"I'm Not Stupid" Monsanto Lobbyist Refuses To Drink Weedkiller After Proclaiming "It Won't Hurt You"
"Do as I say, not as I do," appears to be the message from a controversial lobbyist who claimed that the chemical in Monsanto’s Roundup weed killer was safe for humans refused to drink his own words when a French television journalist offered him a glass... "I'm not stupid," he proclaims... you be the judge...
In a preview of an upcoming documentary on French TV, Dr. Patrick Moore tells a Canal+ interviewer that glyphosate, the active ingredient in Roundup herbicide, was not increasing the rate of cancer in Argentina.
Entertaining transcript:
“You can drink a whole quart of it and it won’t hurt you,” Moore insists.
“You want to drink some?” the interviewer asks. “We have some here.”
“I’d be happy to, actually,” Moore replies, adding, “Not really. But I know it wouldn’t hurt me.”
“If you say so, I have some,” the interviewer presses.
“I’m not stupid,” Moore declares.
“So, it’s dangerous?” the interviewer concludes.
But Moore claims that Roundup is so safe that “people try to commit suicide” by drinking it, and they “fail regularly.”
“Tell the truth, it’s dangerous,” the interviewer says.
“It’s not dangerous to humans,” Moore remarks. “No, it’s not.”
“So, are you ready to drink one glass?” the interviewer continues to press.
“No, I’m not an idiot,” Moore says defiantly. “Interview me about golden rice, that’s what I’m talking about.”
At that point, Moore declares that the “interview is finished.”
“That’s a good way to solve things,” the interviewer quips.
“Jerk!” Moore grumbles as he storms off the set.

That's right. Don't forget biotech's intensive lobbying of the European Commision and EU. Also, the revolving door between the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA = EU's FDA) and biotech industry. Several times the European Parliament had to block an appointment to the EFSA of someone with connections to biotech.
Also, the so called Free Trade Agreement TTIP that is currently negotiated between the US and the EU (in secret) will try to push GMO down's Europe's throat.
Roundup alone is bad shit crazy but roundup resistent corns and grains are just outright evil.
Those corns and grains enter the food chain as feed for beef and hog. Also your daily bread and so many other food that are corn or wheat based.
Corn starch, corn syrop and so on
Hormones and other additives in the meat production are not even the worst of it.
People eat huge amounts of food in Europe as well as in North America.
Europe doesn't have whales for people. The North American food is a killer.
You got that right Walküre.
Correlation is not causality (but I beg to differer in the case of GMO) but ever since the introduction of GMO in the US obesity, diabetics, cancer, allergies and inflammatory diseases went off in the US.
I always thought that biotech does not conduct long term toxicological and epidemiological research into their GM products but actually they do. On us. Right now, for the last 20 years.
And my sister still puts her cell phone in her bra, after having breast cancer, because it is the "chemicals"... not anything she is doing....

RoundUp is good for you and vaccines are harmless.
This message brought to you by the people that lied about lead paint for 43 years and asbestos for 35 years.
And mercury amalgam fillings.
...Thalidomide, etc
The deal with mercury just amazes the ass off of me.
If you get caught throwing a tiny amount, even by accident, in a landfill the EPA will call you a criminal.
If you deliberately stuff it in people's teeth day in and day out the FDA will call you a dentist.
Then you've got individuals out there who will be quite militant in demanding everybody gets vaccinations or they are irresponsible, dangerous nuts. They don't care that it may or may not contain mercury (thimerosol) and dismiss things like autism out of hand.
I have no faith in humanity, I really don't.
Dentists are highly regulated in how to dispose of extra amalgam and contaminated items. Go figure. Apparently the only safe place to dispose of mercury is in the human mouth.
LOL! People freaking out over chemicals being harmful to humans. Learn to read and follow the directions.
Or also run in circles screaming about:
gasoline,
oil,
Aspirin,
antibiotics,
paint,
paint thinner,
alcohol,
bug spray,
detergent,
dish soap,
water (drink to much and it will kill you - Hyponatremia),
soda,
Windex,
and on,
and on,
and on...
So, it's OK to spray my garden with all this stuff? Thanks.
Yes. Follow the directions.
How many of those substances do u consume in your food daily?, soy and corn are in pretty much every processed food? soda yes, but people know it makes u sick if too much over too long a period and if its aspartame (nutrasweet) its even worse. there are unknown synergies in our foods and to rely on the companies testing the safety of their own products is wrong (additives, pesticides, GMOs), also the FDA and all ther depts are compromised.
Old Monsanto had a farm

Thats fucking incredible if you take the time to sing it.
My little 85 year old grandmother loves Roundup because all by herself she can keep her rural fencelines clean and purty. And guess what? After a few years of doing that, she no longer has to spray anymore, because NOTHING GROWS but moss on the chronically treated soil.
It makes your skin soft too.
Like a baby's bottom.
When I was 16 I worked for a landscaper that had a commerical contract for a large rustbelt industrial park. The guys that used roundup alot would get patches of hair growing on their skin where they spilled it. After that point I kept as far away as I could from that shit. Also the weeds that got sprayed over and over developed immunity, we eventually claimed we made a new type of thistle. The new type that grew was short, thick, and twisted up. Like some sort of spikey weed nightmare.
Long Live Frankenweeds, they will defeat monsanto eventually.
Are you suggesting that rubbing Roundup on your head can cure male pattern baldness? Better get long on Monsanto before the news breaks.
Baby bottoms are made soft by baby oil...you know petroleum distillates. Then there's baby powder...you know talc a metamorphic mineral that really messes up your lungs...
It all depends on how much you drink?
No one should be drinking too much water?
Water is bad for you?
I'm so confused.
"Water is bad for you?"
Yes, if not consumed in the proper doses water can, and will, kill you via Hyponatremia. Look it up.

Look jerks, Monsanta does its own non-long term testing, self regulation along with prior execs in the USDA ensuring staunch regulations means this is all phooie. They dont eat their own products at the office caffeteria, but that is just due to the huge organic farm lobby.

If I knew how to create a website I would make the following.
Buy your Monsanto glyphosate energy drink here. Look at all our natural GMO flavors. Safe for your kids, grandparents, and pets.....and best of all you can piss on the lawn and kill all your weeds.....
The World Health Organization WHO recently stated that Glyphosate is 'probable' carcinogenic. Monsanto of course denies this. Glyphosate has shown up in urine of men in Germany and in mothers' milk in the US. Glyphosate is a weed killer but weeds have developed resistance to it thereby becoming 'superweeds' that require every increasing amounts of combinations of herbicides to get rid off of them (and they survive). These herbicides end up in surface and groundwater. Also, Glyphosate is part of Roundup that is applied in combination with GMO that have been made resistant to Glyphosate so when a farmer sprays his fields with Roundup, the crops also get sprayed and absorb the herbicide. These crops get processed into animal fodder or worse, end up on your plate.
They also made some GMO that contain a pesticide called Bt. toxin (a toxic protein actually). When pest eat the GMO their intestines burst. Biotech developed something called 'smartstaxx' which contains 4 bt toxins and is made resistant to 2 herbicides. Also they want to introduce GMO that are resistant to the ingredients that were part of Agent Orange that was used in Vietnam as a defoliant.
In Asia several GMO such as eggplant have been taken off the market because it killed rats. Good as a ratkiller perhaps but not in case a child eats it.
Golden Rice (rice with added vitamin A which makes it appear yellow) is bullshit because one would need to eat huge amounts of the rice in order to get their daily required doses of Vitamin A. A mixed diet from multicultivation of vegetables and fruits makes more sense.
The thing is, the world does not need GMO. Biotech has been busy buying up producers of conventional seeds that have some characteristics such as drought resistance and then genetically modify these by adding Bt toxins and make them resistant to herbicides and then claim they have invented a drought resistant variety (while it already existed).
Google 'GMO myths and truths'. They explain it better than I can.
Monsanto is furious, that WHO does not source research which was funded by Monsanto.
http://www.reuters.com/article/2015/03/24/us-monsanto-herbicide-idUSKBN0...
They want retraction just like they managed to get retraction of the Seralini study about tumours in rats. They managed to get that study retracted after they managed to get an ex-Monsanto man aboard as head of the editors's team....Seralini's study in the meanwhile has been accepted by another magazine.
Your link says: "We question the quality of the assessment," Philip Miller, Monsanto vice president of global regulatory affairs, said on Tuesday in an interview. "The WHO has something to explain."
The WHO has nothing to explain. Monsanto has a whole lot to explain. They don't do proper testing themselves. Approval of their 'products' by the FDA is based on data provided by them. Cause the FDA has been 'deregulated' and downsized so they don't have the resources to conduct their own tests. So they rely of Monsanto's data....They only test GMO for 90 days max. Funny thing is that the Seralini study they attacked was in many ways a copy of a Monsanto test except they prolonged it.
@joe
the interesting thing about BT TOXINS is, that the new version for example in smart stax corn (stacked event= multiple genes introduced, up to 8 genes!) is producing up to 4kg of pesticides per ha, not figuring in any statistic. see benbrook report
http://www.enveurope.com/content/24/1/24
Thanks for this!
4kg pesticides per ha. WTF! That ends up in animals that eat fodder and then pass that on humans perhaps. Or it ends up in the environment.
Disgusting cunts..
Seriously guys roundups safe to drink and has no ill effects whatsoever, obamas been drinking it for years.

The reporter and anyone that gets worked up about this is an idiot. Of course a full glass of something is going to be bad for you, while in small quantities it will be just fine. [DON'T DO THE FOLLOWING!!!] If you fill a glass of hot water with a whole bunch of salt, it will kill you. But in small quantities, obviously not so much.
What the lunatic left fringe fails to realize is, if they weren't using glyphosate, they'd be using other stuff that is WAY more toxic. Or, we could go back to the 18th century and all work 4 acre plots in a subsistence agriculture economy.... after 75% of the population has died of starvation.
God people, grow up and get a clue.
Huh? The Lobbyist is a whore who gets caught lying. He says you could drink a gallon of the stuff and it wouldn't harm you. He then declines drinking a glass because he has no idea what it would do but he suspects it might be bad. So he is exposed lying on camera.
As for the rest of what the reporter claims, whatever. Fun to see a professional spin "doctor" with his pants down.
Seriously, please kill yourself.
Quantum leap yourself to the killing fields.
Stop talking sense.
its as if you say murder by axe is less cruel than murder by gun or whatever. the thing is, we got to change our behaviour, this kind of dealing with problems, shooting people, poisoning the earth, its just not working, its j.ust worsening the whole story.
we got the new technologies and the minds, to act much more intelligent, the thing is, we have to learn to share. a whole new system has to arise and hopefully will. its the people buying that stuff, that keep it going. the change has to come from within the society, a new kind of thinking and behaving. all over.
Are you guys fucking retarded? This is complete bollocks.
RoundUp Ready crops do not *PRODUCE* RoundUp. They are tolerant to it being used *ON THEM*.
Wash your products, as you would for organic, unless you like eating shit (or RoundUp).

They are on to your attempt to frame the argument as one of "plants producing roudnup". It is about roundup residues left on the plants. Residues that may not be possible to wash if absorbed by plant tissue or if present in processed products like flours our juices.
And since it's discovery in 1970 (and probable start of use), life expectancy has been...
http://www.cdc.gov/nchs/data/databriefs/db125_fig1.png
Still rising.
Correlation does not imply causation and you are changing the subject.
Yes what a healthy lot us mericans are.
I didn't imply RoundUp is the *cause* of life expectancy increasing.
I implied, that if it is so fucking awful, you'd expect to see at least a break from the trend.
It may be awful in other ways than a variation in life expectancies over a cherry picked time interval.
I didn't realize selecting the time period over which RoundUp has existed is "cherry picking".
It is. First, Roundup has not been used worldwide since its discovery. Two, the relevance of that timeframe is dubious. Some serious effects may take several generations to develop and they do in lab animals. You are taking one frame out of the reel and guessing how the movie ends.
Looks like the slope of the line is flattening. Do you know what that might mean?
So you assume the farmer washes grains. That not true. Farmers I know won't eat bread made from their own crops due to high pesticide residue that can't be washed off. You must also recognize that no long term studies have been done on GMO and Roundup. Right now autism and other learning disabilities are out of control. Roundup and other products miss with the microbes in your guts. Autistic kids who get better say "they we're living in a fog". It's like a course of antibiotics. Some people develop chronic disorders. So if it's not a short course of antibiotics but lifelong exposure to a product like Roundup that also messes up those microbes, expect more disorders. And that's what we're seeing.
Sounds even more tasty and good for you!
/s/
Considering the posts here about how RoundUp itself is bad for you, I'd say pointing out the difference is absolutely necessary.
Roundup is pretty great. It quickly becomes inert.
Roundup fucks up manganese bioavailability and generally screws up your microbiome. Worse, it has speeded up evolution of "superweeds" so that in just 20 years of application, spray concentrations 10 times higher than they were two decades ago don't work. That's why Monsanto has just debuted "Duo" which combines glyphosate with 2,4 D. Goddamnit, people, sterilizing living soil structures - which should harbor about seven million microorganisms per cubic inch - into moondust with this toxic salt is a horrific practice for which we'll pay dearly. NEVER eat shit from industrial ag. Sound, sustainable farming is the FOUNDATION OF HEALTH. My main message to America's youth would be "Stop caring about distracting bullshit and CARE ABOUT GOOD FARMING."
I don't disagree that it can accelerate weed evolution towards resistance, but that's not what this article is about.
Simultaneously, you could say the same thing about antibiotics or anti-viral meds, but their positives outweight their negatives.
Interventions that circumvent selection pressures tend to bite you in the ass eventually. Roundup's positives outweighed its negatives right up until they didn't. Antibiotics are headed in the same direction.
Lots of parallels between modern ag, modern medicine and modern fiscal engineering. An ethic that "nothing negative can be allowed to happen" tends to insure that, in the long run, truly horrific things will happen.
We need to stop trying to nerf the world.
Not the point. You act as if the negatives do not exist. If they are real acknowledge them first, then we could talk about pros vs cons.
do some research and get back to us
super bugs, super flues, super coughs and colds and so on
sure, no correlation to the increased use of drugs and surely no adaptation to the drugs by living virae?
increasing the dosage is not the answer
are you a Pharma rep?
OK, so this discussion is about a Lobbyist saying that drinking a quart of RoundUp is perfectly safe.
And then when he is asked to drink a quart, the douche-bag balks and storms off.
He's a shill LIAR for Monsanto.
Roundup applied as directed is inert in the soil. "Inert" because at that concentration plants can not uptake enough to harm them. Roundup residue takes a few years to break down completely in the soil. A high concentration Roundup spill will poison the site for years.
I do eat Roundup corn and Roundup soybeans ever day. I ain't died once. But when I do die, I'll be eaten once.
Ever drive by a roundup treated soybean field in the spring, before planting? Nothing grows on it. Nothing!
Now I suppose the farmer appreciates this, but to my mind it indicates something lifeless. Dead.
Pirate... -- some farmers 'pre harvest spray' their wheat about 10 days before harvesting the grain. No matter how I washed my loaf of bread, it made a soggy mess. Any suggestions?
So you're assuming your bread manufacturer doesn't wash their grains at all?
Its possible to assume so. Amd to question whether or not the grains themselves absorbed the roundup and cannot be washed.
Roundup is systemic in the plant that it is applied to, the seeds also. I welcome any tips that you can give me on how to wash my bread. I did not down vote you.
don't eat bread. there fixed it.
This is actually part of the feedback to farmers from Monsanto on how to increase yield for soybeans.
Pre-Spray RoundUp over the crops a week or so before harvesting.
The plants actually will 'takeup' more nutrients this way.
(not sure if I have to mention that part of the 'takeup' is the RoundUp)
Ok farmer, in Baltimore, you can eat organic food in the field no wash. All living organisms absorb substances from their environment, you cant wash it off.
It's a question of how much is absorbed. As others have noted, small quantities of substances over a long period of time can largely have a net non-detectable effect.
There are probably more trace amounts of mercury in your organic tuna than there is RoundUp in veggies.
And by the looks of ZH users, you cats must eat a shit ton of fish, because half of you are mad hatters.
No, that's not what it's a question of. What it's a question of, is that cocksucker saying explicitly that you could drink a quart of it, then not being willing to follow up his words with action.
I don't give a fuck whether and at what concentration Roundup is safe or dangerous - this asshole, pushing his agenda (or his corporate master's) made a bold claim to prove his point, then refused to back it up when called on it. Fuck all this redirection of the argument.
I'll give you that he's a total fucking hypocrit.
Simultaneously, drinking a quart is not real world use or consumption. Probably not even over an entire lifetime.
How much of it would you drink?
So why are hypocrcits like him allowed to hold high paying and influential positions in our society? This guy should be on the streets shoveling shit.
Dude... you forgot. you are on ZH...everything and I mean EVERYTHING has to be tied into some vast fucked up conspiracy. Fuck science and data. they are ALL on the take as well. down vote in 3, 2...
Did you even read the fucking transcript? The guy said you can drink a quart without harm, then he said he would drink it, then when push came to shove, he refused. Where's the fucking conspiracy?
(it sounds like a stupid brag said in the heat of the moment - and still quite off-topic for the safety of the product -as it's actually used-.)
i forgot to mention...I am stepping in for Million Dollar Bonus. ;)
We have a winner.
I'd like the context of the interview -- what prompted him to claim that you could drink a quart?
agree fche, and completely off topic of the interview! He was there to talk about Syngenta's Golden Rice , not Monsanto and Roundup. Nowhere in the source article Tyler uses does it say he is a MONSANTO lobbyist. While it may be true that this man has done lobbying for MONSANTO, he clearly states that he was there to talk about Golden Rice. Where is the connection between Monsanto and Golden Rice exactly? Tabloid journalism.
We're Not Stupid Tylers mighta got a few more clicks pointing out that Golden Rice is, last I checked, under management of the International Rice Research Institute, aided by a $20M grant from The Gates Foundation, with the goal of freeing the GE rice for public use (already done?). Sheesh

Genetically engineered crops, glyphosate and the deterioration of health in the United States of America

Abstract A huge increase in the incidence and prevalence of chronic diseases has been reported in the United States (US) over the last 20 years. Similar increases have been seen globally. The herbicide glyphosate was introduced in 1974 and its use is accelerating with the advent of herbicide-tolerant genetically engineered (GE) crops. Evidence is mounting that glyphosate interferes with many metabolic processes in plants and animals and glyphosate residues have been detected in both. Glyphosate disrupts the endocrine system and the balance of gut bacteria, it damages DNA and is a driver of mutations that lead to cancer.
In the present study, US government databases were searched for GE crop data, glyphosate application data and disease epidemiological data. Correlation analyses were then performed on a total of 22 diseases in these time-series data sets. The Pearson correlation coefficients are highly significant (< 10-5) between glyphosate applications and hypertension (R = 0.923), stroke (R = 0.925), diabetes prevalence (R = 0.971), diabetes incidence (R = 0.935), obesity (R = 0.962), lipoprotein metabolism disorder (R = 0.973), Alzheimer’s (R = 0.917), senile dementia (R = 0.994), Parkinson's (R = 0.875), multiple sclerosis (R = 0.828), autism (R = 0.989), inflammatory bowel disease (R = 0.938), intestinal infections (R = 0.974), end stage renal disease (R = 0.975), acute kidney failure (R = 0.978), cancers of the thyroid (R = 0.988), liver (R = 0.960), bladder (R = 0.981), pancreas (R = 0.918), kidney (R = 0.973) and myeloid leukaemia (R = 0.878).
and - strangely - the EPA stopped measuring the amounts of herbizide used for soya in US, just when the amounts were significantly rising. ups.
Is this like journalism?
Dumb on all accounts.
It's still a good idea to wash your vegetables before you cook or eat them.
What is it that you will wash off of your vegetables? Can one wash their vegetables in a dishwasher? Laundry machine?
Dirt. I wash dirt off my vegetables.
I suppose you could wash them in the dishwasher. I have a sink in my kitchen. I use that
Fine, but then don't claim its safe to drink a quart of pesticide.
Correct.
This is dumb on all accounts.
So how do you wash the genes? In a washing machine? Does the water rinse of the molecules to? Idiots.
It's always fun to listen to my opinionated in laws tell me they wash the sparay off GMO
They never looked up how Bt is spliced right into the gene of the plant.
My in laws are retarded.
I'm sure you win a lot of people over with your convincing arguments.
@catullus
i see, you allready ate too much of it, otherwise you would know, that the plant takes up the poison. you cant wash it away.
Monsanto is a member of the military industrial complex.
You are the experiment.
Golden Rice:
"The response from anti-GE organizations was savage. "Hoax." "Fool's gold." "Trojan Horse." "Deliberate deception." "Technical failure." "Useless application." "Threat to biodiversity." "Rip-off of the public trust." "Will clashwith the traditions associated with white rice." "Could lead to permanent brain damage." Even: "GE rice could, if introduced on a large scale, exacerbate malnutrition and undermine food security because it encourages a diet based on a single industrial staple food" - that one from Greenpeace in 2005"
."the Swiss corporation Syngenta entered the fray. Scientists there replaced one of the daffodil genes with a maize gene and got a twentyfold increase in beta-carotene in "golden rice 2.0" solving the vitamin A sufficiency problem [blindness in children, compromised immune deficiency leading to early death of one million young children each year]. ..."
" And, for those so inclined, whole new dimensions of things to worry about are on offer. GE crops will be left in the dustbin of outdated frets, like an old food fad:"Remember when we thought Bt corn was the end of the world?""

As long as the GM food doesn't cause tumor growth in humans after consumption, I'm satisfied.
So, show me the tests on human consumption.

Sweet.
How much is in our alleged "potable" "safe to drink" water?
i drank some tap water today and have for 40+ years... but somehow all that flouride and chlorine and people dumping pills down the toilet, wasn't enough to stop me from "waking up" and not being a "sheeple" as here I am...busting through the "matrix". down vote in 3, 2,...
Drinking it straight up is insane. It's a bit like saying - drink the equivalent of 3 gallons of organic orange juice in an hour. Will it kill you? Maybe - but it sure will wreak havoc on you digestive track.
Using Roundup away from your home garden is probably safe as well. I do not go around licking my driveway. Using Roundup on weeds in your home vegetable garden would be stupid.
The guy is an idiot for saying you can drink it.
The only real issues can be addressed by science (assuming you can find honest scientists without an agenda). Are there traces of Roundup in the foods that are grown? Is there Roundup in the runoff from farms using Roundup? Find this out, then you can address the good versus the bad.

My neighbors regulary spray Round-up on crops days before combining to kill the undergrowth of weeds, so they can no-till the next crop.
Mostly wheat, but other crops also...to dessicate them and avoid swathing.
The Round-up goes into the food system.
Corn and soybeans are routinely used as feed for our corporate farmed chicken, hogs and beef. They ingest the roundup infused feed and then we eat them.
For most people who eat the corporate farmed food here in the US it's more than trace amounts ingested.
But you see, the greenies aim is no less than to pare back the human population. Pursuing that objective, they have already been able to secretly foment the biggest mass murder since World War II by banning DDT. (Under the auspices of William Rucklehaus who was the head of the EPA for, that's right, Richard Milhous Nixon.)
See The American Spectator, "DDT, Fraud, and Tragedy: Why millions are dying of malaria, a disease all but extinct forty years ago" And J. Gordon Edwards, "DDT: A Case Study in Scientific Fraud"
The propoganda scares the hysterias that the greenies regularly omit, fit the exact same mold and all have the exact same goal.
Anybody remember NY Gov Hugh Carey offering to drink a glass of PCBs?
He drew ridicule in 1981 when he offered to drink a glass of toxic PCBs -- polychlorinated biphenyls -- from a contaminated state office building in Binghamton, a remark Carey later said he regretted as “reckless.”
... only one word comes to mind ... imbecile.
Why hasn't anyone hung this murderer yet?
This guy shills for the nuke and logging industries, too.
Tar and feathers, INDEED.
You think RoundUP is nasty, read up on Atrazine. I'd love to know how much cancer that shit has caused. Its nasty shit because its slow to break down (a big deal when dealing with any pesticide, herbicide, etc) and it actually volatilizes...the nasty cancer causer gets into the clouds and then when it rains...here comes the atrazine with the rainfall...yum. This is how pristine waters get nasty chemicals in them. But hey..don't stop with herbicides...check out fire retardants or nonstick coatings...
Drink or die.
Not saying that there are many here, but what kills me about the GMO shills is that if it was truly good for you they wouldn't burn through so much money to force it on you. You would gladly eat it. They wouldn't be fighting labeling, they would want to label everything with GMOs (if they are good for you). They wouldn't need the gubment to lie for them. This tells me their product isn't shit. Good products don't need massive ad compaigns, lobbying, and government harassment to get you to buy or else. Only shit products need that.
Monsanto lobbyist is a dickweed, so while RoundUp is not harmful to humans, it would be very deadly to him.
Agribusiness is corporate farming, itself a function of usurious money system. Financial capitalism will harvest body parts of broken companies and reassemble them into something they control.
Depressions are a systemic function of debt money system, as debt instrument demands more than the credit money it created. Credit money refluxes back to ledger for destruction, but the ledger always asks for more. Usury on a loan can make debt instrument demand 2 or 3X original loan amount.
This imbalance is usually dealt with by harvesting real assets from debtors. This means that indebted farmers have to give up their lands in order to clear out debts. Bankers need this “swap” mechanism, swapping real assets for debts, to happen as their debt money system requires it.
End result is companies like Monsanto, who are assembled from body parts of smaller farms and former small companies. Agribusiness means larger and larger farms. We now have a world driven by “making money,” but few people notice how money works.
Our banker credit money system makes national and international economies, and not local economies. The national and international economies in turn require the burning of fossil fuels (to transport goods), and easy exchange rates (one world government) to pay for and move goods through large supply chains.
Monsanto is an international company who could give a damn about local economies, or local food supplies. As such they are not wedded to food consumers, but instead to moneyed stock holders. Monsanto needs their patents and captured markets to in turn satisfy their stockholders and owners.
Change the money system:

Monsanto has steadfastly claimed that Roundup is harmless to animals and humans because the mechanism of action it uses (which allows it to kill weeds), called the shikimate pathway, is absent in all animals. However, the shikimate pathway IS present in bacteria, and that's the key to understanding how it causes such widespread systemic harm in both humans and animals.
The bacteria in your body outnumber your cells by 10 to 1. For every cell in your body, you have 10 microbes of various kinds, and all of them have the shikimate pathway, so they will all respond to the presence of glyphosate!
Glyphosate causes extreme disruption of the microbe's function and lifecycle. What's worse, glyphosate preferentially affects beneficial bacteria, allowing pathogens to overgrow and take over. At that point, your body also has to contend with the toxins produced by the pathogens

I left the USA 26 years ago and live in Europe. I have never been sick ONE day since leaving the USA.
Not sure if EU lets GMOs in their food but here in Aust all our food processors have being bought out by the regular food giants, at the same time ingredient substitution has been common. Would be interesting to see chronic illness charts of EU vs USA ove the 20 years since their introduction if the EU has not being exposed to them?
EU is currently GMO free,.....however
Monsanto is working feverishly to negate that EVERY way they can.
Even willing to help start a war with Russia so that the bread basket that is Ukraine can sell it's new GMO crop to the new 'allies' in Europe.
bastards.
@Haiku
EU IS NOT GMO FREE!!!!!!!!!!!
you have the new genmanipulationtechnologies, the system on the market is called clearfield, with the herbizide vantiga, all from BASF.
the thing is, it passed under the gmo radar, because it uses an old technique called mutagenesis, and now they can manipulate the gene quite precise with this technique, but the technique is not labelled as genmanipulation, but in fact it is hardcore-genmanipulation.

any idea about Italy, i believe they are pretty protective of their food and would not approve of it being tinkered with?
It all goes back to the supply of cheap credit.
You fucking pro-GMO guys on this site
You all (correctly) understrand economics as a system of millions of moving parts working in an open eco-system, and the complexity problems of trying to predict, let alone succssfully manage, the most basic of human econmic interactions.
But yet you think that a scientist, in a field less than 20 years old, can geneticlly modify an ogranism, an orginism that took god (or mother nature, or spaggti monster whatever) millions (billions?) of years to develop using evolution, and that it's perfectly safe and there would be no un-intended consequences?
You really think the internation of millions of genes in an open environment is any more controllabe or predictable than the human economy?
...but you think you know... *sigh*
I see the entire point sailed right over your horse head.
At this point the entirety of the other species on Earth are wagging their collective finger at "god" for putting their safety at risk by allowing those fucking sapian sapian humans to explode on the open environment.
un-intended consequences R us!
"Every few minutes, every one of the microbes in your body (and the ocean, and the soil, and the air)[probably add cryosphere] is defying precaution and the sacred, playing God, performing an act illegal in Europe - swapping genes around in the endless search for competitive or collaborative advantage. Profligate, totally careless genetic engineering has been standard practice for 3.5 billion years. Lynn Margulis describes the process..."

The food companies are rapidly getting the message from consumers.
Yesterday for the first time I saw "NON-GMO" labeling on Dole canned juice. I called them up and was told that their other products will be getting the labels--it takes a while to work through the system.
This is voluntary by Dole because they understand that it's a huge deal with consumers.
There is now NON-GMO labeling on my Silk soymilk carton.
None of this stuff was labeled a year ago.
The way to fight filthy fucking Monsanto is to call your food companies and ask if XYZ is GMO. If yes, tell them "That's a shame, I like XYZ--you're fired." If no, ask them why there is no label, and point out the marketing benefits of a non-GMO label.
Every company I called listened very carefully and answered the GMO question, except Con-Agra. They refused to tell me if a particular product is GMO. They said "Maybe it is, and maybe it isn't." I immediately dumped any product by Con-Agra--they have a huge list of common brands--and I stopped buying a dozen of their products that I had been buying forever. Then I wrote a letter to their board and told them so. That's how to deal with these bitchez.
Then again, cynical bastard that I have become, it could be these "Non-GMO"labeling companies looking to make a quick buck by selling their NON-GMO labels, not giving a twit whether or not there is truth in adverstising.
It's all about the mad rush to the money trough.
hard to find true NON GMO fields of corns, grains and beans inside the US
definitely hard to believe that the mass producers could all of a sudden source this much NON GMO supply to switch their products
A suprising amount of corp food has always been non-GMO. They just haven't labeled it as such. Yet. You have to call and ask.
For example, a year ago Silk told me that their soymilk products have never been GMO (even though soybeans are one of the most GMO-screwed foods). I said, why don't you tell everyone that--you'll sell more that way. Bingo.
And Trader Joe's website says that every Trader Joe-labeled product is guaranteed non-GMO. But it's not labeled on the package. Yet.
Good to know, thanks! I've been buying organic almond milk. Like the taste better anyway. Wondering where they get all the almonds from... Trader Joe's is where we do alot of our convenience shopping. Try coconut sugar if you haven't done so. We switched everything we could to a product made from coconut. Tastes better too!
But how the hell do we know that it is truly non GMO ???
The big corps could be lying when you call, but I doubt it. The consumer relations types don't give you their own opinions. The stick to a very controlled script on what is usually a recorded line. They are giving you the formal company line. I could be a consumer, or maybe I'm a big-name investigative reporter, and next week they find themselves on the 60 minutes lead story. They would have a lot to lose if they got caught. A huge class action in particular.
Once in a while they add the proviso that there may be some cross-contamination across fields where another company has GMO plants, just to cover their bases. Monsanto is so fucking out of control that they sue non-GMO farmers for GMO in their fields that Monsanto farmers have cross-contaminated! I think this is a case where the consumer tells the food companies what to do, the food companies tell big agra what to do, and agra tells Monsanto that the public won't buy their filthy toxic Frankenshit.
non-GMO has been around forever. The GMO stuff they sell on the store shelves now, was developed 20 years ago. With gene/DNA splicing, and animal/human/plant crosses - there are going to be some real frankenfoods coming out in the next couple of decades.
