Russia To Dispatch Long-Range Bomber Patrols Over Gulf Of Mexico, Caribbean

Tyler Durden's picture

While the west is seemingly eager to once again restart the military escalation, if only in rhetoric for now, surrounding the east-Ukraine conflict, leading to a report that the "European Union and the U.S. will weigh further sanctions against Russia’s economy and Ukrainian separatists, after the reported movement of tanks, artillery and combat troops into eastern Ukraine", Russia has chosen to change track completely and give the US a dose of its own cooking, by bringing the military threat next to the borders of the US itself.

As cited by RIA and Bloomberg, yesterday Russian Defense Minister Shoigu said that "his country’s military will start conducting regular long-range bomber patrols along Russia’s borders and over the Arctic Ocean." It gets better: while Russia has repeatedly denied it has moved its own troops into east Ukraine contrary to western press reports over the past week, it is making it quite clear it will soon move bombers just off the coast of the US: the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean.

Quote Shoigu:

“In this situation, we have to maintain a military presence in the western part of the Atlantic and the eastern part of the Arctic Ocean, in the Caribbean and in the Gulf of Mexico."

RIA also adds that according to Shoigu Russian long-distance aviation flights and military preparedness has increase substantially over the past year.

So while NATO is building up its own forces along Russian borders, using even the smallest escalation in tensions over Ukraine as a pretext to send even more troops and warplanes, Russia has decided to retort in kind.

CNN adds more:

Russia plans to send long-range bombers to patrol the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean, the nation's defense minister said, amid escalating tensions with the West over Ukraine. The patrols would bring the flights close to the United States' territorial waters. In September, the U.S. intercepted six Russian planes, including fighter jets, near airspace off Alaska, officials said.

The plan to send the long-range bombers is in response to a growing international resentment against Russia, defense minister Sergey Shoigu said Wednesday.

In addition, he said, Russia will boost its security in Crimea, the region it annexed from Ukraine earlier this year.

"In many respects, this is connected with the situation in Ukraine, with fomentation of anti-Russian moods on the part of NATO and reinforcement of foreign military presence next to our border," Shoigu said.

"Under these conditions, the formation of full-fledged and self-sufficient forces on the Crimean peninsula is a priority task."

Shoigu said Russian long-range bombers will conduct flights along the Russian border and over the Arctic Ocean.

"In the current situation we have to maintain military presence in the western Atlantic and eastern Pacific, as well as the Caribbean and the Gulf of Mexico," he said. "Due to that, as part of the drills, Russian long-range bombers will conduct flights along Russian borders and over the Arctic Ocean."

So will sights like these become the norm soon in proximity to US shores? Probably not, but America's response to being in the same situation as Russia finds itself, would certainly be one to watch.

You've eloquently summed up the view one would have if s/he only read corporate, MSM news sources.

The point, my dear troll, is that one does not need to wish to wash Mr. Putin's balls to believe that the MSM narrative is a neocon/globalist/zionist distortion of the facts.

I recommend you read sites like globalresearch.ca and consortiumnews.com and voltairenet to get some balance.  You're free to form your own opinion, but few here are going to take you seriouly if you keep regurgitating talking points that look like they came out of the NYT editorial board, or from the various warmongering beltway thinktanks, most of which are staffed and led by neocon whackjobs.

And check the average yield of the warheads. The US prefers those little, accurate 10 and 20 kiloton jobs, while the Russians like those 50 and 100 megaton ones. They are old and crappy perhaps but their purpose is to function as a launch vehicle for nuclear missiles and for air-to-surface missles to take out carrier groups, fired well outside radar range. And they and their crews are expendable. Nevertheless they are easiy detected by satellites keeping an eye on air bases. So these would need to be taken out first.

This is all theatre.

Actually, they are faster, have a much longer range and can arm all kinds of lethal missiles and/or ELINT gear.

They are considerably less armored than B-29 though, and in case of being intercepted by a japanese Toryu they would be at distinct disadvantage.

I'd be willing to wager there are a small handful of submarines tasked with the bombers.

These bombers are not a threat, just a gentle reminder.

and by the way, the US is constantly sending bombers and ships close to Russian, Chinese, North Korean, and Iranian waters and airspace.  It is absolutely fucking absurd to claim Russian actions which are symbolic are a 'provocation' while US efforts to surround Russia and Iran with their latest tech - thousands of miles from the US - is not.

Which, of course, you may in fact agree with...

It's worth bearing in mind that the American people don't want war, and neither do the Russian people.  The Russian government also does not want war, and dos not want the Baltics or Georgia.

However, the US government, and the shadow government within it that calls the shot, and the neocon and ziocon think tanks, they all want to have American blood an treasure squandered for their militant, generally morally bankrupt ideologies.

The enemy of the United States is the ruling class which is manifestly disloyal to it.

And, who knows ? Maybe they are not as sensitive to EMP or electronic counter-measures as modern equipment.  BTW, does anybody know whether the following story is true ? :

"The Department acknowledged that the crew of the destroyer USS Donald Cook has been gravely demoralized ever since their vessel was flown over in the Black Sea by a Russian Sukhoi-24 (Su-24) fighter jet which carried neither bombs nor missiles but only an electronic warfare device." Anyone is free to speculate what kinds of sensors and data-gathering systems are on board these aircraft. Of course, they were originally intended to be bombers, and probably still have such capability. But Russia's long range deterrence strategy is built upon missiles, not bombers. These are reconaissance aircraft now.

The US flies reconaissance flights everywhere. The primary purpose of these flights is to detect the changes in disposition of the military forces of China, Russia, Iran and to determine what the protocols are for these nations' air defense systems to react to a military threat.

Russia is doing the same.

I wonder when the Chinese will start flying near the U.S. as they already do to various points in the Western Pacific.

Who cares?

Would anyone care to create a map of the USSA and another of Russia with path lines showing the Russian flights within 200 miles of fictional USSA territory, and the other with path lines showing USSA and NATO and ally flights within 200 miles of fictional Russian territory?

Would anyone like to take bets that the former would show a modest number of path lines, while the later has so many lines they almost obscure whatever is below them?

What a farce anyone even mentions this topic.  After all, airlines from all over the world fly directly over almost every other country on the planet.  And somehow the trouble-makers want us to care about a few flights that don't even cross the fictional nation boundaries?

Seriously?  What pointless propaganda!

Propaganda is right.  This is supposed to make Russia look "increasingly stronger" when the USSA and NATO have been flying near and over Russian airspace for years?  So to put it simply, Vlad is trying desperately to catch up.

Exactly.

This continous "I'm shocked, shocked" attitude while at the same time carefully avoiding any mention if the US does the same towards Russia is tiring.

It should fly more often and show people what a "third-world" country can produce.

I agree to those in Russia who say that we need a czar like Putin. Our country must be ruled by iron fist. Democracy and human freedom is just used as gate for NWO elite. So in order to secure our country we need to take away some freedoms, especialy freedom of speech and we have to take in control media like it's done now. Only it could be done in more strict way. I am talking about Internet - still NWO agenda can be passed to our  minds through Internet, so it must be stopped also. That's why I fully support Putin and think he realy deserv to be our leader that will protect us from NWO. I think Putin will occupy all Ukraine, Baltics, maybe Poland too. He must use same seperatist tactics there and take those countries down. It's either NWO property or Putin will make them free under it's control.

Go Putin!

The US is the sixteen yr old loudmouth Yankee bully at school who has been held back a couple of times and

takes out his frustration on 2  12 yr old boys..."chinky and ruskie".....

He taunts them and offends them while surrounding himself with weaklings who stroke his ego....

Chinky and Ruskie are not welcomed in his 'circle' of friends and instead of bemoaning this they go

and work out at the gym..

10 years later the Yankee has been partying and throwing his weight around and thinks he is

'bulletproof'....

Ruskie and Chinky have been waiting for some time now...

They are now in their prime...and will now go looking for him'....
