Markets In Turmoil Update

Tyler Durden's picture

BTFD'ers are absent as markets everywhere are in turmoil. Commodities are sliding with WTI plunging (almost a bear market from June highs) and copper crumbling. The USD is slightly lower (3rd day in a row). Treasury yields are slightly lower. But it is stocks that are turmoiling most as the Dow nears unchanged year-to-date. After the dramatic ramp off the lows last week, stocks have entirely roundtripped and then some to fresh cycle lows, led by Trannies and Small caps. VIX is back over 18. In Europe, stocks tanked once again with DAX closing below 9,000 for the first time this year.

Stocks have roundtripped and worse from last Thursday's lows...

Commodities are sliding this morning with WTI plunging...

Brent-WTI hovering at 3.50 as they both plunge...

JCP and SHLD are crashing...

and Europe is even worse...

Public Service Announcement:  'When the Fed's subsidies are removed, prices will adjust, they will adjust immediately, and they will adjust on NO VOLUME'.   Stanley Druckemiller - September 2013, broadcasting precisely how malignant the Fed's system is, as it enlists the gamers to enrich themselves on the way up, then pummel the sheep on the way down.  Totally an inside game.

Make sure to pass this along to all of the folks who have rather elected to stuff their heads in the sand and point at the Russell ... how's the Russell now, Janet?

If we do indeed get our Black Swan / Ebola crash, conveniently concocted to cull the population, get the sheep in line, and avert any blame from its true owner, Mrs. Debtfire, then make sure to pass this along folks ... and the Fed will finally be ended.

Serious question:  How much does it cost the Fed to move the S&P up 20 points by buying those ES mini futures?  Is it just like $100 million or something?

does it matter how much it costs?  can it even be determined?  Is there any limit to the funds that the central banks can secretly conjur up to buy stocks off the books, through proxies?

I suppose not, but if the price is low, it just seems like even more of a kick in the balls.

If they are going to manipulate various markets to force us into doing what they want, its worth wondering about the relative costs of say, driving gold down or the S&P up or widing some bond spread.

Though shorts found rewards, particularly  my beloved Russell, wanted to remind fellow traders that on many FOMC days, pre-positioning algos seem to trace out an arc of possibility covering potential best/worst case scenarios.  While it’s obvious global concerns are part of today’s mix, I wouldn’t be surprised to see a portion of losses clawed back, starting now or their favorite 12:30 time, to reach a happy medium, likely still negative, before the text-parsers get to work at 1:59.  Sure, could be “different this time”, but given the treacherous nature of trading FOMC days, perhaps discretion is the better part of valor . . .  good luck to one and all . . .

Yikes! Glad I followed my own advice.

The last time I saw "VIX" (or Vicks) slammed this suddenly to the ground was when my grandmother tried to put VapoRub on my 4-year old brother's chest to cure a cough (persons over a certain age will know what I'm talking about).

(By the way, ever notice how, after algos trace out their pre-FOMC levels, both high and low stops are usually taken out, rather rudely, in the first 20 min. after 2:00?  Can't be rigged, must be another, perhaps psychological, explanation for this peculiar phenomenon.)

BTFD only works if the market goes back up.

Dip Buyers must have confidence that the criminals at the Fed can keep the market recovering from declines, indefinitely.

Still, BTFD, is just a profane, "edgy" new name for largely unwise market timing

Then again, in a coupla' years, several trillion might just buy a loaf of bread...Assuming there are still wheat farmers...and bakers...and stores...
