Ebola Pandemic Hits Germany, Turkey, And Australia As Infected Spanish Nurse Went Un-Quarantined For A Week

Tyler Durden's picture

Despite the still confident exclamations from officials that the Ebola pandemic is 'contained', more and more nations are admitting to Ebola-symptomatic cases or bringing infected patients back from Africa for treatment. Australia has its first potential case of the deadly disease, as Bloomberg reports a nurse who returned from volunteering in Africa has developed Ebola-like symptoms. Despite claims that Nigeria's outbreak is over, a Turkish worker there has been hospitalized in Istanbul after signs of high fever and diarrhea. Health officials from Germany confirm a 3rd Ebola patient has arrived in the country - having contracted the disease in Liberia. And finally, just as in the sad case of Thomas Duncan in Dallas, The Guardian reports the infected Spanish nurse went untreated and unquarantined for a week despite reporting symptoms at least three times to hospital officials. It seems the world is ill-prepared for this...

Bloomberg reports, a nurse who treated Ebola patients with the Red Cross in Sierra Leone was hospitalized in Australia after developing a low-grade fever, health officials said. She is being tested for the deadly virus.

The 57-year-old volunteer recently returned to Cairns, in the northeastern state of Queensland, where she has been isolating herself and checking her temperature twice daily, Jeannette Young, the state’s chief health officer, said in an e-mailed statement. Today, she reported a temperature of 37.6 degrees Celsius (99.7 degrees Fahrenheit). Results of tests for Ebola and other possible infections are expected early tomorrow.

The nurse hospitalized in Cairns was identified as Sue-Ellen Kovack by the Australian newspaper. Kovack returned home two days ago, the newspaper reported.

A Turkish worker employed in Nigeria was rushed to an Istanbul hospital Oct. 8 on suspicion of Ebola, according to Hurriyet Daily, after showing signs of a high fever and diarrhea.

The 46-year-old man, whose identity has not been disclosed, returned to Turkey 10 days ago from Africa to see his family in the western province of Sakarya during the Feast of the Sacrifice holiday.

The incident is the second case of a suspected Ebola patient in Turkey, after a Nigerian woman who transited through Istanbul’s Atatürk Airport while traveling from Lagos to Barcelona was rushed to hospital in mid-August.

Health officials from the German state of Saxony confirmed on Thursday that an Ebola patient had arrived in the country, according to DW,

The man, who originates from Sudan, contracted the virus in Liberia, they said, adding that he had been transported from the airport to the St. Georg Clinic in the city of Leipzig, which is located roughly 200 kilometers (125 miles) southeast of Berlin.

St. Georg's Clinic is one of seven health facilities in Germany with the capability to treating highly infectious patients in isolation.

Two other Ebola patients have also been flown to the Central European country in recent weeks. A World Health Organization (WHO) employee had fallen ill with the hemorrhagic fever in Sierre Leone was brought to Hamburg, where doctors were able to stabilize him and eventually release him last week.

And finally, with regard the infected Spanish nurse in Madrid (as The Guardian explains), had told health authorities at least three times that she had a fever before she was placed in quarantine.

Her first contact with health authorities was on 30 September when she complained of a slight fever and fatigue. Romero Ramos called a specialised service dedicated to occupational risk at the Carlos III hospital where she worked and had treated an Ebola patient, said Antonio Alemany from the regional government of Madrid. But as the nurse’s fever had not reached 38.6C, she was advised to visit her local clinic where she was reportedly prescribed paracetamol.

Days later, according to El País newspaper, Romero Ramos called the hospital again to complain about her fever. No action was taken.

On Monday, she called the Carlos III hospital again, this time saying she felt terrible. Rather than transport her to the hospital that had treated the two missionaries who had been repatriated with Ebola, Romero Ramos was instructed to call emergency services and head to the hospital closest to her home. She was transported to the Alcorcón hospital by paramedics who were not wearing protective gear, El País reported.

On arrival at the hospital, Romero Ramos warned staff that she feared she had contracted Ebola. Despite the warning, she remained in a bed in the emergency room while she waited for her test results. She was separated from other patients only by curtains, hospital staff said on Tuesday.

Good news, but put it in perspective. 1 in 6 dead is still high.

And at least some of our guys got the last of the treatment medicine still available and had the best intensive care available. But the medicine is now all gone and availability for the same level of intensive care for everybody is just not there.

Patients require dialysis, fluid and blood replacement, support for vital organs, etc., and all of it provided under strict isolation protocols -- for weeks? There's not enough of all of that to go around.

Still, the scariest part for me is that medical people are getting EBOLA even though they are protecting themselves and observing protocols. What chance will millions of lay people have?

CDC is treating this like AIDS and it's not.

I wonder why only an experimental drug was used on the Dallas guy while actual blood, with it's usually very effective antibodies, from Dr. Bentley has been harvested for the NBC TV cameraman...looks like the medical system/government? is picking and choosing.  Bentley could have easily donated to Duncan too.  Anybody know if there could've been a crossmatch?  Where's that info?  No doubt the lawyers will ferret that out.

Can't be a cross-match problem; the part of the blood with the antibodies is easily separated from the matchy-no-matchy part; to keep it non- technical.

Ebola Strikes America: Bad Immigation/Refugee Policies To Blame
By Patrick Cleburne October 1, 2014

At this point it seems inevitable that America is going to have an Ebola experience on some scale. The Democrat-MSM complex is already moving to anathematize any discussion of the policy implications [Conservative Media Rush To Politicize First Case Of Ebola In U.S. by Alexandrea Boghun, MediaMatters, October 1, 2014] while the Conservatism Inc. outlets as far as I can see and notwithstanding the above are studiously confining themselves to medical and news-timing details.

So VDARE.com gets to state the key fact: America is at risk because of foolish and irresponsible immigration and refugee policies. If these were not so faulty, this risk would not be significant. I commend for following this issue the marvelously industrious Refugee Resettlement Watch site.

Dallas Ebola Patient Was Another Visa Mistake

The president and his immigration agencies have the authority and the responsibility to deny admission to any alien that has (or cannot establish to the government's satisfaction that he or she doesn't have) a communicable disease of public health significance, such as ebola. In the midst of this severe outbreak, the government should be setting up more robust screening protocols. Reportedly, travelers to the United States are simply being questioned about their contact with infected people and are checked for a fever. In contrast, three African countries (Namibia, Kenya, and Zambia) have banned travelers from the countries that are experiencing the outbreak (Liberia, Sierra Leone, and Guinea).

In July, a member of Congress sent a letter to Secretary of State John Kerry and Secretary of Homeland Security Jeh Johnson suggesting that we bar entry to any foreign travelers who have visited the three Ebola-stricken countries within 90 days of seeking entry to the United States.

But, as with the threat from terrorism and from foreign criminal cartels, the Obama administration seems reluctant to use immigration controls even to protect the homeland.

The geniuses at Gov-Co will now screen passengers coming through New York's JFK, Newark, Washington's Dulles, Chicago's O'Hare and Atlanta.

The only actual documented cases have come through Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport.  But that’s not one of the airports on the list.  WTFF?

It's a show that's being put on. Cases will continue to come in through the five airports that have been selected. And certainly through all the other international airports.

With an up-to-3-week incubation period, screening like this won't get the job done (the job being limiting the number of cases we have to deal with).

cow, I heard Duncan first came into New York (via Brussels) before getting on another flight to Dallas.  So there's only 5 airports in the US (I heard) that come in from Africa.

The stupid part is that the guy came in from Brussels, which we still aren't checking.  All countries should just not accept any planes from West Africa right now.

Sure one could build a mathematical model on it's spread.

One model would be of Africa, another of the US.

Since people fly and touch infected surfaces all the time at airports, serve food and handle money it will get quite interesting to watch.

Oh, yeah it won't spread in the US like Africa because we are exceptional.

Admittedly, I thought this was another hoax from Obama. Apparently, I was wrong and this disease is being deliberately allowed to spread. Sometimes, I find it hard to tell the difference between psychological warfare and the real thing.

However, with that said, isn't it a criminal offense to allow a disease to spread without attempting to curtail it in any meaningful way? And, incompetence isn't an excuse. That's why the term, involuntary manslaughter, exists.

I'm not sure why U.S. officials who didn't restrict travel from the affected African countries haven't been arrested and charged with involuntary manslaughter.

It is worth mentioning at this point that every flight going into Australia is sprayed with a aerosol upon arrival.  Well at least the oned from Asia anyway.  THis aerosol spay is srayed over the heads of the 'whole fucking plane" and the sheep are told it is due to "Australian Customs regulations".

I happened to to ask the rather hot looking air hostess if I could have a look at the can of aerosol spray that she had finished dousing us all in and lo and behold ......it had no declaration of contents and it was made by Devil Inc. itself....... The Carlisle Group.

First 1] WTF are they spraying this and

Actually, they have sprayed their planes for decades because they're an isolated continent and don't want non-native species of bugs and such to sneak into the country via the baggage.

Don't give the governments of the world to much credit they spent weeks and a fortune but could not even find a large missing Malaysian jet. This virus has worked overtime to pick up "critical mass." I'm referring to the point where enough people are infected with the virus that it can sustain a chain reaction and expand out of control.

The bad news is Ebola may have already reached critical mass and may now be impossible to contain. The economic and humanitarian implications of this are massive and it could change everything. More on why we should be very concerned in the article below.

I have to disagree: data suggests that the "critical mass" you talk about was present from the start. I'd suggest the causes are no containment + up to 21 days before symptoms. The transmission rate doesn't look "so critic" around 1.95:1 each two weeks (compared to other viruses) but time and exponential function do the rest.

To be more specific about "critical mass", have a look at the chart of the cases&deaths with a log scale. Trend is clearly linear (on the LOG SCALE) with illustrates that the exponential function is very much valid until last collected data. If there's a threshold broken (up or down) I'll let you know.

Except for one picture of that poor bastard sitting in a pool of piss, shit and blood on the curb I have not come across one picture of the blood. I believe they finally have developed their dreaded FLU. H- whatever. All these folks have severe flu symptoms and then organ shutdown. No blood. If that is the case, we are fucked. Because it is airborne and it will shut down your organs. Notice, they treat for dehydration and then as kidneys shut down you die. No fucking bleeding eyes, ears, mouth or ass. Sever flu like symptoms and then the under taker combs your hair and wipes your ass for the last time.

The problem in Ferguson has more to do with low moral character and opportunistic agitators than with any "Bell Curve".  Like Urban_Redneck helpfully pointed out, there is a distribution of IQ's across populations.  Additionally, I blame the media complex for the ongoing unrest in Ferguson.  It's really pathetic.

Now you see the results of Joseph Stalin's invention of "political correctness" carried out by American Communists.

There is no debate on Obola's mentoring by his likely Father, Frank Marshall Davis, one of the top Communists in the USA in his era. The issue is settled.

One must understand Communism has been a useful tool by the Zionists. It allows control, it allows conflict. Both of which Zionism profits from.

The outbreak of Obola may have been natural. The result, abetted by decades of a concious or unconcious communist world view may condemn millions to  Death.

This is the Legacy of all Communist Movements.

The Individual Human has no Value.

America elected a man who was schooled in Communism, a man who has never proved his Legality, a man who only does the bidding of Others.

Remove him or die.

I have experimented with and studied alternative medicines & medical theories for 15 years.  What I discovered is that most alternative treatmenst are primarily composed of snake oil or have too little an effect to be noticeable.  There are however, more then a few treatments that border on miraculous, that wreak havok on virus, bad bacterias, parasites, cancers etc.

Bob Beck's protocol is one of them, it consists of ozonated water, magnetic pulsers and low voltage devices.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xMlXd9hLpcY  Also, DILUTED food grade peroxide works for many things for some of the same reasons.  Thryoid Nascent Iodine is also a good one for people who are not allergic to shellfish etc.

In addition, there are numerous vitamins and minerals that nearly the entire population is deficient in that can cripple the immune system: Vitamin D3, Magnesium (without added calcium), useful iodine (not the crap they put in salt) and many others.  http://www.jigsawhealth.com/resources/magnesium-calcium-potassium-vitamin-d-kerri-knox

Also, cold low level infrared laser therapy for muscle, sketetal, skin problems and wound healing is f*cking phenomenal.  They are illegal to purchase for human use in the US and can only be purchased for equine use or out of Europe.  http://vetrolaser.com/

Do your research first, the information wont come easily as it tends to disappear out of dated medical journals.  Of course, I am not a doctor and none of these products are recommeded for the treatment of any condition or disease.  Also the claimed benefits of vitamins and minerals has not been evaluated by the FDA.  Be sure to ask your doctor/ pharma pusher first and dont do anything illegal.

If you have ever taken a Chinese subway ride, which I've done numerous times in both Beijing and Shenzhen, you know how horrible the average citizen is when it comes to covering their chopstick hole when coughing and sneezing. Some fuckers literally put their heads back 45 degrees to sneeze into space with full effect. The State even ran "public service" spots on the radio and TV promoting covering their mouths.

Since their are many Chinese companies working on projects in Africa, how long before someone lands in Guangdong, jumps on packed subway during rush hour and infects a few thousand?

I'm totally amazed it hasn't happened yet. Why no outbreaks yet in China?

The method of isolating and purifying the antibody cocktail is not yet amenable to mass production. They need to sort out a new production method (one that doesn't take ages and produces more than a few doses). That, unfortunately, will likely take longer than we've "got."

There was a NOVA show last night on Ebola, and maybe the most surprising thing was a team of westerners already working in Africa to gather and analyze antibodies from survivors.

Well thank goodness someone is doing the obvious!

But it's also obvious they should be making all the blood-type agnostic (I assume) gamma globulin from as many survivors as they can find.  Well, maybe they are, reporting remains very spotty on all of this.  It's a low-tech "antibody cocktail", good solid 1950s technology.

Regrettably, you can get transfusion reactions from group 0 or pooled plasma from "isoagglutinins," antibodies directed toward the A and B blood types. Not always, and they're not always serious. But pooled plasma does have the potential to make things worse instead of better. The problem is bigger when multiple transfusions are required.

* Since Sept 30th, Liberia has only recorded nine new 'confirmed' cases.  This continues a drastic reduction in numbers reported under the confirmed category that began three weeks ago.  There is widespread agreement that this category is under-reported due to lab issues.  The missing cases have not been estimated; these figures will be revised if/when lab issues are resolved and or data is released.  Further, Liberia has instituted new restrictions on journalists reporting on Ebola at the same time several new US labs have come online; reliability of this data series may continue to decline.

Now that the UNHRC has declared the Ebola virus a person, and since any attempt to deny Ebola entrance into the US is racist, the Obama administration has announced a marching bands contest on our southern border to heartily welcome the Ebola virus into the country. "We couldn't do less", White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest exlaimed. "Diversity requires that we warmly embrance all persons, and necessarily means that we share our bodily fluids with them'". When asked how a band could win the competition, Earnest answered, "Whichever band all of whose members die first."

In a related development, the US Border Patrol has requested emergency funding for our northern border, due to the skyrocketing increase in the number of US cititzens with musical instruments exiting the US.

Answer me this:  If this thing becomes airborn like the flu, will we see it each year like the flu season.  I want to be the first to officially welcome you to our first annual ebola season.  Maybe not this year, maybe not next year, but if you've ever had the flu, you have to expect to meet Mr. Ebola.

seek's picture

"will we see it each year like the flu season" Not unless it mutates into something much less lethal, or becomes a lot more contagious.

The key to diseases spreading is a thing called the basic reproduction number, or R0. Our friendly makes-your-eyes-bleed virus has an R0 that barely lets it grow (though the current outbreak suggests it's increased, letting it grow faster), and it kills people before it can spread very far, holding down its R0. If it didn't kill people as fast, R0 could go up, and if it became truly airborne (not aerosolized, but actually airborne, like measles) R0 would skyrocket as well. With intervention or the death of a population, once R0 goes under 1 it dies out and no more infection, e.g. it goes away because everyonethat could be a carrier is dead.

Flu sticks around because it mutates so populations stay suceptible to infection, and doesn't kill off enough people in a population to affect its life cycle.
