Dallas Commissioners Will Declare State Of Disaster Tomorrow Over Ebola

Tyler Durden's picture

While the message from the President is 'keep calm and avoid bodily fluids', it appears the commissioners in Dallas are slightly more concerned at the potential for Ebola to escalate:

  • *DALLAS COMMISSIONERS TO DECLARE LOCAL STATE OF DISASTER TOMORROW: NBC-TV
  • *DALLAS COUNTY CONSIDERS DECLARING STATE OF DISASTER FROM EBOLA
  • *DALLAS DISASTER DECLARATION WOULD ACTIVATE EMERGENCY PLAN

While we are not sure where a "state of disaster" ranks relative to a "public health emergency" such as the one in Connecticut, we are certain of one thing - it will mean civil liberties will be reduced as government takes control.

*  *  *

Welcome to the new normal American police state.

*  *  *

And then there's this... (as NBC Dallas reports)

Officials with Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas are apologizing for misdiagnosing the country's first Ebola patient.

In testimony that will be submitted to the House of Representives on Thursday, Dr. Daniel Varga, chief clinical officer at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas, admitted to mistakes that were made during Thomas Eric Duncan's care when he first arrived at the hospital's emergency room.

"As the first hospital in the country to both diagnose and treat a patient with Ebola, we are committed to using our experience to help other hospitals and healthcare providers protect public health against this insidious virus, Varga said in the prepared testimony.

"It’s hard for me to put into words how we felt when our patient Thomas Eric Duncan lost his struggle with Ebola on October 8. It was devastating to the nurses, doctors, and team who tried so hard to save his life," Varga said in the statement. "We keep his family in our thoughts and prayers. Unfortunately, in our initial treatment of Mr. Duncan, despite our best intentions and a highly skilled medical team, we made mistakes. We did not correctly diagnose his symptoms as those of Ebola. We are deeply sorry."

*  *  *

Perhaps even more concerning is that the CDC appears to have given the second nurse infected with Ebola permission to fly (despite her reporting she had an elevated temperature), as CBS reports:

CBS News Medical Correspondent Dr. John LaPook reports that Vinson called the CDC several times before boarding the plane concerned about her fever.

“This nurse, Nurse Vinson,  did in fact call the CDC several times before taking that flight and said she has a temperature, a fever of 99.5, and the person at the CDC looked at a chart and because her temperature wasn’t 100.4 or higher she didn’t officially fall into the category of high risk.”

Vinson first reported a fever to the hospital on Tuesday (Oct. 14) and was isolated within 90 minutes, according to officials. She did not exhibit symptoms while on the Monday flight, according to crew members. However, the CDC says passenger notification is needed as an “extra level of safety” due to the proximity in time between the flight and the first reported symptoms.

“Those who have exposures to Ebola, she should not have traveled on a commercial airline,” said Dr. Frieden. “The CDC guidance in this setting outlines the need for controlled movement. That can include a charter plane; that can include a car; but it does not include public transport. We will from this moment forward ensure that no other individual who is being monitored for exposure undergoes travel in any way other than controlled movement.”

Do these people really know what they are dealing with?

It's all predictable if you understand PC logic where the prime directive is to not do or say anything that would offend people higher up on the PC moral heirarchy. If Ebola came out of Iceland there would have been a quarantine straight away and none of this would be happening.

Isn't it about time for a long and loud group apology to the nurse who stayed in contact with the CDC before she boarded that return flight from Cleveland?

However, this is a clear object lesson that should teach us that multiple advanced degrees are no substitute for common sense.

Wed, 10/15/2014 - 22:44 | 5339243 Village-idiot
Village-idiot's picture

I believe she started to spike a temperature while still in Cleveland. At that point she should have gone directly to the nearest hospital, NOT boarded a plane for Dallas.

The CDC told her not to use public transportation if she started to get feverish.

Wed, 10/15/2014 - 22:52 | 5339302 tumblemore

if they knew she had a temperature they should have put her in isolation. blaming her is the CDC covering their ass.

i wouldn't go as far as an apology as health care workers should be ignoring the CDC and acting on their own common sense but it shows the CDC will dump on health workers to cover their ass so one more reasson not to trust what they say.

There has never been a non-exponential event in Ebola's short history; therefore, expect a multiple-case day before the week is out. And from that, one can extrapolate to oblivion--if it suits one's agenda--by merely putting the numbers into an Excel spreadsheet and saying: According to the facts, we're fucked by month/day! Just look at the extrapolation on this graph! You die here! Your neighbor dies here! Your town is a smoking vaporized memory here...

If it is a hoax then your Government is going to use it to strip your Civil Liberties.

If it is true then your Government is going to use it to strip your Civil Liberties...plus...you have a good chance of death.

If your Civil Liberties are going to be stripped as a result of a hoax or as a result of the truth then your Civil Liberties are going to be stripped. It is, after all, rather tautalogical.

So what do you suggest DOING about the intention of the Government stripping you of your Civil Liberties? (Restriction to travel, Martial Law, etc...)

Before that happens then I suggest that YOU BUG OUT. NOW is the time to go completely off grid, under the radar, and get out before they crush you.

If you are an operative of the Government trying to quash the panic by planting hoax stories then you just serve the needs of those whom are against your tyranny. I will expose that.

However if you truly believe the hoax stories that COINTEL is publishing then I am letting you know that it makes no difference as to the survival strategy to follow.

The difference between you and me is that I am giving the reader a strategy for survival in EITHER MANIFESTATION whereas you are not.

Understand?

(In a sense I really hope that you are right. It will be much easier to survive after Martial Law is declared with Ebola being a hoaz compared to that if it is not a hoax.)

Tom is spot on.  I continue to have greater fear to my safety from what .gov might do reacting to Ebola than from the virus itself, but the virus is demonstrating itself to be fearsome in the early innings in the US.  Everyone in the US in on a countdown clock til 2 PM Eastern tomorrow.  Dont know what they are going to say, but be prepared for the announcement of more infections, and the ensuing 'bank run' on everything a prepper will need.  If I living in the Dallas area, I'd be taking tomorrow off work . . .

From the US Customs Website:

Soil, Sand and Minerals

Soil-borne organisms threaten both plants and animals. If you visited a farm or ranch in a foreign country, agricultural specialists may have to examine and disinfect your shoes or clothing. Vehicles must also be cleaned of any soil. No soil or earth of any kind is allowed into the United States without a permit issued in advance by USDA Plant Protection and Quarantine Permit Unit. Pure sand, such as a small container of decorative beach sand, is usually allowed. Always check with the permit unit in advance for details.

So, if you're keeping score on what's currently allowed into the US:

  • Slightly Soiled Shoes:  NO!
  • People With Active Ebola Infections:  YES!

The moral of this story is:  the gubermit cares more about agribusiness (Monsanto, ADM, Cargill) then they do about humans.

Have a nice day.

Wife's been in the redline with ER friends at some NYC hospitals. Belleview is ground zero hospital and all suspected will be shuttled there due to their Tuberculosis quarantine room. look on the bright side, the banking mafia are going to destroy America and the only thing that can stop it is if the MIC realise in time and take them out. now the banking mafia wanted mass immigration to lower wages so they started PC as an ideology to break public resistance to mass immigration but with Ebola (imo) PC may have turned round and bit them on the ass - which (imo) increases the possible tension between the MIC faction and the banking mafia faction.

We will be okay if it falls apart tomorrow ... we would just hope it doesn't.

I have had trouble sleeping for the last six years. Obama made every red flag within me go ballistic. To sum up the last six years, you have to ask yourself this ~ are you more afraid of having your head cut off or catching the deadly, painful Ebola? Yep, that's where Barack Insane Obola has taken this country. Time to quarantine Liberals & let Conservatives handle this disaster!

I am not afraid of either option proposed ... what will be will be.

However, I do disagree regarding the blue versus red thing.  The only truly liberating course of action would be to cast them both to the curb and John Q Public take control

You're right about the red/blue team. They do have some common sense republicans, not many but a few. We need honest, American loving Patriots to stand up & stop the insanity. It's actually now life or death. In my opinion, Trey Gowdy & Ted Cruz would be a great start.

Take a look at what's just happened to a major Dallas hospital.  The ER is shuttered.  Probably a sizable chunk of the hospital staff, and their families,  are now on leave for ebola quarantine.  Patient number 3 just took a plane trip and possibly exposed more than 100 peeps who now also have to be watched, along with their families.  Even at this early moment, the CDC is being streched for resources.  I bet their phones are perpetually busy. Containment has been lost, and this virus is apparently far easier to catch than they originally thought. I'd say we are close to an "Oh shit" moment where this gets taken out of civilian hands and the military steps in.  If that happens, I suspect we will get local travel restrictions, airport closures, and road blocks.  In all honesty, it's probably a good idea to shut this thing down before it really gets out of hand.

Can't be too specific, but top hospital administrator tells me that anyone arriving in emergency room presenting as potentially ebola at hospitals in DFW area will be denied admittance and redirected to go to Dallas Presby, referred to by them as 'Ground Zero'. This makes sense, whatever CDC resources are brought to bear can be focused there instead of risking having numerous repeats of Presby mess at other local hospitals.

Also, major national hospital chain, in setting up their staffing to handle any ebola quarantine cases, that could pop up elsewhere across the country at any of their other hospitals, are instructing all of them to priority schedule first atop the list only those medical staff that are single without kids. Another smart (and sobering) move.

1000s exposed to EBOLA in USA

Guys/Gals, Anybody that crossed the security check point at the airport after the second sick nurse has shared fluids with her, through the plants of their feet, when they were required to take off their shoes while crossing security. Those carpets are WET with the perspiration of the people that crossed before you, and your socks will help NOTHING.

If if the virus lives 5 minutes or even 1 minute, anybody that crossed behind her IS infected. The people in the plane are probably at a lot lower risk of having shared fluids with the infectious nurse coming back to Dallas than the people that crossed security behind her. They urgently need to look at those cameras and identify every one of them and isolate them asap.

If I knew somebody at the CDC I would send this directly to them.

Millions of people are sharing fluids while crossing security checkpoints at airports every singly day in the USA and worldwide. That practice must be changed NOW. If you now anybody at the CDC and read this, please pass it on to them.

 E-Z Ebola Transmission Vector

Warm moist foam (sponge) seat cushion or couch where Ebola virus survives for hours, on a bus, bus station, plane, airport, train, train station, cab, waiting room, hospital, doctor office, restaurant.

Coupled with patient sweating and various liquid emissions (blood, gas, bowel) into the cushion seat. Then next victim sitting in warm cushion in it and touching it and wiping it.

That specific seat is probably 'contagious' for 24 hours or more...the seat and virus kept warm and moist.

Well that's a good basic point: if she was infectious, which she was, why just follow up on the plane? Did she use the restroom at the airport? Eat there? Buy a magazine? Worse, did she use the restroom on the plane. And wow, I feel sorry for whoever sat next to her, and in front and behind.

Some of what officialdom is saying sounds kind of faith-based...like they're hoping there's no real reason to be concerned.

NO THEY DON"T HAVE A CLUE AND SHOULD BE FORCED TO RESIGN particularly the head of the CDC. Doctors so incompetent they don't know the basic approach to managing ebola contagious patients. MY LORD! Another case of MONDO UNIVERSE where we give out credentials to morons. The debate about "airborne" or not stupid. Prudence would dictate treat it like its airborne and coughing sneezing breathing make it airborn locally anyway duh. Waiting for passengers to show signs of the disease (fever) ignores one can be contagious before having the fever! Stupid incompetent morons thats who does healthcare in America. Politically correct to the points of complete intolerable incompetence. And not shutting down transit from the stricken countries is also stupid...too bad for those than want to flee. At best they should be quarantined from departure to landing in quarantine. England won't let dogs in the country for six months to prevent rabies. WHat's so hard about this?

There need to be three rooms leaving an ebola patient for decontamination just like chemical or radioactive decontamination and those working with ebola patients should probably be quarantined too until they are clear to mingle with the population. Involves sacrifice which is perhaps too much for our spoiled over class of doctors to deal with.

Managing contact with potentially contagious persons is already fairly complex...everyone on one of those planes and everyone on the supposedly "decontaminated" planes and everyone at emergency rooms where ebola victims wander in. Oh well no one in America has the skills for that. Its over folks. Stupidity, political correctness, nepotism, lack of education has finally come home to roost as a simple contagious disease reveals the Emperor has no clothes.

The main problem is some people are going to end up with this disease who have no known risk factors or contacts. They are just going to get ill and show up at some hospital with what they think is the flu or whatever. The hospital will treat them about like they treated Duncan on his first visit, and send them home.  Then they come back in a day or two in even worse shape. Duncan's story is going to be repeated until every hospital is on red alert.  Every fever or viral syndrome patient will have to be assumed to have ebola and tested while in isolation.  The problem is there are not enough of those kind of isolation facilities to go around for those volumes of patients.  The hospitals' challenge is going to be keeping their staff healthy and unexposed so they don't have to take quarantine leave. That's going to be a huge challenge. This virus is going to eat away at the health care staffing and capacity until there won't be effective healthcare for anyone.  If you are going to get ebola, better get it early or you may not get any care.  Maybe you will end up on a cot in some crowded tent or warehouse somewhere hoping your' in the 30% or so that live through it.

"Maybe you will end up on a cot in some crowded tent or warehouse somewhere hoping your' in the 30% or so that live through it."

This is the best-case scenario @ the FEMA/UN Ebola camps.  If you agree to go, you and your loved ones can count on constant exposure to Ebola, degradation in medical staffing, (eventually) degradation of logistic (food, clothes, medical supplies), no way to leave.  It's like becoming an experimental patient of Josef Mengele, except there will be no single person to hold accountable.
