your rights that do not really exist.

Those trying to flee tyranny elsewhere can not bring money with them for the police get to take it on this end.

This pretend war on terrorism is really a wholesale war against the people. It serves as the justification to seize whatever they desire ever since 9/11 as reported by the Washington Post.

I'M A CANUCK AND THE GUYS I KLNOW IN BUSINESS CARRY LOTS OF CASH, AS I DO. ALL VENDORS, ESPECIALLY RESTAURANTS, APPRECIATE THE CASH AND THEY SAVE THE USURIOUS FEES CHARGED BY THE PLASTIC BANKSTERS

I TRAVEL ALOT IN EUROPE AND NO ONE WHO TRAVELS ALOT EVER USE AMERICAN TRAVELLER'S CHEQUE.  NO ONE WANTS THEM AND YOU CAN LOSE OVER 20% OF THE VALUE.  IF YOU DON'T WANT TO CARRY CASH YOU ARE BETTER SUING AN ATM MACHINE TO GET YOUR CASH OUT AND USE AS NEEDED.  THE FEES BY THE ATM/CURRENCY CHARGE IS NEGLIGBLE COMPARED TO THE DISCOUNT OF AMERICAN TRAVELLER'S CHEQUES.

Here's an article in the CBC about it. It's not crossing over the border that's the problem, it's getting stopped by some Fascist cop along the highway. Same warning should be issued to Americans. Welcome to the US Fascist police state.

Yup,

Recently wanted to move $20,000 out of the bank (excess working capital in a business account) and into more steel, lead and "barbaric relic," as my local "barbaric relic" dealer had made a large purchase and I wanted to grab some. I planned it out as if I as lived in East Germany or something.

First, I had a friend draft up fake bill of sales and other docs for vans from his lot for around the amount I was withdrawing. I then coupled that with a folder full of random and messy documents and a happy cover story of buying some vehicles for new hires to use. This mess I then showed the teller at the bank as cover for why I needed to withdraw my own money. I also hoped to prevent her from turning me in to the Feds in addition to the large cash withdraw reporting form she will provide them. I had to do this twice, as the first branch manger asked if I would be so kind as to get half from another branch, as the full $20,000 would hamper her operations.

I then had an employee idling outside pick me up and drive me to my car elsewhere while I looked for gun and badge thugs that the teller or manager may have alerted--some tellers and pharmacy clerks are paid rewards to be informants.

At the second branch there was a gun and badge thug's car idling across the parking lot when I came out and jumped into my employee's idling car at the door. Probably a coincidence, though I had never seen one there before. What would have happened if weren't a coincidence and I had gone strolling out to my car instead of being picked up at the door...

If I may be so bold as to speak for Americans, I think OUR point is, you OR us shouldn't have to declare money, its your cash and none of their business. Everyone is being treated like criminals by "declaring" how much cash they have, its legal tender so fuck them.

As a point, no one has to "declare" they have a $50,000 card limit, now why is that? Because they want to know what you spend on, they want to know everything and track you, its none of their damned business what you do with your after taxed money.

An important detail about these CFZ's is that they extend away from the roads that exit the zone along the border, so that if you get within a certain distance of a road that comes out of the CFZ you get dunned also. It's gross. Once a Canuckian city cop bragged to me about just that: he was in training and during a ridealong his 'mentors'  picked up a dealer and were questioning the dealer's fiancee, when one noticed she was sporting a decent sized rock. He snatched it off her finger and said,

"Proceeds of crime baby!"

It wasn't so much the act that disgusted me (it did some, but the couple may well have been real dirtbags for all I know), it was the glee he seemed to get out of it that really rubbed me the wrong way.

True Story (that I heard this story)

No worries. It's only fiat. Canada can always print more.

When you travel to a foreign country and declare how much money you bring, that little memo goes directly to the bank where they're ready to balance it out, assuming it'll be a long while before the money comes back for redemption.

In case of the US, the assumption is that money going out never comes back, so the more you take out, the more magically appears back at the Fed. That was the whole reason behind OPEC and the ability to endlessly export debt via the petrodollar. How else was it possible to sustain consumption society for decades?

Canada doesn't care what happens to its fiat. It doesn't give a rat's ass about its citizens either. Watch how much effort it puts into rescuing hostages or fighting extradition charges, or bringing its citizens back from Gitmo held without a charge. Canada doesn't give a fuck.

All it worries about is the use of cash in general. Again, like any country it would love to have a record of every transaction taking place. It's not enough for the bank of Canada to know how much money goes out. It wants to know where every cent is spent.

The only real concern there probably is that money stonen by US cops is no longer available for the Canadian cops to steal. And that just ain't fair! Ain't fair!

I believe it! I got my cash and my rental car stolen by the Florida police because they found a bottle of non- narcotic perscription meds that my wife had left in the car. (They didn't take the meds.) Left me and my brother wirth our fishing gear in the median at 1 am on our trip home from fishing. Then the next day they kept raising the price of the release for the car so we said fuk it and let them keep it and let the rental place take care of it. This really happened in Melborne Florida and yes we are both law abiding US citizens.

Our wives had to drive clear accross the state to get us that morning......

This happened for real, and I have talked to others that say especially in Florida the small town cops taget rental cars...

There are small towns close to interstates where their biggest source of revenue is traffic fines. They set up roadchecks like fish nets. The goal is to skim as many travelers as possible. No excuse is big or small. They'll ticket you for going too fast, too slow, for trash, busted lights, exhaust fumes, tinted windows, worn out or under-inflated tires. They'll circle your car like sharks and bite it until it bleeds money. They know that once the car is taken, you'll be stranded and much more willing to fork over even more cash.

JuliaS, I'll go with  "yes, yes, yes, and no".  Hell's Bells,,,this ain't Nazi f'g Germany! If I was a Canadian, or any foreign tourist in the USA, and I was pulled over for maybe a missing tail light,,,tag light out,,,maybe you were speeding type of thing and the Officer asked if he 'can search your vehicle', tell him politely "No thanks, I'd rather not. Am I being Detained? (if 'no' then ask "Am I free to go?". (this applies to US citizens as well)

You don't have to consent to a Search...ok? You DON'T. Now that being said, if you broke a Law, such as dui, etc, or had a wreck, etc, I'd say odds favor they poke around and things would be different. You got lots of hippie lookin' stuff happenin' on you? Uhh,,,they look for that. They smell some 'smoke'?? Uhh,,,they are gonna bring a dog and sniff it.

My oldest son when he married four years ago wanted to go to Europe to spend the honey-moon with his wife, who was at the time the Spaniards were deported in droves Brazilians still at the airport. He went to Fernando de Noronha and did very well.

Oh, he knows the USA, did not want to embarrass themselves on honey-moon at airports.

Could be arrested if talking - no one in my wife puts her hand!

The youngest son will marry in December.

Cops in USA violate all your rights, in NY if you get stopped by a cop they rush to stick their hands in your pockets / jacket pockets/any opening in your clothing they can find, and pat you down without warning.

I seen some kids get pulled over the other day (they were just walking not really doing anything) and these cops just start badgering them and tapping their pockets/hoodie pockets checking for god knows what.... they yell at you to empty your pocket or just rudely stick their hands in your pockets, its very disgusting behavior frankly and very unprofessional. . . if I get noticed by a cop, first thing out of my mouth is, if you touch me im going to sue you, before they even get a word out, because its getting fucking ridiculous.

Easy does it there, Karaio. Your Portuguese is becoming entangled in a web of 'penis leather' type things that most of us and me certainly are having trouble understanding. Just exactly how did you know of the secret project to make old golf bags out of whale penis leather? And who are the people that tan this leather? How is it produced and what type of markets are you willing to sell it?? To the O'whaler in Chief? Will he buy a set of golf clubs encased in this type of leather? Hmm,,,,perhaps.

Tacos made from the same type of leather? A bit chewy, I'd assume. Time to go to work. Make a dollar. Then tonight, spend a dollar on new taco? Maybe steak from buffalo arse. /s :)

let's examine what you said: that by bitcoin having a hard limit of how many currency units there can be, that necessitates that the price will not drop 20%.

it is an ignorant statement, with no basis, those 2 things have nothing to do with each other.

gold has a hard limit as well, as to how much gold is on the earth - does that mean that gold can never drop 20%?

All this it is enough to send shivers down the back of those that have read about the totalitarian society of Oceania described in George Orwell's novel Nineteen Eighty-Four. In Orwell's novel, all citizens of Oceania are monitored by cameras and are fed fabricated news stories by the government. More on this subject in the article below.

I strongly agree with the ACLU on many, many issues.  However, they fail the liberty litmus test and I won't give them a dime. Until the ACLU realizes that the Bill of Rights is comprised of TEN amendments, they can go fuck themselves.

Given the reference to "a well regulated Militia" and "the security of a free State," the ACLU has long taken the position that the Second Amendment protects a collective right rather than an individual right.

"We need police officers as well as garbage collectors, firefighters, technicians in electricity and water, are public employees who provide important services. "

this is not a correct statement.

first, let's start with the word "we" - who is this "we"? different people have different values, so, you should only speak for yourself, for your own opinions, not try to claim that your values are the values of people in general.

second point, it is people who provide needed services, *people*, not government! government is an abstract concept, there is no such object. some of the services provided are useful, but there is absolutely no good reason for these services to be controlled by the corrupt, incompetent government. i don't mind paying for a security patrol, or for a fire station, but when these services don't provide value or are irresponsible or downright criminal (like "policemen" who rob citizens), i should have the right to say, i don't like what you're doing, i won't do business with you. when the corrupt government  controls these services, there is no option to back out.
