And The Award For "Americans' Favorite Government Agency" Goes To...
Submitted by Simon Black via Sovereign Man blog,
Gallup recently conducted a poll asking Americans to rate thirteen of the most visible agencies/quasi-agencies of the United States government.
These included:
- US Postal Service (USPS)
- Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI)
- Central Intelligence Agency (CIA)
- Department of Homeland Security (DHS)
- National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA)
- Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)
- Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA)
- Food and Drug Administration (FDA)
- Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)
- Secret Service
- Internal Revenue Service (IRS)
- Federal Reserve Board
- Veterans Administration (VA)
[Curiously the Social Security Administration wasn't on the list.]
Gallup asked the survey participants to rate each one of the agencies as excellent, good, fair, or poor.
Now, you can probably imagine that few people are going to rate the IRS particularly highly. But of the 1,020 random adults who participated, the most favorably viewed agency was…
The United States Postal Service.
Think about that for a moment.
The USPS’s own balance sheet shows a negative equity of MINUS $44 billion.
They lost $2 billion in the last quarter alone, their net loss so far this fiscal year is a whopping $4.1 billion, and they continually suck taxpayer funds into a never-ending black hole.
In fact, the United States Postal Service ranked dead last in terms of potential revenue growth when compared to 24 other postal agencies around the world according to a study published by global consulting group Accenture.
And according to the American Customer Satisfaction Index, Americans find banks, utility companies, and even some airlines to be easier to deal with than the US Postal Service.
And yet, despite all of this, Americans still prefer the US Postal Service to nearly every other government agency.
This pretty much tells you everything you need to know about government.

Aren't the USPS's prices linked to the CPI and not actual costs? If so, yeah, they're fucked.
USPS is one of the cheapest government mail delivery service entities in the entire world.
I have not received a single piece of mail (worth opening) in years.
All the fun stuff comes in the brown truck.
They are number one because they are not allowed to shoot you.
Delivering mail is, at least, an honest service.
The US war machine, not so much.
My father removbed his mailbox from his home years ago and he seems to have a great sense of calm about him than before.
I love the Postal Service. It's better than putting them all on welfare. At least they do work. Now, I don't know exactly what that work is, but I've been assured they do some occasionally.
Wait till most people are in FEMA camps and get to experience the full love of big brother, I'm sure FEMA will jump to the top of the list.
The postal service is in debt because CONgress made totally unrelistic retirement funding obligations that they have not done to ANY other agency. Almost as if they WANT the USPS to fail...
I hold the USPS in very high regard because of my experiences with them so in my book, they've earned it.
Recently, the local post office had just closed for the day but when one of the workers saw me outside holding a box, he opened the door and let me in to ship my package. Not relevant to the story but I was shipping a monster box of ASEs to the bottom of a lake. :)
My current postman is quite friendly and he often gives my dog a Milkbone. I've asked him for some Alpo instead to include in my long term food storage.
The cost of a first class postage stamp is the best deal in the world. The fact that you can drop an envelope in a box and have it delivered to an exact address anywhere in the US within a couple of days for $0.49 is pretty incredible.
Lastly, my experience has shown the workers in the post offices I have visited to be very cordial and professional.
The USPS is, by far, the best of the bunch shown above.
Agree with 12 tooth and Siver king; not their fault they're losing money. Plus, if you've ever lived in another country, you'll appreciate how reliable, fast and inexpensive our postal system is.
Yep to all above PO is how I receive gold and silver and they have never lost a package.
The USPS is wildly popular with millenials.
And its no wonder really, they actually provide a highly demanded service.
The USPS delivers all Silk Road purchases; billions of dollars worth of drugs, pounds down to grams all shipped by USPS at the request of paying customers.
Keep it up USPS! We may just keep you around after the revolution.
They will probably be back in the black in a few years if they sell off all that ammunition they recently bought whenever the next big crisis happens.
12 tooth - right, and the USPS proposed a useful series of cost-cutting measures (end Saturday deliveries, close many very small, rural offices, consolidate some regional mailing centers) to deal with some of the deficits they are running, and our good old dysfunctional congress would not alow one single cut. The USPS was honestly trying to get a grip on the expenses they could, but no dice. And the retirement funding bullshit makes it totaly impossible for them to function on a business-like level.
But locally, my small-town post office service is great - the only Feds (sort of - they are supposed to be quasi-independent) that give a slightest shit about their customers. Upper management is totally hamstrung by the dysfunctional asshole gang in washington called CONgress.
And they don't carry guns.
The only other agency on that list I would consider to be remotely OK is NASA.
Isn't the USPS the only one of the listed agencies actually authorized by the constitution?
Since the USPS is $44B in the hole, it might be fair to say they are on welfare.
Why doesn't the secret service have an acronym on their lists?
Because it's a secret.
The SS?
Exactly.
Mail = hard copy spam
Trust me, the work is dirty, repetitive and boring, and involves sacks of mail up to 150Lbs in size being loaded onto conveyor belts, etc, but it's way more honest than...banking, Wall St, etc.
I hate the brown truck. Those jerks leave my packages at my door while I am at work, so any jackass can walk by and steal it.
At least the USPS leaves it at the local post office down the street and I can pick it up at my convenience.
I have had good service with USPS, it's the "private" ones that I have all of the hassles with.
I'm not trolling it is actually true.
If I had to pick a favorite agency, it would be the Dept of the Interior. The private sector is completely incapable of preserving vast tracts of land for recreational use like hiking, biking, camping, etc. and protecting habitats for species. Whenever private owners get a hold of land, its clearcut forest, its open pit mines, it's cookie cutter houses, its big agra farmland. The private sector can't preserve wilderness areas because there are no monetary profits involved. I know Nature Conservancy can get corporate donations to buy up a few acres here and there, but I am talking about vast stretches of land.
Why I have a big beef with right libertarians is that their platform on land usage is antithetical to freedom. If private businesses own all land, anywhere you go would be trespassing. So all the things I like to do like hiking, biking, outdoor shooting, backpacking, camping, etc. are now all trespassing and I can no longer do it. The once public lands that anyone can visit, would be sold off to the highest bidder, and would see the blade of a bulldozer.
I have more freedom now to do the things I like to do under this current shit Keynesian system, than if the Austrian School righty tighties had their way.
My friend's teenaged son hiked up a hill once behind his house, and someone called the police on him and the County Sheriff had a helicopter fly over and the Sheriffs confronted him on the hill. He was "trespassing" because that hill was "private property" (even though it lacked signage or fencing). He was let off with a "warning" luckily and was told if he went up there again he would be booked and charged. The hills directly behind my residence are a publicly owned preserve system and hike them all of the time! So much for the "nightwatchman". The only difference is that under the Austrian school pipedream, it would be a private security rent-a-cop, as opposed to a county sheriff. I see those "skateboarding is not a crime" bumper stickers. If the right libertarians had their way "hiking is not a crime" bumper stickers would be popping up everywhere, including on my truck. Then again, I would sell my truck and go without because there would be no public roads to drive on under the Austrian school pipedream, I would need to pay a toll just to back out of my driveway.
I would say the label, and I know everyone hates those, that closely fits what I advocate is Geolibertarianism.
I know a lot of people on here criticize progressivism, but the one issue these guys were spot on was their conservation efforts in the early 20th century. The Grand Canyon would be giant lake right now, and Zion National Park would be open pit mines, and Saguaro National Park would be cookie cutter houses, and Kofa NWR would be mined out and the bighorn sheep population wiped out, and Indian ruins would be looted, if it wasn't for their efforts.
i'll have what he's smoking.
Two times I was surrounded by ak-47 wielding teenagers on quads when I have hiked on the reservation near my house. You should be happy to know they have discovered the concept of ownership. They have now dropped the local water table by several hundred feet with 10,000 square foot homes accompanied with lush landscaping and have installed a drag racing strip in a environmentally sensitive location. The dust and noise once a month remind us of their harmonious integrated life with nature.
However, the government has decreed I am not allowed to collect rainwater that flows on my property for the " good of the environment". Some people are more equal than others.
Miffed
California cannabis growers may be making millions, but their thirsty plants are sucking up a priceless resource: water.
http://www.nbcnews.com/storyline/legal-pot/water-guzzling-pot-plants-dra...
Shutting off water to farmers to save a snail (or was it a fish? I forget), and fracking, and continuous stratospheric geoengineering have NOTHING to do with it.
SEE (sez the MSM), it's 'dem POT-growers.
3 billion gallons of poisonous fracking wastewater were dumped into the aquifers in California (at least, that's all they've found SO FAR)...
Here's a thought: get yerself a large toybox (prefereably plastic) and label it so the UPS/FedEx folks can find and use it.
I've always been impressed with the USPS's ability to deliver billions of letters and packages wiith vey few screw ups. As far as .gov agencies goes, the USPS is one ef the few with any real value.
Dear Dr Engali:
Your declaration: "As far as .gov agencies goes, the USPS is one ef the few with any real value."
Let me put it in perspective for you:
1. 250,000 postal vehicles spewing pollutants into our breathing air
2. Union workers with the skill level of a convenience store employee making over $100,000 per year in wages and benefits
Delivering a product that could be delivered over the Internet at an infenitesmal cost.
I often enjoy your intelligent posts but you must not live in the United States or are not fully informed.
please enlighten us about how your new credit card, or 100 new silver eagles, of membership cards, or many other tangible items will be delivered via the internet
Not too difficult: Just stick the ethernet cable into yer ear! :>D
"Delivering a product that could be delivered over the Internet at an infenitesmal cost."
SERIOUSLY? REALLY!?!
GOD, what a douche!
Stuff magically materializes from my ethernet cable all the time. It WAS NOT that strange-looking truck stopping by my mailbox, I SWEAR! It was the INTERNET, what delivered it! (Evil powerplants spewing carbon out of their smokestacks so I can power my computer...)
OH, my fucking GOD! Are there REALLY people as stupid as this?
Given the mindless, dirty and heavy work involved, Postal employees deserve a living wage. Take a temporary gig around XMas time at a Postal annex and see how long you last...
I bet they have their very own SWAT team.
Incorrect: Postal inspectors are armed. Sorry mate.
Not yet anyway. Give it time.
No need to wait, he's already incorrect.
http://www.businessweek.com/articles/2014-04-21/why-is-the-post-office-b...
So when are they going to go after those who send out all that campaign literature? Talk about blatant lies and fraud.
Whether they're hoarding ammo or not depends on whether they purchase 50 rounds per employee, or 5,000 rounds per employee.
In terms of quality of service, I will take the USPS over FedEx or UPS anyday of the week. The later two suck in comparison.
Postal Service is the only branch of .gov that even resembles working. Save for their huge annual losses. LOL
...and if not for the parasitical Congress, the USPS would actually be turning a profit.
Upon a return to an Articles of Confederation type of government, the Post Office is one of the few things I'd like for us to retain.
I get GREAT service from the USPS.
For forty nine cents a courier will come to my door, collect a letter and hand deliver it to someone anywhere in the USA.
Fantastic!
Yes, once it scans and archives the exterior of the envelope......
That's performed by another agency.
Since they lose billions every year, they are not actually that cheap.
You could double postage rates and I'd pay it, happily. The USPS provides a reliable service that I use and depend on daily.
Even if they lose a full $8 billion/yr, that amounts to less than 0.5% of the federal budget. There are bigger fish to fry, ones that aren't actually mandated by the Constitution.
"USPS is one of the cheapest government mail delivery service entities in the entire world."
I find this statement to be mind boggling moronic!!!
The reason that they are the "cheapest" is because they spent $44 BILLION more than they took in!!!
If you live in the United States you, the taxpayers, are responsible for those $44 BILLION and increasing by several BILLION per quarter!
If you, and the morons that think like you, want to know what is wrong with this country go and look at your nearest mirror.
Yer argument is that taxpayers are paying another $44Billion in hidden USPS costs; so? consider how many tax $$ are paying for a lot more hidden costs in Govt.
I'm guessing it's because they don't do drive by shootings while delivering the mail. I mean, think of all the damage the other agencies would do to home and property delivering the mail. Fatherland Security? Please, them dolts would set up a perimeter around your home and blow the fucking doors down over Certified Mail RRR.
It looks as though the CPI has indeed been the driver of the USPS's price increases, and they're saying that it is not good enough.
Don't you just love it when the government fucks itself through its own lies and deceptions?
In June 1788, the ninth state ratified the Constitution, which gave Congress the power “To establish Post Offices and post Roads” in Article I, Section 8. A year later, the Act of September 22, 1789 (1 Stat. 70), continued the Post Office and made the Postmaster General subject to the direction of the President. Four days later, President Washington appointed Samuel Osgood as the first Postmaster General under the Constitution. A population of almost four million was served by 75 Post Offices and about 2,400 miles of post roads.

You'd think with the massive improvements in engine and navigation efficiency, their input cost of fuel would be massively down, thus allowing them to keep ahead of the inflation curve, but I guess that's government bureaucracy for you.
Gummint: ctrl-alt-del

No postal service Wacos or Ruby Ridges. They're not running guns into Mexico, cutting deals with mobsters, forcing our kids to eat cardboard for lunch, no "common core", no enforcement of politically-correct language, forcing overseas residents to pay American taxes (London mayor). Get it now?
The Horror! Boston residents forced to eat at Hooters for Thanksgiving!

If only they turned a profit, you couldn't say that they stay in business at the point of the IRS guns.
They may be insolvent, but (unlike every other federal agency) the USPS actually does something that the average citizen sees every day:
They deliver mail.
And they're actually a Constitutional entity.
For some reason, but yeah, there's that.
Exactly, it's the one agency that actually does something, and has a positive percieved value for what it does.
The rest either do nothing, or actually add negative value.
Pretty sure NOAA/NWS would have scored decently if they'd been on the poll as well.
seek
because they protect us from 'the warming'?
nasa does stuff too (and no, it's not fake)
That's it, and out of all the agencies (including that Fed Reserve agency) they probably screw the taxpayer the LEAST.
You know, the Weather Service/NOAA provides a lot of really good information for free. It is the only government website that I visit multiple times a day, like the SPC Mesoscale Analysis Page.
Predicting severe weather actually protects property and lives, more than most of those other agencies cay say.
Yes, but the day they are allowed to shoot you, you will go to the post office to pick your post.
You mean they are an engine for subsidizing the delivery of corporate junk mail.
Other than birthday cards (a waste of trees), I have not received anything via USPS in over ten years, other than corporate advertisements. That includes, but is not limited to correspondance from other illegit gummint agencies such as the DMV, and IRS. All other business is conducted online, or in person.
In any case; if the USPS is such a great idea, does it need a monopoly, protected by the guns of government? It is nothing more than another failed government jobs program....now it is a jobs program for the obese.
You have your opinion, but fortunately, it is a minority one.
Unlike most Govt, the USPS is MANDATED by the US Constitution.
Plus, let's be honest and acknowledge that certain Congress critters sponsored by FedEx & UPS have been working against the USPS for years.
What we should do is expand the ability of the Post Office to provide basic banking services. Simple checking & savings accounts are not hard or complicated, and I bet banking at the Post Office would be wildly popular.
The USPS isn't actively screwing everyone and as far as losing money, its just a blip on the radar....
A ripple on the pond. Ripples make waves.
When you look at the competition it's pretty clear this is really a "Which government agency do Americans hate the least" contest.
It's like when the bar gets close to last call and all of the hot ladies are gone. Picking one before the lights go on and all.
They send your packages and stuff, and bring them to you.
They don't ask for 15% of your income, they don't cut your benefits by 2% when food costs 20% more, they don't tell you what you can eat/drink/smoke, they don't kick your door in, they don't send Billions in tax receipts to neo-Nazi coups in Ukraine, they don't tell you that the rain on your roof is theirs, etc.
Exactly. The USPS is like a six-day-a-week Santa, bringing you shit whether you need it or not. Who else does that?
Well of corse. They still deliver what they are paid too. Sort of. The rest?
It really boils down to the least feared org.
I'm not sure if USPS has ramped up their SWAT and entry teams yet, but judging by what I see at the post office, I think that's a threat low on the list.
USPS and VA are the only ones worth keeping. The rest can go away and the country would be better overnight.
Well, we should probably hold on to at least a portion of the DoD.
We could keep a few tanks, a handful of airplanes, and maybe a battleship or two around; just in case someone decides to attack us...
150,000,000 privately owned guns helps to deter an invasion.
Yeah, but at least a little air cover would be helpful...
I was going by the list but I agree it may be wise to keep a few tanks lol. There is a ton of government agencies we could throw away and be a healthier country. I know for a fact a lot of us can find more reasons to remove an agency than keep.
VA means more wars. The only way to support Vets is to end war, thus no need for a VA...in due time.
Why do you hate our veterans so much as to continue socialized care?
Simon you're a fucking tool of the elite. Far be it from me to question any graduate of the WP meat grinder, but you know damn well how it was rigged.
NO corporation or business is FORCED to fund their MEDICAL & PENSIONS 3 generations into the future.
FUCK OFF MANIPULATIVE LIAR.
LOL - like that cash cow isn't being pumped out like SS.
Of course it is. Why else pass such a law? To privatize it.
And who's a direct beneficiary?
Feinswine & her CBRE hubby.
If the Federal Govt. was forced to prefund medicare and social security, about $100 trillion would be added to the debt today.
US Postal Service workers have a retiree health care benefit in addition to their pension. Before Congress passed the Postal Accountability and Enhancement Act of 2006, the USPS operated under a pay-as-you-go model for retiree health care funding. The new law requires the Postal Service to pre-fund its benefit obligations.
...I mean, God forbid we actually fund something entirely...
Pre-fund something 75 years in the freaking future at the cost of $5.5B annually? Yeah sure that makes a ton of sense.
Well, what did you expect? For the 56% :These are the guys that bring those pretty little checks with the statue of liberty on them.
Merica, it was a blast while it lasted.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dUnK_3kAUYI
Let's put this into perspective, the USPS is probably the least likely to kill or incarcerate any of those voting in this poll.
The choice seems clear but it's not a ringing endorsement by any means.
No shit. I mean, look at the fucking list, then look at the headlines of the last three to four years.
NASA and USPS are the least overtly threatening.
People were asked to RANK, not asked what they preferred or even like.
This article is shit and doesn't get to the heart of the issue.
I've never had a problem with the post office, but I don't understand people's admiration for the police state. How does the FBI, CIA, and the DHS make it on the top four? We are more fucked than I thought.
Why - they's pro-teckin' ours freedoms.
because half of american work in FBI, CIA, etc... they just vote for their workplace
hahaha!!! The truth hurts. the .gov useless eaters will be the ones who vote for whatever candidate gives them more job security and they will rank any poll offered to them with their agency at the top. Now this is the most disturbing trend in this country. Its not the poll indicating people may like a police state, its the amount of the workforce in the USA employed by Uncle Sam.
"For What Its Worth" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gp5JCrSXkJY
"
The USPS’s own balance sheet shows a negative equity of MINUS $44 billion."
This statement re the Post Office is just stupid. Simon sometimes you are almost intelligent but on this you pathetically moronic. You should be doing press conferences with Al Sharpton.
Apparently the respondents understood this was an exercise in picking the best of the worst.
where's NSA?
Listen , the USPS may have its flaws, but its pretty much the only "American" thing left in our govt.
Everything else is owned by foreign dictators and bankers. . .
So....
Atleast the USPS is American.
Honestly USPS and Army and Navy should be only agencies in govt allowed to even call themselves American.
Executive branch is a steaming pile
Congress is pretty much "there for show" so is the senate (we have no representatives, just govt propoganda front men pretending to give a shit)
CIA is a steaming pile
FBI doesn't investigate jack shit of importance.
What else? who cares?
That is because US postal workers mostly only shoot eachother and not the public.
1941 Polish poll: please rank your occupiers on a scale of one to four. Gestapo, Red Army, SS, Wehrmacht...?
The Wehrmacht is the favorite agency of occupied Poles.
The only thing that shows up in the mail is junk mail and political advertising every election cycle.
99% of everything mailed out could be done via email with an 10,000% increase in efficiency.
I think the post office is important, but frankly they should not be in the business of subsidized mass mailing coupons to little old ladies to buy cat food and cheap whiskey.
Think of just the weight of the paper that is hauled around the country on an hourly basis wherein 99.99% goes directly into the landfill without passing Go.
At least reschedule service to twice a week - tuesdays/thursdays.
Nobody will notice. Maybe telegrams will make a comeback via drone delivery.
I fucking hate USPS. I have two friends that work for USPS. They both hate it. It's a mindless, little man(women) in charge bureaucracy. My biggest gripe is the system is inefficient. Australia, for example, privatized their post and it's fucking awesome. At a Brisbane location I visited they hired a bunch of college girls to work the counters. The girls were pleasant and on subject. Long line was quickly expedited. No small talk, get your business done and on to the next customer. Fast forward to a typical US post office with old fucks working the counters and old fucks standing in line to carry on a fucking conversation about what the fuck ever.
EVERY fucking time I have to go to the post office I stand in line for 15-30 minutes, including last week. What's up with the "hey how's your day going?" small talk to every customer? I'm the prick in line that raises my voice when ANYONE goes off topic. Hey! We're all standing in line and have things to do! Let's keep the line moving! or how about getting some more clerks from the back to work the counter!? I fucking despise USPS. Sorry.
Damn bro, you have bigger problems than the USPS...
Dude, I've never had a problem at the post office.
I think you have pointed out your problem......
You're just a prick.
Unfortunately, there isn't much that can be done for that.
You sound like an anti-social dickbag.
True, there's a big difference in walking up to the counter at UPS or FEDEX versus the post office. At the private ones, they say "yes sir" at the public one, I have to say it.
Commentors are more and more insane each day. These people have to be posting from bunkers with gas masks on. Keep fearing everything, doods.
They're complete cowards. I'm talking about the kids who were such pussies in school that even the losers picked on them. Afraid of their own shadow. The sad thing is they believe it all.
As far as the post office goes, this neglects to point out that it has an overfunded pension by billions of dollars, because of congress, that is overfunded until like 2080. Without that, it wouldn't lose money.
And, also, the post office was never meant to turn a profit. It was meant to serve every single american, no matter where in the 50 states they live.
But, again, all of this is lost.
Gubmint.....bad!
Yeah you're probably better off killing yourself than living in permanent fear of everything or living underground. These idiots just want to be Rambo. They now fear postal workers are going to shoot them. Wow. That has to be the all-time most irrational fear. You know what is actually exhilarating? Not fearing death.
That's why most of them collect and hoard guns.
They can't solve their problems like a person not living in barbaric times.
Let alone crime has plummeted in the west in the past two decades.
No matter, let me blow my hard earned money on guns, gold, and Ebola suits. Christ.
"The collapse" is going to be so anti-climactic for these people. Seems we'll either all die via some ebola or mass radiation shit that could never have be avoided and you wouldn't want to survive, or if the collapse is economic the government just reprices gold and everything will be fine, or there is no collapse because humans are ingenius and we are inventing exponentially at this point. Either way, we are all going to fucking die. Is it better to die a few years earlier or live underground? Probably the former. The fear of death in these people is driving them mad. Come to grips with death, dudes, and you won't give two shits about fiat, ebola, or anything else. Go outside in the sun. Live a little. Enjoy your last days since you believe you're in the heart of them. These people are the weirdest combination of scaredy cats and Rambo wannabes. Fearing armed postal worker ...holy shit. That is an all time low.
I agree.
I'm not about to blow my money on end of the world insurance.
Do the best you can, live and let live. That's all that's worth doing.
The USPS is a public service, the others are a public disservice.
This must be one of those reliable polls......
Of course they love the USPS...It's how they get their EBT cards and Obammy phones... They probably also like looting their neighbors mailboxes for S.S. checks and various other trinkets.
You took the words out of my mouth.
It's hard to vota against Santa.
You stupid, cunt.
Reagan was the first to implement giving out phones for the poor.
Obama, just made the logical choice to switch from expensive landlines to cheap cell phones.
Eat shit and die.
They just listen to Schiff and read Ayn Rand so they don't know any better.
Cheap cell phones. Yea 6 or 7 of them so that they can contact their dealers.
Good one,dude!
This programs cost of this to the taxpayer is rounding error as a share of the budget.
You probably also America is too generous with our foreign aid, too.
Sure, our foreign aid props up dictators.
Gentlemen,
Let me remind you that the USPS is in the shitter because it was hamstrung by congress by having to fund their employee health benefits decades into the future. This was done in order to essentially carve it up for takeover by the private shipping companies.
Exactly. They also did that to Detroit and are planning to do that to other US Municipalities.
Not that I'm a fan of Cities like Chicago who let employees get two retirements for essentially the same job or let them clear $200K or nearly with their two retirement pensions.
US Finance is a mess. I would not admire the USA for Finance if I was a foreigner. Not after 2008 Financial Crisis and not knowing the exponential growth of Federal Spending, and total Federal Debt.
USA let's itself get raped in the Ass by Congress, the President & Lobbyists for Wealthy Elite. Corporate Subsidies. Monopolies for Wall Street to do "God's Work" /Sarc
How about it's in the shitter because it has some of the best real estate in towns and cities across the country?
In July the Postal Service outsourced its real estate and property management business to CB Richard Ellis, the world’s largest commercial real estate company. Today the USPS-CBRE website is up and running, showing off some 90 post office buildings as well as 36 land parcels, all for sale. The Postal Service must be in a big hurry to dismantle itself — the website has a page on "About USPS" and all it says is "Under Construction." Maybe it should say, "Under Deconstruction."
[...]
It has shifted from owning to leasing spaces, like in Palm Beach Florida, where it sold off the New Deal post office and moved the post office to a rented space in a strip mall. It has opened up “alternative retail access points” in Wal-Marts and Staples so that business is siphoned off from the brick-and-mortar post office, and now it says that customers “prefer” it that way.
[...]
Among the 90 post offices for sale on the new website are ten historic buildings (seen in the slideshow), most of them on the National Register of Historic Places. They are part of the nation’s architectural treasure, and they are now up for grabs, waiting to be sold to the highest bidder. Over the coming years, we’re going to watch thousands of post offices sold, and many of them will be historic landmark buildings that are the pride of their communities. The American people own 8,000 post office buildings, over 2,000 of them built during the New Deal and before.
http://savethepostoffice.com/dismantling-public-realm-post-offices-sale
Amerikans love their Politburo, i mean government.
They're the only group in government who's face I actually see benefiting me.
Keep them, fire every other scumbag organization.
I recently tried to set up a business mail reply account with the USPS. It was a horrific ordeal that took weeks to complete and many trips all over the city. The postal service, in its current form, should be eliminated.
Setting up business mail reply is mindbogglingly easy! What is wrong with you? Simple instructions. Fill in the form. I've done it for two businesses, and used it for several others. It's never been a problem.
Look at the list. The USPS is clearly America's least hated government agency, at least on this list. If the foreign IRS corporation, the foreign owners of the federal reserve, and the entire federal government were behind bars, the federal prison system would be America's favorite agency.
The reason the USPO loses money is because business have a racket - their postal rates are subsidized. We get spam, delivered on the cheap, and pay extra for important mail, while advertisers laugh all the way to the bank at just how stupid we are!
Just another way the corporatacracy loots America.

USPS is the obvious answer because they do things for people everyday and everyone knows the people who work there and they are comfortable. I note missing also from the list is HHS, FDA and USDA. A mindless piece of nonsense this article. A waste of space.
why not NASA ? people don't like fake moon landings or exploding shuttles ? you get some bang for your buck
i think fedex should have to deliver all the money losing crap the usps has to deliver by law. they would be the best short in the market.
I think the only one that's Constitutional is the post office although that's not even run as intended.

I am lucky to have a top-notch post office where packages are almost never lost and the carriers work very hard. My friend does online sales and he says anything sent to Louisianna or parts of Florida you can almost kiss it goodbye even if you send it priority mail with signature.
I'm sure this warmongering government will be arming the USPS soon and this poll will change.
I'm amazed that people are willing to waste their time on a stupid, meaningless survey like this. It's like choosing your favorite strain of syphilis and then applauding the results.
New congressional source for dismemberment of the USPS:

I just had what was left of a package delivered from the U.K. Luckily it was a sturdy box. I know, many things can happen during international delivery, but I have a sneaking suspicion that either Customs or USPS is to blame.
Everyone has gripes about the Postal Service. They have a difficult job and overall perform well all things considered.
At least I see them trying to compete, I rec'd a shipment from Amazon on a Sunday via the USPS. Color me shocked. UPS, hell no on both Sat and Sun and Fed-Ex might do it for an ass raping surcharge on a Sat delivery.
I would actually prefer my tax dollars go to maintaining/subsidizing a functioning Postal service, which is a hallmark of an actual civilization kind of like military and roads, than being wasted on Bankster bonuses.
4.1 Billion dollars yearly would barely keep Bankster families in 16th birthday yachts and private islands for their grandkids' 16th birthdays. It's all a matter the of perspective and priority of those in charge and Bankster family 16th birthday presents are obviously more important.
What other government agencies are measured the same way? Why don't we talk about the NSA, the CIA, the Army, or simply Congress in terms of how money they lose.
You're lost, America, if this is how you think. The rest of the world watches and scratches their heads, wondering when this sham will lash out at them or implode.
Federal Reserve Board? What is this agency you speak of?
I thought they were an independant group
