As AP reports,

Republicans retained their House majority on Tuesday, expanding their numbers to near historic highs and giving the GOP control of both chambers of Congress.

The GOP knocked out Democratic incumbents in Georgia, West Virginia, Illinois, New York and Florida as President Barack Obama proved too much of a drag on his party in midterm elections. Republicans also claimed two open seats in New York and North Carolina.

Control of the House and Senate means an all-GOP Congress for Obama's last two years in office.

Details:

As WSJ reports,

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky won a sixth term Tuesday as his party eyes its best chance in eight years to take control of both houses of Congress.

Mr. McConnell’s win against a strong Democratic challenger marks the first big election result of the night and positions the 72-year-old as the Senate’s next majority leader if Republicans manage to wrest the chamber from the Democrats in Tuesday’s midterm elections.

Hoping to capitalize on an unpopular president and a favorable political map, the GOP needs a net addition of six seats to gain sway over the Senate.

“Victory is in the air, we’re going to bring it home tomorrow night,” Mr. McConnell said at a closing rally Monday in Louisville. “After six years of borrowing and taxing and spending and regulation, these people need to be stopped, and it starts tomorrow night.”

*  *  *

Republicans have their first pick up of the evening:

Rep. Shelley Moore Capito defeats Democrat Natalie Tennant in race to succeed 5-term Democrat Jay Rockefeller, who is retiring.

Republicans need net gain of 6 seats to take control of Senate; analysts long had seen W. Va. pick-up likely for Republicans

Capito in 2000 became the first woman Republican to represent W.Va. in Congress; she is daughter of state’s former gov., Arch Moore

AP's 5 Things To Watch For The Day After The Election... (via @NedraPickler )

SENATE RACES TO WATCH

Republicans marched steadily toward their goal of picking up six seats for control of the Senate, with a handful of outstanding races the determining factor. Democrats were looking to hold on by keeping Iowa and Alaska and hoping to pick up Georgia and Kansas. But one race won't be decided — Louisiana is heading to a Dec. 6 runoff.

OBAMA HAS SOME EXPLAINING TO DO

What word will President Barack Obama use to describe this election?
Four years ago he called his party's loss of the House a "shellacking."
Look to see if Obama follows the presidential tradition of holding a press conference the day after a midterm election. And since midterms tend to go against the party that occupies the White House, it's not usually a bright spot for presidents.

GRIDLOCK OR ACTION?

Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell delivered a victory speech vowing to turn the country around.
But then McConnell added: "I don't expect the president to wake up tomorrow and view the world any differently than he did this morning. He knows I won't either."
Obama kicks off the new era by inviting congressional leaders to the White House Friday.

GOVERNORS FROM BOTH PARTIES LOOKING TO HOLD ON

Democrats got some early good news by unseating a Republican governor in Pennsylvania, while Arkansas switched to GOP control. Key races were outstanding across the country, including Wisconsin, Kansas, Georgia, Colorado, Florida, Massachusetts, Illinois and Maine.

REPUBLICANS ON TRACK TO BUILD ON THEIR HOUSE MAJORITY

Watch to see whether the GOP can build their biggest House majority in the post-World War II era. Republicans are widely expected to grow their 234-seats beyond the 2010 tea party wave that led to 242 GOP representatives. If they can win more than 246 seats, they would exceed their numbers from 1947-49 Congress during the Truman administration.

You voted...

Your honesty is good. Your discernment needs improvement.

By voting you validated a corrupt system. You support corruption. You gave your moral support to corruption.

The choice between the lesser of two evils is still a choice FOR EVIL.

You chose evil and so shall you reap that which you have sown.

You shall lose LIBERTY and FREEDOM as a result. You are still in the Matrix and an enemy of LIBERTY.

THERE ARE NO POLITICAL SOLUTIONS. OPT OUT.

The late Dr. Stan Montieth , retired orthopedic surgeon and host of Radio Liberty out of Santa Cruz CA. stated in an interview on11/14/10 – “What is taking place in America is not happening by accident. There is an organized intentional effort to destroy the economy of our country. Now how can I make the statement? I read the plan. Where can you get the plan, It’s called the Earth Charter. It was written by Steven Rockefeller who is the nephew of David Rockefeller. And if you honestly believe that Bill Gates and Warren Buffet are the two wealthiest people in the United States why you have been reading Time Magazine too long. The real power belongs to the Rockefeller family they’ve been around for almost a hundred years. And basically the Rockefellers dominate Chase Manhattan Bank. David was the president of Chase Manhattan for many years. Now it’s J.P. Morgan Chase, they control CitiGroup, they control the major pharmaceutical companies, they control Exxon and Chevron. They control our major corporations and of course David Rockefeller’s Tri-Lateral Commission controls our government. How can I make that statement? Well you go back and read Barry Goldwater’s ---- With No Apologies…and on page 280 of that book Barry Goldwater says- You know the Council On Foreign Relations is domestic but the Tri-Lateral Commission is international. Their goal is to take over financial and commercial interests of the world by first seizing control of the government of the United States.(Barry Goldwater 1979)  What have they done since then? Well the North American chapter of the Tri-Lateral Commission which was birthed by the Council on Foreign Relations in 1973. (And the Council on Foreign relations is a front for a secret society created by Cecil Rhodes back in 1891 dedicated to taking overt control of the world.) Cecil Rhodes wanted England to control the world and to bring America along. The plan changed after the First World War where America would take over the world and bring Great Britain along. You can find this documented in a book called Tragedy and Hope: A History of the World In Our Time written by Professor Carol Quigley, a leading historian of the twentieth century. An historian who actually discovered the secret society that controls the world today. How do I know? Because I went back to Georgetown University in 1980, I went through Professor Quigley’s papers before they were censored and I found all of his correspondence with Sir Alfred Zimmern who was a member of this secret society and who told Professor Quigley all about this secret society and who was in it. And then of course in 1921 why, this secret society which had a front group called the ‘Round Table’  created the Council on Foreign Relations which then birthed the Bilderburger Group and then birthed the Tri-Lateral Commission in 1973. Of course at that time the chairman of the Council on Foreign Relations was David Rockefeller. David Rockefeller financed the Tri-lateral Commission and is the honorary chairman of the North American Chapter today. Now between 1977 and 2008 why every president and/or vice-president of the United States came from the membership roles of the Tri-Lateral Commission. Actually, six of the eight presidents of the World Bank; Eight of the ten American representatives to the World Trade Organization; Seven of the Twelve Secretaries of State and nine of the twelve secretaries of Defense all came from the membership roles of this North American Chapter of the Tri-Lateral Commission. And today twelve of these people surround Barrak Obama.

Don’t let them dissuade you. They point to Barack Obama –you know he’s a socialist. He’s a Muslim. He’s a communist. He was born in Kenya, he doesn’t have a right to be president…They are playing games with your mind. The important issue is that Barak Obama does what he is told. He is controlled by the Tri-Lateral commission. In fact General James Jones, a four Star Marine General who heads the National Security Council in a speech in February of this year (2010) at a Munich Security Conference talked about the chain of command in the National security Council   (Now remember the head of the National Security Council, General James Jones meets with Barak Obama every day and tells him what to do.) And General James Jones said we have a chain of command in the National Security Council through Brent Scowcroft and Sandy Berger and we get our orders from Henry Kissinger every daywell people don’t understand we have a one party system with two branches and it’s all political theater.”

Obamacare has nothing on the Patriot Act that they didn't read either. The NeoCons knew the elected slime would vote for anything that would make them look like they're doing something after they allowed (or pulled off) 911. Which in itself had a cover up investigation meant to promote the story the owners wanted the sheep to know.

So now we go to Rethugs running Congress and a useless Dem/Rethug-light being the CEO. I predict much fear being peddled in the future. It's the Rethug specialty. Not that the Rethug-light Dems haven't joined that party too.

Until corporate power is reined in the raping will continue.

With each "election" the compliant media, corrupt banking, mentally-ill corporate power and the for-profit health care schadenfreude should each be put on trial rather than the obscenity that is the puppet show of American two-party politics.

My voting site was chock full of surprises! Like campaign materials on the tables at multiple of the voting booths, or campaigners within less than 150 feet of the door to the site. Though it doesn't beat last year, when one of the candidates was actually in the voting site itself, not for the purpose of voting, for an extended period and in violation of state electoral law. I reported it, a misdemeanor on the books, and trust that justice MUST have run its course!

Well, I voted.  It took longer than I thought I but there was a whole bunch of local referundum bullshit to deal with regarding a tax hike for some shit no one uses around here.  They want a another half a percent on the local sales tax on top of the 7.87% they are already steal.  I scratched off some line items from some certian things and voted NO and go fuck yourself.

I was also teaching my daughter how voting works at the same time here.  Well, I put the damned ballot in the fucking Diebold machine and it rejected my ballot.  I turns out that you can't make any other marks on a ballot or it is spoiled.  So then I had to get a new ballot and fill the whole thing out all over again.  That takes up a lot of time to refill out the ballot but I did find myself with two ballots in hand.  That is pretty spooky.

I asked the daughter about the school board and she didn't know anybody so I wrote in J Alfred Prufrock just as I said I would.  I doubt anyone will catch it but I printed it clearly so per the law, they need to publish that.  That ballot went through but to me these vote counting peices of shit look like giant paper shredders.  Not only that, I cocksuckered to old ladies at the door for a couple of extra "I voted" stickers for the kids and we got them.

So I determined that "Fuck You" is not a valid vote by the vote scanner.  I think that "Fuck You" should be on the ballot with that little oval on the side that you have to fill in if you believe that to be true.  What is wrong with that idea in our "democracy"?

Why can't I write "FUCK YOU" all over your ballot and have you read it?  Because your shitty machine will not accept this ballot?  Is that not what a ballot is supposed to be?  Who makes up these ballots anyway?

+100 back Pareto.  You never can tell what you will get out of me as far as vulgarity.  I think it is a regional thing.  Yes, we do use it as a verb here in the upper Midwest.  Nice catch.  This far north we have our own ways and diction.  If you go much further north you are into Canada.  They have Ottomans up there I hear and they drink beer with mice in the bottle.  Not sure about that.

When you vote, you give your consent to abide by the decisions of a person whose only requirements for holding office are a meaningless period of residence and the ability to breathe for a certain number of years. Nine times out of ten they're going to vote to enrich themselves or their cronies. The other 10% of the time they'll throw a bone to what they consider the majority of their constituency.

It's a shame that the majority of Americans never exercise their right to write in candidates, and so we're generally stuck with one of these Dem/Rep goons, the parties which otherwise defacto guard the gates to getting your name on the ballot. Actually, my mother and many other people I've mentioned write-in's to, have not even realized you could do that. I would love if more people were aware of, and more candidates capitalized upon, the write-in, so that they would not as a first step sign up to either the Democrat/Republican party, which control their agenda.

The other thing I wish everyone would learn is jury nullification. You have an absolute right to acquit a defendant in any case as a juror on whatever grounds you please. This is a right to ACQUIT, I will add, not a right to CONVICT. I suspect a lot fewer people would be sitting excessive jail sentences if everyone knew of this power and was willing to exercise it as a juror. 10 years for sellling a little pot? For fucks sake. Also probably why, being a lawyer and knowing this shit, I am never selected for a jury and never reach the stage of even filling out a questionnaire prepared by any of the attorneys.

Wed, 11/05/2014 - 00:04 | 5413271 Harriet Wanger
Harriet Wanger's picture

See Arrow's Impossibility Theorem. Also, were a write-in candidate to actually get elected, their vote would probably be meaningless: See the Banzhaf Power Index.

Hah. I couldn't imagine a lawyer ever making it past voir dire. In any event, the concept that government cannot be trusted to convict has become so eroded by plea bargaining it's basically null and void. Even the majority of lawyers deplore this state of affairs, so you know it's bad.

I'd like to write a book, "Only the Super-Criminals can Save Us." If every scumbag would demand a jury trial, the system would grind to a halt and the bullshit laws would have to be repealed or ignored, C'mon losers, take one for the team!

I held his hand as we took him off life support jamming to Led Zepelin. True loss. It's getting better but I miss him terribly. We would have great conversations. Sure, they'll make noise about "fixing Obamacare" with tiny little changes around the fringes, but all that will happen with republicans in charge is... more of the same.
