Putin Security Council Slams Obama Attempts At "New World Order"
Moscow — which may or may not have to nuke Denmark — says the US has adopted a national security strategy that is decidedly anti-Russian. Although attempts to prove how “isolated” Putin truly is on the geopolitical stage haven’t fared very well of late (what with Russian bombers refueling at former U.S. air bases and Putin plotting Eurasian currency unions) and although Washington’s experience with China’s AIIB membership drive seems to indicate it may be the US that is in fact isolated, The Kremlin doesn’t think The White House is likely to give up on its attempts to ostracize Russia any time soon.
From a Russian Security Council statement entitled "About The US National Security Strategy":
In the long term, the United States, in cooperation with its allies will continue the policy of political and economic isolation of Russia, including limiting its ability to export energy and the displacement of all markets for military products, while making it difficult for the production of high-tech products in Russia.
Putin's security council then proceeds to deliver a remarkably accurate description of Washington’s foreign policy aims including the desire to show off NATO military capabilities (on full display along the Russian border currently), installing puppet governments and propping them up with financial and military support (which is precisely what’s going on now in Ukraine as the US is set to provide military assistance and also financial assistance via a Ukrainian bond issue back by the full faith and credit of the US government), and preserving US hegemony by taking unilateral action across the globe at Washington’s behest (something the US does all the time):
The Strategy emphasizes the US desire to proceed with the formation of a new global economic order. A special place in this order should take a Trans-Pacific Partnership and transatlantic trade and investment partnership that will enable the US central position in the free trade zones, covering two-thirds of the world economy.
The armed forces are considered as the basis of US national security and military superiority is considered a major factor in the American world leadership. While maintaining the continuity of the plants to use military force unilaterally and anywhere in the world, as well as to maintain a military presence abroad...
Significant efforts by the US and its allies will be directed to the formation of anti-Russian policy states, with which Russia has established partnership relations, as well as to reduce Russian influence in the former Soviet Union.
Continue the policy of preserving the global dominance of the United States, increasing the combat capabilities of NATO, as well as to strengthen the US military presence in the Asia-Tihokeanskom region. Military force will continue to be considered as the primary means of ensuring national security and interests of the United States.

We have identified three such cases in the relevant time period:On 3 March 2014 a close encounter occurred between a SAS passenger plane taking off from Copenhagen and a Russian reconnaissance aircraft which did not transmit its position. The incident happened 50 miles south east of Malmo. A collision was apparently avoided thanks only to good visibility and the alertness of the passenger plane pilots. The SAS 737 plane was carrying 132 passengers to Rome. Had these two planes collided with a major loss of civilian life comparable to the tragedy of flight MH17 over eastern Ukraine, the result would almost certainly have been a new round of western sanctions on Russia and increased NATO patrolling in the Baltic Sea but also, and perhaps more importantly, the classification of further un-logged or blind air activity over Europe as a possible threat to life requiring forceful pre-emptive interdiction.

an Estonian security service operative, Eston Kohver, was abducted by Russian agents from an Estonian border post, on Estonian, and therefore NATO, territory. He was later taken to Moscow and accused of espionage. The incident itself involved communications jamming and the use of smoke grenades, and took place immediately after President Obama’s visit to the region and his repetition of security assurances to the Baltic States. Had the incident resulted in loss of life there could have been dangerous and uncontrolled escalation.
Between 17-27 October 2014 a major submarine hunt by Swedish authorities was prompted by credible intelligence reports of “underwater activity” in the Stockholm archipelago in Swedish territorial waters. Supreme Commander General Sverker Göranson underlined that Sweden was ready to use “armed force” to bring the vessel to the surface if necessary. Russia issued denials and attempted to ridicule Swedish concerns. The major search operation stopped on Oct. 24. The Swedish military stated that “foreign underwater activity” had probably taken place, with at least one unidentified vessel involved. This incident represented the biggest anti-submarine operation in Sweden since the Cold War and increased Swedish concerns that more aggressive Russian surveillance and probing operations are under way in breach of international law. Had the submarine been found and force used by Swedish authorities, this may have resulted in casualties and a further Russian military response.Serious Incidents with Escalation Risk What we characterise in this report as serious incidents go beyond the previously established pattern of interaction and the near routine cases outlined below and involve close encounters of a more aggressive or unusually provocative nature. As such this category of incident brings a higher level of risk of escalation. We have identified 11 such serious incidents. They include 4 separate cases of the harassment of U.S. and Swedish reconnaissance planes in international airspace by armed Russian fighters; 2 cases of Russian aircraft conducting close overflights over U.S. and Canadian ships in the Black Sea; Russian aircraft violating Swedish airspace on a mock ‘bombing raid’ mission; a mock attack on the Danish island of Bornholm; the practicing of cruise missile attacks against the US mainland; boarding and detention of a Lithuanian fishing vessel accused of illegal fishing in the Barents Sea; and a massive outburst of Russian aviation activity along NATO borders in late October. Each of these incidents could have evolved into a more serious situation, both in terms of possible casualties or broader political and diplomatic consequences. More detail on each incident is presented below:
On 12 April 2014 an unarmed Russian fighter aircraft made 12 passes of the American warship the USS Cook in the Black Sea. Such aggressive behaviour, if repeated by an armed aircraft, could have resulted in the ship commander targeting the aircraft in an act of self-defence.
On April 23 2014 an armed Russian fighter undertook very threatening manoeuvres in the vicinity of an American reconnaissance aircraft in the Sea of Okhotsk. These manoeuvres involved demonstrating that the fighter was armed. Such behaviour is far removed from what would be expected in a relatively routine encounter.
In June 2014 armed Russian aircraft approached the heavily populated Danish island of Bornholm before breaking off in what appears to have been a simulated attack. The Danish intelligence service described the incident as “of a more offensive character than observed in recent years.”
On 18 July 2014 an American surveillance plane conducting operations near Kaliningrad was chased into Swedish air-space after being approached by Russian fighters. This evasive action took place without Sweden’s prior approval that the US aircraft could enter Swedish airspace.On 16 July 2014
an armed Russian aircraft intercepted a Swedish surveillance plane conducting operations between Gotland and Latvia in international airspace, and flew within 10 metres of the plane. This indicated a far more aggressive approach to intercepting aircraft than in previous encounters.
In early September, 2014 Russian strategic bombers in the Labrador Sea near Canada practiced cruise missile strikes on the United States. The Russian aircraft stayed outside of Canada’s ADIZ but this was still a provocative move in light of the NATO summit ongoing at the time. Cruise missiles launched from the Labrador Sea would have Ottawa, New York, Washington, Chicago, and the Norfolk Naval Base in range.
On 7 September 2014 HMCS Toronto (a frigate) was buzzed by a Russian aircraft in the Black Sea, with the plane coming within 300 metres of the warship. HMCS Toronto locked its radar on the Russian plane but took no further action as the aircraft was not armed. This incident coincided with larger Russian naval combat training activities near Sevastopol. Such aggressive behaviour, if repeated by an armed aircraft, could have resulted in the ship commander targeting the aircraft in an act of self-defence.
On 17 September 2014 two Russian military aircraft crossed into Swedish air-space south of the island of Oland. The Russian Su-24 bombers intentionally violated Swedish airspace possibly to test the capabilities of the air defence system strengthened after previous incidents. The Swedish Foreign Minister described the incident as the ‘most serious aerial incursion’ in years.
On 19 September 2014 Russian officers detained a Lithuanian shipping vessel in international waters in the Barents Sea, subsequently towing it to Murmansk. This represented a clear escalation in Russian attempts at the provocation and intimidation of the Baltic States.
On 3 October 2014 a Russian fighter flew “within metres” of Swedish surveillance aircraft in the Baltic in an incident deemed “unusually provocative”. A collision between the aircraft would have had serious repercussions for bilateral relations and increased military tensions across the entire Baltic area.
From 28-30 October 2014 Russia conducted a major air exercise in the North Sea, Atlantic, Black Sea and Baltic Sea. In a series of developments, aircraft from NATO states and partners tracked Russian long-range bombers conducting missions across this entire area, including a large formation of Russian fighters and bombers conducting missions over the Baltic Sea. All missions were conducted in international airspace but their scale and use of different kinds of aircraft and different zones of operation has added significantly to increased tensions between NATO and Russia.

Over the past year, Russia has seen an unprecedented rise in the activity of "Kremlin trolls" - bloggers allegedly paid by the state to criticise Ukraine and the West on social media and post favourable comments about the leadership in Moscow.
Though the existence and even whereabouts of the alleged "cyber army" are no secret, recent media reports appear to have revealed some details of how one of the tools of Russian propaganda operates on an everyday basis.
"Troll den"The Internet Research Agency ("Agentstvo Internet Issledovaniya") employs at least 400 people and occupies an unremarkable office in one of the residential areas in St Petersburg.
Behind the plain facade, however, there is a Kremlin "troll den", an investigative report by independent local newspaper Moy Rayon ("My District") suggests.
The organisation, which the paper ties to Yevgeny Prigozhin, a restaurateur with close links to President Vladimir Putin who allegedly pays bloggers to produce hundreds of comments on top news websites and manage multiple accounts on Twitter, LiveJournal and other social media platforms.
"[During one 12-hour shift] I had to write 126 comments under the posts written by people inside the building. And about 25 comments on pages of real people - in order to attract somebody's attention. And I had to write 10 blog posts," a former employee, Anton, told Radio Liberty.
Typical troll accounts, Moy Rayon noted, were operated by people posing as "housewives" and "disappointed US citizens".
To avert suspicions, the fake users sandwich political remarks between neutral articles on travelling, cooking and pets.
"My name is Tatyana and I'm a little friendly creature)). I'm interested in what is happening in the world, I also like travelling, arts and cinema," user "tuyqer898" wrote on her blog.
However, a leaked list of alleged Kremlin trolls published by liberal Novaya Gazeta newspaper suggests that "Tatyana" is in fact a fake account.
Strict guidelinesA collection of leaked documents, published by Moy Rayon, suggests that work at the "troll den" is strictly regulated by a set of guidelines.
Any blog post written by an agency employee, according to the leaked files, must contain "no fewer than 700 characters" during day shifts and "no fewer than 1,000 characters" on night shifts.
Use of graphics and keywords in the post's body and headline is also mandatory.
In addition to general guidelines, bloggers are also provided with "technical tasks" - keywords and talking points on specific issues, such as Ukraine, Russia's opposition and relations with the West.
One recent technical task, former employee Lena told Radio Liberty, was devoted to the murder of prominent Kremlin critic Boris Nemtsov.
"It was mandatory to convey the message to the people that Nemtsov's murder was a provocation ahead of the [opposition] march and that he was killed by his own associates," she said.
"As a result, hundreds and thousands of comments, where this idea is served up under different dressings, emerge under every news article of leading media," she added.
"Reverse censorship"Despite the efforts of the founders of the "troll den", some Russian experts are not convinced there is much point in the Kremlin having an online army.
"The efforts the paid crowd make to create a pseudo-patriotic and pro-government noise on the net go to waste," popular blogger Rustem Adagamov told St Petersburg-based news website Fontanka.ru.
"It is TV that changes the public conscience, rather than the internet," he added.
Internet expert Anton Nosik agrees. "Internet trolling is not, in the first place, aimed at effectiveness, that is at changing the political views of the audience," he told Moy Rayon newspaper.
But prominent journalist and Russia expert Peter Pomerantsev, however, believes Russia's efforts are aimed at confusing the audience, rather than convincing it.
"What Russians are trying to go for is kind of a reverse censorship," he told Ukrainian internet-based Hromadske TV ("Public TV"). They cannot censor the information space, but can "trash it with conspiracy theories and rumours", he argues.

There should be no doubt that the United States is far more powerful than Russia is today; but the United States has been wasting its military resources, as it obsesses over rebellions in Islamic lands (by Sunnis in some countries; and by Shiites in others). So, there could be a window of opportunity for Russia to decisively defeat the US military early in a war between them; but this window will close given enough time. Ultimately, Russia must take the initiative and strike at the US military before it makes the pivot from imperialism and repression of rebellions across the periphery, to global intensive warfare against a world-class foe like Russia. It is the same hard choice that Japan had to make in 1941 and fraught with as much risk.
Basically, the American ground combat forces have been splintered into small light combat units, and have been trained almost exclusively to fight small wars with impunity. They haven’t trained in large-scale mobile warfare in years. Bradley fighting vehicles have practically vanished from the tables of organization and equipment. Strykers are limited in both their ability to traverse rough terrain and water obstacles, and in their fire support role in mobile combat. The Abrams tanks are still among the best main battle tanks in the world; but the US Air Force doesn’t have a transport plane that can carry one. I really can’t even guess how many months it would take for US Army armored combat-ready units to appear on a battlefield in Eastern Europe.
The Air Force barely practices aerial combat at all. Besides, the USAF preference for stealth over speed and firepower limits their ability to attain air superiority over a battlefield. The A-8, A-10, F-15, F-16 and F-18 production lines are shut down while the F-35 is still not combat-worthy; and the oxygen problem in the F-22 has not been solved yet. The Air Force will have to rely on stealth and stand-off bombers, and cruise and ballistic missiles to carry the battle over the Russian heartland. If the S-400 and the coming S-500 systems are as good as the Russians claim, a US air war against Russia cannot be effective.
The US Navy, with its Marines included, is the most powerful fighting force on earth; and it will remain so far into the future. However, it is reasonable to expect that Russian combined air and naval forces can keep the US Navy out of the Baltic and Black seas and hold off attacks from the Arctic. The US Navy's heavy reliance on tech and carriers is very much accounted for by Ivan - which isn't to say the US Navy wouldnt own the seas globally.
But much of the US Navy would be at the bottom of the ocean in the first 10 days - and US Marines landing in the Russian Far East would soon find themselves being picked off quite steadily.
Which is why the US is not going to ever - ever send troops into Russia proper.
p.s. The mothballing of the A-10 seems to me... to have been a deliberate effort to stop producing a cost effective, very effective bird.

Mr. Delicious, it is okay to be a cheerleader -and a fanatic one at that- for whatever team or country you want to win, at sport or at war. But it is important to be realistic.
I have great sympathy and admiration for the Russian people, who are so ready to make sacrifices and fight for their country, and who have done so much in the way of conquest, exploration and scientific achievemnet. I believe that the world has to find a champion who can knock down the pig-headed zionist-controlled bully that our country has become. Preferably, it would be the American people who would do that themselves at the polls, by selecting a man of courage, vision, and with a resolve to restore the ideal that all men are created equal, endowed with unalienable rights, as the fundamental guiding principle of our republic. But I am trying to be realistic.
Clearly, Russia's army is superior to our own. The US Army cannot rely on its reserves and is disorganized for large scale warfare. And the Air Force cannot carry its primary weapons (tanks, self-propelled heavy artillery, and missile launchers) fast enough nor very far. Russia is ready to fight such a war. Our officers will have to rediscover how to fight mechanized battles. (This was not the case 15 years ago.)
I believe that Russia's air force possesses a qualitative advantage over our air force at this time, and that this advantage is likely to increase over the next 10-15 years. Recent air trials have demonstrated that current 4th generation + fighters of the Russian type are better at aerial combat than US fighters. But they are just as old and in need of replacement as their counterparts in the USAF. The next generation of Russian fighter attack aircraft appear to be better-suited to the real-world stress of aerial combat, because they emphasize speed, firepower, and maneuverability over stealth. But Russia can't make as many of them as America can make of their own. 2,400 mediocre-performing F-35s can offset 240 excellent Mig- and Su- fighters.
So here it is: Russian military is more than a match for US, provided that it fights on its terrain and the US has to marhall the resources to move its military to the fight; and take crash courses on tactics and logistics while on their way.
B-U-T .... The US Navy is always mobile and always ready for war. There are more combat aircraft at sea as I write this than there are in all but 3 air forces in the world in total (and one of those air forces is ours). In about 60 days from mobilization, the US Navy could double that number, thereby outnumbering the total combat aircraft available to Russia.
The Marine Corps is organized to fight small scale but very intense battles, using the sea as both a logistics base and as a refuge. In the Far East, Russia has to spread its ground forces over a vast land mass and rely on air transport to move reinfocements to wherever the Marines initiate the battle.
The US Navy has many more surface combat ships than Russia, as well as submarines.
So, while the United States ground forces are clearly inferior to Russia's, and its Air Force's ability to gain air superiority over Russia's is doubtful at best, Russia cannot fight these parts of America's military unless they traverse the Atlantic ocean and the Europe. Strategically, Russia is forced onto defense, like it or not.
A real war is very bloody, destructive, and tragic. America lost hundreds of ships including more than a dozen carriers to the Japanese. We should expect that Russian air and naval forces will exact a heavy toll on the US Navy during total war, but in the process its own navy will be destroyed.
Do not get your hopes up that the carriers will be sunk, although I am sure that a few of them will be during the conduct of war. Collectively they will have done their job; and at the end, the US Navy will still have more aircraft carriers than the rest of the world combined.
U-N-L-E-S-S..... Russia develops the means to sink the US aircraft carriers and amphibious carriers while they are in US ports, or during sea trials at the start of every deployment, when the crews are honing their skills, often learning new assignments. At any given time, about 2/3 of the Navy is in port or in sea trials.
If the American hegemon ever gets close to cornering Russia and forcing it to accept war or surrender, I expect that this proud and remarkable people will choose "Death Before Dishonor" (motto of Marine Force Recon). If they feel that they have reached their limit, I expect that they will go for the carriers first; but not at sea, where the crews will be at their sharpest and at full alert.

What this means is that they are projecting a typical negative reinforcement mentality. Europe and the US are societies built on constant aggression towards neighbors. Aggression like that is staved by building up a credible large counter force of allies and blocks, which causes fear of defeat and deescalation...your typical European balance of forces approach.
Russia is a defensive empire, that is, most wars or series of wars were not started by Russians but by enemies attacking or massing on Russia's borders. After 800 years of almost non-stop aggression by Europeans, Russia does not tolerate any enemy massing on her borders in what appears as a preparation for invasion or the creation of large scales basing areas as would be a US neo-con dominated Ukraine.This is also coupled with the Russian approach of not abandoning Russians (ethnic or cultural) and allies, as opposed to Anglo society where back stabbing allies when the opportunity to earn exists, is a prized skill.
As such, this is a spiral approach. Any escalation by the foreigners will lead to a direct escalation by Russia and not deescalation. Balance of power does not work when Russia feels her survival threatened. Enough of an enemy escalation in the hope of forcing Russia to back off will generate an exact opposite effect in generating a first strike and total war, as Russia feels her life and existence is threatened by the enemy.
Nothing like putting Russian society in a threatened siege mentality to force the individual chaotic Russian nature to crystallize into one direction: total destruction of the threat and the states that generate it."

Last time the factories were run by children, old people and women. Now with massive automation, even more of society is freed up to fight. Europe needs to find some German or Romanian veterans and ask them how much fun they had. Mamal Kurgan, the highest hill in Volgograd (Stalingrad) a 1,5 km sq area had 35,000 identifiable bodies on it, half of them German, after 4 months of fighting. That is more than both sides lost on the beaches of Normandy. In WW2 the Germans were on average having 1 soldier killed every 30 seconds. Figure 3-4 times as many wounded.
The present serving armies of NATO would be used up in 3-4 months. That would amount to almost a million and a half dead and wounded.
NATO would collapse. Greeks would refuse to fight. Serbs would be a war in the middle of all this. Cypriots would refuse to fight. Turkey would likely also refuse to die in a war they could only lose from. Bulgaria would probably have a revolution. Romania and Italy and Spain and Portugal would not long suffer heavy casualties before their unpopular governments were overthrown. France more than likely also. US couldn't fully concentrate their army as they would have to release their grip on all other sectors which in turn would be blowing up.
As for a second front, that is, if America was to invade the Russian far east, well, outside of grabbing Sakhalin and Vladivastok and Khabarovsk, all of which will cost hundreds of thousands of corpses, a US invasion force would be faced with a march of 3,000 km, or about 1,800 miles to the nearest major oil fields and forced to cover a land area larger than the continental United States, in wilderness terrain, with Russian partisans and the very cold Siberian winter (8 months long) filling the corpse lists on a daily basis. In other words, outside of a temporary land grab, nothing to fear.
Also if things got bad China would step in knowing they are next on the hit list, and thus Siberia would be fairly safe from US forces.
