Second Dallas Patient Exhibiting Ebola Symptoms - Live Feed

Tyler Durden's picture

Following the sad death of Thomas Duncan this morning, CBS is now reporting that a possible second case of Ebola has been discovered in a suburb of Dallas:

  • *DALLAS AREA PATIENT SHOWS EBOLA SYMPTOMS: CBS

The patient claims to have had contact with Thomas Eric Duncan, referred to as Dallas ‘patient zero.’

Live Feed (via CBS Local)

CBS Dallas Live Stream

As CBS reports,

An afternoon news conference has been called in Frisco, a suburb of Dallas, to discuss a possible second case of Ebola.

The patient claims to have had contact with Thomas Eric Duncan, referred to as Dallas ‘patient zero.’

It is not clear how the patient had contact with Duncan or if the patient was one of the about 50 people being monitored by state and local health officials.

The call came in shortly after noon from Care Now, 301 Main Street, where the patient was “exhibiting signs and symptoms of Ebola.”

The patient is being transported to a nearby hospital by Frisco firefighter-paramedics.

First responders are also examining clinical staff and other patients.  It is unknown how many other people may have been exposed to the patient.

If you are already at risk of handling anything that might be Ebola-ed (I've verbed a noun! Yay!) you should already have bought your own gear.

If it's a matter of $, then I'll donate $50 towards the cause if you'll keep posting or maybe update a blog. Tell me the Paypal details and make sure Paypal won't ask this Canadian to create a damn account (it's a long story and long fight involving their getting access into my bank accounts that involved my dying first) and I'm in. I'm not being an ass about this, I just want you continuing to breathe on this planet.

Okay, I might be an ass about this, but I still want you to continue to update and breathe. So let me know the Paypal details, okay?

In the meanwhile I have to go explain to my mother that I haven't lost my mind and yes we need more cans of beans.

Well that was the heartiest laugh I have had in days! Thanks for that. Here's a virtual kiss on the forehead for being so sweet but what would make me more happy would be if you spend that $50 buying more canned beans. The window of opportunity is closing now and you eating is far more important than reading a blog. Mr Miffed made a Costco run today. How much longer will this be available? Tomorrow we slaughter our meat birds and will have about 100lbs of meat in the freezer.

Funny, I get so many offers from Canadians. One even asked me to marry him just to " get me out of my crazy country" ( Mr did not give his blessing on that one. In fact, I'm thankful my iPad didn't go into a wood chipper).

I promise I will do my best to keep breathing. You do so as well. The first responders to a medical crisis understand my fears. I think many are watching Dallas play out to guide themselves when it hits closer to home. None of us wants to bring this home to our friends and family.

Miffed;-)

Tx for bringing my smile back.

Love your input miffed :) I share your fears being a paramedic on the front lines. Our dispatch gives limited info to any job we go to, we sometimes have talk to multiple people, and walk through the entire house before we see our patient. Going into multiple houses a day, in and out of hospitals... I have never used so much alcohol hand wash or disinfected my medical equipment in the past 2 weeks.

Deciding at what point do I call it quits and decide how i am going to pay the bills....

"People are letting the Media fear monger you with Ebola.. anyone remember H1N1 (Bird/Swine Flu)"

You may be right about Ebola, only time will tell, but the fact remains that *if* a perfect virus came out of West Africa (or another tropical zone) then PC would guarantee that the correct medical response would not be adopted and millions would die unnecessarily.

"PC would guarantee that the correct medical response would not be adopted"

Yes, and if this plays out the way it very possibly may, history will view Obama as a patheric joke of a President (and of a man) who trifled with his responsibilities.

He weighed the risk of allowing ongoing flights to enter the US from a part of the world where an out of control epidemic of fatal disease was boiling over against the risk of violating political correctness, of appearing to "discriminate" against black and brown people.  He weighed the potential of dead Americans in the millions against PC ... and chose PC!

He used the half-baked pronouncements and opinions (yes, opinions!) of a PC CDC director for cover.  No REAL leader would ever do a thing like that.

Historians will judge you Mr. Obama.  I wouldn't even try to come up with the words that will used to describe you.

And people, if it turns out somehow that this virus is far more fatal to blacks than to other races as it spreads through the US...  you have a black man to thank for that!

The history books will come to view Obama as racist, for allowing Africans to enter the country without some reasonable screening/quarantine process.  But we already knew this after the Trayvon looking like his would be son incident.

their is a legend concerning the invention of chess for a king.  The king asked the inventor to name his price.  The inventor said that he would like one grain of wheat for the first square and double for the second square upto the 64th square.  By the time you get to the 64th square it represents more grain than has ever been grown in the history of this planet.

Wed, 10/08/2014 - 17:10 | 5305421 css1971
css1971's picture

Exponentials are predictable and with something like Ebola it's worth extrapolating out to see what's likely happening right now and "soon". The reported cases show you what happened in the past. With a gestation period of up to 21 days you have to extrapolate out 3 weeks to see what's going on now.

So how do you predict an exponential? Well they all have a doubling period. The time it takes for the numbers to double, and this is 70[1] / %percentage change per period. So 5% more per day means 70/5 => doubling every 14 days. In Africa the doubling period is/was ~24 days => 3%/day. So. 2 cases now... -> 4 in about 3 weeks. Look for the 4th case, they were infected 2-3 weeks ago and it means that today there are probably 4 more out there right now because it's bang on the exponential growth curve.

What's the population of Dallas? 2 / 1.2 million is insignificant so far.

[1] 70 isn't just an arbitrary number, it's ~ 100 * natural log of 2. This is all high school maths BTW.

Ebola destroys tissue. That's why sufferers bleed out. If your body doesn't get enough vitamin C, you get scurvy, which is your body failing to produce enough tissue to keep up with wear and tear, so your teeth and nails start falling out. Eventually, you die. Vitamin C is nessesary for tissue growth / replacement. As such, in the new ebola-era, lots of vitamin C sounds lkke a good idea.

fonz: Don't embarrass yourself with such simple reasoning.

"Raced back here just to basically kill himself and infect others..."

Wrong.

He raced over here in a last ditch attempt to save his life by getting into the best medical facilities in the world. He knew he was dead-meat in Liberia. Maybe, just maybe, if he could beat the 21-day incubation period, he would have a chance to get into an American hospital, and be saved.

He made some mistakes: 1) He should have immediately married the woman here - so that if he died, she would be able to sue the hospital for millions; if you can't make it rich alive, make a way to make your family rich by dying, 2) He should have raised unstoppable Hell to get admitted, 3) He should have called the press when they didn't admit him and get them to put him on the front page - he would have been in isolation before the ink dried.

He won't be the last to make this last-ditch attempt to save their life. If you know you got exposed - even if you might have gotten exposed but don't know for sure, get your fanny into Obama's disease ward (formerly known as the United States) as fast as you can. Travel to some other country to start your trip other than in West Africa - no use making it too obvious what the game plan is for you.

And now for the military - which is going to be infected and spread this throughout the country's military establishment: If I start to see senior flag officers being fragged, I will cheer on the people who took them out. They are disgusting pigs interested in nothing but how much they will make on some MIC Board. They are unfit to live.

We all know how this is going to turn out - this is the Black Swan we've all discussed. It will make the Black Plague look like a walk in the park.

My only question is how long will it be before an enraged crowd surrounds the Murder-in-Chief's limo, and drags him out into the street to kill him with their bare hands?

-30-

Ha Ha Ha. Watching rigged NFL games is as being in the matrix as one can possibly even get.

If you actually "see the world for what it is" you would find the NFL as enjoyable as watching paint dry.

Everyone is inventing the processes on the fly as they happen. There is no process. We need Nigerian/Liberian doctors over here now, FUCK THE CDC.

I am NOT kidding. They have on the ground reality in their brains and cells. Give them this equipment and not only would they save our sorry asses, but they could probably save their own countries too.

Arrogance, ignorance, bureaucratic red tape, short sighted finances, politics, and political correctness (a different problem) are going to kill us.
