German Journalist Blows Whistle On How The CIA Controls The Media

Tyler Durden's picture

Submitted by Michael Krieger via Liberty Blitzkrieg blog,

“I was bribed by billionaires, I was bribed by the Americans to report…not exactly the truth.”

- Udo Ulfkotte, a former editor of one of Germany’s main daily publications, Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung

Some readers will see this and immediately dismiss it as Russian propaganda since the interview appeared on RT. This would be a serious mistake.

Whether you want to admit it or not, CIA control of the media in the U.S. and abroad is not conspiracy theory, it is conspiracy fact.

Carl Bernstein, who is best known for his reporting on Watergate, penned a 25,000 word article in Rolling Stone after spending six months looking at the relationship of the CIA and the press during the Cold War years. Below is an excerpt, but you can read the entire thing here.

In 1953, Joseph Alsop, then one of America’s leading syndicated columnists, went to the Philippines to cover an election. He did not go because he was asked to do so by his syndicate. He did not go because he was asked to do so by the newspapers that printed his column. He went at the request of the CIA.

Alsop is one of more than 400 American journalists who in the past twenty?five years have secretly carried out assignments for the Central Intelligence Agency, according to documents on file at CIA headquarters. Some of these journalists’ relationships with the Agency were tacit; some were explicit. There was cooperation, accommodation and overlap. Journalists provided a full range of clandestine services—from simple intelligence gathering to serving as go?betweens with spies in Communist countries.

Reporters shared their notebooks with the CIA. Editors shared their staffs. Some of the journalists were Pulitzer Prize winners, distinguished reporters who considered themselves ambassadors without?portfolio for their country. Most were less exalted: foreign correspondents who found that their association with the Agency helped their work; stringers and freelancers who were as interested in the derring?do of the spy business as in filing articles; and, the smallest category, full?time CIA employees masquerading as journalists abroad.

In many instances, CIA documents show, journalists were engaged to perform tasks for the CIA with the consent of the managements of America’s leading news organizations.

Like any good intelligence agency, the CIA learned from its mistakes upon being exposed, and has since adjusted tactics. This is where the concept of “non-official cover” comes into play. The term was recently described by German journalist Udo Ulfkotte, in a blistering RT interview. Mr. Ulfkotte was previously a respected journalist for one of Germany’s main dailies, Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (FAZ), so he is no small fry.

“Non-official cover” occurs when a journalist is essentially working for the CIA, but it’s not in an official capacity. This allows both parties to reap the rewards of the partnership, while at the same time giving both sides plausible deniability. The CIA will find young journalists and mentor them. Suddenly doors will open up, rewards will be given, and before you know it, you owe your entire career to them. That’s essentially how it works. But don’t take it from me…

sleigher - read 'War Is A Racket' which was written by USMC General Smedly Butler - if you haven't.

Or at least just research what he was recruited to do down in Honduras
for American Corporations, and also about what Wall Street tried to recruit him to do (overthrow of U.S. Government).

You'll find Prescott Bush and some other familiar names in the mix.

It's fact, not conspiracy.

RT can't print a negative story about Russia or Vlad, but you give RT full credit anyway with nary a question about the veracity of the story.

Why?  Is it because you're a silly goose?

Amerikan Patriot's picture

And you, like the sucker you are, believe the story...even though RT is so biased it's constitutionally incapable of printing so much as a single anti-Putin story.

Tsk-tsk....

I'm trying to piece this together.  So he's saying that the CIA controls the press?  No mention of the press on the CIA website and vice versa.  Very clandestine indeed.

No one controls the CIA. That is the brilliance and endurance of its design, and why efforts to reform it or reign it in are always doomed failure.

This begs the question: Who rules GS?  Who are the majority shareholders -- open or hidden?

You know the hardest thing about being awake is,  this story is true, it's out there,  but in the end most don't care.   Even if you point people right at it.   People shut down and just shrug their shoulders.

saints51's picture

I think all on ZH care or we wouldn't be here. Sometimes I ask myself why should I care? I really try and do my part in changing our world for the better. Yet we are persecuted by our own brothers and sisters. After a while you start asking yourself the other question- Why try?

Same with humants.

As scary as the well connected are, I am usually more concerned about misdirected do-gooders doing someone else's bidding.  Ever drive by a planned parenthood clinic and see all the picketers?  Those people look like single minded zombies.  That's messed up, and scary.

It goes back to learned helplessness. Look to B.F. Skinner's experiments & research on Operant Conditioning & Learned Helplessness studies by Martin Seligman and S.F. Meir.

Yes. Sometimes I think I should start aligning myself with the elites. Most people fight any information that challenges their view of the world; even if that view has no basis in reality and actually hurts them. Why should I concern myself if most people are just this way?

TheReplacement's picture

If you do not try then you choose to go along which is tantamount to overtly supporting the tyrants in their persecutions of your own brothers and sisters.  Moral fiber and all that.

HamRove's picture

I have pointed numerous people right at the source of the problem. For one I get called a conspiracy theorist, and then I get told to get a life, then I get asked why do I pay attention to things I can't control?......

It really is infuriating These days, I don't even bother.

saints51's picture

Yep that is the main comment towards me when I try and show someone they have been duped - You can not control or do anything about it. Well thats true in a way but if everybody banded together and said enough is enough, Then the game changes. That old saying,"can't teach an old dog new tricks" is very true in this world. People just want to live in a bubble. Once bad things happen to them then they finally say why me. By that time the damage is done and its game over. It could of possibly been prevented if you would of paid attention to your surroundings.

Saying fuck em isn't really enough.  When there's trouble, or they just don't like you,  they'll be the narcs and spies for dot gov.  Sadly someday many of them will have to be targets.

There are two distinct moments in the history of fire.  The first is the work to build it.  We have to lay the tinder, the kindling, the logs, etc.  Only after that does the second part come: lighting the match and making the fire burn.  As anyone who has made fires knows (campfire or fireplace, the concept works in both), if the fire isn't constructed well, it's not going to catch.

So when you tell people and they give you this response, you are laying the fire.  I have had a lot of these conversations recently, and while people are not "lit" yet, they are hearing what I am saying.  In other words, the fuel is being constructed.  Keep at it.  The building is the hardest, and absolutely most important part.  The match will come, and with all the fuel on this one?  It's gonna be a doozy.

saints51's picture

I won't give up although I sure feel like saying the hell with all of you lately. Good advice +1

layman_please's picture

great analogy! i thank you for this. it actually puts things in perspective, like why have i failed in getting through to people i actually care about. propaganda and conditioning has been so systematic, that it's foolish to expect to change that with anything even slightly less elaborate. it will be hard work and patience which will rebuild the reality in the minds of the people.

you have done your best, when you don't even have to light the match but a random spark will be enough to ignite the fuel.

TheReplacement's picture

You, ahem, we need to start calling a duck a duck when it comes to people like that.

Shrugger, "Ah what can ya do about it?"

Us, "You can stop being a coward."

Kick 'em in the verbal nuts if they are that worthless.

sleigher's picture

" then I get asked why do I pay attention to things I can't control?"

That is the worst of all.  It is the people who are mentioned in the 10th amendment.  I politely remind them of that and they could control it if they weren't fucking stupid.

Kirk2NCC1701's picture

It was EXACTLY like this in pre-war Nazi Germany:  It's not that Good People kept silent, but that not enough good people spoke out.  Evil fanatics eventually outnumbered and swarmed the good, sensible, rational and decent people.

mkkby's picture

Captain, you are in denial.  Those so called good people will be collaborators, narcs and spies for the evil doers.  Many will even make false accusations against people they just don't like, or are jealous of.

Best thing to do is ask the Ignorati questions that force them to do some research on their own; examples:  "What is Money? ", "Ever hear of the Mandrake Mechanism?", "Who owns the Federal Reserve?", etc.

Here is something I was pointed to when I vocalized similar thoughts. I don't endorse the religious aspects of this article but it's worth reading.

Humans have to feel pain on a mass scale before they care.  That's how short sighted they are.

In the end, humans are like any other organism on Earth: when it comes down to it, they are out for numero uno.

darwinian evolution is a most heinous lie, and the foundation for eugenics, communism, marxism, nazi fascism, and all number of other evil 'isms.'.

we are created in the image of God.  that image can be defaced, but that image can NEVER be erased.

if you want to know what is wrong with this country, and the world, it is that we have denied our Maker.

when the satanic Darwinian view is espoused, then there is NO RULE  OF LAW, there is only the rule of the jungle.

until we, as a People, return to our Creator, there will be nothing but endless strife and tyranny.

only in Christ can we be free. as long as we are married to sin and death, we will be nothing more than slaves.

choose God and be free. reject Him, and be damned slaves.

They are our true enemy.  Bad guys are just doing what bad guys do and could be stopped easily by an engaged and informed majority.  Within the democratic environments we live these apathetic masses are the ones to blame for ensuring peaceful change is made impossible and thus the last resort of violent rebellion becomes inevitable.

It is indeed the hardest thing to accept .... especially when you start contemplating viable long-term solutions.

That the great mass of people out there don't care is a fear-induced illusion.

And it's many a step from knowing you're in a hall of mirrors to being able to see beyond it or know which way to go.

Been reading "Legacy of Ashes" book about CIA. This organization besides being thoroughly corrupt has also been incompetent since inception. The book could easily describe the keystone cops if not for how dangerous they are.
