Contained? Dallas Hospital Discharged Sick Ebola Patient 2 Days Before Isolation

Tyler Durden's picture

While yesterday's CDC press conference was factual, it was clearly very much designed to avoid panic as time and again the US public was reassured that Ebola in America was 'contained', 'hard to contract', and would 'stop here'. However, as Bloomberg reports, the man with Ebola in Dallas was initially sent home from the hospital with antibiotics after seeking treatment for an unknown illness, officials said. We know CDC has stated the need for the US to be prepared but the fact that after the patient sought medical care on Sept. 26 and was sent home with antibiotics, he returned in an ambulance to Texas Health Presbyterian two days later and was admitted, suggests US healthcare workers are not prepared for the possibilities that Ebola is here in America (as this is the 13th possible case in the US).

As Bloomberg reports,

A man with Ebola in Dallas was initially sent home from the hospital with antibiotics after seeking treatment for an unknown illness, officials said.

...

The man is being kept in isolation in an intensive care unit. He had no symptoms when he left Liberia and began to show signs of the disease on Sept. 24, the CDC said. He sought care on Sept. 26, was hospitalized two days later at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital and is critically ill, said CDC Director Thomas Frieden.

Do not worry though...

“There is no doubt in my mind that we will stop it here,” Frieden said at a press conference in Atlanta.

The man was traveling to the U.S. to visit family and was staying with them. He was exposed to only a “handful” of people during the time when he had symptoms, including family members and possibly some community members, according to Frieden, who said there was little risk to anyone on his flight.

“Ebola doesn’t spread before someone gets sick, and he didn’t get sick until four days until after he got off the airplane,” Frieden said. “So we don’t believe there was any risk to anyone on the flight at that time.”

...

“It’s not a potential of Ebola spreading widely in the U.S.,” Frieden said on a July 31 conference call with reporters. “That is not in the cards.”

...

“There shouldn’t be any new infections from this point on,” Osterholm said. “We are going to shut this down.”

Finally...

Another suspected Ebola case is being evaluated at a National Institutes of Health facility, U.S. officials said, the 13th such possible infection in the U.S. All others have tested negative.

First rule of communism: You have no rights, we'll decide everything.

Frieden as the stupidest head of the CDC apparently doesn't understand that he is supposed to STOP diseases spreading not "manage" them. Oh wait, he's never said to the NEW 50,000 new Aids cases each year that gay men don't have a right to keep "procreating" new Aids patients (Plus another 6000 to 8000 mostly black women who are infected from bisexual black gay men). Or there are the lepers they are letting into the US (all third worlders because, after all, America can't expect itself to stay free of leprosy; and then they blame it on people touching armadillos in Texas).

Frieden, one has to wonder, just can't wait to get all that money that will now have to come to treat and control ebola. Or maybe it's just that this is part of Oboma's plan to turn America, once and for all, into a complete cesspool that looks just like Africa.

The first rule of medicine is not "first do no harm;" the first rule of medicine is Don't Ever Think You Are Smarter Than Nature! Frieden is just like Julia Pierson: stupid stupid stupid. This is the essence of liberalism: promote based on politics not on smarts.

I do agree with you, but also understand that the elections are rigged. Obama and the repubs are the same face, just different sides. That being said, there is a huge wave of anti-establish political descent out there. To unseat the status quo could be a bit unsettling for the current seated members, even if the elections could be rigged accordingly. The sheeples sentiment may cause upheaval when the establishment wants conformity from a sick populace.

I know it's going off topic, but there is not really a wave of anti-establish political dissent out there. I don't like Obama, so I am not defending him, but his approval rating is sitting at what? 47% From Rasmussen poll OCT 1st.

The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Wednesday shows that 47% of Likely U.S. Voters approve of President Obama's job performance. Fifty-two percent (52%) disapprove

That looks like the same ol same ol split of blue and red.

Elections are the last thing ebola is about. In fact I fully expect BOTH sides to try and use it to their advantage, but there will be a vote. There will be no marsha law. It's always Marsha marsha marsha!

This may have purposely been brought out "before the November Elections" . That has been my analysis of the situation since July when the Ebola news started. Remember, we are being led by extreme evil in this current stage of world history.

By November, Elections may be canceled due to "outbreak. Just in time for Martial law.

Things are moving fast now.

I hope and pray my gut feeling is not correct, and it probably isn't. But, some time soon, we are going to feel the fist in the face, so to speak.

This has nothing to do with the election.

They gave him antibiotics to fight a virus? Medicine fail. This is actually worse than doing nothing because it forces bacteria to evolve and become resistant to antibiotics. You'll always have some bad bacteria in you, and now that bacteria is slightly stronger than before. Also, good bacteria are a significant part of your body, and antibiotics are a scorched earth approach to medicine. They do severe damage to your body because they don't differentiate between good bacteria and bad bacteria.

How is what you're saying applicable to a virus where antibiotics don't do anything?  How is ebola going to mutate because of them?  It's an RNA based disease, it will mutate because of opportunities via a host's DNA if it's going to mutate.

So down voter, please explain why it's a bad comment.  Or are you just being a cunt?

He was talking about how the antibiotics wipe out all bacteria (including the good bacteria).  And since Ebola is a virus, antibiotics don't affect Ebola: so it's a fail for the doctor who prescribed it.

The part about evolving was talking about how bad bacteria that isn't killed off by antibiotics evolve and become MSRA or other crappy stuff that is immune to pills but still mess people up.

I don't believe he was saying that ebola would evolve due to antibiotics.

There could actually be decreased chance of survival if you are taking antibiotics early on.  The immune system is very complicated and the flora of the gut provide alot of resources for the body to fight off infections viral and bacterial. When the natural flora is gone its like the body loses a layer of defense against forign invaders.

In absence of diagnostic testing, an early case can easily be misdiagnosed as viral sore throat ( or strep throat, hence the antibiotics), or countless other, exceedingly more common, viral infections.

In light of these facts, the identity/nationality of the individual, his itinerary, and those he was staying with, as well as any other information should be released to the public.  Crowd source the contact tracing, post haste.

Might be time to rewatch History Channel's After Armageddon:

Published on May 12, 2013

"The worst-case scenario dramatization slash documentary After Armageddon aired January 5, 2010 on the History Channel as part of Armageddon Week. After Armageddon presented a picture of the breakdown of society after a worldwide pandemic flu.

Expert commentators proposed that pandemic illness would lead to power grid failures due to lack of manpower, the failure of the world wide web and eventually the end of civilized society. After Armageddon supposed that when workers become sick and/or die from disease, their jobs are unfilled which leads to services such as garbage pick up, electricity, water, food deliveries and other basic utilities ending."

M favorite part of the CDC info is the bit about the number of cases. They say a few thousand in Liberia, but then in parentheses they put a number closer to 25k after correcting for under reporting.

They already put the cases in Africa above 1.4million by January.

Just like earnings reports, the truth is in there but it is covered up by the adjusted number that tells people what they want to hear.

International air travel must be shut down now. Even domestic air travel. Sure it will cost the economy billions, but millions of people dying will cost more. Shut it all down and wait a month.

Ebola only stops when everyone that can be infected is dead. With the current inaction by our wonder government, the entire country is already infected. People just don't know it yet.

You can't shut down the airlines without likely crashing the whole system. Look what 911 did and that was a week. By shutting down the Airlines, you would basically be telling people to panic and it would likely spread to restaurants, movies, sports, malls, everything. The economic consequences would be massive and debilitating.

Better to treat Ebola as a lion/pride and the sheeple as antelope. Best to let a few get taken down than scare the whole herd over a cliff.

Well, truth, this strategy is brought to you by the same people who recommended hiding under a desk and clutching a pair of scissors to effectively confront an intrusive, armed mass murderer.

Scary.  Thanks for the link.  Living in South Texas I find this disturbing.  Mix it with our porous border and "I see... a bad moon a risin'...  I see... trouble on the way"...

Nothing to see here, move on.

So this dude was wandering around Dallas, sick and infectious with Ebola, going in and out of hospitals, riding in ambulances, and exposing how many people?

It's already over. Once the first case hits, the next 20 million are only a few weeks away. The USA is the perfect country for a pandemic because of our useless government and garbage medical system. People will go to a minute clinic with flu like symptoms, but it will be Ebola. Of course the nurse practitioner will just write it off as flu and send them home. She will have infected herself and the entire CVS will be contaminated with the disease.

People with Ebola will board subways, kids with Ebola will infect every other kid at school in turn infecting thier families. Just a single airplane with one active Ebola infection will spread the virus to a few hundred thousand people. Airplanes aren't cleaned, just have the garbage picked. If this Dallas guy was symptomatic on the plane, the potential cases has already broken past any point of containment. The government knows that.

Although the WHO and CDC all maintain the bullshit claim that people are not infectious until they show symptoms, I don't believe it. The period right before symptoms appear is the most dangerous. Who can make the claim that in the few hours or day before the symptoms appear the virus can not be transmitted? Sorry but when a cold virus enters a household, everyone is infected before the first person starts coughing.

First responders will not be wearing full biohazard gear when the first few hundred Ebola cases start showing up. Effectively bringing the virus into direct contact with health workers who will spread it like wildfire.

It will not be contained because it was not meant to be contained. This was engineered. The Strain, The Last Ship, The Walking Dead, Tiny House Nation, The Dome. Not to mention all of the apocalyptic documentaries recently  You think all the shows are just a coincidence. Tiny House Nation is propaganda to get people used to the idea that a FEMA shelter is not only enough space, but actually hip and trendsetting. We have been socially conditioned for a reason.

re: ADR. UP YOUR MEDS. really, pop an extra pill.

Downvoting me? Really? The ebola virus has been spreading for MONTHS and there are only thousands of cases. Don't you think the statement below is a little over the top? Just a little mind you.

Once the first case hits, the next 20 million are only a few weeks away.

I'm on a business trip and flying home to DFW on Friday.  I will keep an eye of any sickly looking hacking fucks either on the plane or in the terminals.  Are they supposed to be treated like zombies and shot on sight is there some other protocol I need to follow?  Does the CDC have a link for neutralizing the threat and culling of the herd protocols for us common folk.

This is moving pretty slowly for what I would expect a global contagion to look like.  So, there are one or two possible cases in the US and then mostly in Africa with the globalized economy shuttling tens of millions of people around the globe every day?  Why aren't we hearing about cases in France, Egypt, Chile, Indonesia, etc?

With the swine flu scare, the CDC came out afterwards admitting that it outright lied about the number of actual cases - most of them were just "flu-like" symptoms.

This is awfully convenient timing as we start seeing shortages of physical metals while Asian countries move towards a gold standard and fiat currencies implode.  This is just an excuse to terrify people round them up when the SHTF, for "your own good" of course.

So... IS sends 100 suicide commandos - who are infected but not infectious yet - to the US, and has them cough on as many people (and surfaces) as possible when they start to become infectious.. each commando could do this for up to four days, on an NYC subway for instance, and infect many 100's of people this way, which would mean 100 x 100's = 10.000+ but possibly 100.000+.

Far fetched? Maybe. In any case, for the CDC to say that "there will be no more infections" is more rediculous than the above scenario.

Given the nature of for profit hopitals does this mean the following:

Admission: $500/day (first 100 cases), $1000/day (rest)

TV: $100/day

Wi-fi: $100/day

Isolation: $5000/day

Isolation with treatment: N/A (If you need to ask you aren't elite)

Thank god for unrestrained supply and demand

Yet another example how the cockroach-in-chief & his cockroach supporters are destroying America by allowing people from Africa into the USA.

Suppose that the ebola epidemic was in a region/country called "Tea Party country/region", and the inhabitants were white - would cockroach-in-chief & his cockroach supporters allow these potentially ebola-infected white anti-socialists into the USA ?

Actually the biggest inncubators will come from the health and fitness crowd when they go to the gym and sweat on everything, everywhere, and touch everything and anything with their and everyone else's sweat and snot just to go to the health food store to touch all the fresh organic vegetables that intermintently spray water on them to keep them fresh just to taint the remaining veggies for everyone else to take home and eat.

Healthy Living.

This is being handled as a political event, something to be contained. Hair should be on fire and smart people should be in panic mode. Wise men should be hiding in caves but instead we are being told all is well.

This mistake of confusing a natural event with something like a politician getting caught in bathroom activities is going to prove fatal, literally fatal...you know...the kind of fatal that leaves you in a coffin not the kind that forces you to hire a better PR firm.

We are in deep trouble not because we can't handle a virus outbreak (we can!) but because our leaders refuse to address the issue forcefully because they are fearful it will reflect poorly on them.

....prepare to die....
