MassMutual Senior Vice President Found Dead, Stabbed In Chest In Apparent Homicide

Tyler Durden's picture

A week after stunned Tribeca woke up to news of a grizzly death in which a Citigroup managing director living on Greenwich Street was found dead in his bathtub with a slashed throat and the lack of a suicide weapon on the scene suggesting there was foul play involved, another banking executive was killed over the weekend, when 54-year-old Melissa Millian, a senior vice president at MassMutual, was found lying in a road in Simsbury, Connecticut, having been stabbed in the chest.

As CBS reports, initially there was speculation Millian may have been in a bicycle accident, or may have been the victim of a hit-and-run.  However on Saturday, the office of the Chief State Medical examiner said the cause of her death was a stab wound to the chest, and the manner was homicide.

According to WCVB, Millan, a mother of two, was a senior vice president at MassMutual in Springfield. A spokesman for the company said she was a tremendous leader and deeply caring and that she would be missed.

Passing motorists found Millan lying on the ground Thursday at 8:04 p.m., according to Simsbury police.

Police said she could have been out jogging but that they did not yet know what happened and are investigating. Millan was taken to St. Francis Hospital where she died, according to police.

Police announced Saturday they were investigating the incident as a homicide.

As Breaking911 further adds, MassMutual was shocked by the news, with a company spokesperson saying that "Melissa’s tremendous leadership qualities, business acumen and deeply caring nature will be missed by those who had the opportunity to work with her."

Friends, who gathered to pay their respects, said Millan was a dedicated athlete and an incredible mother.

“Devastated…shocked and angry. That a woman, such a woman’s life, could have been ended so senselessly and so cruelly,” said friend Lynne Tapper.

According to MassLive, people using the popular bike path that runs through the town said they were shocked to hear someone as stabbed to death along the trail which they consider safe.

The path is connected to a series of linked bikeways that start in Westfield and head south, running though most of Connecticut. It is popular with Western Massachusetts residents.

Sunday several people stopped at the memorial to mourn the death of the woman who was known as a triathlete as well as a parent and a skilled professional. They declined to talk to the media. A vigil was held earlier on Sunday in Farmington sponsored by Team Training New England.

The organization's website called Millan an "an extraordinary human being" and set up a memorial page for her.

"Melissa has been a pillar of the TTNE community since she first trained with us in 2006. Regardless of her formidable responsibilities at home and at work, she made every effort to mentor 'newbie' triathletes and provide moral and other support to her team members year in and year out, without fail!" the website said.

People who use the path said it is well-lit and there are always people walking or driving by.

"I was very surprised," said Donna Morris, of Simsbury, who was walking her four-month-old mixed breed dog at dusk Sunday. "I walk here sometimes and I haven't had a problem."

The path runs along Iron Horse Boulevard, a divided roadway with plenty of traffic. The memorial was set up less than 20 feet from a popular playground which was filled with children and their parents Sunday afternoon. Behind the playground is a dog park that is also popular. Across the street from the playground is a group of shops.

"It looks like someone would have seen something," Morris said. Tonia Kagan, of West Hartford, reacted with shock when she learned the bouquets had been placed there to remember Millan.

"I love this path," she said. "My husband is in the dog park now. It is a lovely place." She likened Simsbury to West Hartford, saying it is usually peaceful and violence is rare.

"I use this path a lot and I'm shocked and surprised...I always feel very safe," said Lucinda, who declined to give her last name.

Was this another targeted murder in an otherwise sleepy neighborhood, and if so, what was the motivation to take out a mother of two and active member of the local community? The police investigation is ongoing.

From a reactionary point of view, she'd fall squarely in the same group of parasites as bankers and politicians.  There aren't enough security and police to protect these people should somebody (that has nothing left to lose) decide to twist off and get their pound of flesh.

It probable has noting to do with the 16-20 other banker deaths.

But as it is  murder, and nice people are at risk of wisleblowing, Does "Protection product management division" have risk exposure to any possible Ebola outbreak. Not saying there is one just if the new Ebola Czar has been getting Doctor/Hospital/Insurance companies (Live insurance would take a huge hit), to keep quite along with the media what is the liability.

I have long amazed and wondered at the American passivity in the face of mass financial crime, manipulation fraud, open theft, lies and lack of regulatory enforcement. The transfer of wealth is well documented and the government's role in it is also well proven.

Yet, in face of all this, not one American has gotten angry enough to "act out" in a vengeful or criminal way against the known perpetrators. While I in no way advocate criminal acts, that does not prevent me from being amazed at the fact that none have occured. Nothing by way of revolutionary activity or simple one man's crusade for revenge. All is quiet, and those who did the deeds, and won all the gold and cash , are now on a luxury spending spree in New York, LA, London and across the financial centers.

So, I wonder, is someone going to snap and act out? I recall the revolutions in Europe, when all wealth was transfered into the hands of a tiny minority, sooner or later there were people revolting. But no matter how clear the theft and fraud, no matter how many people lose jobs and homes, no matter how high the debt, we average Americans stick to the rules and play the game as schools and media lay it out to us. We, no matter fraud by the elites, still blame ourselves for any failure and take it to heart when told to pull ourselves up by the bootstraps. Maybe that was all good in it's day, before all markets were frauds, congress was bought off, and bankers bailed out.

Still, not one shred of evidence that any American is going off the rails, and acting out. How much longer can media and our schools brainwash people to blame themselves for NAFTA, GAT, The NWO, The Patriot Act, Fed Policy, Bribery of Congress, and a liar President? Passive is the word I would use to describe even the most beaten down American.

In any given revolution, you can expect 85% of the people to do NOTHING. The whole game is determined by the last 15%...and that group consists of those both FOR and AGAINST the revolution.

There ARE people 'acting out.' Look at the Bundy ranch episode. Just no one has started wholesale killing.

I fear that is not too far off in the future; things are undeniably worse now and will not be getting better.

The thing is - this woman worked in insurance.  Many of the people killed were super low level.  I'm not aware of anyone like a Madoff being killed, and it seem ZH scours the news for any car accident involving some 'vice president' - a title devolved to meaninglessness - to generate click bait for a non-story.

I mean it's a sexy fantasy.  But this woman was basically just a pleb, if upper middle class.  She's no Madoff - who only went to jail because of "who" he fucked over:  Thou shalt not steal from your fellow Jew....

Well, there's Corzine, but he's not exactly breaking rocks along the train tracks for life, is he>?

We're assuming that minions are getting whacked by outsiders, Joe 6-pack out on the street.  What if the deed was done by somebody in the organization?  "It's nice to work here, but the retirement plan is sheer MURDER."

These minion deaths sound like something from the mafia.  Didn't somebody way back when write histories of the links between organized crime and financial institutions?  When the mafias want to look legit, they buy banks and insurance companies.  The Sopranos is soooo 20th century . . .

Occupy Wall Street was significant acting out IMHO. The CIA had a plan to assassinate the Occupy activists that were leading the demonstrations so I would not be too judgemental with regard to ordinary Americans not wanting to be caught in any crossfire the CIA/FBI might have going on on the side, eh. What with the Police State and all why would anyone want anyone to stick their neck out merely to get assassinated? Let the Banksters jump from the roof tops of investment banks for a while allright allready for cryin' out loud. These

institutional suicides make for good reading IMHO and the jokes are

worthy of a few chuckles once in a while. Why ruin a good thing by watching innocent American activists harmed by Police State thugs

This case seems rather strange compared to many of the other banker deaths.

It must be remembered however that despite the high pay etc of bankers, these people live with great stresses and demands in their life. They accumulate enemies and competitors within their own class and often they lead double lives either because they are having affairs or they have gambling or drug habits. Perhaps they have stolen money from their employer or are about to be discovered having taken bets that have gone awry. Anxiety can set in and sometimes it tips them over the edge.

Perhaps they know that they will be ruined and decide to kill themselves (clearly not the case here) because an insurance payout will at least shield their family from utter ruin.

The possibility that they are being eliminated for insurance purposes or to stop them from talking remains a possibility but until at least one such case is proven it can only remain in the realm of conjecture.

Whether these people are decent or whether they are rat bags, we must still realise they have families who for the most part will be suffering emotional and financial stresses.

This is all part and parcel of a sad, stressed and wicked world.

What really strikes me about this article, aside from the horror of innocent wildlife deaths, is how complacent everyone in this story is. This is an area where they all felt "safe".

More than anything, it reminds me of the happy, carefree people reveling in the shadow of Pompeii even as the earth rumbles and the plumes boil out of the mountaintop. Merely an interesting spectacle put on for their amusement.

It is true that I also sought out an area where I feel safe from random crazy people bristling with knives and guns. Or, to put it another way, I now call them my neighbors rather than invaders into my bubble world.

Not saying that this is related to this story, but it sure seems that those who get killed/suicided are those who have taken the benefits of being inside the system and then do not live up to their part of the demon's bargain.

At ZH it is. It adds to the intrigue of the narrative.

As a banker myself I know that the life insurance companies do a lot of "banker like" activities, but I can't find the referenced LinkedIn page to get more specifics regarding her job description.  Can anyone else find this?

I notice how these banker deaths are all by unusual methods and circumstances that leave little forensics. No traceable bullets, gunpowder residue, fingerprintable objects, video survealance absence, crime scenes that are unlikely, improbable, or impossible.

Especially obvious that it's riff-raff street crime when it's a blatant robbery where nothing is stolen.

If only the criminal government in CONnecticut hadn't disarmed the populace. She could have lived to tell about it. Well at least until the FBI showed up and finished off the failed low level thug hit

There is a noticeable uptick in murders lately

I'm surprised we got a murder allegation with this one. What is wrong with the "stabbed herself in the chest with a knife in the park" meme? It worked with the nailgun.

But how many times? It can't be ruled a banker suicide unless there's a minimum of 5 stabs in the back clearly by her own hand.

Target was killed by a single, well placed stab wound to the chest. Looks like a pro hit designed to look like street crime. Unless the husband was ex miitary, this was a pro killer.

This is what happens when you spread the message to "kill all the bankers". Some loonie on ZH starts killing all the bankers. And where would you find bankers but in Ct.

There are quite a few sick fucks trolling ZH today.  This lady was murdered.  Could have been your wife, mom, or sister.  Have some respect.

I agree.

Someone actually died here, unlike like that made-for-TV bullshit in Newtown, CT almost two years ago.

Could have been the concern troll, waggin his finger and tut-tutting the lesser unsophisticates.

I have to say this at least once a month it seems.  The adults are busy reveling in others misery, son, so be quiet and go play.
