"Common People Do Not Carry This Much Currency" – How Police Justify Stealing American Citizens' Money

Tyler Durden's picture

Submitted by Mike Krieger via Liberty Blitzkrieg blog,

Police confiscating Americans’ hard earned cash, as well as a wide variety of other valuables, without an arrest or conviction is a disturbing and growing practice throughput these United States. Since cops get to keep the seized funds and use the money on pretty much anything they want, the practice is becoming endemic in certain parts of the nation. The theft is often referred to simply as civil forfeiture, or civil asset forfeiture. Incredibly, under civil forfeiture laws your property is incredibly “guilty until you prove it innocent.”

The extent of the problem came to my attention last summer after reading an excellent article by Sarah Stillman in the New Yorker. The article struck such a chord with me, I penned a post highlighting it and addressing the issue, titled: Why You Should Never, Ever Drive Through Tenaha, Texas. That article ended up being one of my most popular posts of 2013.

Fast forward a year, and many mainstream publications have also jumped on the topic. Most notably, the Washington Post published an excellent article last month titled, Stop and Seize, which I strongly suggest reading if you haven’t already.

Fortunately for us all, the issue has also caught the eye of the always hilarious, John Oliver of Last Week Tonight. The following clip from his show is brilliant. Not only is it hilarious, but it will hopefully educate a wider audience about this insidious practice so that it can be stopped once and for all.

As one officer admitted in an affidavit justifying his confiscation of an innocent driver’s cash:

“Common people do not carry this much U.S. currency.”

Enjoy:

Americans should be concerned because we are slowly being stripped of our freedoms. Not only is big-brother watching he is leaning on us big time. This is beginning to look like the society we have read about the totalitarian society of Oceania described in George Orwell's novel Nineteen Eighty-Four. In Orwell's novel, all citizens of Oceania are monitored by cameras and are fed fabricated news stories by the government. More on this subject in the article below.

The police have always been CORRUPT. Some practices simply receive more publicity (e.g., "civil forfeiture" - and the Internet has made them more visible now.

My father never paid a speeding or parking ticket in his life - and he "took care" all all those we received as teenagers.

He had a chain of supermarkets, paid off the cops, donated to the "right" political campaigns, gave out "gifts" at  Christmas, etc. It was simply a cost of doing business in the city.

“In one year alone, the officers were accused of spending $40,000 in forfeiture funds on prostitutes, marijuana and alcohol, according to prosecutors. Michael St. Andre was accused of using $75,000 from the funds to pay for trips and to buy his wife a tanning salon business.”

Just wait till the police have their pension plans cut in half or more. Talk about some pissed off people allowed to carry a gun. You know it's going to happen when city's no longer can pay for healthcare, god help me, more raises, when RE and when the stock market is going to crash soon, very soon. Where is the income (money) to pay for all these so called services to come from. Oh yeah, Biden was in Los Angles asking, pleading that the minimum wage should be raised to $13.25 a hour. For those that do not know. Minimum wage in Los Angles is $7.25 an hour now. Also I'm sure everyone knows that Wally World just dropped health care for people working less than I think 30 hours a week. I don't know where I'm going with this rant but I don't see a happy ending.

I believe that, in some States, if a teacher and a policeman both work 30 years and get the same pay, the policeman gets 3 times the retirement check.  A multiplier of 3 is applied to the policeman's time by the State retirement system.  So you need only reduce the multiplier to 1, the same as the teacher, State highway worker, and the other State employees.

Anybody ever hear of a gangster named Al Capone?

Al Capone had a Cadillac car and I'm sure he had plenty of money to boot.  He was the first US businessman to 'earn' 100 million dollars a year.

He opened soup kitchens in Chicago and helped old ladies who were having trouble making a go of it.

He was delivering 20 thousand gallons of beer each day in and around Chicago.

His brother was a revenuer for the fed gov and made his living in Nebraska.

His lawyer 'Easy' Eddie O'Hare had a son who became a war hero and an ace pilot.  Chicago's O'Hare Airport bears his name.

http://www.crimelibrary.com/gangsters_outlaws/mob_bosses/capone/index_1....

Those were the days when you could have money, but you can't anymore.

It is better to not carry a cent with you when you are traveling.

"If I could be you and you could be me for just one hour

If we could find a way to get inside each other's mind
If you could see you through my eyes instead of your ego
I believe you'd be surprised to see that you'd been blind

Walk a mile in my shoes, walk a mile in my shoes
Yeah, before you abuse, criticize and accuse
Walk a mile in my shoes

Well, your whole world you see around
You is just a reflection
And the law of common says
You're gonna reap just what you sow

So unless you've lived a life
Of total perfection
Mmm, you'd better be careful of every stone
That you should throw

Yet we spend the day throwin' stones at one another
'Cause I don't think or wear my hair same way you do
Well, I may be common people but I'm your brother
And when you strike out and try to hurt me it's a hurtin' you

Walk a mile in my shoes, walk a mile in my shoes
Yeah, before you abuse, criticize and accuse
Walk a mile in my shoes

There are people on reservations
And out in the ghettos
And brother, there, but for the grace of God
Go you and I

If I only had the wings of little angels
Don'tcha you know I'd fly
To the top of the mountain
And then I'd cry?

Walk a mile in my shoes, walk a mile in my shoes
Hey, before you abuse, criticize and accuse
Better walk a mile in my shoes

Walk a mile in my shoes, walk a mile in my shoes
Oh, before you abuse, criticize and accuse
Walk a mile in my shoes

Walk a mile in my shoes, walk a mile in my shoes
Hey, before you abuse, criticize and accuse
Walk a mile in my shoes

And from the Senior Senator from the North East Kingdom....  (Vermont).......

Leahy, for instance, was stopped at a different checkpoint in New York and told to get out his car, he recalled at a separate hearing last month. When he asked the Border Patrol agent under whose authority he was working, the agent pointed to his gun.

“That’s all the authority I need,” the agent said, according to Leahy.

I don’t think “turning cops into robbers” was the legislatures’ intent...or was it?  No conviction, often no arrest, no due process, guilty until proven innocent.  Scratch Amendment 5 “No person shall be…deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law…” off the list too.

Why has this not been successfully challenged in court?  Oh, wait, the black-robed pussies are in on the racket too, holding hands like fags with the executive & legislative branches under the one-party system of elephant & jackass sock puppets.

Taking your Cash......Is that to force you to use Credit?

I know the Canadian Government sent out a warning about carring cash in the USA.

I just did a 6 wek holiday in europe and Africa. Had $3500. EURO and $3000. . Kind of hard to find a bank in the Serengeti

If I transfered planes in Texas and they ruined my holiday I would lose it and create an International incident where I would never stop dedicating my life to offer Payback to all Americans. It's your back yard to clean up......Waiting.

By the way I avoid the USA ,  also Mexico. all except Hawaii.....better there.

It is getting more and more difficult to get CASH out of the U.S. It used to be that any amount under $10,000 was easy; now they question the Hell out of you.

Better to WIRE-TRANSFER it from an existing U.S. bank account to a foreign account.

Litigation against an inanimate object is a relic of the roman civil law as well as the admiralty.  If a Brick fell off a building and killed someone , they would have a trial and banish it from town.

Anyhow, it doesn't matter if the STATE "legalizes" theft.

Niether policy nor custom excuse a tort.

Torts are they remedy against State actors and people using State power as cover.

America is a rogue state already.

America is a police state.

American police is armed like military.

American police kills its citizens on the slightest verbal threat.

American police robs its citizens (as well as foreigners)

American police helps the banksters by forcing people carry credit cards instead of cash.

American police thus helps the semitist bansters who earn more than 35% interest on  credit card defaults.

American police has helped in the creation of a semitist state where everyone else is prone to state intimidation.

American police is making America as a prison for its citizens.

American police helps homosexuals to easily migrate to America from any place of earth.

America is an immoral state where drugs & homosexuality have been legalized and also making other countries too adapt the same.

Meanwhile, over here I have had zero problems with going to my bank, pulling out the equivalent of about $163,000 in cash, driving off to another bank of mine in a neighboring province and plopping it all in in cash.  ZERO problems, no raised eyebrows, no forms to fill out, no proving where this money was from, no cops caring, and the bank was nice enough to give me a bag to hold it all.  I was going there anyways, needed the cash moved and didn't feel like paying the cross-province transfer charge (hey, that's gas money!).

America, how much shit are you going to let yourselves take before you exercise the only remaining legitimate reason for your second ammendment?

Yes, I do mean a rampage. No, I don't mean at a college, military training base or elementary school.

In a single century, 4 American presidents were assassinated. 2 of these presidents were 2 of 3 of the most popular presidents in American history, one of which founded the GOP that now ~50% of Americans are loyal to. Its been 50 years since the last assassination and in those 50 years never have presidents provided more reason to assassinate them. Nixon, Clinton, Dubya, Obama. How the hell is it that Dubya survived both his terms? "Most of our imports come from other countries". Dubya almost got taken out by a pretzel. How is it that there isn't a single American citizen that is more deadly than that pretzel? Was the pretzel made in China? Trained in the ways of the mystical lead paint?

How much worse does it have to get for America? 3 of the 4 presidents that took over after a presidential assassination were very well behaved (Arthur, Teddy Roosevelt, Lyndon)... it seems as if a well aimed shot can be worth 8 years good luck, ... just saying, ...
