Putin Warns Of "Nuclear Power Consequences" If Attempts To Blackmail Russia Don't Stop

Tyler Durden's picture

Vladimir Putin slams President Obama for adopting a "hostile" approach in naming Russia as a threat to the world in his recent UN speech. From an interview with Serbia's Politika newspaper, Bloomberg reports,

It’s futile for the U.S. and its allies to “blackmail” Russia over the Ukraine crisis, President Vladimir Putin said in a newspaper interview today.

Russia’s partners should remember the risks involved in disputes between nuclear powers, Putin said. He accused Barack Obama of adopting a “hostile” approach in naming Russia as a threat to the world in the U.S. president’s speech to the United Nations General Assembly on Sept. 24.

“We hope that our partners will realize the futility of attempts to blackmail Russia and remember what consequences discord between major nuclear powers could bring for strategic stability,” Putin told Serbia’s Politika newspaper on the eve of his visit to the Balkan nation today.

Putin said that Obama had identified Russian aggression in Europe as one of the three “major threats facing humanity,” alongside the Ebola virus and Islamic State.

“Together with the sanctions against entire sectors of our economy, this approach can be called nothing but hostile,” Putin said.

Attempts to pressure Russia with “unilateral and illegitimate restrictive measures” will impede efforts to settle the crisis, he said.

“How can we talk about de-escalation in Ukraine while the decisions on new sanctions are introduced almost simultaneously with the agreements on the peace process?” he said. “If the main goal is to isolate our country, it’s an absurd and illusory goal.”

I believe what he was getting at with Putin being weak is, Obama has no problem sacraficing us to the slaughter. Look at the EU and their sanctions, who is it effecting the most? The people issuing the sanctions or the citizens of the country who's issuing them.

Putin's weakness with caring for Russia and it's citizens means they will eventually to suffer too.

He is in a strong position because the Russian people are infinitely more capable of enduring hardship than soft lazy fat americans.

No, he's in a weak position because he's facing off against the richest countries in the world, one of whom issues the world reserve currency and has 15 carrier groups and spends as much on its military as the rest of the world combined.

Furthermore, his only allies are dictatorships with unstable, unpopular governments.

Now, I'm not saying the West isn't a bunch of defacto dictatorships; but they're stable and their sheep accept them at face value.

I know you're hoping someone - anyone! - will ride to our rescue, and are desperate to fit Putin into that mold; but the guy is just another ruthless oligarch. Yes, at present, he's a ruthless oligarch standing up to our ruthless oligarchs... but that doesn't make him your friend or even ally.

It's amazing how sheeplike my fellow libertarians can be when they're blinded by hope.

Assad will be ousted. Russia will lose its port in Tartus. The Qatarian gas pipeline will be laid and then the EU will ban Russian gas imports on some spurious pretext at the behest of our zionist masters. ZATO will keep chipping away at Iran, who are ruled by a deeply unpopular bunch of theocratic nutjobs, while they chisel away at Putin, whose declining revenues will lead to unrest at home.

What's his face above got it right; if Putin was ever to successfully stand up to the West, he should have ensured Ghadaffi didn't get taken down. Why isn't he in Syria destroying the ISIS seige of Kobani? And fostering revolt by the Turkish Kurds? Or getting Shia proxies to blow up oil installations in Saudi, or assassinating OPEC leaders to weaken the petrodollar?

Russia is a nuclear power.. but it simply cannot meaningfully project conventional force outside its own immediate sphere of influence. That's the conclusion I've come to.

Junk away, sheep.

Stop looking at the ledgers, open your eyes, and see who actually controls everything. Our ZATO masters control most of OPEC. They control the most powerful military the world has ever seen. They control most of the Western world and the wealth it contains.

The debt is just fucking marks on paper.... actually, it's not even that. It's a few electrons here and there in a database.

If/when push comes to shove, the paper will burn and control will revert to defacto ownership. Forget the debt - how is China going to collect?

China owns a shitload of Western paper. Yes, it's also far richer today in real wealth (hard assets) than it used to be.. but again, forget who supposedly 'owns' what, and look who actually controls what.

Wake me up when that changes; because, until then, the empire marches on.

Well said BigJim.

Typical of lazy losers who lack a living Spirit. If you dont have the guts to do something than ATLEAST one can SAY the right thing!

I wouldn't be surprised if Putin senses that need among the people abroad esp. in the West and plays to it with his photo shoots.

Russia is a Nuclear power, no doubt, and probably would even use them if threatened but THAT is the whole point!

WHY THE FUCK WAIT TILL THAT MOMENT WHEN YOU HAVE TO GO NUCLEAR WHEN YOU COULD HAVE HANGED A FEW FOLKS FROM LAMP POSTS AND SEND A CLEAR SIGNAL TO BACK OFF, WRAP UP AND FUCK OFF TO THE PSYCOPATHS!!!

He is willing to go Nuclear but dont want to roll into Kiev for a few nights?

(Have you seen ANYONE of any significance around the world ever trying to reveal or say things about 911, even Snowden or brave Assange and Wikileaks leaking any cables in and around 911 or even Putin about the MH17 incident???  ITS A FUCKING THEATRE FOR THE MASSES while the real discussion is done behind closed doors! - Rules for the players to abide by, keep the shit among themselves, and anyone who breaks that rule goes the way of Ghaddafi)

Its like a quiet kid, who is an excellent fighter, keeps to himslf and gets bullied by other kids and also his friends and bears with it, just giving them warnings while they keep causing hassle for everyone till one day he loses it and knocks them out real bad and gets cautioned or expelled from school for using excessive force etc.

Whereas he could have given a slap across the face the first time, the first kid who bullied him and avoided all that.

Lets assume Russia does Nuke few cities in the West and wins militarily. How will it go down among the rest of the world when they see all that civilian suffering caused by Putin? Uncle Sam could then say "We told you so... he is a threat to Humanity!"

If he is a chess player, he totally sucks!

Russia has a weak hand and TIME is NOT on Russia's side!

This ISIS thing and adventures into Syria were in the making for like last 30 YEARS!! There is a reason they flash those black flags on every opportunity they get. That started as soon as the USSR fell or even earlier.

Uncle Sam gave ISIS quite sophisticated US weaponry for a rag tag crew but Putin cant give S400 systems to Syria and Iran?

There was a time when even Pakistan send its Fighter Pilots to defend Syria, during the time of Assad's father. Now its sending ISIS recruits to fight against his son.

Russia's pipeline to China goes through Xinjiang, home to SURPRISE SURPRISE Chinese Uighur Muslims who have a direct link/border with Afghanistan, where SURPRISE SURPRISE, US already has bases!

Getting that pipeline through Russia to Chine will not be that easy if Putin cannot operate the existing one right in his backyard (Europe) properly! They are probably waiting for Russia and Chine ot get the infra structure in place before taking them out.. ultimate lulz

How difficult wil it be to revive the Mujahideen or get ISIS into Xinjiang? We saw what happened in Hong Kong recently, clearly shows Uncle Sam dont really give a shit and will do things with impunity.

I hope Putin/Russia does have some surprises up his sleeve (except the Nuclear option) otherwise...

WAKE THE FUCK UP!

if you guys are counting Putin's weaknesses, then I have another one on the list: note the "macho" attitude he has to propagate? The authoritarian and fatherly figure, right out of the classical fascist toolbox? (which of course begs for the question how Libertarian those guys are, if they love, love, love such an authoritarian father figure)

well, guess what: plenty of Russian, including oligarchs, which find it not enough, and ask for moar. And that is a big political problem for him, then Russia's options are limited. Not necessarily bad, as a set of given cards or pieces, but "the sky is not the limit"

BigJim "The Qatarian gas pipeline will be laid and then the EU will ban Russian gas imports on some spurious pretext at the behest of our zionist masters."

I don't think this is likely. Sure, this would be a wet dream of the neo-cons bunch that love, love, love to poke the Bear, but this plan is a tad too grandiose

In Europe there are different attitudes versus Russia. Sure, some of our Easterners are very vocal Bear-Bashers, and SplendidAlbion has never stopped being anti-Russian (London's love story with more or less renegade Russian oligarchs notwithstanding), but "core europe" is perfectly aware that denying Russia the access to the european gas market this way and in such fullness is utterly mad.

But that's the problem, isn't it? The Way of the Middle, the Way of Sanity is difficult, when so many try to poke and enrage the Bear, and on the other side the Bear is just chewing a piece of another sovereign's territory

No, a gas import embargo is not a sane option. Plenty of ink was spilled on how utterly critical this gas is... debatable. But don't think even for a moment that europe is going to embark to the full madness of the total economic war they are asking for

The litmus test for Russia under Putin, in my view is: How many average talented and skillful people from th rest of the World are willing to move to Russia and settle down there with their families? Security concerns.

I have a friend, blonde blue eyed European not a brown immigrant, who went to Moscow for work for a Russian company. One day police came to search his apartment and they were thoroughly rude and aggressive towards him. They were only speaking Russian, lucky for him that his wife speaks fluent Russian and managed to avoid some serious hassle. He left after 6 months.

- Re the gas: If EU's economy keeps shrinking like the way it is, EU might not need all that gas and/or if the EU can get cheaper gas than Russia from elsewhere that no need for an embargo. Just a commercial decision.

- Another play, which I think the West would employ is to make life difficult for the Russian oligarchs and threaten their wealth. That is bound to rouse some opposition or even anger towards Putin and make his life more difficult.

Also someone who worked for Southstream pipeline project said it was an utter chaos in terms of management. Note how many Russian companies have British or American individuals in higher management. Corporate espionage or even sabotage risk for Russian firms operating internationally would be right up there!

LULZBank, there is one detail of the gas imports in Europe which is seldom mentioned: Eastern Europe is way more "gas-oriented" then the rest. Legacy. Including the soviet-style heating arrangements they have in parts, with up to 25'000 people getting all their heating from one "little" powerstation. An interestingly large chunk of energy companies are puzzling since years how to finance a more western approach to modernization of those arrangements

as such, Kremlin-loyalist oligarchs are already being targeted, though some of them... well, they were a bit exxagerating. But remember Cyprus? Many of the Russians that got burned in Cyprus were not oligarch-class Russians, they were Russian bureacrats. The very same that were castigated by the Kremlin for too much foreign travels and too much off-shore interests, and are now kindly requested to go to Sochi for their skiing and to Crimea for their sun baths. To the point that many of them suspect the Kremlin to have arranged Cyprus to go that way

Putin is in the same way as ancient Romans described being in power (when the republic is ill): on the back of the she-wolf, holding tight on her ears, gripping for life itself. The price of authoritarian rule

you point to a very interesting bunch of people you can find nearly everywhere: the American and British managers in Global Big Biz. personally, I think they are all in a very troublesome position. Great marketers, excellent administrators, and yet... often terrible when it comes to adapt and adjust to very local situations, particularly with changing cultural and political settings. The "Riders of Globalization", if this tide ever turns I expect some of them will be quite at loss with changing conditions

Russian management? Oh, don't get me even started. Add that to Putin's headaches, too

I know what you mean, have seen those. I think they work when you have abundance of cheap gas, not so efficient and market economy oriented.

Re Cyprus: There were also some small to medium sized Russian oil traders operating out of Cyprus. Not sure if they managed to get out. But yes, it could even be said (or suspected) that Putin could have instigated it, but I would doubt it. He just let is happen and was pleased with it. One thing about West is they are not emotional about things, just pragmatic :)

Great marketers, excellent administrators, and yet... often terrible when it comes to adapt and adjust to very local situations,

Old imperialist/colonial mindset maybe ;)

However, when Emperor Putin wants to have a meeting with you, he wants it NOW and sends his private jet to pick you up ;)

I have heard of 2 (multibillion) Russian companies who went to shits because of a tussle between Russian owners and British/American management. Which kind of makes me think Russians are not in the business with a long term mindset, otherwise they should have got their own personnel trained up to run businesses. Its like they just want to sell gas/oil and get the money.

If you speak Russian, then why not?

But this is yet another disadvantage for Putin and Russia. Lulzbank above gives an anecdote where the Russian police came into his firend's apartment and trashed it and were rude and only spoke Russian - but this could happen anywhere. If you were a Russian working in the US, you could be subject to a no-knock raid and have a ginned-up SWAT team break down your door. Do you think they're all polyglots, and would talk to the immigrant in their own tongue? Of course not. The point is not that Russia is more tyrannical than the US (form the point of view of the average person living there) - it probably isn't. The thing is hardly anyone outside Russia speaks Russian, whereas English is (still) THE Lingua Franca.

Far East (Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Brunei) is worse than Wild West.

In Wild West, atleast its open game to everyone who has the will and the guts. These countries are Authoratarian nightmares, for foreigners esp. of non-white origin. Infact it is getting to a point where they are becoming the income source for the bureaucrats and govt officials.

Police has individuals who plant drugs and evidence of a crime on people, shortly followed by a police raid and then you are done. A true nightmare starts which costs lot of money. They will ask for bribes and then even after taking the bribe will not help.

The whole of police and judicial system depends on this judicialised kidnap for ransom scam.

e.g. the recent murder of British nationals in Thailand. The suspects are ofcourse foreign migrant workers.

Another thing to bear in mind is, for now Dollar and EURs buy a lot of love and respect but if and when the financial system crashes or resets, how many of the farangs will be loved and respected in the Far East then or become targets for bounty hunters

There aren't much decent places left on this planet I think, maybe some pockets.

Very True, the Russian Far East and also the Central Asia do have tremendous potential. The region was very prosperous back in the days of Silk Road trade. Melting pot of food, culture, art and people. More like how Europe is nowdays.

I do keep an eye on those parts to see signs of normalcy to venture out.

The region with local supply of energy will be the one where there will be prosperity in the coming decades and that is what thsi whole struggle is about, I think. The only stumbling block is how the leader of Russia (the force in the region) will behave.

Not sure if you know this, but quite fascianting. Zoroastrian Fire Temples

Because they're NOT Libertarian of course, ZH is full of them. They're simply right-wing Authoritarian calling themselves Libertarian. They despise the left-wing in all forms (be it Libertarian or Authoritarian), but especially when it's Authoritarian. When private sector Authority is blindingly obvious, they pretend not to see and try a little more distraction by screaming and pointing "Socialism" about something the government is doing.

It IS possible to be a right-wing Libertarian, I've just never actually met one.

The banking mafia off-shored the real US economy - the current US economy is just mass banking fraud. The europeans are in just as bad a shape - also because of the banking mafia off-shoring the industry to China (Russia allies btw) plus most of the european allies apart from the UK (as banking mafia ruled as the US) are being coerced into the anti-Putin coalition with most of their population against it.

Also US military expenditure is currently a weak spot now in the same way it was for the old USSR i.e. it's too big for its economy since the off-shoring.

It's highly possible the current dollar war will take down both Russia and the West (and that may in fact be the goal) but currently I'd say Russia had the strongest defensive hand and if they can keep fending off attacks the US economy will collapse before the Russian one.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) estimates that each year approximately one million people die from suicide, which represents a global mortality rate of 16 people per 100,000 or one death every 40 seconds. It is predicted that by 2020 the rate of death will increase to one every 20 seconds.

Putin was the leader Russia needed.  Thanks to the US/UK and the neocons - he continues to be.

Meanwhile, the US has steadily been losing freedom in order to maintain the International Banking Empire, and to make Israel's enemies our own because the Israel/Jewish lobby has largely hijacked State, and Congress, and even, it seems, the news media.

Growing or possessing a plant or otherwise, is NOT an act of violence against others.

Kidnapping, plundering, and caging a person for possessing a plant or otherwise, is.

The Unconstitutional, and oath violating acts of violence and plunder against people for "possession," "distribution," or "sale" of a plant or otherwise is an act of war against the people. Even clearer so if called the "war on drugs."

The "war on drugs" is treason, and "following orders" is not a defense (Nuremberg IV).

Tried explaining that to my dad lastnight.

He wanted to know why all of a sudden the price of oil has gone down. I reminded him that the DC US and their Israeli maters have failed in the Ukraine and are failing again in taking out Assad in Greater Israel.

Russia is dependent on oil and gas revenue and is likely to hike gas rates while lowering deliveries to Europe. The Rothschild West is trying to preempt that move by knocking oil prices, and by extension, nat. gas prices, down.

The effect will hit both Russia and their buddy Iran in the pocketbook--two birds with one DC US/Israeli stone.

The Saudis and others will make up the lost profit at the pump, as they own or control many retail fuel outlets: I.e. don't expect the price of gasoline, nat. gas and fuel oil to fall too precipitously.

An American, not US subject.

I'd play Arbitrage games with Oil, if I were Russia:

1. Buy it cheap from the Saudis, using USDs

2. Store it for a few months

3. Sell it in CNY or Gold after that.

As someone noted last night, you end up flooding the Saudi banks with tons of fiat USDs, and cause them to look for a 'home', while injecting tons of CNY when you sell said (devalued) Oil. That weakens the Dollar as the GRC, leaving it vulnerable for its demise as the GRC.

This has to piss off the EU. They had to stock up on NG at full price this summer - their storage was all but maxed out. It doesn't matter if someone was giving it away to them now. They blew their NG budget for this year and don't have any place left to stash any more away until maybe December or January. They can't even back-flow it to Ukraine anymore. And Qatar can sell LNG for pennies if they want. Most of the EU doesn't have much capacity to store or re-gas LNG compared to their regular NG needs.
