The Cost To Taxpayers Of Obama's Christmas In Paradise
Despite Janet Yellen’s best efforts to eradicate poverty in America by explaining why it’s important to be rich, we learned today, courtesy of the UMich Consumer Sentiment survey, that low-income citizens not only still exist, but they in fact spoiled the March print by feeling exactly 6.5% less optimistic about their situation than they did last month.
As depressing as that is, the good news is that according to the survey, rich people are still feeling optimistic about their buying plans (presumably because they have money). If you need further confirmation that things are still going well for some US citizens, consider the following, from Sputnik News:
The Obama family’s 2014 Christmas vacation to Hawaii cost taxpayers more than $3.6 million in flight expenses alone, according to Air Force records obtained by Judicial Watch.
The president grew up in Hawaii, and Christmas there is an annual family tradition. The most recent trip marked the seventh consecutive time the Obamas have spent the holidays in Hawaii – the sixth as the first family. All told, those Christmas vacations have cost taxpayers $15.5 million just in transportation expenses, according to figures obtained by Judicial Watch over the past three years…
Last July, Obama headed to the West Coast for a three-day fundraising tour on behalf of the Democratic National Committee. His visit to Seattle, San Francisco, and Los Angeles encompassed at least five fundraisers, including one where guests paid as much as $32,400 to attend.
While the funds raised during the trip went to the DNC, all American taxpayers were forced to foot the $2.4 million cost to transport the president.
You can do the math yourself on last year's excursion by adding up the flight time logged in the records of the first family’s Honolulu vacation and multiplying the total by the roughly $230,000/hour it costs to run Air Force One.
We wonder how many of the "lower-income" taxpayers that Richard Curtin blamed for spoiling the March Consumer Sentiment reading were fortunate enough to take a trip to paradise last Christmas.

Meh, let's not pretend that the current economy wasn't on this trajectory for a very long time. This isn't a rocket which just took off, it's been mid-flight for a while and it started in the 1970s.
Does that absolve the politicians? Absolutely not. In most cases their decisions* has just made a really horrible situation worse. I think it would be pretty incorrect to land all of the blame at Obama's feet. Afterall. The Ben Bernank, Greasepan, and Smellen have all been happily weaving their monetary magic while the corporates have been simultaneously gutting any real skills within the labor force.
*Mainly giving their bank bros under the table cash while also taking a share of the cut.

Apparently it is a cushy job - but it does irk me that he (and I'm sure his predecessors) mix business with self-promoting business. If he is performing fund-raising functions for the DNC then at the very least they should contribute towards the expenses. Perhaps the DNC should provide their own plane to accomadate his fund-raising.
yeah, this has driven me nuts for a while with presidents (and senators and reps) of both parties. if they happen to perform the slightest bit of "official duties", which usually involves making a random 15 minute speech on some nonsense, the entire cost of the trip is covered by taxpayers. basically, we're paying for them to fundraise for their campaigns.
it should be the other way around though. if you do any fundraising during your trip then the entire trip should be classified as fundraising, and have to be privately funded. if it's nothing but the duties of your office then fine, the public pays for it. but no more flying air force 1 across the country in 24 hours just to spend your lunch hour signing a bill at some high school, and then go to fundraisers for the rest of the time you're there.

Obama might of been born in Hawaii (jury is still out) but he did not grow up there. By the time he was 5, his fluzy mother had remarried and moved him to Indonesia where he had to give up his dual American/British citizenship and become Indonesian in order to attend public schools there. Minor detail for this article (and for the Constitution) but let's be factual.
Unless he renounced his US citizenship in front of a US citizenship judge and paid the appropriate exit fees, he's still a citizen. Ask the Facebook co-founder how difficult it was to no longer be a US citizen.
