Canada Warns Its Citizens Not To Take Cash To The USA

The Canadian government has had to warn its citizens not to carry cash to the USA because the USA does not presume innocence but guilt when it comes to money. Over $2.5 billion has been confiscated from Canadians traveling to the USA, funding the police who grab it.
If you are bringing cash to the land of the free, you will find that that saying really means they are FREE to seize all your money under the pretense you are engaged in drugs with no evidence or other charges.
It costs more money in legal fees to try to get it back so it is a boom business for unethical lawyers to such an extent than only one in sixth people ever try to get their money back and the cops just pocket it. That’s right. Money confiscated is usually allowed to be kept by the department who confiscated it.
This is strangely working its way into funding police and pensions.
This is identical to the very issue that resulted in the final collapse of Rome when the armies began to sack cities to pay for their pensions. We are at that level now with respect to seizing whatever they want knowing you will have to spend more in legal fees to assert your rights that do not really exist.
Those trying to flee tyranny elsewhere can not bring money with them for the police get to take it on this end.
This pretend war on terrorism is really a wholesale war against the people. It serves as the justification to seize whatever they desire ever since 9/11 as reported by the Washington Post.

In my experience in Brazil, police attitudes and actions tend to vary from one city to another. In Rio & São Paulo they are much like any other big city - OTT when it suits them. In the interior and NE they tend to be more civilised as a rule.
In Rio, I recall seeing an "on duty" Policia Militar with a gun in his holster standing at a bar drinking a couple of shots of cachaça. Then there was the famous incident in Candalabra (sp?) when a bunch of off duty policemen pulled up in front of the church, pulled down their car window and shot dead a handful of street kids before driving off.

The civil forfeiture laws make it possible for the Police or Feds to seize just about anything you own (car, house, computers, cash, guns, you name it...) without ever accusing you of a crime. Even worse, they essentially file a civil charge against your property (not you), and you have to sue as a third party in civil court to get your own property back.
You don't have to cross the border - you could just be driving down the street with a tail light out.
As pointed out in the article - it often costs more to get your stuff back than it is worth, and also the cops will often threaten you with more serious charges which they will happily "drop" if you agree to sign a statement that you willingly turn over your property and won't sue to get it back!!
Its clearly unconstitutional, but its a cash cow for the Police and Feds. Only the victims seem to care. I wrote all of my elected officials on this - nothing happened.

I do think that police is fighting against one’s own population while (just) enforcing laws, just the politicans want. Why is it so hard to understand that theft is a crime and there is not difference between theft and taxe or other forced payments. How comes that a government can limit everyone’s life to their liking? Where’s the right in using violence against those who do not want the state?
For me government is part of the problem, not part of the solution. But still people do really think government over all and everyone would be a good thing. I don’t know how that comes…. Government means violence, even if the do enforce it against men who do nothing wrong but not following the “law”. It’s not to understand why you can get all kind of drugs but that having “harsher” drugs could be a crime. Whose rights are violated if you consume them. And it’s not the business of the state to delcare what kind of living is within some artificial “right”, and there is absolutly not way to pacify taxes and right. There is not right also to have payements for uemployment, retirement etc. On the other hand people do not have a right to get paid while not working or being retired. They have to save their money for their after-work-life.
And to save means, that no one has the right to inflate the money people used for keeping their savings, and so central banks never can be right but they onlly can be established by “laws” backed by pure violence from the government. And so we come back to policemen, they are not for “rights” but “laws” and so everyone could happily kill within his duty to the state. Strange enougn the processes of Nürnberg to have judged oterhwise. So tell me how many measure of rights to exist? How can it be that killing from a Nazi soldier was treated as crime but a killing from a cop in the USA is obeying the law and a service to the public?
A little bit terror might be good for the nation, which goes out on a robbery trip in the whole world.

Don't carry cash across international borders. There are thugs, both uniformed and not, who will rob you.
You can wire the money to a bank in the second country.
You can send it to yourself by Western Union or Moneygram. They are both cheaper than a wire transfer in a bank.
Have a friend or family member send the money. If there is some kind of glitch, you can't return to the place you sent it from. A phone call or email to the sender will fix things.
America's so corrupt no Canadian should travel there at all. Ever. It's not just your cash but your life on the line, your freedom.

I live abroad, hear these stories often. It is the worst with Canadians that make the mistake of a layover on return to Canada. A few people pulled out of line, questioned in one of those windowless rooms off the concourse, when she returned from Amsterdam and transferred in Detroit. Just don't go to the USA - and I am an American citizen. Do not come from Amsterdam, Cuba or Thailand or any of the list of nations on the USA's bad list.
