Having quietly got married this weekend, the 28-year-old Ferguson police officer Darren Wilson - who fatally shot unarmed black teen Michael Brown in August - will discover shortly after 5pmET today if he will stand trial for Brown's death after the grand jury verdict is released by the St.Louis prosecutors office. As Brown's lawyer previously noted "ninety-nine percent of the time the police officer is not held accountable for killing a young black boy," Crump said. "The police officer gets all the consideration." Dragging the decision out over the weekend has some fearing it has merely stoked tensions, and protests have already been arranged for later this evening. Police, as we previously noted, are prepared; and the White House has reiterated their call for calm. After-school activities in Ferguson have been cancelled (somewhat suggesting the outcome is not what Ferguson residents are hoping for).

AUG. 9 — Brown and a companion, both black, are confronted by an officer as they walk back to Brown's home from a convenience store. Brown and the officer, who is white, are involved in a scuffle, followed by gunshots. Brown dies at the scene, and his body remains in the street for four hours in the summer heat. Neighbors later lash out at authorities, saying they mistreated the body.
AUG. 10 — After a candlelight vigil, people protesting Brown's death smash car windows and carry away armloads of looted goods from stores. In the first of several nights of violence, looters are seen making off with bags of food, toilet paper and alcohol. Some protesters stand atop police cars and taunt officers.
AUG. 11 — The FBI opens an investigation into Brown's death, and two men who said they saw the shooting tell reporters that Brown had his hands raised when the officer approached with his weapon and fired repeatedly. That night, police in riot gear fire tear gas and rubber bullets to try to disperse a crowd.
AUG. 12 — Ferguson Police Chief Thomas Jackson cancels plans to release the name of the officer who shot Brown, citing death threats against the police department and City Hall.
AUG. 14 — The Missouri Highway Patrol takes control of security in Ferguson, relieving St. Louis County and local police of their law-enforcement authority following four days of violence. The shift in command comes after images from the protests show many officers equipped with military style gear, including armored vehicles, body armor and assault rifles. In scores of photographs that circulate online, officers are seen pointing their weapons at demonstrators.
AUG. 15 — Police identify the officer who shot Brown as Darren Wilson, 28. They also release a video purporting to show Brown robbing a convenience store of almost $50 worth of cigars shortly before he was killed, a move that further inflames protesters.
AUG. 16 — Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon declares a state of emergency and imposes a curfew in Ferguson.
AUG. 17 — Attorney General Eric Holder orders a federal medical examiner to perform another autopsy on Brown.
AUG. 18 — Nixon calls the National Guard to Ferguson to help restore order and lifts the curfew.
AUG. 19 — Nixon says he will not seek the removal of St. Louis County prosecutor Bob McCulloch from the investigation into Brown's death. Some black leaders questioned whether the prosecutor's deep family connections to police would affect his ability to be impartial. McCulloch's father was a police officer who was killed in the line of duty when McCulloch was a child, and he has many relatives who work in law enforcement.
AUG. 20 — Holder visits Ferguson to offer assurances about the investigation into Brown's death and to meet with investigators and Brown's family. In nearby Clayton, a grand jury begins hearing evidence to determine whether Wilson should be charged.
AUG. 21 — Nixon orders the National Guard to begin withdrawing from Ferguson.
SEPT. 25 — Holder announces his resignation but says he plans to remain in office until his successor is confirmed.
SEPT. 25 — Ferguson Chief Tom Jackson releases a videotaped apology to Brown's family and attempts to march in solidarity with protesters, a move that backfires when Ferguson officers scuffle with demonstrators and arrest one person moments after Jackson joins the group.
OCT. 10 — Protesters from across the country descend on the St. Louis region for "Ferguson October," four days of coordinated and spontaneous protests. A weekend march and rally in downtown St. Louis draws several thousand participants.
OCT. 13 — Amid a downpour, an interfaith group of clergy cross a police barricade on the final day of Ferguson October as part of an event dubbed "Moral Monday." The protests extend beyond Ferguson to sites such as the nearby headquarters of Fortune 500 company Emerson Electric and the Edward Jones Dome in downtown St. Louis, site of a Monday Night Football game between the St. Louis Rams and the San Francisco 49ers.
OCT. 21 — Nixon pledges to create an independent Ferguson Commission to examine race relations, failing schools and other broader social and economic issues in the aftermath of Brown's death.
NOV. 17 — The Democratic governor declares a state of emergency and activates the National Guard again ahead of a decision from a grand jury. He places the St. Louis County Police Department in charge of security in Ferguson, with orders to work as a unified command with St. Louis city police and the Missouri Highway Patrol.
NOV. 18 — Nixon names 16 people to the Ferguson Commission, selecting a diverse group that includes the owner of construction-supply company, two pastors, two attorneys, a university professor, a 20-year-old community activist and a police detective. Nine of its members are black. Seven are white.

MOU - you should resent the Ivies. I say this as a graduate of one. However, my experience there was "I should not be here". I am a kid from the midwest who worked for everything in life and took a long road to finally get into law school at an ivy in the end of my 20s. Basically, these schools are for the children of the elite to rubber stamp their unearned privilege and power - to take crony elevation in society. These schools are also for some genuine folks and immigrants, but mostly they shut down their reactions to the oppressive power and salivate at the chance to shut up and do what they're told to collect a big paycheck and piece of that oppressive society.
No one has solutions because these institutions (as well as the high schools in rich neighborhoods) are basically part of a break-away elite culture. They have no interest in actually providing solutions. They have interest in managing the plebs - hence the nonsense right and leftwing distraction politics that are fed to and come out of these institutions.
I've always been a rebel and knew these about theories about how we're being ruled by the elite, but then I went to school with them and had them invite me into their halls and special clubs. It's chilling - we need to overthrow these institutions at their core.

At the height of the crack epidemic in Philly during '87 and '88, my ucnle was a homicide investigator and the city didn't get a shit if some black kid killed another black kid as long as it wasn't a multii-homicide, invovled victims over 18, and wasn't in a part of town that had high drug traffic and violence. Clearance rate on those cases was appauling because there was little resources applied to these cases (often just a single homicide detective who was working multiple cases already) and minimal logistical support besides basic autospy and limited ballistics. Little/no forsenics and unless they had an eye-witness to the shooter or someone they could 'roll up and roll over' on a lesser degree these crimes never went solved and no resources are assigned to working cold homicide cases because no one gives a shit about working some old narotics killing where a black kid got killed 10-15 years ago.

These cases always bring out the worst among us. Also makes some lose their ability to reason logically. According to the evidence the prosecutor laid out, Wilson was justified in this shooting. At least as a matter of police protocol. Sounds like he followed his training to the letter.
But this is where the debate should be. Do we want the police to be so quick to shoot? Where is the line between officer safety and public safety? Is there an effective....effective non-lethal solution? If so why don't they use them? Why does it seem that there are far more police shootings now than in decades past? Or is that just a false perception? Some claim that the newer generations are much quicker to shoot. If Williams had a partner is it more likely that Brown would be alive today? If you're alone, a scuffle with a suspect could end very badly for you or a bystander. In this case it ended bad for Brown. Is race a factor? If you're stuck on race is always a factor or never a factor you are both probably wrong.

I think the attitude of either rage or he had it coming really misses the point which is what is police protocol for use of deadly force and can we avoid some, some of these incidents with the use of non-lethal technologies and possibly old fashioned police partners. Although in the days after Brown was shot there was an angry citizen in St. Louis who decided he would be a martyr. He shoplifted at a convenience store and when the police didn't show he went back in shoplifted in plain view...again went back outside to wait on them. Minutes later police show up...two of them and the man jumped onto a wall waving a knife at the officers. Seconds later multiple shots rang out killing the man in front of multiple witnesses. It was justified but if they had used non-lethal he'd be a dumb ass in jail instead of a dead dumb ass. I just don't understand why we can't have the police use non-lethal weapons considering the technologies available to them.

Myself and two friends were attacked in the middle of nowhere some years ago. A group of 8 teens looking to hurt someone, anyone, happened upon us. They had baseball bats and assorted blunt heavy instruments. I was armed, my two friends were not. They surrounded us claiming we insulted their women or some nonsense. I knew what was happening and began to draw and chamber my weapon when I was struck in the head with a tire iron from behind. At the time I didn't realize I was surrounded as it was dark. My weapon was ready to fire at this point. Then I saw one person in front of me and sensed more around me. I saw no weapon in his hands and was ordering him to back off with my weapon about a foot and a half from his head, hammer back ready to fire. This did not dissuade this person. He even tried to antagonize me. "Oh you gon' shoot me". I could taste blood as my nose had been broken. The back of my head tingled and felt wet. Turns out I was actually struck twice, ounce with the tire iron and a bottle to the face. Probably near simultaneously and all while I was chambering my weapon. Now my weapon is pointed at his head at pretty much point blank range. I did not see a weapon in his hands and I'm ordering him to back off. He reaches behind his back to his waste band and I decided to fire. I decided to aim for his leg. Fire shot out of that weapon briefly lighting both our faces. Somehow, in the dark the bullet struck his leg and he backed up twirled around and fell. At this point I realize there is a young woman screaming at me from a few feet away. Screaming about having a miscarriage or some craziness. Apparently she was pregnant. I am still barking orders as I realize I don't know where my friends are. I am now hearing more voices and seeing more people. I could see the various weapons they had as their backs were to the light. One was beckoning me to put the gun down and fight them "fairly". I answered with a couple of warning shots above their heads. They scattered. I drove my two friends and the one with the wound to the leg to the hospital about 30 miles away. My two friends had multiple fractures and severe concussions. I had a severe concussion and a broken nose. The asshole I shot was lucky as the bullet did not hit bone. He just walks with a limp now.
It's true what they say about situations like this...everything slows down. I was able to remain focused and made a conscious decision to aim for the leg. I decided not to end this punks life. But of course I broke all the rules and deviated from my weapons training. Had I missed this story might have been very different which is why police officers train the way they do. It's easy to make judgments about what you would do or what this police officer should have done but you truly cannot know what it's like to make those split second decisions until it happens to you. Quite frankly, myself and my two friends were lucky it turned out the way it did. For that matter, so were the dip shits who thought we were easy targets.

Grand jurors normally hear just a condensed version of the evidence that might be presented at a trial, but in the Ferguson case, grand jurors received more extensive evidence and testimony. They heard 70 hours of testimony and interviewed 60 witnesses--including Wilson and three medical examiners. The grand jury could determine only whether probable cause exists to indict Wilson, not whether he is guilty. If the jury had returned an indictment, a separate trial jury would have been seated to decide whether to convict or acquit him.
Why did they release their findings now? Most likely political pressure? No doubt Eric Holder and the Obama administration needed something new to distract the public from Obama's unilateral amnesty for millions of illegals last week along with all of the other scandals? Thanks, I was aware of that. The virtual exact equivalent in the UK is the "CPS". But unlike the grand jury, the CPS often take forever to announce a decision in such cases, for the reasons I stated - and this is usually exactly what the political elites want: delay delay delay to get it off the headlines. This appears to work for them as it defuses public anger and shuts down debate. By the time they make an announcement, half the population has already forgotten what it was about(!)

This case was not the one for the public to use to demand police reform. A more clear cut case, in my mind, was the 12 year old who was shot 2 days ago, because he had an airsoft gun in his waste band. The cop admits that the child (12 years old) didn't point the gun at him, or act aggressively, but simply didn't follow orders. Problem is, that in that situation, the police give conflicting orders simultaneously, and expect a 12 year old to act like a robot. I'm sure the boy meant to show it was an airsoft gun, or he probably didn't even have to time to think before the bullets started flying. A more rational approach by the police, if they really felt threatened by a pre-teen, would've been to stand off 50 feet, and use a little bit of common sense before shooting.
