America's First Ebola Patient, Thomas Eric Duncan, Has Died

Tyler Durden's picture

The first US Ebola patient, Thomas Eric Duncan, who was treated in Texas, has just died:

  • TEXAS HEALTH REPORTS DEATH OF EBOLA PATIENT THOMAS ERIC DUNCAN

And while we await the inevitable CDC press conference to follow, the stock of CMRX, whose medicine was being used to treat him, is plunging.

As Bloomberg reports,

Thomas Eric Duncan, the first person diagnosed with Ebola in the U.S., died from the virus while in isolation at a Dallas hospital.

Duncan was diagnosed with the disease on Sept. 30 after contracting it in his native Liberia, where Ebola has infected about 7,500 people, killing half. He had come to the country to marry his girlfriend, Louise Troh, who is now being quarantined and has not yet shown symptoms of the disease.

"It is with profound sadness and heartfelt disappointment that we must inform you of the death of Thomas Eric Duncan this morning at 7:51 am,” Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital said in a statement today.

Some more from Bloomberg:

Duncan was in serious condition until Saturday, when his kidneys failed and he was put on dialysis. That afternoon he received the experimental drug brincidofovor, made by Durham, North Carolina-based Chimerix Inc (CMRX), according to statements from the hospital, which has declined to say if the patient received any other experimental treatment.

Duncan was also receiving oxygen on a ventilator and medication to stave off infection, according to the hospital.

A nephew, Josephus Weeks, said earlier today that Duncan did not receive any serum from Ebola survivors, a treatment given other survivors. Kent Brantly, a U.S. doctor who recovered after being infected, has donated serum to at least two other patients.

Asked in a text-message interview if the family thinks blood serum derived from disease survivors should have been used, Weeks said, “We begged and pleaded several times. They said it’s too late in his treatment. They didn’t try any other options but saline, oxygen and water.”

So the lawsuits are coming.

In any event, one can only hope he is the last Ebola casualty on US soil. Unfortunately, when the best plan the "smartest and brightest" in the room can come up with is to take the temperature of West Africa travelers, he won't be.

Uh, no.  If I caught ebola, I'd do the sensible thing and stay at home and die.  But then, I believe in this archaic concept called "personal responsibility".  It would be my own fault for catching ebola because I wasn't careful enough to avoid contaminated people and objects, so I would not get "revenge" on my fate by inflicting the same miserable fate on others.

He didn't know for sure he had ebola until he was checked a second time at an American hospital. He only made the wrong choice if he deliberately infected other people and so far we don't know if he infected anybody. Remember according to the CDC ebola is not air-borne.

I did not mark you down but you are going to get beat up on this one. I defended him for a while too. He LIED on his form by checking off that he had NOT contacted anyone with Ebola. He carried a preganant woman with Ebola to her families house after he rode in the cab with her and she was rejected at three hospitals. It's the lie that points to intent.

F/U He knowingly came in close contact with infected individuals (unprotected) knowing full well the consequences. He then lied about to gain entry to the U.S.

The outcome of Duncan being here is not yet known. It would have happened sooner or later anyway. Maybe the response to his situation will render protocols that actually save hundreds or thousands of lives. You generally have pretty well thought-out comments, Yen. Don't let fear cloud the list of possible outcomes, many of which are likely to be positive exactly because of what Duncan did. The guy who survives the firefight is usually the one who doesn't lose his cool.

Duncan isn't the one who let this thing get out of control. Watching politicians and oil company execs wringing their hands doesn't exactly inspire confidence. But the docs at CDC and WHO are the best ammo we have for this. Put some energy into that instead.

Another bullshit vaccine for example  like flu vaccine. In the past,  had vaccines that were effective like Sabin-Salk for Polio, Hepatitis B, DPT.  Granted, medical advances are built on trial and error with some necessary failures, but today, I suspect it is driven by secret government agenda, insider deals for profit through government subsidies, with the effectiveness an afterthought.

Apparently, "the greatest health care system in world history," can not save you! What you say Mr. Obama and Drs. Thomas Frieden and Antony Fauci. "Nothing to worry about?" Tougher screening. No question about it -- those TSA agents are qualified to screen for Ebola! This Administration is just not incompetent, but criminal.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), it should be noted, was originally an agency within the U.S. Public Health Service (PHS). The USPHS was founded 1798. In 1878, the PHS mission was expanded to take on control of infectious diseases, including quarantine, which previously had been a state function. The Public Health Service Act of 1944 clearly established the federal government's quarantine authority for the first time. The act gave the U.S. Public Health Service (PHS) responsibility for preventing the introduction, transmission, and spread of communicable diseases from foreign countries into the United States. Quarantine was then transferred to the CDC in 1967.

I say all this because it should be perfectly clear to the leaders of our Nation, that travel restrictions and quarantine are permissible by law, and primary tools to protect the American people.

CDC Director, Dr. Tom Frieden, has proffered that infected patients pose little risk to others. Then why have over one hundred health workers in Africa, in biohazard suits been infected? He is wrong. The CDC Director proclaims that a U.S. citizen has a “right” to return to the United States, to a hospital of his/her choosing with the world’s deadliest communicable disease – Ebola. No Government quarantine required. He is wrong again. Dr. Frieden has lectured the American public that he ‘certainly hopes people’s fear doesn’t trump their compassion.’ When did Dr. Frieden stop being an infectious disease specialist and become a medical ethicist?

The facts are that the American people are scared and have right to be. The facts are the American people do not believe the Federal government is looking out for their welfare. The facts are this is not politics. The facts are this is life and death.

If this doesn't bring America to its senses (remove Obama), than perhaps it is time that the surplus population is removed.

The fact that it's only been 14 days since he became ill is what we should be worried about. All the most reputable scientists that have studied Ebola sgree that this strain is very different and can mutate. In some cases the virus has infected people up to 25days after contact. I expect we will see many more cases in the US that were directly linked to Duncan. I'm sure the CDC also knows this even though they hoodwink everyone into believing everything will be just fine... The next 30 days will be a real eye opener for the world and by Christmas total paranoia and chaos will be our new normal

As far as I know, Ebola is not the site or posters faults; reporting is no fault too. As for the AR15s, those will be helpful in creating an 8th hole in your head from about 100 yards out should it go full retard. I'd be looking into protective measures.

LOL!

Who is going to feed all those fly covered, pot-bellied little kids of yours when that fat-ass Santa Claus WHITE guy in the late night infomercials turns into Kool Aid man and croaks?

OHHHHHH YEAAAAAHHHHH

Hell, you're probably not even from a shithole country filled with miserable brown people, are you?  Most likely your some 125 lb patchouli smelling, knit rasta beret wearing little metrosexual persuing your 3rd degree in womyns and gender studies.  Because that unshorn fat hippy pussy is THE BEST you're gonna see, young man. Trust me... I know.

We've had the toe-tag on us before.  It's been that close, but we're still here and still the best option going, despite having to carry all you leeches along, too.  Just keep pushing, and mix that up with some good old fashion societal breakdown due to The new and Improved Red Death and you'll get to see what a real White Riot looks like.

Why, YOU feed 'em, shithead...right out of your little baptist missionary schooboy-fucking church. That's how I know that you know that "unshorn fat hippy pussy is THE BEST you're gonna see, young man. Trust me... I know."

As for, "a shithole country filled with miserable brown people," you just keep showing your moonbeam-white ass. All the brown people in my little country are quite happy, thanks. What's more, they are not in the least bit threatened by big redneck white motherfuckers like you. We eat 'em for dinner once a week, whenever they step off the plane to come foul our beaches with their self-righteous holier-than-thou sunscreen. That's right after we take all their money, and impregnate their daughters with some REAL genes.

As for whitey being the best thing going? Well, ain't you just full of yourself (shit, that is). It doesn't look to me like whitey has much of a grip on anything except greed, poison and his best friend's wife.

So here's what you do, white boy: Bend over. Put your head as far between your legs as you can. Kiss your stupid ass goodbye. Right along with the rest of us, who were stupid enough to let you in the door in the first place. Lying scum. You don't deserve the air you breathe.

As a whitey myself Spumoni, I have to agree with you. Most of the problems in the world can be traced back to the belief systems and social structures of white people. Public eneies number 1 and 2 are Christianity and Judaism, followed closely by the brown people religion of Islam. So the brown people don't get a free pass either.

WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. -- A patient at a Westchester hospital is being monitored for possible Ebola, according to multiple reports Wednesday.

Appearing on WGDJ TALK 1300 Radio in Albany Wednesday morning, Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino said he had been informed about the patient.

News 12 Westchester reported a patient with a high fever who had recent contact with someone from Liberia is being treated at an unidentified Westchester hospital and there has not yet been a test for Ebola.

Thomas Eric Duncan, the first person in the United States treated for Ebola, died Wednesday morning.Duncan traveled to the U.S. from Liberia and had been in critical condition since being diagnosed in mid-September.

Hikikomori (????? or ????? Hikikomori?, literally "pulling inward, being confined", i.e., "acute social withdrawal") is a Japanese term to refer to the phenomenon of reclusive adolescents or adults who withdraw from social life, often seeking extreme degrees of isolation and confinement. The term hikikomori refers to both the sociological phenomenon in general as well as to people belonging to this societal group. Hikikomori have been described as recluses, loners, or "modern-day hermits."[1]

I know I might seem silly  with all this pandemic stuff going on but does anyone get the idea that there are other things going on that we are not noticing.  I'm saying that the Ebola news is pretty much taking over the media; even here at Zero Hedge the Ebola stories get the most posts.  That's what got me to thinking.

Anyone ever hear of something called a smokescreen?

A ELE such as an disease epidemic, one that is very hard to cure, is very infectious and involves a horrible, gory death would certainly grab peoples attention. And if it doesn't the MSM would make sure that it did.  So once again, people are wringing their hands and worrying about what's going to happen and of course looking to the gov't to take care of the matter.  And the gov't has not disappointed what with the CDC taking the lead and all.

I am trying to see what else is happening right now, that would have a profound impact on my life in the future.  But nothing really rings any alarms right now.  But I am becoming more convinced that there is something very serious happening right now and is NOT a good thing for me.  I sense that TPTB are using this to keep us too scared to see whats really happening.

"I am trying to see what else is happening right now, that would have a profound impact on my life in the future."

Clueless, are you serious? While I agree with your premise that this whole Ebola scare could be a smoke screen, you honestly don't see what's going on that could have a future impact on your life? Where to even start.

   1. The country is broke (and broken). $20 trill debt. $100's of trillions in future debts.

   2. Perpetual war (we have been at war for over 3 decades).

   3. Virtually infinite expansion of money supply (this can only end in one way).

   4. Uneducated (or rather mis-educated) public.

   5. Domestic terror operations passively (or actively) supported by the government (i.e. 9/11).

I could go on, but I'm getting too depressed. Time for a couple of shots of Jack.

None of these so-called Ebola cures work. But, it doesn't stop big pharma from using these poor bastards as human guinea pigs. This isn't any more contagious than a cold or flu (actually less so), and can be stopped with proper hygene and precautions. The best way to fight it is with strong immune system and strong doses of supplements. But of course, where's the profit in that?

Question is, after showing signs of the disease (meaning the person KNOWS they have the twinges and aches of first beginning), how long does it normally take to kill them? We don't really know since Duncan had the best of care and was, probably, effectively dead several days ago but with western dialysis (ect) they "kept" him alive long after he should have died.

What I hate most about today's society is that we are told we have no rights:

1. Person has Aids and is your dentist, you don't have the right to know. Shouldn't that be YOUR choice?

2. Peopl have endless communicable diseases like leprosy and tuberculosis, and they are let to run around among us. Where are your rights?

3. And ebola...let's see, could we just let all of Liberia in to the US, and be done with it. Any voice raised about our own self-prevservation will be "prejudice" right?
