Ron Paul Decries "Obscene" Paris Attack: Blames Bad Foreign Policy

Tyler Durden's picture

"This is pretty obscene," exclaims Ron Paul with regard the massacre in Paris, "libertarians are pretty annoyed by anybody who initiates violence." But, he adds, "I put blame on bad policy that we don’t fully understand," pointing out Western inability to see foreign policy from the attackers' perspective, as "they see us killing innocent people... that doesn't justify it... but it does explain it."

As Breitbart notes, on Wednesday’s “The Steve Malzberg Show” on NewsMax TV, former Rep. Ron Paul (R-TX) tied the Paris shooting, along with other Western domestic terrorist attacks to the bad foreign policies of those countries.

“Partially what the Secretary of State said is true,” Paul said. “This is pretty obscene, when it comes to violence, and libertarians are pretty annoyed by anybody who initiates violence.

“The context of things, France has been a target for many, many years, because they’ve been involved in foreign affairs in Libya, and they really prodded us along in — recently in Libya, but they’ve been involved in Algeria, so they’ve had attacks like this, you know, not infrequently,” he added.

“So, it does involve, you know, their foreign policy as well. When people do this, you know, the rejection of the violence has to be made, and with that I agree. I put blame on bad policy that we don’t fully understand, and we don’t understand what they’re doing because the people who are objecting to the foreign policy that we pursue, they do it from a different perspective.

They see us as attacking them, and killing innocent people, so yes, they, they have — this doesn’t justify, so don’t put those words in my mouth — it doesn’t justify, but it explains it.

Paul cited U.S. involvement in the Middle East that helped to inspire the rise of ISIS.

And this is why we say if we had somebody do to us what we have done to so many countries in the Middle East, and how many people we’ve killed, and sending over drones, and bombing, being involved in all these wars, and supporting dictators one week, and taking away the support — and the stupidity of us sending all those weapons into Syria, ending up in the hands of ISIS — and right now we’re even sending more weapons.

You know, because ISIS took all the American weapons. It’s that overall policy which invites retaliation, and they see us as intruders. But it’s a little bit more complex, you know, when they hit us, either here at home, and hit civilians, and what’s happening in France. But I don’t think you can divorce these instances from the overall foreign policy.”

Ron Paul focused on minutia.  “Water expands while freezing.”   Send a few bucks.

Ron Paul sometimes sounds idiotic.   Can he stop with the cliches for once?

As usual Ron gives a gentle history lesson to the Great American Unwashed ....France has been fighting Algeria since 1956.. and the Algerians have been fighting what they see as a righteous anti colonial war right back at em.  Cliche? ... hardly.

When I said yesterday France committed tons of atrocities in the Arabic-speaking Africa,  i received many thumbs down here. I believe perhaps many don't understand Newton's third law - for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.   In other words you simply can't expect there aren't going to be any blowbacks when you keep committing atrocities in another part of the world.

Newton's laws are part of physics.  I wish war and peace were as straightforward as physics.

War is very straightforward, it's about money.

And it has been ever since Menes appointed himself branch office manager in Thebes.

Money is but one factor imho.  Maybe in your mind it is all about money and you are projecting ?  Ever thought of honour, revenge, bloodthirst, desire to impress women, jealousy, thrill seeking, dignity, liberty, independence, religion, superstitions, madness, ...?

There have been a significant number of populists that have come to ZH and it has really shown this past year or so. That's likely why you got all those down arrows. It sucks, but that's life in the Fight Club I guess. Not everything can be a circlejerk.

That being said, comment threads like these show who the real libertarians are, and who came from Breitbart/The Blaze thinking they can believe in the next Red Team messiah.

My question is:

What is the difference between some elected or unelected offical in the US designated someone as a terrorist for breaking some US law, thus putting them on a drone kill list, which in the process kills un-numbered innocent bystanders

And

a muslim from a third world country saying someone in the west has broken a muslim law, thus putting that westerner on a hit list in which un-numbered innocent bystanders are killed?

It's all the same in my mind...

It's more a problem with religion is general.  When you have mentally ill people (i.e. people who believe there are invisible beings that live in the sky and do magic tricks) there is always the danger of violence.  Are Muslims that much different than the born again types who murder gynecologists because Yeshua wants to saves the fetuses?  Not really.  And that includes the bible thumpers who cheer them on.  Are they different from the racist IDF thugs who murder Palestianian children who are mere goyim and therefore aren't considered human?  These killers in Paris may be worse in terms of body count, but not in terms of inherent evil.  The problem is not Islam, it's religious superstition in all its flavors.

The French corpses are the fruit of Abraham's Poisionous Tree, and that includes all of its malignant branches.

The man who denies the existance of a God is just as bigoted and ignorant as the one who "knows" there is one.  The fact of the matter is, no one knows.  Nobody, including all the scientists in the world and all the religious leaders.  Most religions are nothing but a very logical argument based on the premise that there is a God while science is nothing but a very logical argument based on the premise that there is NO God.  Both are based on an assumed premise.  Science is simply our newest religion with millions of faithful followers and worshippers.

These two brothers were on the US No Fly List - but could freely go from France to known al-Qaeda strongholds, and even get locked up for 18 months as terrorists. The problem is that France did NOT toss these guys out of the country and keep them out. There is no such thing as a reformed terrorist!

A bit off-topic,but when the French Army officers were court-martialed for the Algerian army mutiny, the results were interesting:

1. Officers Colonel and above: retired or cashiered.

2.Major to Captain:ditto,and some prison.

3.Leutenant and below: stand against the wall here.Cigarette,Monsieur?

DeGaulle was pissed off at all the OAS attempts to whack him (and missed).

seems we got a lot of it's fake it's all fake..well from one who has seen it first hand- this is real..as for why and who directed it, you can have opinion on that ..for me it's just  the result of years of limited wars, illegal immigration, pandering to intolerant belief, and an elite international sociopathic cabal who gain power and wealth while bleeding the western middle class, by bought off corrupt leadership and security depts in western governments. the seeds of years of nwo cfr  bankster policy, are blooming.

Let's keep things in perspective, these were "journalist", they were liberal, left bastards - like the ones we have to endure over here, they probably supported unlimited immigration and degradation of French culutre, they probably supported Thought Crime laws, like prison time for denying the Holohoax - they were just dumb enough to think they could convert stone age Sand Savages into urbane, Zio worhiping lefties like themselves. I mean, too bad, but don't expect me to give a toss.

Understanding the reasons for extremism is not condoning it or immulating it,
Bombing innocent women and children does not win friends, in fact it fosters hatred. If you deny this your really stupid.

Explain the number of Jewish synagougues in Iran while defending your statement........

The center of Muslim extremism is Saudi. How about simply pull the plug on these pigs, unlink our dollar to their terrorist oil and crash this whole monetary system we use.
Do you really want to cut all ties with the worlds leader in beheading or just spew hate and ignorance ?

If its their religion how about get in bed with the Russians, they are Chrsitians ? Tie your pensions to Russian, Christian, oil and not invest your future in the pigs in the sandbox.....ready ?

Good Grief
