"We Tortured Some Folks...But" Historic CIA Mea Culpa Press Conference - Live Feed
CIA Director John Brennan is due to make a rare public statement and answer press questions with regard the Senate Intelligence Committee's report on the CIA's use of torture.
Mike Krieger summed it all up perfectly...
If you're part of status quo, you can get away with anything. Murder, torture, theft of trillions. Until top guys are jailed it won't stop.

We accept your apology.
Now off to the gallows with you, and may God have mercy on your soul.
You misspelled Allah.
Only if I were speaking Arabic. In that case, though, all the words would be misspelled.
Gott mit uns, nicht war?
GITMO is bad but everyone is fine with droning these guys and their families out in the desert. Classic "not in my backyard" rationale.
Everyone?
Cheney, you Psychopathic Scum Fu#k. Ilive for the day we hang you upside down, slice your throat from ear to ear, watch you drown in your own blood while simultaneously setting you on fire. Your day of reckoning is fast approaching you
You must be fun at parties.
cutting heads off is the new normal set by our enemy, anything less is fair game.
A textbook example of Limited Hangout, it doesn't get more obvious than this folks.
Drowning good, beheading bad
I think it's an acquired condition. I've never said this but today i was watching some of his FOX interview and said outloud, just die already. Its not our fault!
former hunting pal Harry Whittington, is that you?
Chupacabra-322
Much too quick a death.
Burying him up to his neck in the desert and let fire ants sting him...then
put him in a dark damp cell to rot slowly for as long as possible to prolong his suffering until he 'gets a clue'.
The same for the rest of them.

I don't see Feinstein having a press conference on it or anyone asking about it.
The timing and ferocity of the report is odd. It seems like an ambush of one elite group against another, catching the other side completely off guard. Is it possible that so much information could have been compiled without the targets suspecting a thing? They're at each other's throats now, could there be a clash of titans going on at the top but out of our view?
Looking good for his appointment with the hangman.
He even wore his favorite tie tack.
Tasteless and wrong.
If anything that pic is gross understatement of how much of a douchebag Cheney is. You're really gonna try and defend that guy?
Jesus effing Christ.
I don't know what they're doing with this sudden torture acknowledgement and apology(?), but I do know they're screwing us or lying to us. somehow.
It's what is going on..somewhere, that this is deflecting, you should be more concerned with.
On Wednesday, Brazil's Truth Commission delivered its report on tortures and disappearances during the CIA-aided military rule of that country from 1964 to 1984.
During the Johnson Administration, Operation Brother Sam was undertaken to topple the democratically elected government of Brazil and replace it with rightwing military rule.
The people who put together the report have realized that granting amnesty to the torturers and murderers of that regime was the wrong move, and that in not moving against those still alive, the torture mindset continues among Brazil's police and military to this very day!
A lesson Americans would do well to pay attention to, since we repeatedly hear the corporate media newsy whore scum consistently refer to the crimes of kidnapping, torture and murder as "mistakes" --- and such mistakes are held to be crimes locally, at the state and federal levels and also internationally, along with torture-murders.
To not go after those criminals and hold them accountable will be sending out the wrong message, just as we have witnessed President Obama not fulfill his constitutional duty and go after the banksters, instead granting them immunity from prosecution for their crimes, just as he recently signed legislation granting legal immunity to Monsanto!
The citizenry must actively pursue these criminals who have kidnapped, tortured, and in some cases, tortured to death, any number of innocent foreign nationals.
President Bill Clinton, in his last act, his final ignoble action before vacating the White House, signed an executive order granting legal immunity from the US Constitution to members of the American intelligence community.
Such a criminal order should now be ruled null and void, and simply another crooked politician covering their skankhole!
The torture business was very lucrative for certain criminals, just as the private prison business is quite profitable: a poor person is essentially economically worthless under the present system, but incarcerate that person and the corporation receives $40,000 per year for him or her.
So too interrogators were hired at a starting salary of $163,000, quite profitable individually, and the contract to the two psychologists involved was $81 million.
Time to hold those who behind the kidnapping and torture and murder of innocent people, without due process, accountable!

More than 400 people were killed or disappeared between 1964 and 1985.
Brazil's national truth commission says illegal arrests, torture, executions and forced disappearances were performed systematically by state agents under Brazil's military rule.

torture is a war crime, right? so does it make bush, chenny and obama war criminals?
Ignorance of what those underneath you are doing is a feature, not a bug, of any bureaucracy. So the answer to your question is, What torture?
I haven't done this in a long time, so I may be a little rusty, but are you fucking stupid? Just which part of incorporating torture as a part of national policy do you not understand? It was done in plain sight with numerous press conferences to misdefine the word "torture" to try to squirm out of prosecution over the years. Are you wearing a fucking nappy as you type on your mum's computer because you're too young to remember what happened less than 5 years ago?
The heavily redacted CIA report came out a couple of days ago. So basically, you've just told us that you're a ripe cunt who can't read. Go suck on something you piece of filth. I've had over a decade of arguing with sociopathic cunts who encouraged, condoned, or otherwise disbelieved the reports coming out of detention centres where inmates were waterboarded to the point of losing their minds if they were lucky, and if they were not lucky they were boiled alive in CIA stations in Afghanistan and Uzbekistan. They called these criminally insane acts, "terminal interrogation". If there is any justice in the world, every single subhuman sick bastard who ever supported the torture of suspects should experience it for themselves for the rest of their short lives.
I had a snappy joke about how buzzwords make everything A-OK, but holy hell I just can't. This entire thing sickens me, but for me the worst is that noone will ever suffer the consequences of this unamerican and cowarly spineless act of allowing it. How in the hell can you even look the other way knowing it's going on?
We accidentaly tortured some folks
Thx. How many terminally sick assholes like nuubee infest this planet?
Rumsfeld, "take the gloves off"
Ignorance? WTF are you talking about?
You're just figuring this out?
The fact is that the International war crimes tribunal, an offshoot of the UN legislation on genocide and war crimes, initiated by the USA at Nuremberg, and subsequently applied to Milosovic (amongst others), cannot be applied to US citizens.
As the US has not ratified this Tribunal as being supranational to its own laws; aka its supranational to Serbia and Liberia's laws, but not to those of the USA !
Thats called having DOUBLE VALUES in the field on International Law.
But thats not new, for a Universal Bill of Rights that was voted in 1948 and then NEVER integrated by the Big 4 UN countries in their own legislation. Cheney and GWB know that.
Cheney's retort to that is...So? I don't give a fuck...
GITMO is bad; droning is good.
.
Why yes, yes it does.
Cheney has already come out and said Bush knew all about it.. (are his book sales that bad?)
They already lied multiple times..
They all know about it.
Que up a "we can admit our mistakes" and a "from the lessons learned" speech.
War crimes... thats funny.

CIA Cited Israeli Court Rulings to Justify Torture
The report revealed that the Agency’s lawyers used the rulings from Israel's Supreme Court to construct a legal case to justify the illegal interrogation methods.

Yes, National Review, We Did Execute Japanese for Waterboarding
In a CNN debate with Ari Fleischer, I said the United States executed Japanese war criminals for waterboarding. My point was that it is disingenuous for Bush Republicans to argue that waterboarding is not torture and thus illegal. It's kind of awkward to argue that waterboarding is not a crime when you hanged someone for doing it to our troops. My precise words were: "Our country executed Japanese soldiers who waterboarded American POWs. We executed them for the same crime we are now committing ourselves."

Just curious when Ofuckwit of the "I'll shut down Gitmo" fame will get his Nobel retracted, on the basis that it was in part do to this bullshit claim that got him the prize in the first place. Cunt.
Can't unring bells. I see panic .
.
I'm sure that, if asked, they'd say that they would gladly give their life for the sake of their country.
It's that time, boys.
To be honest, it's nice to see that all of the things we learned from the Nazis we helped escape from Germany didn't go to waste.
Following WWII, the US Military Tribunal tortured German POWs held at Dachau for the Malmedy Trial. Mock executions, crushed testicles, etc. We didn't need Nazis to teach us anything.
Obama is the most demoralizing leader in human history. This report is more of the same, nothing positive can or will come from it.
I honestly agree with your assessment of Obama. He's destroyed any hope of "hope" or any chance of "change" to be brought about by any democratically-elected leader. We'll get change, but not in a good way.
I also agree with your assessment of this torturous torture report. Nothing positive will come out of it. The few of us who have dignity will decry the torture, while the right-wing and its apologists will defend it tooth-and-nail.
We should have put these war criminals and human rights abusers on trial when we had the chance. A *true* leader positing hope and change would have done so.
We need polyfilla to cover up the cracks in this lying cunt's face, not a polygraph.
AMERICA! FUCK YEAH
That report is a huge whitewash, might as well add it to the heap with the 911 commision report.
Moar distraction.
Torture has been going on for thousands of years. But it's gonna stop today... LOL!!!
Good thing we're the only ones in the world who do this... Other countries don't torture people.. Not at all.

CIA Director John Brennan: They made me do it by gun point.
speaking for the Obama administration
and other "patriots", Brennan has stated :
http://www.counterpunch.org/2014/12/10/torture-is-good/
Brennan actually got up in public and said, openly, that torture did work and that it’s a good thing:
“Our review indicates that interrogations of detainees on whom EITs were used did produce intelligence that helped thwart attack plans, capture terrorists, and save lives. The intelligence gained from the program was critical to our understanding of al-Qaida and continues to inform our counterterrorism efforts to this day,” Brennan said.
...
Brennan — Obama’s confidante — says, in the name of the president, that torture “saved lives.” What’s more, he admits that Obama is still using the fruits of the torture program to “inform our counterterrorism efforts to this day.”
Let’s say this again: the conclusion of the Barack Obama administration is that the use of torture is a good thing, and that it is still “informing” its Terror War operations “to this day.”
The obvious conclusion for the torturers is that, regardless of Constitutional and treaty prohibitions, torture is a valuable tool "to keep us safe" abroad,
so why not have DHS practice the same at home, to keep us "safe"?
Laws are no obstacle to protecting us all against imagined threats.
US overseas "warriors" already have immunity from prosecution for alleged "crimes" commited against "insurgents" in the countries invaded and occupied by the US.
So why not have the Homeland "warrior" police enjoy the same immunity?
Don't give them any ideas.
Some people chose George ‘The Torturer’ Bush by voting for 'the lesser of two evils'.
CIA Director John Brennan, we would like to have you take an old version of a polygraph test standard. Which do you prefer?
Lies about 9/11 to start the statement. Everyone knows 9/11 was false flag:

Oh so it is all Bush fault. It all stopped with Oboma!
What damns the CIA is the perseverance with torture long after they knew that torture was not giving them any new or reliable information.
America is living through its most evil period.
God protect all of us and the innocent people of America who have been cornered by a two wolves party.
But he just told us that the CIA think it produced useful information or something!
I wonder if he finaly found whos running the drug market in Afganistan?

Evil has always been present, it is that a few with basic research skills and some critical thinking are coming into awareness.
Most other countries are worse. Does not mean we should accept it but really what the hell can anyone do about it???? Just Alex Jones, mostly true observations but no idea on how to stop any of it.
9/11 torture 9/11 we didn't mean it 9/11 these are non harmful torture tactics 9/11 we only torture people with love and unicorn farts 9/11 credible threats against all 6 billion people on planet 9/11 we only wanted to make everyone safe when they go shopping and when they go buy cars 9/11 we tried to stop it 9/11 remember how scared you were 9/11 it could happen again 9/11 pay no attention to your financials and how fucked up you are 9/11 torture was not really torture, I swear 9/11 remeber how you felt 9/11 remeber all those who died 9/11 we have to save the planet from the barbaric evil islamic torturers by torturing them first 9/11 evil doers 9/11 we had to save the S&P.

5 minutes of this lying fuck.
I'm out of here. Time to see the other cunts vote for the people to carry the banksters dervatives bag of shit.
This world is FUCKED.
These people are sick fucks. They get a kick out of torturing people. It has nothing to do with "serving our country". Maybe Americans should stop letting psychopaths run our nation?
yep we should let the muslims run it...because they are more nice. maybe you guys forgot that terrorists don't annouce before hand they are going to kill lots of people. These are bad people....that follow no laws or rules of engagement. Even the japanese and Germans followed some laws of engagement. Too bad if we punished them. Go watch one of their berathen behead people!
How would you get them to talk?
This 20/20 hindsight stuff is Bullshit!
Mr. Venturen - here is a script we'd like you to read. Please, allow me to lay your testicles flat against a table while threateningly holding a sledgehammer in my hand. Meanwhile, a friend of mine will be waterboarding you. Yet another pal of mine will be applying leeches to your eyeballs (which, by the way, are being kept open "A Clockwork Orange" style) as another buddy of mine rectally feeds you.
That script we gave you to read: how long do you think it would take - how much pain would you endure - before you read it back to us, verbatim?
Hmmmmm????
"maybe you guys forgot that terrorists don't annouce before hand they are going to kill lots of people. These are bad people....that follow no laws or rules of engagement."
Well, the U.S. certainly didn't announce that it was going to kill lots of people before we killed 8,000,000 in completely NON-DEFENSIVE actions since WWII, if that's what you mean...
Maybe? Yesterday was too late.
Doesn't the activity of war include killing people? We dropped the bomb on civilians in Japan to end a war so what exactly is a war crime???
War crimes are determined by whichever side wins the war.
.
Ummm, no. The Japanese had been seeking surrender terms since early 1945. Truman dropped the bomb on Japan not to end a war but to demonstrate the effects on a real city, once for the uranium bomb and once for the plutonium bomb.
I think you already know.
so I assume you guys are all for letting Khalid Sheikh Mohammed go?
See my above reply to you, twat.

Pelosi: we had to pass it to see what was in it.
CIA: we had to do it to see if it was torture; we continued after finding it to be worthless because we go into it . . . and . . . 911.
I was kind of hoping for a "Bud Dwyer" ending to this news conference.
I love how there is all this outrage over torturing people, meanwhile, now we're just killing them from 6,000ft and anyone that might be within a 100 feet of them and nothing. No outrage, no charges and no accountability. Nothing changes in this country until the general public views its government's actions in a more realistic and objective light. Sadly, that would require people to accept that the US is the "evil empire" it constantly rails against.
At the time, I was astonished by the influence of the TV show "24" on the opinions and attitudes of my fellow Americans. I am not naive; I know that every nation, and particularly every nation that has become an Empire, uses torture as a matter of course. They may call it other things, or bicker about the level at which torture becomes Torture, but they all do it. Traditionally, it has been part of America's cultural mythology that we are above that sort of thing. Whenever it has happened, it has been due to "a few bad apples," or more rarely, "boys who have seen terrible things and were a little out of their minds."
After 9/11/01, that all changed. I'm not discussing here whether or not the Official Narrative is to be believed. It was hugely influential, and has shaped the nation's psyche irrevocably. So for purposes of discussion, the effect it had has been real enough that it doesn't matter whether or not it was true as related.
I was amazed. For one thing, I had horribly underestimated my country's capacity to cherish ignorance and a false sense of security, and moreover our thirst to wallow in self-pity. The media theme of "Why Do They Hate Us?" stunned me. They told us why they hated us. Not for our freedoms. For our support of Israel, military bases in Saudi Arabia, and support for the House of Saud. That's what fucking Osama bin Laden said, over and over, throughout the 1990s. He said if we didn't knock that shit off, he'd come up with a way to attack us, and that would trigger the counterattack by us that would end up over-reaching terribly and ultimately destroying us. That's what he said. And let's consider, was he more right about that than wrong?
Then the show "24" came on. I only watched a couple of episodes, though it was the sort of thing that appealed to me. What I saw was mind-poison for a warlike people bent on feeling sorry for themselves. As that show became a hit, I started hearing otherwise sensible and morally functional people making excuses for torture, massacres and all manner of barbarity. I started hearing the formerly despised "Moral Equivalence" arguments, the ludicrous "Ticking Bomb scenario" trotted out as a practical thing, not just a fallacious mind-teaser for undergrads and precocious teenagers.
Worst of all, I saw us as a nation reject our own moral standards and replace them with the standards of our enemies. We feared, loathed and despised them so much we convinced ourselves we had to sink not to their level, but we actually had to be worse than them. We had to horrify them with our implacable vengeance or they'd do it again and again.
Never mind that there was nothing particularly new about terrorism. Nor was there anything new about the idea of America having enemies. Even an airborne Sneak Attack wasn't new. Attacks by "Al Quaeda" on US interests weren't new. But for some reason, we were willing to let ourselves be persuaded that what happened on 9/11/01 required us to reject everything we had used to think made America worth preserving, in order to preserve America. And "24" became America's favorite TV show, for its nearly pornographic depictions of adrenaline-fueled violence, including torture.
Of course the torturers used the same justifications, down to the terminology, of the Nazis, Israelis, South Africans, Soviet Russians, and all the other purveyors of torture in the modern age. When one pursues a trade, one must learn and use the official vocabulary.
Of course torture never yields worthwhile intelligence, nor does it ever prevent anything, nor does it do anything but instill terror in the civilian populace both at home and abroad. That's what its purpose is, and at that it works very well. The "intelligence" gleaned is useless; it's whatever a person being tortured can think up to say in the hopes it's what the torture wants to hear and will make the pain stop. No more, no less. No amount of torture ever made somebody know more about a plot than they had known before. And everybody involved in plots already knew that if captured by Americans, they would be tortured to death, either quickly or slowly. They added provisions to their planning to account for that. Just as the Irish did when confronting the British, the Algerians vs. the French, the Vietnamese in dealing with, again, the US.
It's a total crock of shit. And the measure of how depraved and doomed America's Empire and cultural mythology now are is that nothing will come of this, except repercussions against those who want to expose what everyone already knows. The Empire tortures. Because the Empire wants to. And the Empire wants you to know that it can and will torture you, if it ever feels like it, and there is nothing you can do about it. That is the only purpose of torture. It's distasteful to see how many Americans really like that sort of thing.
Accurate and well spoken.
+100
More so by watching death and evil on TeeVee, it makes us feel that we are safer and there are people working for our best interests.
In 24 Jack Bauer was the usual super hero like the thousands before him and the ones yet to come. Same ole fiction shit.
THe world is one big pot of boiling water. On occasion it boils over, but never stops boiling.
From what I see and read the rest of the world (Europe, Asia, Africa) would actually prefer peace after dozens of wars, but somehow the USA psychopats want to rule the planet by fucking up things far abroad, killing lot of people and serving the US and people lies of their superiority and exceptionality.
"24" is crude statist propaganda. It's disgraceful that such a show could become so popular.
I suppose that's why Cramer promoted so.
Tell me there's no agenda/plot.
As I mentioned in another post, we deserved 9/11. Sorry you didn't realize that...
I think you may have misunderstood me. Not hard to do; I can be pretty long-winded when I have a nuanced point to make.
I agree with you.
Sorry...I shouldn't have added the snarky part...
How did we deserve 911, when we had our Saudi lackeys execute it?
What am I missing?
Sorry, but the CIA lost crediblity years ago with the overthrow of Mossadegh in '52 ........all I hear is bullshit and see only bloody drool coming out of his mouth.
... and not to forget Watergate and Iraq-WDM. Next lies: Ukraine?
We tortured some folks while they just passed legislation to gather ALL data you send and receive and use it anyway they want including giving it to law enforcement. Such hypocrisy. No expense should be spared to remove these cretins. RINO's especially.
Do people legitimately believe that there is a "civilized" way to conduct a war?
The bombs, rockets, IEDs, and bullets do horrible things to people - much more horrible things than the torture described does. War is unfortunately sometimes necessary. Then why is one form of violence OK but another, torture, is not?
Is it because the US is a signatory to various international treaties that protect prisoners? Those treaties require certain behaviors from the captured as well as the capturers. If our enemy does not abide by the treaties, why is the United States expected to abide by the treaties?
Again, fighting a war does more violence to humans than waterboarding, but violence in a war is morally accepted, so there is no moral objection to violence (except by Quakers and other absolute pacificsts). So it must be a legal objection to torture, which is surely invalidated when one side breaks those rules, right?
To be clear, I don't like torture any more than I like war, I'm just saying that there's not a clear logic chain for people to say that war is (sometimes) morally justified but torture is never morally justified.
Most of US citizens can simply not face what they truly are so they keep inventing stories.
Funny how some people love to cling to their beliefs when facts are slapping them in the face.
So why did they arrest, convict and execute Timothy McVeigh, or any other bomber or assassin? If torture's okay, and maiming people with ordnance is okay--in other words, if anything goes--then shouldn't bombing and assassination be okay, too? Timothy McVeigh believed he was fighting a war--who's to tell him differently? The United States doesn't declare wars anymore, so why should anyone else? If anything goes, ANYTHING goes, right? What about murdering children in Nazi death camps? I can only assume that you're good with that, right?
TM was a pasty same as LHO.
I was going to correct that typo to patsy and then I had a vision.
LOL
This is an online psychopathy test. It tests for human empathy, rationalizations for violence etc. http://personality-testing.info/tests/LSRP.php
This is just Blame it on Bush 2.0.
We EIT'd some people......ain't that cute.
I read this book recently "The wisdom of psychopaths, what saints, spies and serial killers can teach us about success." It deals more with your high functioning types.
Apparently, these bastards go into some type of zone that is meditative during crisis, this is why they make such good traders, sugeons etc, they're as cool as ice when everyone else is shitting bricks. Some interesting quotes from compiled studies in the book:
"You'll find them in any organization where status affords power over others and material gain." "Organizational chaos provides the necessary stimulation for thrill seeking and sufficient cover for manipulation and abusive behavior."
"An intoxication that sharpens rather than dulls the senses." While others physiological outputs hit the roof "his measures are pooling below his baseline", "hypnotically deep code red of extreme and ruthless focus."
"Anchoring thoughts unswervingly in the present is a cognitive discipline that psychopathy and spiritual enlightenment have in common."
Creepy!
I've run across a couple of stone cold psychopaths, all in workplace business environments. Lucky for me, a couple of them were kind of dumb. Luckier still, the incredibly intelligent one I did encounter knew right away that I knew him for what he was, and when I made clear I would leave and not tell anybody, that amused him enough he let me go. I kept my word, and so did he.
I may have run across a couple outside of work, but shied away. After a while and a few contacts, you start to gain a "Spidey Sense" that tickles the back of your mind and directs you the hell away from monsters like that. When you realize the person you're dealing with is a psychopath, it's like that moment in every Dracula movie where young Jonathon Harker realizes the odd, sophisticated and urbane Count is in fact a horrifying vampire. Once you see it, you can't un-see it. And you can't ever act the same way, which the monster immediately recognizes and knows exactly why. That's the absolutely last second to get out unscathed, and it's such a jarring moment, you tend to freeze and miss the opportunity to flee. Bad scene for you.
"Ve have vays uf making you talk!"
C'mon reporters, ask this one:
"Mr. Brennan, why did the CIA have John F. Kennedy assasinated?"
I still digress , strap that motherfucker in the back of a M5 BWM. He will live in fear and cough up all information. Plague him, so he thinks he’s life is about to expire. Example, CIA Director John Brennan = Madonna Government attention whore who got caught taking the cookie from the cookie jar. Bet he feels like clambering marbles in a sack? Enjoy!
Madonna - BMW M5 Commercial
This entire episode merely confirms what I've always believed: We RICHLY DESERVED 9/11.
Those folks (the "tortured" folks) burned a large number of other folks alive, made a fair number of folks, male and female, jump out of windows 100 stories high to their deaths, and then turned an even greater number of folks into microscopic hamburger. Lately friends and fellow warriors of those folks have been cutting off folk's heads on film, enslaving folks, shooting folks, executing folks, throwing gay folks off of buildings, and have never stopped searching for a way to turn even more folks into microscopic hamburger.
Our allies, the Suadis, did all that...??
I get confused easily....
LOL...and I bet you also believe that before 9/11, those people put blindfolds on, plunked their fingers down on a world atlas, landed randomly on the United States, and then said, "We're going to attack THOSE people."
Right out of the gate he was talking about the big, bad Al-Qaida threat post 9/11...
...am I dense, or hasn't it been pretty much debunked that Al-Qaida had anything to do with 9/11??
