Only weeks after Australia broke up a plan by ISIS to publicly behead a member of public, reports suggest 2 gunmen are holding 13 hostages at a Lindt coffee-shop in Sydney, Australia. The terrorists have shown a black jihadist flag - which is not an IS flag - and has paraded the hostages at the windows. The coffee shop is directly across the street from the Reserve Bank of Australia.

As Reuters reports,

Hostages were being held inside a central Sydney cafe where a black flag with white Arabic writing could be seen in the window, local television showed on Monday, raising fears of an attack linked to Islamic militants.

Australia, which is backing the United States and its escalating action against Islamic State in Syria and Iraq, is on high alert for attacks by radicalized Muslims or by home-grown fighters returning from fighting in the Middle East.

Part of Martin Place, home to the Reserve Bank of Australia, commercial banks and close to the New South Wales (NSW) state parliament, was closed off by armed police.

Live television footage showed patrons inside a cafe standing with their hands pressed against the windows. A black and white flag similar to those used by Islamic State militants in Iraq and Syria was also visible.

NSW Police tweeted: "A police operation is underway in Martin Place, Sydney's CBD. People are advised to avoid the area."

Dozens of police including a SWAT team were setting up and a couple of hundred people were being held back by cordons.

@HH,

If his religion is your point, allow me to give ponderance here.

The DC shipyard/Batman incident is similar in the theme of MK ultra. Look no further than the "Lilly Wave". It's what smart meters are for. Many of these so called nut cases hearing voices can counter it. Best analogy is yawning to pop the ears as in a pressurized plane cabin.

Yes, I'm confused.  Our PM took our guns twice but we have had plenty of shootings since then.  And now we are being terrorized by gunmen.  We got fifty million CCTV cameras all over the city but they all saw nothing.

Maybe we should try having guns and no CCTV cameras.  See if that works.

Given that these are Muslim terrorists there is virtually no chance that anyone will get out alive. It is probably the plan of the terrorist to have everything end in a grand ball of flame, bullets and dust captured worldwide on video.

If I was in there I would be doing UA Flight 93 stuff. They are going to have to try and effect their own escape or rescue no matter how it turns out. These guys are suicidal and it is doubtful they want to do some sort of hostage swap.

I wish them well and hope there are a couple alpha-types in there somewhere and not to close to the beta's.

A girl who was burned beyond recognition by a U.S. drone and left for
dead in a trashcan is about to undergo reconstructive surgery.

Hellfire thermobaric warhead using a metal augmented explosive charge
is used primarily in urban warfare, against bunkers, buildings caves
and other concealed targets. This warhead is designed to inflict greater
damage in multi-room structures, compared to the Hellfire's standard or
blast-fragmentation warheads. The Metal Augmented Charge or MAC
(Thermobaric) Hellfire, designated AGM-114N, has completed rapid
development cycle in 2002 and was deployed during OIF by US Marines
Helicopters in Iraq. The new warhead contains a fluorinated aluminum powder that is layered between the warhead casing and the PBXN-112 explosive fill. When the explosive detonates, the aluminum mixture is dispersed and rapidly burns.
The resultant sustained high pressure is extremely effective against
enemy personnel and structures. The AGM-114N is designed for deployment
from helicopters such as the AH-1W or UAVs such as the Predator drones.

An excerpt from

They Thought They Were Free

"What no one seemed to notice," said a colleague of mine, a
philologist, "was the ever widening gap, after 1933, between the
government and the people. Just think how very wide this gap was to
begin with, here in Germany. And it became always wider. You know, it
doesn’t make people close to their government to be told that this is a
people’s government, a true democracy, or to be enrolled in civilian
defense, or even to vote. All this has little, really nothing, to do
with knowing one is governing.

"What happened here was the gradual habituation of the people, little
by little, to being governed by surprise; to receiving decisions
deliberated in secret; to believing that the situation was so
complicated that the government had to act on information which the
people could not understand, or so dangerous that, even if the people
could not understand it, it could not be released because of national
security. And their sense of identification with Hitler, their trust in
him, made it easier to widen this gap and reassured those who would
otherwise have worried about it.

"This separation of government from people, this widening of the gap,
took place so gradually and so insensibly, each step disguised (perhaps
not even intentionally) as a temporary emergency measure or associated
with true patriotic allegiance or with real social purposes. And all the
crises and reforms (real reforms, too) so occupied the people that they
did not see the slow motion underneath, of the whole process of
government growing remoter and remoter.

"You will understand me when I say that my Middle High German was my
life. It was all I cared about. I was a scholar, a specialist. Then,
suddenly, I was plunged into all the new activity, as the university was
drawn into the new situation; meetings, conferences, interviews,
ceremonies, and, above all, papers to be filled out, reports,
bibliographies, lists, questionnaires. And on top of that were the
demands in the community, the things in which one had to, was ‘expected
to’ participate that had not been there or had not been important
before. It was all rigmarole, of course, but it consumed all one’s
energies, coming on top of the work one really wanted to do. You can see
how easy it was, then, not to think about fundamental things. One had
no time."

"Those," I said, "are the words of my friend the baker. ‘One had no time to think. There was so much going on.’"

"Your friend the baker was right," said my colleague. "The
dictatorship, and the whole process of its coming into being, was above
all diverting. It provided an excuse not to think for people who
did not want to think anyway. I do not speak of your ‘little men,’ your
baker and so on; I speak of my colleagues and myself, learned men, mind
you. Most of us did not want to think about fundamental things and never
had. There was no need to. Nazism gave us some dreadful, fundamental
things to think about—we were decent people—and kept us so busy with
continuous changes and ‘crises’ and so fascinated, yes, fascinated, by
the machinations of the ‘national enemies,’ without and within, that we
had no time to think about these dreadful things that were growing,
little by little, all around us. Unconsciously, I suppose, we were
grateful. Who wants to think?

"To live in this process is absolutely not to be able to notice
it—please try to believe me—unless one has a much greater degree of
political awareness, acuity, than most of us had ever had occasion to
develop. Each step was so small, so inconsequential, so well explained
or, on occasion, ‘regretted,’ that, unless one were detached from the
whole process from the beginning, unless one understood what the whole
thing was in principle, what all these ‘little measures’ that no
‘patriotic German’ could resent must some day lead to, one no more saw
it developing from day to day than a farmer in his field sees the corn
growing. One day it is over his head.

"How is this to be avoided, among ordinary men, even highly educated
ordinary men? Frankly, I do not know. I do not see, even now. Many, many
times since it all happened I have pondered that pair of great maxims, Principiis obsta and Finem respice—‘Resist
the beginnings’ and ‘Consider the end.’ But one must foresee the end in
order to resist, or even see, the beginnings. One must foresee the end
clearly and certainly and how is this to be done, by ordinary men or
even by extraordinary men?
Things might have. And everyone counts on that might.

"Your ‘little men,’ your Nazi friends, were not against National
Socialism in principle. Men like me, who were, are the greater
offenders, not because we knew better (that would be too much to say) but because we sensed
better.
Pastor Niemöller spoke for the thousands and thousands of men
like me when he spoke (too modestly of himself) and said that, when the
Nazis attacked the Communists, he was a little uneasy, but, after all,
he was not a Communist, and so he did nothing; and then they attacked
the Socialists, and he was a little uneasier, but, still, he was not a
Socialist, and he did nothing; and then the schools, the press, the
Jews, and so on, and he was always uneasier, but still he did nothing.
And then they attacked the Church, and he was a Churchman, and he did
something—but then it was too late."

"Yes," I said.

Thanks HH, I'm adding that one to the reading list. I'm about 20% into "Rise and Fall of the Third Reich" by Shirer. I've been looking into how National Socialism really got started and why it was never stopped in Germany. It's striking how little it really took for the Nazis to gain control of a supposedly democratic government in 1933, despite never having a popular majority.

It is hard to have empathy for people who do not even value their own lives, much less others. War is an ugly thing and unfortunately it will be won by whoever is willing to what must be done. What is, cannot be changed or undone. We can have empathy for a person or groups cause but still recognize that their solution, their remedy is not compatible with our own survival. Does anyone, anywhere, believe that if "the West" absolutely capitulated, retreated, surrendered or lay face down in the dirt, that Islamists would stop their aggression, their murder, their radicalization of their children?

A policy of holding hands and singing of brotherly love is too little too late. Wake up and see whats coming. This is a multifront attack. The multicultural, politically correct elite are telling us to lay down our defenses, curb our hateful tongue, pay more patriotic taxes, and buy the fucking dip. Our government is not far off from enabling culture zones as in Europe, where police are not allowed to tread, be it Ferguson or McAllen, or Dearborn.

I think I know what empathy means.

We can all agree that there has been much evil and as always, it is ALWAYS seen as justified, be it dropping a bomb from a mile up or with a knee in your back, sawing at your neck. People never learn from history yet can recall a perceived injustice from three thousand years back and are still seeking justice.

Too many here would like to believe that it all started with America but our only real contribution is scale. Bigger and badder and yes it will end badly for everyone, but as we see, it has taken a life of its own. Not America...the whole fucking murderous world. All seeking to either survive or bit more likely, WIN. It is the American people that are the only ones who do not want to win. We don't want to torture, we don't want to bomb, we don't want boots on the ground. We just want it to all go away. But guess what...its not. Its too late for that. The hornet's nest of the world has been kicked and the murderous vengeful insects are attacking.

You can sit back and enjoy another fine rabbit diner with fresh home grown veggies, secure in your simultaneous self righteousness and infinite guilt.

Sun, 12/14/2014 - 22:57 | 5552130 Oldwood

Empathy does not mean that I will surrender to their wishes, regardless of how justified they feel. Have you paid any attention to THEIR crimes against humanity, or is it only your desire to suggest America is the only perpetrator here? I will retain my ultimate empathy to those nearest and dearest to me. Its far too late to believe we can end this with "empathy". You fail to understand the history of humanity and it is clear..., empathy is ultimately seen as weakness. Ask ANY radical Muslim...go ahead, ask them. None of them will even coyly imply that our "empathy" will buy us a second of their mercy.

You may believe that your high moral ground combined with your abilities to live off the land will save you, but in the eyes of these radicals, you or no better than Cheney. As a matter of fact, they probably respect Cheney more.

I suggest a blind fool with no history would take your position. In virtually all of the Middle East it is their own people in charge of their own countries. They were more peaceable and probably had more rights and protections as colonies. Once given their freedom it is up to them what they become.

The whole "Christian butchering" thing is stupid on it's face. There is no Christian crusade, no forced conversions, none have been added to the Holy Roman Empire or forced to swear allegiance to the Vatican. There has not been any comparable kafir policies for Muslims.

Their countries are their own fault. Europeans have been everywhere in the world from China, to the S. Pacific to S. America. No one has turned out like the Middle East. You migth notice that even America was colonized by Europeans, British, French, Dutch, Spanish and so on.

If they want to be pissed off about history then maybe the Brits should invade the Viking homelands or the Teutons should exact revenge on the Huns or Mongols or Goths. Maybe the Hutu's and Tutsi's should keep killing each other.

It matters not if there is an "official crusade".

All that matters is white people who happen to be christian and don't fucking belong there invade their countries and butcher their families over lies and only to control resources/ gain a geopolitical advantage.

They may happen to think the invaders are crusading due to the fact the invaders happen to be christian, but thats circumstantial. The fact of the matter is WE are INVADING them and KILLING their families. And that's what angers them and causes terrorism back here, and rightfully so.

Honestly, if you put yourself in their shoes how could you not understand why they do what they do and think what they think. WE are the fucking invading aggressive POS. Wake the fuck up

I understand why Mexicans want to sneak into America, but I don't have to give them a job or entitlements (or maybe I do).

I understand why black Americans are resentful of whites, but that does not mean I have to give them preferential treatment (or maybe I do).

I understand why people hate other people and many would like to see others dead, but that does not mean I must lay down and die (or maybe I do).............

If I'm ruled by a brain dead multicultural progressive who sees white America as the devil (or at least tells us we are in order to perpetuate guilt AND animosity to create even further divisions in our society.

Its working.

I suggest you are the one asleep. If America and the West in general wants to take anything there are no powers that can stop us. If we want to level twelve Taliban or ISIS controlled cities tomorrow at 4pm in order to be done by dinner...they cannot stop us. If we want to "invade" (again) and kill all their families, we have the ability.

However, we don't, we didn't and we probably won't. They are still alive and still killing each other and as many of us as they can get to, even the Westerners who come there to actually (and stupidly) help them.

You cannot tell the difference between Genghis Khan who actually really stacked up entire cities full of bodies in the Middle East and the Western armies. You might remember that we even helped them long ago against the godless, leftist Soviets. They they turned on us as a sort of "Fuck you, thank you infidels."

You may want to hate America, the West, Western civilization or even any government that is non-leftist. Just do it. You don't have to make crap up to justify it. Just say that Muslims are really wonderful people except for the fact that we were there. Apart from us, they probably did not even know what war and head chopping were all about.

Just don't expect anyone outside your common delusion to join your party.

No, Democracy is a form of government based on a philosophy. So is communism. So is monarchy. So is theocracy. It is a form of government that seems to be currently impossible for Muslim countries anywhere in the world. A good guess would be that it is because of their culture and belief systems which do not support any type of plualism.

You know what really frightened me about the torture report - there were roughly four groups of Americans:

1. Those who support using torture or think it is a good idea when necessity to extract - larger group of Americans than you think and if you use some of the polls results is somewhere between 20-25%; either people with real mental issues and/or never have been exposed to violence

2. Those who debated that torture was justified in this case - roughtly along partisan lines and because the US said it was 'legal' it was okay and we largely stopped; GOP partisan hacks or Democrats who just don't want to question some ugly shit we did or are continuing to do including reports last year in Somalia.  Put this at a smaller group and some overlap with group 1.

3. Those who were indifferent - Most of Americans.  Out of sight, out of mind and since it was brown people who weren't Americans.  Too bad for them. Say 40-50%.

4. Those who legimiately are really disturbed by this shit by not only the scope but the scale of it; say 10-20% who realize who the torture was, how much of it was based upon junk science from theoretical conditions with lab animals (mainly dog experiments from the 60s), and were really disturbed how the US outsourced this shit to US contractors who were paid hundreds of millions of dollars to systemitically abduct, torture, and detain people with no trials for an indeterminate period.

Like it or not, the world is at war on multiple fronts, and you WILL need to eventually choose sides, none of which you will like. Don't know if you have noticed but it is always those in the middle, thinking they have secured the higher moral ground, who get murdered first.

Does anyone think that pacifism will save their lives and those of their friends, family and countrymen? Governments start wars and it is up to the individual to survive it.

Mon, 12/15/2014 - 03:15 | 5552624 Tall Tom
Tall Tom's picture

It is up to the individual to do what he believes to be moral.

For some it may mean fight.

For others it may mean die.

For the vast majority life will just go on as it did in Occupied France and as it does in Occupied America.

Hell the Allies destroyed more of France than the Nazis...

The French surrendered in 1940 and many of her cities were spared the horrors of warfare until the Allied Invasion happened with the Western Front being established.

Then the French found out what the war was really about..just as the Soviets had experienced from May, 1941.

History is written by the victor and they often allow this inconvenient truth go unreported.

(I am not writing that I, in any way, shape, manner, or form, supported the Nazi Occupation of France or support the current Occupation of America. Fuck the subversion of Operation Paperclip. I am just reporting an inconvenient truth.)

But the point is that most will opt not to fight.  As for me I will probably be amongst the first to die. Same as it ever was.
