Ebola entered the country cause the infected patient probably thought he'd be better helped in Amerika instead of just dying off in Africa.

I'm not saying I did or I didn't, but if I was in China several years ago when SARS was running around, and felt flu like symptoms, I would have taken a shitload of advil to keep from setting off the temp sensors at the HK border and in the HK airport so I could get home and not be stuck in a Chinese or HK hospital. Just sayin...

I was thinking that the caricature was done in the context of recent White House security breach. Then the comparison is actually backwards. They're not trying to paint "Ebola" as a threat linked to government incompetence (such truths are self-evident), but comparing physical infiltration of the White House by a relatively harmless individual to a spread of a deadly disease. To them a concerned citizen climbing over the fence is scarier than a horde of plague-infected zombies.

I could be wrong, but that's the way I see it.

Bingo 90's Child! Perhaps this was or was not such a case, but I have posted before that people who fear they are infected in Africa and have money to afford international travel, will begin seeking safety in Europe and America. If one, like this guy, comes into direct Ebola contact, you have 4-21 days to reach the West, and unlimited free medical care, or die in an Ebola ridden hell hole tent! I think this guy may be number 1 of hundreds of Africans with money who will race to fly to America and EU, seeking what we will provide for free and in unlimited amounts. This is going to go downhill from here. Africans KNOW, they KNOW to flee to the West and EU! Hundreds may try it in the coming months. We of course will welcome travelers from Ebola nations, to prove we are not racists.

We have invested generations and untold treasure eradicating devistating diseases from our land, and all it takes is one Obozo to piss away that investment. Besides Ebola, TB, various respiratory viruses, and parasitic insects are coming into the country because it would be racist to stop the people bringing it in.

Forward (over the cliff)!

Good point. Many Americans forget the huge efforts of the 20th century to make America safe from infectious diseases. My grandparents lived in a deadly world on 1905, my parents lived in a much less deadly world in the 1950's, and I came along to a nearly perfect place to live as regards infectious disease. Allowing an open door policy to Africa could screw this all up!

Liberia to prosecute Ebola patient Thomas Eric Duncan for lying on health form

JONATHAN PAYE-LAYLEH and DAVID WARREN
The Associated Press
Published: 02 October 2014 03:06 PM
Updated: 02 October 2014 03:09 PM

http://www.dallasnews.com/ebola/headlines/20141002-liberia-to-prosecute-...

excerpt:

Liberia plans to prosecute the airline passenger who brought Ebola into the U.S., alleging that he lied on an airport questionnaire about not having any contact with an infected person, authorities said Thursday.

Thomas Eric Duncan filled out a series of questions about his health and activities before leaving on his journey to Dallas. On a Sept. 19 form obtained by The Associated Press, he answered no to all of them.

Among other questions, the form asked whether Duncan had cared for an Ebola patient or touched the body of anyone who had died in an area affected by Ebola.

Anyone ever been to Paris or Brussels has seen the large visible minority of West Africans. I guess nobody from West Africa with a family member in either Paris or Brussels ever thought about leaving Liberia or Sierra Leona to seek treatment in Europe?

If this was a full blown epidemic, sick people would have shown up months ago in Europe. That's not the case.

There is one guy who now decided to go to the US, probably knowing full well that he has the disease and hoping to get care. Can't blame the man for trying. It's his life he's fighting for. Did he have enough common sense and respect to try and shield himself from the family and friends in Dallas? We can only hope.

Walk, you also raised a significant - yet somewhat subtle point - ie., the "common sense" and "respect for others".

Patrick Sawyer - the original Patient Zero - supposedly dropped trou and started pissing and spitting on the medical team surrounding him when they told him he had ebola.

As a society, we are in EXTREMELY precarious waters if we cannot construct and maintain a robust defense against a potential scourge the likes of which most of us have never experienced.

Yes, this individual Duncan - just days earlier -  had both participated in an unsuccessful rescue  of and witnessed the horrific death of a young girl turned away from treatment in her most desperate need. In a much larger sense we cannot rely on the judgment of people in this situation to even be ABLE to act for the greater good.
