WASHINGTON (MarketWatch)—Faced with an increasing number of White House intrusions that led to the resignation of a Secret Service director, a congressman on Wednesday suggested that maybe a moat should be erected around the president’s home.
The suggestion was made by Rep. Steve Cohen, a Tennessee Democrat, at a House Judiciary Committee hearing.
With hand gestures, Cohen suggested a moat roughly six-feet wide may be “attractive” and “effective.”
Joseph Clancy, the acting director of the Secret Service, didn’t dismiss the suggestion out of hand.
“Sir, it may be,” he said. Clancy said the Secret Service and the National Park Service were discussing ways to ensure security along with access to the White House for the American people.

I always thought of Socialism and crony capitalism as monarchy by committee anyway.
There is no practical difference between any political system. They're all bound, and subject to, the underlying economic system. The political system can only operate with the fruit of the economic system, despite all of its efforts to exist otherwise.
The strangest part is... there isn't much practical difference between the economic systems either... at least not over any reasonable period of time, nor for the vast majority of people.

Machoman - I disagree. There is a big difference between Republics and Monarchy. The concept of a Republic is justice, no one above the law. The country was corrupted by lawmakers that were bribed to allow private banking (and foreign based at that) to control issue of the nations currency. Once that is in place, being above the law and devolving back to Monarchy was inevitable.
Why did you think that the founders railed against private banking or Andrew Jackson or Lincoln or Kennedy?
A new Republic would have better brakes to the system, perhaps five branches. Frankly 535 representatives for 300 million people is far too easy to buy off. Try 10,000 next time. My great uncle worked in Washington DC in the early 1930's. At the time, he said there was no fence around the White House, and you could actually approach the door (you would be stopped and questioned by Secret Service though)
It was also not uncommon to see the Vice President out to lunch at local restaurants or pubs with his staff.

I think John Adams remarked that, in Massachusetts, often when a City issued regulations and taxes too oppressive, citizens would just leave and go live with the Indians, and so the City would have to relax the regulations and taxes, or lose money.

Feudalism is FAR more scary & dangerous, because it lasted > 1,000 years (in Europe).
I contend that a class of people that was as rich, powerful, organized and had the mindset of "divine entitlement" to rule, was not going to go away quietly. They may have been overthrown ~ 100 years ago, but they did not just "fade away and died". They went underground (into Gentleman Clubs and Secret Societies) and collaborated & colluded with Banksters, so they could rise again. And rise they did -- under the times and regime of GHW Bush (Sr), starting in 1980.
And Banksters prefer Feudalism over ALL other forms of governance -- as it provides a perpetual stream of Income and entitlement lifestyle for them and their political-military masters, for multiple generations, not just multiple years. Which explains also why the Elite have good relations with global Monarchs, no matter how bad they are (e.g. Saudis). The Elite do not want Revolutions caused by non-Elite, i.e. by someone from the Masses. They have time-limited or no use for 'Plebs' like Fidel Castro, Saddam Hussein, Muammar Gaddafi, or Vladimir Putin. They prefer the like of the Shah of Iran, King Abdullah of S.A., the King and Queen of Jordan*, the Kings and Queens of Europe and Japan. They also prefer Useful Fools/Tools like Prime Ministers and Presidents, who effectively do the dirty work for them, and take the blame and fall, while they stay in the Shadows of Power.
