Putin Warns Of Risk Of Major Conflict, Says Dollar Losing Reserve Currency Status

Tyler Durden's picture

Having been relatively quiet for a while, Russia's leader Vladimir, speaking in Sochi (following meetings with Middle East crown princes who confirmed Russia as a key partner - "isolated"?), has unleashed his most aggressive statements with regard the failing world order:

  • *PUTIN SAYS U.S. DOLLAR LOSING TRUST AS RESERVE CURRENCY
  • *PUTIN: WORLD WITHOUT RULES IS POSSIBILITY; ANARCHY GROWING

Adding that the risk of major conflicts involving major countries is growing, as well as the risk of arms control treaties being violated, Putin exclaimed that the US-led unipolar world is like a dictatorship over other countries and that "US leadership brings no good for others," and calls for a new global consensus.

Having met Crown Prince Al Nahyan of Abu Dhabi in Sochi, who confirmed that Moscow “plays a very important role in the Middle East," and added that he had no doubts that his country and Russia “are bound by a privileged relationship," it appears Russia is less "isolated" than the West would have many believe.

As Bloomberg reports:

  • *PUTIN SPEAKS AT MEETING OF VALDAI CLUB IN SOCHI
  • *PUTIN SAYS WORLD GROWING LESS SECURE, PREDICTABLE
  • *PUTIN SAYS NO GUARANTEE OF GLOBAL SECURITY
  • *GLOBAL SECURITY SYSTEM IS WEAK, DEFORMED: PUTIN
  • *COLD WAR ENDED WITHOUT PEACE BEING ACHIEVED: PUTIN
  • *PUTIN SAYS COLD WAR `VICTORS' DISMANTLING INTL LAWS, RELATIONS
  • *U.S. HAS WORSENED DISBALANCE IN INTL RELATIONS: PUTIN
  • *PUTIN SAYS U.S.  ACTING LIKE NOUVEAU RICHE AS GLOBAL LEADER
  • *PUTIN SAYS WORLD LEADERS BEING BLACKMAILED BY `BIG BROTHER'
  • *U.S. LEADERSHIP BRINGS NO GOOD FOR OTHERS: PUTIN
  • *PUTIN SEES GLOBAL MEDIA UNDER CONTROL, UNDERMINING TRUTH
  • *PUTIN SAYS WEST CLOSED EYES TO INTL TERRORISM ENTERING RUSSIA
  • *PUTIN CALLS U.S. SELF-APPOINTED LEADER
  • *PUTIN: UNIPOLAR WORLD LIKE DICTATORSHIP OVER OTHER COUNTRIES
  • *PUTIN SAYS MANY COUNTRIES DISENCHANTED W/ GLOBALIZATION: PUTIN
  • *PUTIN SAYS U.S. DOLLAR LOSING TRUST AS RESERVE CURRENCY
  • *RUSSIA WON'T BEG FOR ANYTHING: PUTIN
  • *SANCTIONS UNDERMINING WORLD TRADE ORGANISATION RULES: PUTIN
  • *RUSSIA ISN'T WALLING ITSELF OFF FROM WORLD, PUTIN SAYS
  • *RUSSIA READY FOR DIALOGUE ON NORMALIZING ECONOMIC TIES: PUTIN
  • *PUTIN: WORLD WITHOUT RULES IS POSSIBILITY; ANARCHY GROWING
  • *PUTIN CALLS FOR NEW GLOBAL CONSENSUS, INTERDEPENDENCE
  • *PUTIN: CONTINUED USE OF FORCE IN UKRAINE MAY LEAD TO DEAD END
  • *PUTIN SAYS U.S. CAN'T HUMILIATE ITS PARTNERS FOREVER

Escalation? It seems sabre-rattling is picking up as The Washington Times reports,

Russian military provocations have increased so much over the seven months since Moscow annexed Crimea from Ukraine that Washington and its allies are scrambling defense assets on a nearly daily basis in response to air, sea and land incursions by Vladimir Putin’s forces.

Not only is Moscow continuing to foment unrest in Eastern Ukraine, U.S. officials and regional security experts say Russian fighter jets are testing U.S. reaction times over Alaska and Japan’s ability to scramble planes over its northern islands — all while haunting Sweden’s navy and antagonizing Estonia’s tiny national security force.

“What’s going on is a radical escalation of aggressive Russian muscle flexing and posturing designed to demonstrate that Russia is no longer a defeated power of the Cold War era,” says Ariel Cohen, who heads the Center for Energy, National Resources and Geopolitics at the Institute for the Analysis of Global Security in Washington.

“The more we retreat, the more we are encouraging Russia to behave in a more aggressive way,” Mr. Cohen said. “We need to be engaging more deeply with our Central Asian allies, but instead we are in the process of abandoning turf to Russia, and it’s wrong — it’s against our interests geopolitically to let Russia feel that they all of a sudden have won all the turf without firing a shot.”

What else is he gonna say - the Ruble to USD exchange rate was 33 to 1USD last year, today it is 42 to 1USD.  He BETTER hope that the USD will decrease in value!

I am not  a Faux News dollar hegemonist, just pointing out - Putin is still a politician.

No - there are things I agree with Putin on - but he is still a politician and prone to spinning. It might be a good idea to keep in mind that while he is standing up to EU and USA, he is in the meantime putting Russia in an inferior position with respect to the Chinese, which is not good.

At last someone speaks the truth. Un-fortunately it's difficult to hear. People in general are stuck something like 60 years behind times.  "Us leadership brings no good for others"---Yeah. and you wonder why I'm rootin for Putin. I don't want a USA incorporated world dictatorship. it's much better to have another point of view and another person, country you have to listen to. the question is, how many people are coming around to the same conclusion? What benefit derives from the drone killing run from Las Vegas.? What kind of ligitimate government kills a journalist in Yemen, for speaking the truth, and then goes back and kills his teenage son, with another drone. apparently we need somebody to tell us our government is in the control of monsters of deception and mis-directed, comic book quality, "intrigue". If he's going to do it; fine. I hope a lot of people listen to what he says.

No, I don't think so, more like one of the tribe that crucified Russia during the revolution and were the primary leaders of the slaughter both in Russia and Ukraine during the Holomodor, but we musn't speak of that. There was only ever one Genocide and to speak of any other is to denigrate the holohoax. Truly, there's no business like shoah business. Ask the Israelis, they are still panhandling the shekels from Germany. And wasn't it Wall Street, along with the Chicago boy and Harvard who, along with the US gummint, which led and facilitated the drunk Yeltsin to enable the plundering of Russian state assets by the Tribal Oligarchs, such as Berezoyski, Abramovich,  and that darling of the Western elite shabbos goys, Khordokovski, who was property jailed for his plunder, and just before he got to sell off his ill gotten gains to who else? Anarchy you say? Isn't that right up the alley of the right-wingers?

Do you like rhetorical questions?

I think I honestly know where all of the anarchists of America's past have gone - they've become Republicans. A world with no rules, no laws, no regulations. An anarchist's wet dream. Not to mention a Republican's wet dream.

I'm right. You're just going to down-vote me because you know I'm right.

Return to constitutional authorities only.  Eliminate the Departments of Education, Energy, Agriculture, the EPA, NSA, and others.  Leave the environment and education up to the states as there is way too much duplication.  Eliminate all but a very few military bases around the world and cut the DOD in half (which is one of the legitimate functions of the Federal Gov under the US constitution).  Stop all foriegn aide and interventionist policy.  Secure our borders, protect private property rights, abolish or highly cut the IRS and produce a five page or less tax code.  Term limits.  Bring back Glas-Steagal.  Stop the bail outs for the TBTF banks.  Refute all debt.  And last but not least, eliminate the Federal Reserve.

Then you'll get a government that becomes popular because it appears benevolent, at least outwardly and for a time. Been there before (e.g. the early U.S. republic). It doesn't change anything fundamental about the state, such as the blatant violation of the principle of private property when taxes are demanded, for example.

protect private property rights

You can't protect something that you are simultaneously attacking. By definition taxation violates private property rights.

If you don't deal with the core issues such as this and instead focus on things that only make the thing more efficient at what it is (the highest level organized crime organization) and look less bad, you're only making things worse in the long run for all of us. Careful what you wish...

If anything, the FED is an improvement, because it's a simple fraud that one can identify and avoid, whereas a taxing government is involved mostly in violent crime and property crime which makes it very complicated when we want to actually defend against it.

Exactly!   Strelkov remembers.  He is a White Russian and a Christian.   Russia was hijacked in 1917 by the same people who have hijacked America starting probably in 1861 then 1913 then 1964 when JFK was killed trying to abolish the Fed.

Great video with Putin. One of my favorites.  He is visiting the church where he was baptised.  A three hour midnight mass vigil during Christmas.  Show me ONE American politician doing something like this. Maybe Rick Santorum or a few others.

We are currently witnessing an unfolding geopolitical battle that will decide if this 'self-appointed big brother' will continue the established dominance. This battle is between the US/EU (aka the Tribe) and the emerging BRICS, who can provide the much needed counter-balance for this crazy big-brother rule that has been going from bad to worse in the past few decades. I feel the Iraq invasion was a particular low point that basically threw international law out of the window and made a mockery out of the UN. The Tribe is getting desperate to maintain the control that is clearly slipping away due to a number of factors. Basically what is needed is an alternative to all US-led organizations, i.e. the reserve currency, IMF, NATO etc. The BRICS (who control most of the physical assets anyway) can provide this alternative so that NO SINGLE COUNTRY IS ABOVE THE LAW.

There is fight between two evils - not west oligarchs VS some kind of BRICS who represents people and their individual rights. Just look at Putin regime and China - no respect to democracy at all.

Sure, Putin is playing by the same rules... but you cannot beat the Tribe with "democracy"... they will infiltrate and crush you from within, it has been done before and will be done again and both the Russians and the Chinese have got it figured out by now... all this talk about "democracy" is total rubbish, since this "democracy" is for the fat cats anyway, it's all about the control of resources. I repeat - no single country should be ABOVE THE LAW. Right now the USA can do whatever they want. Look at Syria and the "broad coalition" - even UK and Canada are not bombing Syria... this is a fucking joke, the USA can bomb and sanction anyone they want and nobody can do shit about it, this is not a normal situation.

1.) It's Putin regime goons that are in Ukraine attacking Ukranians - citizens and army. Here you can see Russian made tanks T-72B1 that are only in Russian army, with so called "seperatist" flags driving in city streets. Either it's Russia or Ukraine - both scenarious it prooves that Putin regime is attacking Ukranians using this banner of "seperatists". http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_d7m_Ua4wFo

2.) And in this Putin regime propoganda channel material failure  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zv39Lc5oSVs   you can see & hear two things:

2.1.) It's "separatists" who are shooting to Ukraine army from civilian houses and than run away from them - knowing that they are provoking reply fire and in that way puting civilians under danger.

2.2.) As you can hear - they are saying that Ukraine army is shooting GRAD when actually you can hear GRAD but no explosions, that means that actually it's separatists who are shooting GRAD and not Ukraine army. So here you go - these are the ones who are bombarding houses.

3.) Russian soldier mother recieve information that their sons are dead during training or from heart attack. Those who recieve bodies can't look at them and must be burried during night and must keep silence. No honor to those man. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LHE_2NTHGvo

It's a well known fact that Ukraine bought old, useless NON functioning Russian tanks not a while ago from Hungary.

I don't cheer for Putin (I undertand well enough what this guy represents), but the sad reality is that the world today needs someone like him to provide this needed counter-balance (unfortunately Ukraine is a victim of circumstances and has been cought up in this geopolitical battle), if there's no balance and the US hegemony continues unabated we will be all screwed in the long run anyway, that is pretty clear to me. Many people think that if Putin is crushed then somehow everything will be OK with the world - that is a very flawed line of thought.

I agree that there should be a ballance. But two criminal fighting to each other won't help situation.

We need an oposition that represent people - their individual rights, their freedom their resources, not another criminal oligarch regime with same tactics.

Remember - when fighting a dragon be careful not to become one. Putin regime is same evil as those other international oligarch regime. Both needed to be eliminated - now!

Yes, agreed, - but sadly I don't have much hope for any reasonable change to the "power to the people" (and all that entails, i.e. true democracy with individual rights, freedom etc.) any time soon... the American Dream is long gone, you can clearly see many Americans are actually fed up with their own criminal cabal (FED & the military-industrial complex) dictatorship. America as a great country that can lead by example is gone, the leaders that have led America over the past few decades have gone from bad to worse... this is a very sad state of affairs.

Now way Putin's regime is as evil as USA's regime. Last time I checked, Putin hadn't invaded and bombed 7 diff countries in just one year. Nor has he invented fake terrorists organizations such as Ali Queda/ISIS/ISLC to do his dirty work for him. Nor has he spent 7 trillion dollars to fight fake "wars of terror".

You are sitll just a shill who cherry picks his facts to suit him.

The truth of the matter is that the Ukrainians are unable to govern their own country... it is a total mess and has been for more than 2 decades now. Yankuovitch took it to the extreme though... and that was used by the US. Right now Ukraine is bankrupt and basically in US/EU administration whereby the US is heading the military/security and the EU is funding the rest... so basically it will be the EU that will need to pick up the tab now... the US will just be reaping the benefits, i.e. shale gas (Chevron), GMO (Monsanto) etc. Quite a good deal for that $5 bn "investment" actually...

Wait a minute, wait a minute, here. I'm willing to listen to your dissenting viewpoint and think about it; but Russia nd China ? I read books about china written by travelers there; china is a disaster. it's literally uncivilized; everyone is completely, 110% brainwashed from the state propaganda machine, there is no dissent; virtually no educated class who even knows what modern world history looks like; and you want to put Russia in the same category? Russians are freer than Americans. That's just the way it is. the evidence is overwhelming. they don't "study" .gov bullshit and call it education, they study real history. China is a complete and perfected communist dictatorship; Russia rejected its communist leadership and operating system; it is in the process of re-birth. Perhaps this has escaped you and you are locked in the past, I don't know; but you're certainly completely wrong.

I do not disagree with what Putin is saying about the past and present but discount his statements predicting future circumstances - due to his lack of action.

Talk and loud noise while backing up and away, all the way back into Russia's borders it seems.  And the fact that some world leaders are willing to meet with him and even say positive things afterwards has little weight.  Especially when it's from  Abu Dhabi.  All the big talk from Putin and partnership talk from these leaders has little follow through action.

Remember, the US visits and shakes the hand of leaders and then kills them in a couple years.

World reserve status, it is in question due to the actions of the Fed which reusults in some small reactions by countries in general but movement away is very slow.  The actions of Russia to attack the reserve status have been a lot of talk but not very effective.  And when the US attacks individual countries who align with Russia to attack the dollar, then Putin will just watch while Brazil or some other country is dismantled.

Putin should read the quote - "The more we retreat the more we are encouraging Russia to behave in a more aggressive way."  Only he should replace Russia with US and NATO.  And he should have learned that before Iraq2, Libya, Syria and so on.

Fri, 10/24/2014 - 16:02 | 5373871 SAT 800

All the conversation about the dollar losing reserve status is foolish. it's just jounalism in the worst modern sense. this is a long process and nothing significant is happening; only maybe the "end of the beginning"; but any real loss of reserve status is a long way off; and greatly to be feared, by the way; as it is the kind of thing that may provoke the control and power freaks in Washington, DC, and Virginia, to find out if they can survive a nuclear war; not an experiment I want to participate in.

I can't actually remember any example of him making any effort to improve any ones life; but let's pretend. You want to pretend that Soros and Putin are of the same criminal disposition. that's going to be a hard job. Everyone in russia knows that Putin slapped the shit out of the oligarchs, instead of co-operating with them; and the life of the russian citizen has improved as a result. Yeah, he grabbed some bucks for himself in the process, but no-one begrudges him this. George Washington was a real-estate speculator; I don't see anyone claiming that he was in a class with some notorious international criminal like Rothschild; because he also fought in the front lines to get a better life for his country; for his countrymen. If you don't understand this; then I don't think you're wisdom is very deep.

I agree with Putin that American hegemony cannot be allowed to continue

in contemporary society. American hegemony has run a course of abject ruin, war, and poverty all over the world. The time has come for cooler heads to start the discourse that will eventually lead us all back in the direction of shared superordinate goals and collective goal seeking behaviour that is not based on exclusion of the ninety nine per cent at the behest of American classless kleptocratic despot dictators in TBTF, Nail, or Jail. I, for one, think that Putin makes quite a bit of pragmatic sense compared to O'Bummer, Kerry, McCain, Soros, Geithner, Blankfein, Dimon, et cetera. Americans need to understand that the jig is up throughout the world and people are completely broke due to American hegemony on the world markets and their overarching ignorance with regard to real world mathematics proper. I love Americans of many varieties, but I will not stand back and pretend that we must move to de-Americanize the world just as the BRICS has formally stated through legislation now on the books. When the USA wants to trade fairly in the marketplace the marketplace will respond in kind. Irrationality will automatically be supplanted by that which is rational if irrationality is non-adaptive for the markets or market participants. One has expectations of success or failure on entry into markets or deals. American hegemony has quantitatively, and qualitatively changed expectations of success or failure in markets or deals since the American Government de-regulated Investment Banking to do away with Glass-Steagall. In brief, Glass-Steagall was the last straw for the world economy and Greenspan knew it all along when he engineered this race to the bottom of the world.

Yanuk was ejected by US-backed and funded elitists, backed up with ultra nationalist and neo-nazi thugs.  Crimea was autonomous, mostly ethnically Russian, and voted to RE-join Russia, as is their right under the UN Dec. of Universal Rights  {in fairness, Chechnya should have this right as well - if they *vote* for it}.

Stop being such a whiney bitch because ZH is not parroting the over-the-top, warmongering yellow journalism of an american press that is far less free than you probably think it is.

According to The Guardian, “In a country where anti-semitism is still rife and openly expressed, nationalist rabble-rousers have made much of the fact that of the seven oligarchs who controlled 50% of Russia’s economy during the 1990s, six were Jewish: Berezovsky, Vladimir Guzinsky, Alexander Smolensky, Mikhail Khodorkovsky, Mikhail Friedman and Vitaly Malkin. That fact is incontestable ..”

These oligarchs didn’t get their money from inventing companies like Facebook, or from building retail empires like Walmart. They got their money from shady and corrupt deals during the privatization of Russian government business holdings in the 90?s. The oligarchs bought businesses worth billions of dollars for fractions of pennies on the dollar. Prior to business privatization, the black market (illegal counter fitting, prostitution, sex-slavery, smuggling, and extortion rackets) was the primary means to wealth accumulation. Jewish Russians controlled the Russian mafia, which controlled the black market, and therefore they were the only Russians who could afford to bribe the bureaucrats and buy these businesses. Jewish Russians also had the ability to tap into pools of investment dollars from Israel and America, which other Russians did not have access to. So in a nation with a Jewish population that comprised less than 2% of the total population, Jewish Russians were able to control more than 50% of the total economy (excluding their control of the black market).

Translation:

Patience wearing thin, "gloves coming off"...

The tragedy is that if either France, Germany, Italy or Spain were to step forward with a very public endorsement of Russia and that the Kiev government was "patently" an Anglo-American/Israeli creation all this shit would be stopped dead in it's track!

That and tendering their resignation from "Union"!

Every bulleted Putin-point was right on the mark.  So suck on that, Cohen.

I'd rather that Cohen sucked on a 7.62X54R coming his way; but I'll settle for what I can get.
