Ebola-Infected Doctor Dies In Nebraska Medical Center

Tyler Durden's picture

While a month ago there was non-stop newsflow surrounding any Ebola-case transfer from West Africa to the US, the newly appointed Ebola czar Ron Klain has so far shown a stunning ability to mute media reports of any ongoing developments surrounding the deadly disease.  Which is why virtually nobody was aware that on Saturday a surgeon, who contracted Ebola while treating patients in Sierra Leone, Dr. Martin Salia, 44, has been transferred to the Nebraska Medical Center which had previously successfully treated two other Ebola patients this fall. Sadly, this time it failed, and moments ago it was reported that Salia passed away from the deadly disease.

As CBS reports, after "Salia arrived in Omaha, his ambulance to the hospital was accompanied by a single Nebraska State Patrol cruiser and a fire department vehicle - a subdued arrival in contrast to the August delivery of Dr. Rick Sacra, whose ambulance was flanked by numerous police cars, motorcycles and fire vehicles." As expected, because as previously reported, Klain's main priority since ascending to the Ebola throne, has been to hush as much as possible any Ebola-related developments on US soil.

Salia had been working as a general surgeon at Kissy United Methodist Hospital in the Sierra Leone capital of Freetown. It's not clear whether he was involved in the care of Ebola patients. Kissy is not an Ebola treatment unit, but Salia worked in at least three other facilities, United Methodist News said, citing health ministry sources.

What is once again most disturing, is that Salia, a Sierra Leone citizen who lives in Maryland, first showed Ebola symptoms on Nov. 6 but tested negative for the virus. Just like the first Ebola casuality on US soil, he eventually tested positive on Monday only after his symptoms had escalated materially, leading many to wonder just what is the incidence of false negatives when testing for Ebola.

More:

The U.S. State Department said it helped facilitate the transfer of Salia; the U.S. Embassy in Freetown said he paid for the expensive evacuation. The travel costs and care of other Ebola patients flown to the U.S. have been covered by the groups they worked for in West Africa.

Salia's wife, Isatu Salia, said in a telephone interview that when she spoke to her husband early Friday his voice sounded weak and shaky. But he told her "I love you" in a steady voice, she said.

The two prayed together, and their children, ages 12 and 20, are coping, Isatu Salia said, calling her husband "my everything."

Sierra Leone is one of the three West Africa nations hit hard by an Ebola epidemic this year. Five other doctors in Sierra Leone have contracted Ebola, and all have died.

Our condolences to Salia's family as we now revert to the near-media blackout surrounding any future Ebola cases on US soil, and await imminent (well-paid) studies from Dr. Jonathan Gruber how there is nothing at all to be concerned about regarding Ebola.

"No, dear, I just heard a report on NPR that no cases have been detected in the last month. Maybe it was a drive-by shooting. I'll go and see if Mrs. Jones needs any help, poor dear."

Nebraska? WTF

Nebraska is one of only four locations in the U.S. equipped to handle Ebola patients.  I've identified these locations upthread.  Or you could Google the issue and educate yourself.

Has any White MD died from ebola?? Wait there is no difference between races and in fact race is merely a SOCIAL CONSTRUCT.

Maybe the family will make out as good as the Dallas African:
We Saw This One Coming – Ebola Guy’s Family Gets Settlement from Dallas Hospital

To review–an Ebola patient knowingly entered the country and demanded treatment at a hospital despite not being American and not having insurance. He received a half million dollars worth of treatment before he died. His family than sued, charging that the hospital didn’t care if he died because of racism. They quickly settled, waived the cost of treatment, provided enough money to “provide” for his parents and children and will transfer medical resources away from this country into Liberia.

Why? Because of white privilege.

I love your racial hatred and manipulation of facts. They sued for malpractice because the hospital sent him home after they misdiagnosed his illness despite his reporting he was just in Africa.

I don't agree that anybody who has Ebola  should just jump on a plane and fly to america for treatment, but lets not turn it into a racial rant.

it was just a medical fuckup and they paid for it just like when they fuckup on a white person.

No sense race baiting, though apparently you live for an opportunity to slant the world through you inverted racist views.

He's black, he died, his family got money, it must be racism. Boy that's a simplistic outlook.

Yep. First case of Ebola in the US and it should have been caught. You can never miss a diagnosis or it's racism and malpractice. You're a tard. The early symptoms of ebola mimic viral gastroenteritis which is about 5 million times more common. But, it was an easy diagnosis and the majority of community physicians would have made the diagnosis so this doc missed the standard of care. Now, let's pay off his family.

Thank you for being a programmed tool. Obama's ineptitude has nothing to do with his color.

But thank you for showing us your inability to think, understand and effectively communicate, unless of course you are paid to incite people on forums as a government employee, in which case you are earning your pay well and cheating the tax payers out of the fruits of their hard earned labors once again.

Obama is incompetent, Obama is black (or half black to be exact), the two facts are not relevant to each other, you effictively destroy your own argument by articulating such tripe.

Perhaps it has nothing to do with race but only that people of European descent may be more resistant to it after thousands of years of fighting off diseases such as the Boubonic plague.

I suppose, but in this case the only difference came about because of location and exposure to disease, nothing inherently different in the races.

you obviously don't know a whole lot of people who don't look exactly like you.

we all bleed red, we all want to be happy. we all want to be free to live our lives.

The color of someone's skin doesn't influence how they talk, dress or act, however their culture does influence such things.

A black man raised in Sweden is much different than a black man raised in Nigeria, though they may share a skin color.

Until you learn to judge people for who they are instead of how they look you will throw away a lot of good people who could help you and make your life better.

You should get out more and try to make friends outside your comfort zone. When you lash out at others you are compensating for a lack within.

I was a racist until I lived with other people. I grew up in a 99.999% white area. I feared black people because I didn't know them. i got beat up by blacks, but i got punched up by some whites too.

I learned its not the color of the fist thats important. I have some great black friends that have taught me a lot about life and the world, I thank God I didn't turn away from their friendship, it has made me a better man.

Don't live life blind, live life color blind.

"where do you draw the line at racial purity?"
How about we end forced assimilation both culturally and genetically of all western nations immediately. Enough of the open boarders we have to take all the worlds refugees policy currently in place in Europe N America, Australia ect. Sweden, which you obviously know nothing about, is a perfect example of the multicultural train wreck that others like yourself push so hard through the meme of " they are just like us only a different color. Fully 60% of Swedens welfare budget goes to immigrants and in turn 80% of her prison population is of foreign origin.
"Assholes come in every color." There is a distinct difference between being a asshole and criminal behavior. Unfortunately some races are genetically predisposed more than others in this regard as the prison population in any western nation can attest to that has any significant southern hemisphere emigrants.

Now it'sobvious you have never been to Sweden whereas I know it very well. Nigerians in Sweden, and the place is swamped with them, behave like Nigerians everywhere. And that behavious is not nice.

Sure we all bleed red, but so do armadillos. And it's not the color of our skin that makes us different. Our skin represents just one element of the evolutionary process that has made Swedes - and Nigerians -  what they are today.  And that is almsot two different species.

A nigerian can still impregnate a swede quite easily.  Still squarely in the middle of "same species".

Unfortunately you are correct about the impregnation part. However, the different species of the domestic dog and the wolf can breed and have viable offspring. And I do believe that you can tell the difference between a Negro and caucasian by skeletal structure and cranial capacity.

Em, what's your point again?

OK.  My point is that, in general, "species" is defined as that group which can interbreed and produce fertile offspring (note that mules are not fertile).  In general, Group B is defined as a different species if it cannot breed with Group A.  Beyond that, there are more specific criteria brought into play in labeling "species".  But, it is generally recognized that defining species more specifically than "can interbreed" is a difficult and inexact science.

OK, so let's say that I am a doctor.  I am treating Ebola patients.  I should know what the symptoms are.  I start to exhibit them myself, so I submit a sample for testing.  Hmmm, negative - I must be OK then, right?   RIGHT?  But, ohhh, I feel worse today.  Surely I don't have Ebola.  Right?  Well, let's take another test.  Uh oh.  AT that point I start to worry about my own well being, and don't really consider how many other false-positives I may have sent out the door.

Good riddens. I hope all those who go to Africa trying to stop the spread of ebola follow him. We should be doing everything possible to spread ebola through all the grotesquely disgustingly massively over-populated human shit holes, especially latin america, so they die there instead of coming here.
