Chicago Hospitals Monitoring 2 Sick Passengers From Liberia, CDC Not Testing For Ebola

Tyler Durden's picture

Just when you thought it was safe to BTF-Ebola-Is-Fixed-Dip... ABC7 Chicago reports, two unrelated passengers (one child - vomiting, no fever; one adult - nausea, diarrhea, no fever) originating from Liberia became ill en route to O'Hare International Airport. The two patients are being monitored in isolation at The University of Chicago Medical Center and Rush University Medical Center but based on the latest reports and risk exposures (from the Chicago Ebola Resource Network), the CDC has determined not to test them for Ebola... (perhaps they are waiting for Ron Klain to start work tomorrow to give them the go-ahead).

“City and hospital officials are working closely with the CDC to continue monitoring,” officials noted.

As someone who has inlaws there...and the wife plans on dragging me there for Halloween, I can say that I don't share your optimism.
If these "folks" are being quarantined, it won't be in the south side. That would be an improvement.
It will be in THEE epicenter of Lake Forest. In some forclosure mansion or something. You'll see clipboard dude picking up their lunch at Quedoba.

I hope it blows up more between now and then. The thought of being stuck in a Chicago burb under quarantine...unarmed and unprepared....is about the worst thing I can imagine. I may fake "the flu" days before so I can sit this one out.

Whaaaaat did I just read - the adult had Typhoid Fever in August and was issued a Visa to enter the US now?   Seeing how fabulous medical care is over there, do you really think that this person was tested prior to leaving Liberia to see if the bacterium was definitively no longer present in her system?  Er um, what if this person used the restroom on the plane and "wasn't tidy",left the bacterium about in specimens, other passengers got the bacterium on their hands, and then used those hands to eat (or blow there noses, or just put their fingers in their mouths, etc).  Thyphoid fever isn't anything to sneeze at either.  Why is a person 2 months out from a typhoid fever diagnosis allowed to travel into our country?

Because refusing him would have been deemed racist. On a lighter note 70,000 fans were refused entry into an empty CSKA Moscow stadium last night - third time in a row - because some of them had shouted rude things at black players a few months ago.  Imagine, football fans shouting at the oppositin!  Insanity has taken over.

Another one landed in Newark this afternoon also.  This will continue as long as they keep allowing flights from the Ebola-affected countries.  This is going to be astronomically expensive and the taxpayer will be footing the bill.  We are already giving aid (~ $100 million) and sending troops over to West Africa, maybe those who are advocating flights from the region continue should pay for this out of their own pockets.

"As the Obama administration announced steps to tighten screening of travelers from Ebola-ravaged West Africa, an airline passenger who landed in Newark on Tuesday afternoon after spending time in Liberia was brought to University Hospital for evaluation for possible symptoms and exposure to the disease.

“During the enhanced screening process for individuals arriving to the United States from Liberia, Sierra Leone, and Guinea, an individual was identified as reporting symptoms or having a potential exposure to Ebola,” a spokeswoman for the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Tuesday night"

Political correctness and the avoidance of causing 'offence' to a protected minority will trump all other considerations, even the health of a nation.

This smells like politics.  It's a lot less damaging to the administration and the CDC if the public doesn't know they have more confirmed cases of ebola from that little gem of a country Liberia.  Even the democrats are wondering why the hell we are still accepting plane loads of refugees from that place.

Agree with what you have said, but for the life of me, I don't think even the lap dog press could keep new cases of ebola from the public till after the election.

Nurses will go to the right wing outlets (Fox-Drudge-etc) and report this, if the lame stream media dare tries to ignore it.  Even Obamabot nurses aren't going to sacrifice their lives to keep this secret.

Perhaps we need a better definition of what exactly a 'fever' is.  Is that anything above 98.6?  99.6?  100.6?

Absolutely PRAYING that Ebola envolopes DC...I'd love to see every single one of our 'representatives', 'senators', 'supremes', the fuckin' FED, and every single asshole in the 'white house' bleeding from every orifice, publically.

Won't happen, but I'd love to see it.

I'm hoping they take this disease down the hole with them.  And I'm hoping that our next generation puts 200 mile lakes over their entrances for when they pop their corks.

No point in testing them if they haven't got a fever above 99.4, just put them on a plane or cruise ship and let nature decide.

Another episode of Ebola: Are You Scared Yet.

This week we will go to beautiful Chicago and attempt to scare the masses into surrendering more rights and wealth. Can we get another sheeple to show up at the airport in a condom-suit? Tune into any propaganda outlet to find out.

And don't forget, the first lucky viewer that spots "clipboard guy" and correctly identifies his location will win a wonderful and incredible nothing. So tune in for all the FUD and quarantine hilarity that you can take, and make sure you share all the FUD around the water cooler.

If anyone, ZH is in damage control.  Stoking as much negativity and fear as possible is ZH's only hope.  Without any real Ebola stories in the last week, we get nothing but two people who are without the first and primary indicator of ebola (fever).  What ZH needs to realize is that, though most here want massive political and financial reform, there are better ways to go about it than hoping for bad things to happen.

I'd never put it beyond the stink of this government to conceal any outbreak, but the story would be too big to conceal for long in the 6th year of this President's term in office.  If nothing is reported after the election, its probably because it actually hasn't happened.........yet.

There is nothing much to conceal... yet.  The doubling time in Africa is 21 days, and if we are in that ballpark here (who knows with our mass transit and the actual transmisability of the virus), we will likely see 20 or so cases by New Year's.  Not that tough to conceal for a bit longer still.

I'm not much up on the chronology of symptoms of Ebola, but from what little I have assimilated, fever is the first symptom.  If that is, in fact true, it probably as much of a waste of time to test these two individuals as it is to test me.  I had a fever two days ago, but mine is likely more to do to an abscess.

Originating from Liberia but the CDC, a division of Pfizer, has in its infinite wisdom decided not to test them for Ebola. Hmm. Are they being given green cards and registered as Democrats? LINK cards for shopping at all the areas grocery stores while they are here? Unlimited CTA cards to spread their `wisdom' to all the four corners of the area?

Let's see... In the last week or so...

  • 2 symptomatic patients from Liberia NOT tested in IL - Governor Pat Quinn (D)
  • 2 nurses confirmed infected in TX - Governor Rick Perry (R)
  • 1 symptomatic patient from "West Africa" being tested in NJ - Governor Chris Christie (R)

Clearly, Ebola is only being identified in states with Republican governors: REPUBLICANS MUST BE RESPONSIBLE FOR EBOLA!!!

Or... In states with a Democrat governor, we may not see any confirmed cases until after the election.

Yup... We're all in this together :/

They're being tested for Ebola -- what a bunch of pathetic liars. If they're sick, they're from Liberia, and they're in isolation -- they're f'cking being tested for EBola! Duh.

It's up to the doctors who are treating them and put them in isolation and it's irresponsible and malpractice not to test them. That's how bad Chicago doesn't want to be known for having Ebola and how toxic it is to the economy and to liberal politicians.

It seems if Ebola doesn't explode into an orgyfest of fear and projectile vomiting shortly after the election we may be off the hook.  Now all we have to worry about is the collapse of our financial system and being subjugated into a nation of peasants.  Phew that was close!  I think the most important survival skill in the modern era may become stress management.

EBOLA Biological Warfare

Despite its social and scientific importance,
the origin of HIV has been clouded in mystery.
Based on the mass of circumstantial and scientific evidence,
the theory that “emerging viruses” like HIV and Ebola
spontaneously evolved and naturally jumped species
from monkey to man must be seriously questioned.
- Leonard G. Horowitz, D.M.D., M.A., M.P.H.

There can be two most obvious answers to these questions. As one can see, Ebola is a perfect biological weapon: it spreads quickly and gives nearly 100% mortality rate. Those having the life-saving vaccine can dictate any conditions to others.

The second answer is a purely commercial interest. It is enough to arrange panic with the help of the media, as it was the case with several epidemics before, such as avian flu. Afterwards, it will be possible to sell the life-saving medicine at any price.
