CDC Explains Why 3-Out-Of-4 US Nurses Feel Unprepared For Ebola - Live Feed

Tyler Durden's picture

With three out of four nurses say their hospital hasn't provided sufficient education for them on Ebola, according to a survey by the largest professional association of registered nurses in the United States, it seems the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has decided its time to tamp down some more public fears over the contagiousness of this deadly disease... The CDC will provide an update on the response to the second U.S. Ebola diagnosis - the Dallas nurse who was infected while caring for a Liberian national in her hospital (supposedly due to her 'protocol breach')...

CDC Press Conference is due to start at 1200ET...

Do not shoot until you see the white of their eyes, or in case of ebola red from their rectum.

You will be seeing the reds of their eyes. That is a very distinctive and much earlier symptom. If you see anyone with red eyes do not let them near you.

Nothing quite like "Mother Nature" to illustrate the epic incompetence of a nation. Any people that can tolerate a government of bribed and allegedly blackmailed politicians, prosecutors, and judges; crony “revolving door” political appointees, grant chasing PhDs willing to deliver any desired conclusion, government thugs burning a baby in a crib, etc... – should become extinct.

Lies and bullshit are all they have left.

The only good news is that "Big Brother" is dying from information overload, cronyism, kick backs, systemic technical & managerial incompetence, pushback from interference with political and judicial processes, and increased public awareness.

All their alphabet soup data, drones, thugs, etc... will not save them as Mother Nature and/or “scientifically enhanced versions” of Mother Nature come calling.

Mother Nature has one fundamental law, and that is the law of the jungle. Something that humanity has forgotten in various times throughout history as various groups claim themselves to be “exceptional”, “chosen”, “special”, “cartoon characters”, etc...

Zero Sympathy for the parasites.

We have to pass the Obamacare to see what's in the Obamacare.

We have to send our military over to Africa to protect Americans in the US from Ebola.  No nevermind about shutting our borders/airports to those 'at-risk.'

Where's my pitchfork.  . .

So first he assures us that the American medical system is trained, equipped and ready to kick Ebola's ass. Now the story is the American medical system is trained, equipped, and ready to kick Ebola's ass except for the nurses. The nurses suck, and not in a good way.

True. The issue is the exponential math at work.  (Which plays out to a doubling every 3 weeks.) This is how the CDC estimated over 1 million infections by end of January. Do the math. Doubling of global number every 3 weeks quickly leads to 10 million, 100 million, and over 360 million (more than the U.S. population) next year.

VOX.com: "A top scientist worries that Ebola has mutated to become more contagious"

"Jahrling now serves as a chief scientist at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, where he runs the emerging viral pathogens section. He has been watching this Ebola epidemic with a mixture of horror, concern and scientific curiosity. And there's one thing he's found particularly worrisome: the mutations of the virus that are circulating now look to be more contagious than the ones that have turned up in the past.

When his team has run tests on patients in Liberia, they seem to carry a much higher "viral load." In other words, Ebola victims today have more of the virus in their blood — and that could make them more contagious"

But don't be concerned. Tom Friedan tweeted on Aug. 2 "The problem isn't that Ebola is highly infectious--it's not. It's that the stakes are so high. Meticulous procedures prevent spread."

I am now a conspiracy theorist. Here is the theory.

Many posting on here that Ebola is fake, do so to discredit any kind of critique the rest of us may have about the handling of this. They are being paid to do this. Those of us who critique the system will get lumped with the assholes who are claiming it is fake. We are all nuts. Look at what those people on that website are saying? Nuts. Dismiss us all.

I think some of you saying this, believe it. I think others are putting out fruit bat crazy shit so that the truth about how the govt. is fucking this up becomes that much harder to discern.

I actually questioned a poster who said "Ebola is fake" as that can be taken in many different ways. He explained that he meant the panic over it was unjustified (which I agree with).

But that statement at face value could be taken in so many different ways.

And there are so many crazy links flying about here unchallenged lately it is crazy.

We have had less than 10 people infected in the US.  And those were in direct contact with someone who was symptomatic.

Until they can accurately show me cases where mere proximity has led to an infection I think that the hype is overblown.

Certainly this is not done yet, but I have not yet begun any preps to head to the bug out location.

There are clearly trolls being paid to distribute the anti-quarantine diatribe:

1) Quarantine would be ineffective because the infected will just get a fake ID, and fly from a third nation.

2) Quarantine precludes health worker travel to treat disease

3) An Army would have to surround the country to prevent the escape of the infected.

4) Quarantine in the face of a highly infectious, deadly, and incurable disease has never been standard protocol (they never mention swine flu, or avian flu when they say this)

5) Quarantine is racist.

Go look at all the ebola threads of the last two weeks.  You will find OBVIOUS paid trolls distributing this crap.

HERE'S THE QUESTION:  Who would pay to promote behavior that enhances this diseases' transmission?   And why?

the general feeling around the hospital my wife works at is, "fuck this shit! we are not prepared for the treatment of an ebola patient and no hospital in the entire state is."  they aren't freaking out but part of that is we are in a low risk state. many have said they would refuse to treat a patient without the proper protocols(legal reason and union protected) in place and there are none so there may be a shopwdown coming to a hospital near you.

don't mess with nurses. they can make the most miserable wife look sweet if they need to.

So sticking with how the storyline goes, Duncan was turned away, sent home and cared for by family. Then he returns to hospital to be cared for by staff in full protective gear resulting in a sick nurse. In the meantime a deputy gets infected walking into the home during decontamination. Am I right so far?

So how is it none of the family members are ill while a deputy with 2nd hand contact, and a nurse following protocol are????

None of this MSM story passes the sniff test (no pun intended).

The deal with Duncan and his family is they knew Duncan had Ebola when he arrived and stayed away like he had the plague.

You're buying the bullshit narrative, teh family just doesn't want to get prosecuted for criminal conspiracy.

Homeland security should retrieve the phone calls from TX to Liberia and Duncan.

The Ebola virus may have arrived in the Manhattan borough of New York City as two possible patients have been quarantined at Bellevue Hospital.

Both persons had symptoms consistent with the deadly virus.

Sources told the New York Daily News that the people were taken to the hospital by Fire Department ambulances after being picked up somewhere in the city.

The pair are believed to have recently returned to the city from Africa, the sources said. Medical staff are examining the patients, trying to prove or disprove that they have Ebola.

We have reached the point where a significant minority if not a majority of the public no longer believes anything the government says particularly when it comes to issues that can or do effect individuals directly.

The fact is this out break of Ebola started in December of last year and did nothing but continue to spread.  There were some virologists and pathologists who were warning early on that this out break would be different because of its proximity to dense population centers. By mid June, July the stories began to appear that this was the largest known outbreak of the disease.  Well here we are some three months later and the disease has reached in Europe and North America. All that said the questions that need to be asked don't yet appear on the horizon.

1. Did the CDC or NIH begin any preparations when the first warning came out about the danger posed by the proximity to urban population centers?  If yes what were they and why have they so obviously failed?  If not, why not.

2.  When it became clear that this was a large and largely out of control outbreak what steps did the agencies take then. Again why have they failed or why were they not taken.

3.  How many dead Americans will it take before the agencies and the Obama administration STOP PLAYING POLITICS and start operating in the best interest of the America people?  Namely really and truely close the borders as effectively as possible and halt all direct and indirect travel from the epicenters in Africa.

4. How many dead Americans will it take before the American people in mass stand up and demand the government take all reasonable and necessary steps to keep this menace from our shores?

Nice post.

To your third question, the answer is never. Politics attracts liars and hones their skills of prevarication. Given sufficient time, they believe that falsehood is morally the right choice.

To your fourth question, probably after it is too late to stop this new plague. It may already be too late.

Wish I could be more encouraging.

The hard personal question for many is when do you "bug in", shut the doors, and wait it out.

I'm praying someone discovers a really simple cure, like eating lima beans; but then we would each face the difficult choice of which is worse, disease or cure.

Africa has total population of 1.1 billion people.

At the infection rate cited by the CDC, by August 2015, most of these people could have been exposed to Ebola, and some 550 million could be dead.

Within two weeks, the USA is either in deep s**t or news about Ebola is practically over.

Among the 150 West Africans coming in every day for months (reckless policy, I know), we have one known Ebola victim, Mr. Duncan.  We have had false alarms in multiple spots but nothing yet.

The US government's policy is negligent.  But the Obama Administration may actually get lucky and come up smelling like roses by the end of October, just in time for midterms.

Modern Health Care for Dummies:

Overwhelmed with pride (or Hubris) for medicine's recent (but premature) anti-biotic-fed victory over Tuberculosis, Polio, etc, the world's health facilities and public largely forgot the protocols for incurable infectious diseases.  But confidence in their inherent superiority to their forebearers blinded them to the need to research, refresh and retrain, leading to a catastrophe of apocalyptic (ebolalyptic) proportions.

THE END.
