Thought Crime? Navy Vet Fired For Posting Images Of DHS Vehicles On Facebook

Tyler Durden's picture

Submitted by Mike Krieger via Liberty Blitzkrieg blog,

You probably haven’t heard of Mark Paffrath, the 28-year-old Navy veteran, and former employee of the Drury hotel chain, who was fired from his job and called a “terrorist” for taking pictures of Department of Homeland Security (DHS) vehicles and posting them to his personal Facebook page.

The story of his recent job termination is further proof of fascism’s relentless bull market within these United States. What happened to Mr. Paffrath could easily happen to any of us, and it’s imperative that we support him and reject the type of backwards fear-mongering being perpetrated by his control-freak employer.

Just two weeks ago, we saw a 90-year-old vet threatened with jail for feeding homeless people in Florida. Now this.

TechDirt reports that:

Mark says that on Thursday after work he snapped 2 photographs and a short video of several dozen Homeland Security vehicles in the parking garage. He then uploaded them to his Facebook page. In his post he writes “why are all the cop cars here…I wonder if it has anything to do with Ferguson”, he also included the hashtags #Ferguson #NoJusticeNoPeace.

On Friday, shortly after arriving to work at the Drury Plaza Hotel, Mark stated that he was called to the office of Jeff Baker, the General Manager. Upon arriving Mr. Baker advised Mark that he needed to remove the photos and video from Facebook. Mark immediately complied and removed the post. Mark then continued and finished his shift.

That should be the end of it, but of course it’s not…

Saturday, Mark stated after being at work no more than 30 minutes, he was again called to the General Manager’s office. Waiting for him was Jim Bohnert, Director of Security for Drury Hotels Company, LLC. Mark told ASN that Mr. Bohnert advised him that his Facebook posts almost cost the company a $150,000 contract with the Department of Homeland Security and because of this he was being terminated.

Jim Bohnert — formerly of the Secret Service and the St. Louis Police Department — had more to say on the matter. He called the former military member a “terrorist” and told him he had “dishonorably served his country” by posting pictures of vehicles parked in a garage where any guest or employee of the hotel could have seen them. In fact, any member of the public could have seen them simply by entering the garage, which is not secured. Argus Streaming News writers were able to see “over 100″ DHS vehicles in the garage while driving through it on their way to speak to the hotel’s manager.

Bohnert also threatened Paffrath with arrest if the photos were reposted (presumably by someone with more power than Director of Security for Drury Hotels, Bohnert’s current position).

Specifically, this is what Bohnert supposedly said:

Mark stated that Mr. Bohnert ended the conversation with “if you repost the photos and video you will have the federal government knocking on your door and you will be incarcerated”.

We must all support Mr. Paffrath, and let Drury Hotels know that it is their behavior that is unacceptable, not Mark Paffrath’s. It’s perfectly representative of the addled, insane society we live in that the hotel’s security director had the nerve to call a U.S. veteran a “terrorist” for posting pictures to Facebook. I think we all know who’s actually behaving like a terrorist in this case. The time for getting outraged has long since passed.

Tell the kid to NEVER post ANYTHING on FACEBOOK, EVER AGAIN! It's TOO LATE to try deleting the ACCOUNT now, kid... it's in the CLOUD EN PERPETUA

Well, the employee learned his "lesson".  Your boss reads your facebook more than the State does.  It's your employer that has more control over you than the State could ever dream of.

The boss didn't like your facebook posts, you are out of a job.

LOL, let's go to press with a one-sided story from a low-level service industry worker. One who just lost his job and has an axe to grind, no less. What could go wrong?

Ewww, one of those low level service workers!!! They should be shot on sight. If he had a more respectable job, like a TSA or IRS employee, then you would bow down to him.

Maybe it's one sided because Durry and the SS refuse to comment. Did you think of that?

Of course I would have simply told the manager I would be re-posting the photos everywhere with the story, just to ensure they lost the 150K contract. I mean it is not like I would be burning any bridges. As far as incarceration, I'm sure they could trump up a few charges, but considering the sensitivity of Ferguson I would consider it a calculated risk, and call the manager's bluff.

So the moral of the story is when you're dealing with criminals, traitors and terrorists and you submit to even their slightest wishes in order to appease them you will be screwed twice as hard

So Mr Paffrath, according to the post, was defamed, wrongful terminated, and had his 1rst Amendment rights violated. Should be worth a few million

I hope he sues the company, the management jerkoffs and the agents that coerced the company. That is unless the agents directed management to fire him. And then its a whole new ballgame

1. Is the parking structure private property?

2. Is the parking structure a public or private space?

3. Do those parking there have an objective expectation of privacy?

For those who hold that owners of private property have rights regarding that property, it should be an easy thing to accept that property owners have the right to limit access to their private property.  The right to limit access to would include the right to determine who can take pictures, and of what, on that privately owned property.

The gentleman who took the pictures seems to have not known this.  Some of the commenters here seem to not know this.

Private property but a public place.

No reasonable expectation of privacy because all guests have access to the garage.

Too bad the guy was an employee. He that pays the piper calls the tune.

A wrongful termination case would run head on into a bullshit claim of 'National Security' issues because 'right-wing terrorists' might blow up a conference room full of DHS agents plotting new ways to strip Americans of their rights.

Yes, if you don't see the violation of liberty and freedom here, then you're fucking retarded.  If the story was about a group of shitheads from Apple that had their photos of company cars posted on FB, it would be the same result.  The fucking photo happy clerk, who happened to be the Navy, deserves to lose his job.

Think of it this way....God forbid YOU get a job with DHS or any government agency (I realize from the posts that's highly unlikely with most of you being fucking retarded or just ignorant).  Now, let's understand that the government tells you where you are permitted to stay when traveling on government business.  That's why hotels have a government rate, btw.  For example, DOE has their nuclear transporter crews stay at designated places daily, it's not a choice for many government employees.

https://www.flickr.com/photos/policecararchives/4097948015/

http://www.armoredcars.com/inventory/upload/tn_photo_173.jpg

Remember, you're the government employee on official business, driving government tactical vehicles and forced to stay at this shitty Drury hotel.  The hotel is chosen because it has a parking garage that you can hide from plain sight your vehicles so that you're not robbed.

All for not, because some numbnuts front desk employee thinks it's cool that you camped out for the night and took pictures and posted to his loser FB account.  I agree with firing his dumb ass.  I'm certain it was in his employment contract not to film guests.

Hope that clears it up for you fucking morons.  Reasonable freedom and privacy are afforded to government employees.  The government itself has no right to privacy, but the employees do.

Disclaimer: I'm not a government employee.

This idiot thinks you see only one part of this and not the whole.

Why should the DHS care?  Except it knows it does the same thing to people like you.  After all, none of us have nothing to hide, do we?  Except politicians, DHS, NSA and corporate felons hiding behind the redacted rule of National Security.  The rest of us are terorists.

Maybe DHS employees will think twice about breaking laws the founders created and which most of America was led to believe was the foundation for the USA.  But no, like the Nazi SS and Gestapo, they were just following orders.

If they don't like the tables being turned, they can get another job.

Really, you even admit your an idiot.  You people don't even understand what you're arguing about.  You don't truly understand freedom and liberty.

The privacy context is not about DHS, they should have none.  It's about the individuals that work there and are now off the clock staying at a government provided/approved hotel.  The fuckstick employee, that happened to be a Navy vet, had priveledged information on who, what, when stayed at the hotel.

The premise of the article is misguided by stating that a Navy vet was fired.  What the fuck does being a Navy vet have to do with the price of tea in China?  The fucktard works at a shitbag hotel now.  He was probably a fucking cook.

The bottom line is the guy made an innocent gesture and corrected it whan asked to do so.

He gets fired.

I checked out that stupid hotel's web site.  Facebook is predominately displayed.  DHS isn't so smart is it?

How do you know they were on off time?  Why aren't they driving their personal vehicles then instead of gov issued stuff.

What do the DHS employees got to worry about, unless they are screwing around on their wives?  Like the secret service in Columbia and putting hookers on expense accounts.

They got the guns don't they?

A Drury hotel parking garage is not Area 51.

No it is not.  But it IS private property.  And the owners of that private property have a defined right to tell those it allows on that property how to behave.  Plus, the municipal, state, and Federal code states whether those parking on that private property can have an objective expectation of privacy (the stricter interpretation rules).  That ruling goes beyond what the owner of that private property might decide is allowable behavior.

Poor DHS employees private time being invaded in a public hotel.

What about my private fucking time that NSA, Google, AT&T, Microsoft, Verizon, Apple, DHS and everyone else is competing with each other to dig deep into my crevices to see if I have terrorist tendencies or worse, maybe cash they can't figure out how I got or who my friends are or who I am sleeping with.

sheikyurbootie was in special ops, Re. the video game version.

Germany sunk the British Lusitania during WW1.  At the time the Allies loudly screamed the sinking was a war crime because the Lusitania was a medical non-military ship carrying only wounded to safety.  This inflamed many including the US to joint the fight against Germany.

They finally proved only a few years ago the Lusitania was indeed an armed military vessel.

This is an example of what I was describing.

Police officer identity should be concealed and secret.  The alternative is what we see in Ferguson, the protectors getting death threats.

How effective can a LEO be with death hanging over their heads??

Protect the police.  Weave them into the fabric.

Good idea.

Let's make them wear hoods and eliminate badge numbers.

I'd feel safer not knowing who was going to shoot me for a jaywalking ticket.

First, everyone reading this can call Jeff at 636-532-3300 to inform him they will never stay at his hotel chain.  Then maybe clueless Jeff can figure out that mafia security is bad for business.

Second, Jim Bohnert - playing with fire.

Pee Wee ain't afraid of your flapping vagina of ex-cop fear mongering bullshit. Intimidation like the good ol days will get you killed.  Be thankful you're alive Jim.  You simply haven't confronted someone smarter than you.

Since this story is all over the Internet, Bohnert may have provided just the cause "protestors" are looking for to destroy something else.  So much so that both Jim and Jeff could be terminated for making something out of nothing in the name of nothing. Meanwhile terrorism has won yet again.  Rinse, repeat.

You could send them an email suggesting they use their mighty powers to get Mark Paffrath rehired.

Ok, so if it's a crime to take a picture of DHS vehicles, does that mean it's a crime to look at them?

What if I looked at them, should I promise to forget right away?

By the way, I keep reading the constitution, it doesn't say anything about DHS in there. Does that mean DHS is..."extra constitutional," sometimes known as "unconstitutional?"

Changing a few words…

The Home Land Security (Gestapo), or secret state police played a key role in the terror and control of American (German) citizens. With the ability to rely on a network of Liberals (informers) and enjoying the power to arrest and imprison without trial, the Home Land Security (Gestapo) had a significant influence on the Obama (Nazi) state.

Thought Crime, signature of the Inquisition.

Despotic states are inquisitorial, Arbitrary and repressive.

If you believe in a God who justifies evil in his name, you make Man evil (Thomas Paine).

Demonising the enemy is the beginning of the Inquisition as you dehumanise him.

Look around you, now the West is lurching back to its Inquisitorial, neo-feudalist past trying to match the East which is stuck in that rut.

Clash of Civilization has made ethnic/ideological cleansers of us again,  in neo-colonial predatory Nation-State mayhem--(that we bequeathed to them when Enlightenment occurred and spread)-- and rogue state building (to ensure Oligarchy rape of RM).

When you have an Oligarchy that makes clash of civilization its foreign policy, by taking OVER the REPUBLIC, and enacting Patriot's Acts to reinstate Inquisition at home, you know that in such mindset, anything becomes possible as we've already been there. This is a REPEAT of Middle Ages and obscurantist mindset.

Hubris and Obscurantist fed greed... as corrupted empires fall time and again.

May I suggest that here at ZH we stop dignifying the use of the word "Homeland" as in "Department of Homeland Security".

I'm sure that plenty of people have noticed how clearly reminiscent the word "Homeland" is of Nazi propaganda - that is precisely why it was invented by the Nazis in Cheney's administration. It is pathetic how easily and completely it has been adopted by the lapdog media, who have been virtually 100% turned by their masters into cheerleaders for the leaders of the tyranny.

Please don't support this creeping menace by casual, thoughtless use of the language of the tyranny.

"Department of Hopeless Sociopaths" might work. Any other suggestions?

- Fatherland Security is what DHS is
- Department of War is DOD
- Ministry of Propaganda might be Depart of Education
- MSM might be Depart of Information, Ministry of Information
- Federal Disease Monitoring Agency is CDC
- Depart of Twisted Law is DOJ
- Depart of Protection of the Banks is the FBI

"Thought Crime? Navy Vet Fired For Posting Images Of DHS Vehicles On Facebook"

"... Mr. Bohnert advised him that his Facebook posts almost cost the company a $150,000 contract with the Department of Homeland Security and because of this he was being terminated."

If what is in bold is accurate, he nearly cost the business a large sum of money.  If accurate, that would seem to be the real issue to the business, not that he took the photos.  If he was just a guest at the hotel and posted the photos, he would not have lost his job at Kmart, if that was where he worked.

DHS got millions of dollars of free ACHTUNG out of "Die Nacht Der Langen Parkplatz." It warned millions of Americans not to do what Mark Paffrath did at the Drury Plaza Hotel.

That's all the DHS wants  --  a little secrecy in a society which prides itself on its freedom of speech.

Is that too much to ask?

tripadvisor.com is what I use when I'm looking for a reservation for a hotel because by reading the reviews I can make a wise choice. It's used by my friends also and I think affects a fair amount of bookings.

If only 1% of us "review" a drury hotel/inn, if only saying that by booking there is a slap in the face of the Constitution I'll bet that it'll cost Drury more than the $150,000.  No need to be dishonest.
