Caught On Tape: What Happens When A California Driver Finally Snaps
In the idyllic foothills of the Sierras amid the forested beauty of Tahoe National Forest, it appears the California drought finally got to Deirdre Orozco. As the following crazy clip shows, the 50-year-old Santa Clara woman went full Mad Max on two young female drivers after they reportedly made "a rude gesture" to Orozco after she had been tailgating. The dramatic cellphone video of the event has ended with Orozco being charged with two counts of assault with a deadly weapon, two counts of false imprisonment, unlawful use of a badge, reckless driving and resisting arrest. A Northern California woman made her first court appearance Tuesday after a road rage incident was captured in a dramatic cellphone video that showed a vehicle forcing a car off a mountain highway.
Two women frantically called the California Highway Patrol on Saturday afternoon to report that they were being repeatedly cut off by the driver of a Ford Explorer Sport Trac pickup truck on Interstate 80, about 60 miles northeast of Sacramento.
"She just hit our car, she just hit our car. She's pushing us off of the road. Yes, she's pushing us off the road. She's coming for us," passenger Delanie Strykul tells a CHP dispatcher on the video, her voice shaking. "Please help us."
The video shows the Explorer forcing their Mazda onto the shoulder as the Mazda's driver screams.
"I could not believe this was real. I was sitting there going, 'This has to be a joke,'" Strykul told The Associated Press on Tuesday.

The suspect, Deirdre Orozco, 50, of Santa Clara, was charged with two counts of assault with a deadly weapon, two counts of false imprisonment, unlawful use of a badge, reckless driving and resisting arrest.
She was held in lieu of $250,000 bail and was due back in court Friday after pleading not guilty to multiple charges from two incidents days apart.

The two in the Mazda were obviously scared sh*tless when things got weird. The passenger had the presence of mind to call the cops, follow their instructions, coach the driver, and video the incident. Given that she was obviously in a situation that had had her totally freaked out, and stuck as a passenger and not even in control of the car, she did rather well, IMHO.
Easy as it would have been to splatter the other driver all over the landscape with their car, they did the right thing at the end of the day. They also got lucky. Big truck puts little Mazda in the ditch upside down, unless little Mazda driver knows exactly what to do. Crazy truck driver could have used a weapon on them. There could have been no cops for miles and miles.
I have a feeling that two gals in a Mazda won't be flipping off any other drivers anytime soon, and the crazy in the pickup truck will not be out on the roads anytime soon. So two good things come out of this.

Welcome to the roads of California. With more and more cars, and more gridlock, road rage is very common. I have lived my entire life in this State and I am counting the days until I leave--this type of incident is not the only reason I am getting out of Dodge, of course, but the unpleasantness associated with gridlock is definitely a factor.

The charge was "unlawful use of a badge" vs "impersonating a police officer" so she might well be.
People with an authority complex or other psycho tendencies often apply for law enforcement work. They get screened out (hopefully) then apply to the next level down where the screening isn't as rigorous. Customs dept. prison guards, by-law officers, etc. By the time you're down to mall cop or dogcatcher, you've got some real head cases on the job.

Without the video, the case against the freak would likely be considered circumstantial (except the resisting arrest charge). If you haven't installed video recorders around your home and in your vehicle, you might consider doing so.

My daughter has an extremely low tolerance level for imbeciles and grossly impolite behavior.

It is almost always man vs man road raging, however, which makes this incident kind of interesting. Also, the woman rager in this case appears to be a methamphetamine user- those people have a tendancy to snap.

I'm with another poster. If you don't have a dashcam installed in your vehicle you're an idiot. I put one in six of my vehicles for both personal and business use, a DOD403W. You get full video and audio running all the time the vehicle is in motion. Downlad from a miniSD card and it's like watching HD video complete with time stamp, speed and GPS location. Available with front and optional rear camera running simultaneously. In case of an at-fault accident...just pull the camera off the mount and throw it in the console. lmfao.

Dash cams are the greatest thing to come along in decades. Well worth the $. I wished I'd bought them years ago. I could have used the evidence against a cop's son who did nearly the same thing (w/o hitting) that this nut did. Don't leave home w/o one. Rear window is more important than front, IMO. Front is more likely to incriminate you for not yielding the right of way.
You would have the opportunity to review all evidence with your counsel prior to declaring it.
Because no one else would notice the dash cam bracket mount and ask about it, right? As these things become more common, you don't think that everyone is going to be looking for them, including accident investigators?

Only problem with this is that cam can work against you as well as for you. I hope you don't make any expensive mistakes -- because now they're all on camera. Roseville police said Orozco also had been arrested three days earlier but was freed while prosecutors weighed charges from that incident.
Police say a woman identified as Orozco first hit a driver at a Roseville intersection, then continued on to a relative's house. There she threw large rocks through a window while threatening the residents, said police spokeswoman Dee Dee Gunther.
Orozco is charged in that incident with assault with a deadly weapon, criminal threats, vandalism, reckless driving, and hit-and-run.

Using a gun is a serious decision. You are responsible for anything or anyone else you might hit, even while protecting your life. Add to that that a prosecutor can make you pay into the 5-digit amounts without ever going to trial, even if you have all the proof in the world that you were justified (where you won't be able to recoup your costs) and avoiding setting off people who already look crazy is a good plan.
