ObamaCare Creator Admits If He Had Told The Truth "It Would Not Have Passed"

Tyler Durden's picture

Having exposed the disgraceful reality of ObamaCare's passage into law (and then apologized for being caught saying that "stupidity of the American voter" helped Congress approve the bill); a 3rd and 4th clip of the healthcare law's architect Jonathan Gruber (who Nancy Pelosi says she has never heard of despite her role in the law's birth) have surfaced... and it's not pretty. As CNN reports, the emergence of this video with Gruber repeatedly suggesting that "stupid" voters were misled for their own good by Obamacare supporters is a political problem for Obama as the Supreme Court is set to rule on subsidies.

The 3rd video...

"It's a very clever, you know, basic exploitation of the lack of economic understanding of the American voter," Gruber said at the Honors Colloquium 2012 at the University of Rhode Island.

"If you had a law which said healthy people are going to pay in -- if you made it explicit that healthy people pay in and sick people get money, it would not have passed, OK? Just like how people -- transparent -- lack of transparency is a huge advantage. And basically, you know, call it the stupidity of the American voter or whatever. But basically that was really, really critical to getting the thing to pass."

Gruber said he wished "we could make it all transparent. But I'd rather have this law than not."

As CNN reports, on a 4th video...

In this latest video, Gruber's language is not as stark as in three previous instances, but his suggestion that Obamacare proponents engaged in less-than-honest salesmanship remains.

[click image below for CSPAN link to Gruber's speech]

"Barack Obama's not a stupid man, okay?" Gruber said in his remarks at the College of the Holy Cross on March 11, 2010. "He knew when he was running for president that quite frankly the American public doesn't actually care that much about the uninsured....What the American public cares about is costs. And that's why even though the bill that they made is 90% health insurance coverage and 10% about cost control, all you ever hear people talk about is cost control. How it's going to lower the cost of health care, that's all they talk about. Why? Because that's what people want to hear about because a majority of American care about health care costs."

...

Gruber said the measures in the bill that attempt to lower costs constitute a "spaghetti approach" -- throwing everything against the wall to see what sticks. And while preferable to the status quo, Gruber said he could offer no guarantee that any of the measures would work.

"The only way we're going to stop our country from being a latter day Roman Empire and falling under its own weight is getting control of the growth rate of health care costs," he said. "The problem is we don't know how." Experts "know what the problem is," he said. "Our providers are paid enormously high. In the 1950s surgeons are middle class guys like professors...Now they live on the Hamptons, the Cape, they're like investment bankers.

Gruber said attempts to control costs in a real way were politically untenable. "The problem is if we just say, 'Look, let's just cut our spending,' well, the problem is you're going to then eat into what the rich guys are getting that they're liking. And that doesn't go so well. That's going to be pretty hard politically. That's why no one has a politically feasible way right now to bend the cost curve, it just doesn't exist." Politicians could suggest capping costs but "you wouldn't win many elections."

*  *  *
So - don't worry, they lied and deceived you for your own good and in fact costs are just rising as ever...

*  *  *
Of course, the PR team is out en masse... dismissing it as political and blaming Republicans...

Earnest insisted "it is Republicans who have been less than forthright and transparent about what their proposed changes to the Affordable Care Act would do in terms of the choices that are available to middle-class families. I know there is at least one very prominent Republican who campaigned for reelection saying that he would repeal the Affordable Care Act, but yet keep in place the Affordable Care Act marketplace that has operated very successfully in his state."

Asked about Gruber's reference to the "stupidity of the American voter," Earnest said, "I disagree vigorously with that assessment."

"The problem is that we don't know how to control the growth rate of health care costs."

BULL.  There is zero competition in health care.  You have one or two "choices" in insurance and we have the employer-based insurance system as a relic from WW2 when there were caps on salary, so employers attracted people through benefits.

Break up the government enforced monopolies and let competition drive prices down.  It's as simple as that.

Maybe, Putin.

Indeed.  For elective surgery, there has been fierce competition, and the improvements in price/performance that go with that.  No mess of financial intermediaries in there.

Excellent article and even better comments. Thank you, (mostly) sane posters.

Remember Valerie Plame? That scandal taxed the resources of the MSM for months. They obsessively covered it 24/7/365/infinity/eternity.

And what did it amount to versus IRSGate? Or BenghaziGate? Or VAGate? Sorry, I've lost my delete and backspace keys, so the question at the beginning of this paragraph should have read: And what did it objectively amount to ... (You remember objectivity, don't you? Yea, back in the day, political spin was not omnipresently the universe). The answer: PlameGate was a scandal the MSM could use against a Republican, but IRSGate, BenghaziGate, and VAGate are scandals the MSM needed to protect a Democrat from.

In comparison, PlameGate was nothing.

Yes, MSMGate, the biggest scandal of all, even bigger than GruberGate.

Their ruthlessness and callousness knows no bounds. They must figure they've won.. 2016 is make it or break it. If a Democrat is elected President, this county is dead.

Go visit the think tank where Gruber works with Zeke Emanuel, the other ACA architect that thinks we are worthless after age 75.

This is where US Heatlhcare policy is being written, they write it, HHS/CMS does it.

In contract law if one party admits that they purposely deceived the other then no meeting of the minds took place and the contract is null.   This is fraud.

Contract, law and fraud don't mean the same thing on the planet where this Act was unilaterally passed.
They are moving targets down here...and usually land on the little guy.

Yes. I have been making this point and no one is listening. Beside that fact Mr. Gruber also took 400,000 dollars in compensation through fraud from a government entity if I am not mistaken hat is also a felony.

Hiding the true nature of your bogus product in order to sell it when you fully know otherwise--that's the very definition of fraud.

And this greasy filth took $400k of tax money to perpetuate his fraud.

This cunt needs to be in club fed for quite a few years. Maybe he can teach bubba business ethics while getting his ass rehypothecated.

I dont think it was due to the stupidity of the people that this bill passed. When did we get to have a say in anything ? Even when this poor excuse of a president destroy the constiitution, even when real economic crimes are committed and not punished, the ordinary Joe just protest on the internet and NOTHING happen. We are bing ruled like animals. The only difference is that in other part of the world, they supress you in board day light. Here in the US, they just ignor you. Rather than bitching on the internet perhaps people should spend their time and effort in come up with a better system for balance and check.

This guy is so dumb he doesn't get that healthy people can turn into sick people, and therefore benefit by what has been started by healthy people who know that their health, or that of their children, are not carved in stone.

The level of stupidity of the American "elite" is really frightening.

Pelosi on Gruber: "I don't know who he is. He didn't help write our bill."

http://www.c-span.org/video/?c4514585/dont-know-didnt-help-write-bill

From Pelosi's own website, 12-1-2009:

"Opponents of health insurance reform continue to spread myths about the recently-passed Affordable Health Care for America Act. For example, they are claiming that health reform would increase premiums for most of America's families. But the facts continue to knock these myths down–including a new report from the independent Congressional Budget Office (CBO).

MYTH: The House health insurance reform bill would result in higher premiums.

FACT: An analysis of the House bill by noted MIT health care economist Jonathan Gruber concludes that the bill would result in lower premiums than under current law for the millions of Americans using the newly-established Health Insurance Exchange — including those who are not receiving affordability credits to help them purchase coverage (the Health Insurance Exchange is for those without access to affordable employer-sponsored coverage). As Gruber states:"

Blah blah blah...

If you think corrupt Allopathic Monopoly Quack Medicine is going to somehow reign in health care costs you're delusional.  With government-protected Monopoly Medicine it's all about maximizing profits and getting patients on daily "maintenance" drugs.  There's no interest in cures or cost containment.

In fact investors who have Big Pharma stock should sell ASAP because when the dollar collapses, corrupt agencies like the FDA that protect the "Standard of Care" favoring Big Pharma and all these expensive, unaffordable and dangerous "miracle" organ replacements, will probably collapse too.

Like the corrupt Fed, these are the last days of government-protected monopolies and if they had to compete with cheaper, safer and far more effective natural medicine like Homeopathy, Naturopathy or Chinese Medicine they would likely be starved for patients.

The last time the dangerous Allopaths competed in the marketplace in 1900 they could only attract 14% of patients.  The public was afraid of them and fortunately there was still a free market in medicine so they chose affordable, safe and vastly more effective natural medicine.

In the 1918 Flu Pandemic, the Allopaths lost 30% of their patients.  The banned alternative medical providers lost 1%.

Allopaths were known as the Quicks (later Quacks) for the quicksilver or mercury they poisoned their patients with.  They're still poisoning patients with toxic mercury in vaccines along with aluminum, MSG and formaldehyde embalming fluid and also with chemotherapy for cancer that's a derivative of WW1 mustard gas.

Because we allowed EU Organized Crime through their Jesuit, Zionist and Masonic agents to take over our money and medicine in 1913, we allowed the Quacks of the day, a government-protected monopoly and drove out the true healers.

The sheeple to this day still believe the myth that Ambulance Allopathic Medicine earned it's government-protected status because it's the only "proven and scientific" medicine.

Nothing could be further from the truth.  It's a vicious, cruel lie that 95% of the public not only believe, but even defend this myth.  Forget about government-protected monopolies containing costs, our hidden rulers are getting a huge belly laugh on their way to the bank.

This screechy little bitch is so radioctive at this point that he's got pretty much a zero chance of being hired by the government again.

Hopefully, he's small potatos enough that they'll throw his ass under the bus. He's dealing with people that eat their own.
