Australia Unleashes Draconian New Anti-Terror Law In Orwellian Orgy Of Baseless Fear-Mongering

Tyler Durden's picture

Submitted by Mike Krieger of Liberty Blitzkrieg blog,

Understanding how the power structure thinks, and how it intentionally manipulates the emotions of the masses, is key to overcoming and rolling back totalitarian ambitions. I have spent the last few posts talking about how instilling fear throughout the general populace is one of their primary tactics. Indeed, to borrow a term from Glenn Greenwald, “fear-manufacturing” has been in overdrive across the Five Eyes nations over the past several weeks. In the UK, we saw it used to convince elderly Scots to overwhelming vote against independence, thus swaying the result decisively to the NO side. In the USA, we have seen it used to drum up support for another pointless war in the Middle East, which will benefit nobody except for the military/intelligence-industrial complex.

While these examples are bad enough, nowhere is fear being used in a more clownish and absurd manner to strip the local citizenry of its civil liberties than in Australia. This should come as no surprise, considering that nation’s Prime Minister is a certified raging lunatic. In fact, Tony Abbott is such a little nazi in disguise, I dedicated a post to him back in June titled: Video of the Day – Meet Australia’s Creepy Prime Minister, Tony Abbott.

Remember, when the power structure sees a meme is working they double and triple down on it. With the beheading videos effectively pushing the American public back into a post-9/11 fetal position, it became clear that the fear of “beheadings” is enough to send the Western public into a total panic state. Then, suddenly a plot emerges that ISIS related terrorists were planning to publicly behead an Australian citizen in the middle of Sydney. As usual, mainstream media rushed to scare the shit out of everyone. NBC reported the following:

An apparent plot to publicly behead a random civilian on the streets of Sydney in support of ISIS sparked counter-terrorism raids backed by nearly 1,000 Australian police, officials said Thursday. Australian Federal Police said 15 people were arrested in relation to “serious terrorism-related offenses” in a massive pre-dawn operation. Prime Minister Tony Abbott told reporters that the raids came after intelligence showed an Australian occupying a “quite senior” rank within ISIS was making “direct exhortations” for supporters back home to kill. When asked about reports that those detained had been planning to publicly behead a random individual, “that’s the intelligence we received,” Abbott said. “This is not just suspicion, this is intent, and that’s why the police and security agencies decided to act.”

Glenn Greenwald at the Intercept had a very interesting follow up to this raid. He notes that:

UPDATE: A reader writes with an important clarification, supported by various media accounts:

Just one clarification on your article about the Australian ‘anti terror’ raids.

You said that 15 people were arrested. In fact, 15 people were detained under ‘preventative detention’ laws. But only one person has been charged under any terrorism related offence. A further 3 have been charged under non terrorism related offenses.

This despite the fact that the ‘threat’ was so high that the raids involved over 800 police.

A grand total of one person has been charged with terrorism-related crimes—one—and that has triggered a major fear campaign and a slew of legislative demands designed to dismantle basic legal protections. It is, indeed, a microcosm of a core disease of the 9/11 era.

Ah, but as we know, you never let the truth get in the way of a good story. Particularly a story that can be used to strip the plebs of civil rights. Which is precisely what happened last night at the Australian Senate. For details, let’s turn to the article in the Sydney Morning Herald titled, Terror Laws Clear Senate, Enabling Entire Australian Web to be Monitored and Whistleblowers to be Jailed. As an aside, ASIO stands for the Australian Security Intelligence Organization. We learn that:

Australian spies will soon have the power to monitor the entire Australian internet with just one warrant, and journalists and whistleblowers will face up to 10 years’ jail for disclosing classified information.

The government’s first tranche of tougher anti-terrorism laws, which beef up the domestic spy agency ASIO’s powers, passed the Senate 44 votes for and 12 against on Thursday night with bipartisan support from Labor.

The bill, the National Security Legislation Amendment Bill (No. 1) 2014, will now be sent to the House of Representatives, where passage is all but guaranteed on Tuesday at the earliest.

Anyone — including journalists, whistleblowers and bloggers — who “recklessly” discloses “information … [that] relates to a special intelligence operation” faces up to 10 years’ jail.

Any operation can be declared “special” and doing so gives ASIO criminal and civil immunity. Many, including lawyers and academics, have said they fear the agency will abuse this power.

Those who identify ASIO agents could also face a decade in prison under the new laws, a tenfold increase in the existing maximum penalty.

These changes have opposition support and would make it a criminal office to travel to a terrorist hot-spot without a reasonable excuse.

Oh, and this is just the first of three new anti-terror laws set to be introduced in Australia intended to neuter civil liberties. This is how freedom dies:

Have you read anything about that alleged state trooper bushwhacker, Eric Reim, in the Keystone State?  1,000 L and E employed to capture 1 dude?  Imagine what is would take to capture 1,000 bushwhackers.

Full disclosure:  Nothing I post is advocating any violent or illegal actions of individuals toward anyone.

At last, someone who understands guerrilla warfare.

He who fights and runs away, lives to fight another day.

A large mass of guerrilla fighters is impossible to defeat if their cause is popular within the general public, unless the invading force is massively overwhelming AND willing to wage war on a genocidal level.  Not very likely in a civil action in America.  Brother vs brother, and willing to wipe out extended family?  I doubt it.

When arms are plentiful, anyone is a potential guerrilla.

If you focus on the TPTB's obvious fear of and contempt for the Second Amendment I think you will find more meaning and clarity than you will trying to apply SAT style logic-problems as a thought experiment.

When are all of these guns going to rise up and save us?

Uhhhh, when the situation gets bad enough that a significant number of people realize it is time.  When would that be in Oz?  Or in the UK?  When a soldier can't walk down the street without being beheaded?

And would they buy 2 billion rounds hollowpoint and put armored vehicles into local police departments if this wasn't a concern.  You don't support shyt.

"When are all of these guns going to rise up and save us?"

Never.

Americans have proven they will not rise up in sufficient numbers to force any change on this govt.

Sufficient numbers is the key point.  It would take a million armed (ready to shoot / die) march on DC to bring any change for the better.  A million ready to shoot / die just wouldn't happen.  Not even a hundred thousand.

So 400 million guns is meaningless in 2A terms.  Americans will not use their 2A right to stop govt tyranny.  Forget it.

1775 began with a mere handful.  It only grew once some of the TPTB decided that an idea trumped their own personal status.  George Washington was among the very very richest in Colonial America.  He committed open treason, placing his very considerable assets and the necks of him and his family in grave danger.

It requires a certain amoundt of organization; and a "general", if you will; some inside agents would be very helpful. But no organization can continue in the face of on-going 25% casualties; that has been proven over and over. as for the drones; where there is technology there is anti-technology. the Peoples army must have a propaanda arm, and workable, practical policies; such as amesty and parole for surrendering .gov troops. they're there to eat  donuts and collect their pensions, not to become casulties. casulties and a good propaganda and policy arm will cause mass defections.

You tried to tell 'em Mensch, but half of them didn't listen.

Detroit, Rodney King, Ferguson ... maybe you should give some guns to your fellow darker brethren.  Gun or no gun, they seem to be quite unified and stand up for each other ... but I still don't see them storming DC and Wall St any time soon.  Perhaps you need to take out the comms grid - No comms and the dictators can't tell you what to do.  Force the dictators to bring the fight to you.  (But they'll still send their blue representatives first).

For all the gun owners out there, would you have done "the aftermath of the Boston bombing" differently?  A dozen goons with all the goon-gear knocking on your door, ready to arrest and confiscate, what is your next move?  Now you're in jail and the rest of the world has moved on without you, like nothing has happened.  Winning?  Not criticising, just asking.  If you don't think then you can't plan.

Go ahead, polish your barrels.  I like guns too.  We have all these pro/anti gun-debates and it's a nice little distraction ( actually it's a fucking annoying distraction ) and you miss noticing that the world is moving on.  You're polishing an AR-15, not a musket.  Can that thing take out a drone?  At 17000 feet?

Perhaps Washington will reassess its tune when they've got a dozen unidentified drones circling the White House.  But my guess is that those drones will all be "official" ones for the "protection of the White House" and all stamped "Black Water", "JPM" or "Squid", and none will be stamped "Fully autonomous, here are my demands:  Piss off" or "Middle of Nowheresville, cut my taxes or else try and find me fucker!"

Choose the narrative you wish to enable:

"Sssssshhhh!!!!  Just let him play with his guns.  Hopefully he won't notice the other toys in his backyard"
vs
"Ban guns!  Ban guns! (Good.  Now he's so busy defending guns he won't notice the drones)"

The world has moved on.  You seriously need to add drones to your inventory.

The "other" drones will follow you to your gold and gun stashes and then take them while you're busy at work.  Winning?

Hell, I don't know.  I'm not you and I'm not there and personally, I'll never "be ready" so feel free to look elsewhere for good advice and sorry I wasted your time.  Keep up the "good fight", but please keep it in the back of your minds - while you're defending your guns you're not adapting to what else is out there.  Don't let the fuckers keep you running round in circles.  Perhaps, "My drones help me enforce 2A that helps me enforce 1A".  Make the fuckers sorry they ever mentioned guns because now you're noticing a lot of other stuff too.

They took our guns twice.  And the same PM sent us to war twice.  Do they want us to know how to use guns or not?  BTW, we still get regular news stories about people being shot.  Whenever I see those stories on TV, I always make a point of saying loudly to everyone withing earshot, "How come that criminal has guns?  I thought he had to givem them to the gummint!!!"

About a year or two ago there was a news article about cops confiscating two fully automatic pistols.  The things looked like they were home made - ratty finish of the metal, duct tape around the handles.  MSM were bleating, "Police are trying to determine whether the guns were local or imported, factory made or home made."  Looked pretty obvious to me, but then I'm no expert.

But yeah, we got a lot of pansies here that shriek in fright when any one mentions "speeding" or "guns".

Australia is obediently following its master's deep descent into a fascist, police state.  The "free world" is now an accurate Orwellian monicker.  Fear and hate have always been the best way to divest the populace of its liberties and senses:

The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary.

JustObserving - Great Mencken quote. I have learned your better off with a good lawyer than a gun against government robbers but good to have a gun for home defense against individual robbers. beaurocrats hate paperwork and like most humans, want to work less for more pay. So if you want to stand on principles and defend yourself (which helps your society) be willing to spend $15,000 on a lawyer to fight the $8,000 robbery, I mean fine.

In the end of all the issues and details is the concept of self-defense, defending oneself from groups of robbers and the biggest will always be government. All one can really do in nature is try to make it painful so a predator looks for a different lunch. If you don't learn this lesson you become the lunch. It is that simple.

I agree with the commentator that insinuated that an armed population is less likely to face genocide when they collectively tell the robbers "no" but it certainly does not seem to protect a citizenship from rights being rescinded so more robbery can take place. The hypocracies of state of course are maddening, one is forced to pay more attention to it which sucks or you become lunch. Time is the only commodity that cant be bought so groups of robbers wasting it is maddening.

The only solution to terrorism is to do racial profiling.. There is really nothing wrong with that but the big govt playing to political correctness would not want that.. Imagine if TSA only single out Muslim for check and  not a old white lady, we could have save so much budget wasted on homeland security. Imagine if NSA only monitor internet/phone usage on Muslim and not entire population, we could have save 90% ofthe NSA budget. But the govt doesn't want that, the US govt want to peep and  control every motherfcuker out there to justify their big govt budget!

No one I know is taking any of it seriously as the propoganda is too blatent even for the most retarded indevidual... So we do what we Aussies do, laugh crack open a beer and enjoy the footie. Ohno - I used to be afraid as a US citizen we would become France. Now I am no longer afraid. In all seriousness I think everybody on this blog has a healthy fewr of getting robbed and they should. However, living life in fear makes it not worth living.

The global memo just looks like "fuck you I got mine and here are all the cops to ensure it stays that way"

I think King Solomon was right, there truly is nothing new under the sun. He also realized even when you have it all to the nth it is vanity.

In the end mankind is now collectively wasting a lot of time right now in this fear cycle. People want the opportunity to benefit over the fear of loss. Police states are terrible for confidence! Why have ZIRP and other monetary policies to push people to spend until confidence is restored when confidence is being destroyed faster with a police state?

We have the tech to finish our human evolution within a century. Why work toward any other collective goal when no matter how rich, one gets old, shits there pants on a regular basis and then die (and you shit yourself when that happens too)?

The most insidious part of the new anti-terror laws is that you don't have to actually be planning a terrorist act, or have commited a terrorist act to be branded a terrorist and charged and potentially convicted of a terrorism offence.

You just have to have some affiliation with someone who might be a suspected terrorist, to be branded a terrorist and charged with terrorism yourself.

Fuck...I used the words terrorist and terrorism ten times in this post.  Now the AFP can kick in my door, rifle through my porn history and hold me without charge for the duration of their investigation.  Get this, as I technically won't be in the custody of the state, I will not be entiled to the legal protections that the common rapist or murderer might enjoy.

Some idiots want ultra freedom in the country - like many countries that are now over run by scum.  But when there is a terrorist attack the dumb sheep scream for government to protect them.  Don't blame your representatives for taking action that you demanded - but maybe not in exactly the manner you wanted.  I have no problem with government except for the demands put on them to give out free shit and regulate every little thing because of political correctness, greens, racists of all colors, activists that can't stand that others may have a little more or seem to be happier, and the list is endless.  Look what happened to the TEA party people that for the most part are average law abiding citizens that simply wanted smaller more responsible government - they have been smeared as being a radical and racist group which so frightened and demoralized the descent people that wanted no trouble that they found it safer to just keep their heads down - thus letting the divisions in the country get worse.  If you want your government to deal with groups like MS13 then expect them to prepare accordingly - then do not be surprised if when you get in the face of law enforcement that they seem overly aggressive.  Its the shitheads that are now dictating the actions of society and you idiots are to stupid to see it. Learn to deal with problems at a local level instead of being lazy and expecting all things handed to you and government to protect you.

At least Australia is trying to keep the scum out unlike this country. I know first hand what has happened to Denmark and Holland, who were too welcoming.

Look in the mirror and then down vote me when you fail to see.

What terrorist attack?

We didn't 'demand action'.

Australia like the US should not be involved in futile wars fought over oil & gas - not terrorism as they would have you believe.

LOL! I don't know why anyone is surprised by any of this. I'm born and bred in Australia but thank God, I've had the opportunity to travel extensively so I've seen much of the rest of the world.

Let me tell you, Australia is a JOKE of a country. The ULTIMATE nanny state/ police state, Stockholm syndrome suffering, authority worshipping, massively overpriced shithole of the South Pacific. I've never understood why the rest of the world perceives it as some kind of laid back, easy going, freedom loving sanctuary where we all lay around on the beach, drink beer and do pretty much as we please. Nothing could be further from the truth.

I have never met any people, anywhere else in the world that ADORE authority, laws and regulations like brain dead Australians. I tell you, listen to talkback radio in Australia and you will not believe your ears: people call up to COMPLAIN that laws are not being passed fast enough to satiate their rabid appetite for more authoritarianism. Australians BRAG about how highlty regulated we are, mistakedly believing that such overregulation signifies a modern, advanced society. Meanwhile, all our jobs are shipped offshore due to huge taxes, overregulation, reams of red tape and sky high minimum wages, coupled with the worlds most obscene property bubble.

All you ever here in the Australian MSM is; "We just need to trust government, trust the police and give them whatever powers they need to keep us safe". Anyone who offers even the meekest protest is automatically labeled a loon and ridiculed mercilessly.

People laugh as Obama dismantles and wrecks America from within but at least in the US, there are still constitutionalists who actually believe in freedom, free markets, individual rights and object to their country being turned into a police state. In Australia, I'm guessing that 90% of the brain dead population would not even know what the word libertarian means. Australians literally HATE freedom and worship the state as near Gods.

Fuck Australia and its filthy fascist authoritarian government.
