Dash Cam Footage Shows Moments Before Policeman Shot Fleeing, Unarmed Man
Last weekend, a white South Carolina police officer shot a fleeing, unarmed black man 8 times in the back, further inflaming race relations in the country and raising fresh concerns about police misconduct. Now, the officials investigating the incident (which left 50-year old Walter Scott dead), have released the dashcam video from officer Michael Slager's patrol car which depicts the moments before Scott was killed.
Via NY Times:
The video begins with a traffic stop in a parking lot at an auto parts store. Officer Slager asks Mr. Scott for his identification and insurance paperwork. But Mr. Scott says that he has not yet purchased the vehicle — telling Officer Slager that he intends to do so soon — and that he does not have any documentation of insurance coverage.
Officer Slager, telling Mr. Scott “I’ll be right back with you,” returns to his patrol car. Mr. Scott soon emerges from his vehicle but returns to the driver’s seat at Officer Slager’s direction.
About 20 seconds later, though, Mr. Scott jumps from the car and flees on foot. Officer Slager follows, saying at one point, “Taser! Taser! Taser!”
Perhaps a South Carolina lawyer who spoke to the Times put it best:
“If a guy runs, officers will chase him. But you can’t just shoot a guy.”

I met a old guy here in town that had been a lawyer.
He hated cops.
He had one pull the same thing on him. Out in the boon docks, a deputy, pulled over as he is walking back to his car with his 22 rifle and targets.
The Deputy says real loud don't point that gun at me. He yells I have it in my hand with my other stuff.
Met another one that felt the same about cops here in town.
They both knew that cops can kill anyone they want. They even kill there own kind if they think your going to interfere with the local drug business.
I know a retired middle school principal that will never call cops.

Now cops do good things.
I see them all the time giving $100 tickets to bad people. Moms with two kids in the back, trying to get to work.

The prosecutors office generally whitewashes these "police unloading on senior citizens" cases before the day is over.
Unless another (ie Federal) prosecutors office steps in and makes a real show of it.
The NYT headline to this story is hilarious. It's about police confrontation is standard practice. What did the suspect do? He lied about everything before he ran. The officer did not get abusive or become confrontational with the driver.
Once the officer apprehended the guy we don't know what the conversation or actions were to lead up to the guy running again/

The didn't plant evidence. He retrieved the taser from the ground where the perp dropped it and placed it by the body. He moved the evidence and that will look bad to the jury but you should watch the video carefully before you comment on it.

That's the very definition of planting evidence. Not planting evidence is leaving the body undisturbed, and the taser, and ensuring full video evidence of the entire scene, photographs and witnesses to the entire situation NOT under threat of death or jail for being witnesses.
But that's not how police operate. If you are a witness to police murder you too shall be shot and a gun placed in YOUR hand after death that never was touched by you before.

He had a warrant for his arrest and would have been taken to jail and held ransom for not servicing his debt to the state's liking. I guess he didn't have any confidence that someone would sponsor his bail money. Know why? Because the state steals the bail paid by child support slaves, like it's a ransom or something. They don't give it back, like they would for mere criminals.
The message to what we're seeing here is pretty simple: The lower classes had better give the state what it wants. Or it might KILL you. Obedience.
A family judge can hold you in jail indefinitely for not paying child support - the system is totally warped.
I no longer support unlimited 2nd amendment rights. I now believe that cops should not be allowed to own or carry guns. On the other hand, all law abiding taxpaying citizens should have unlimited access to carry firearms for their self defense. There are exceptions of course - violent felons, mentally ill, drunken college students, Democrats, Neocon Republicans (anyone who voted for Mccain and who has not recanted their support certainly should not possess dangerous firearms)
The problem is that you can't disarm your police in a country where bearing arms is a right. You couldn't send your police into situations where everyone has weapons but them. If the citizenry is considered responsible enough to carry guns, then your police ought to be too.
The solution is to prohibit certain psychological profiles to work for LE. To weed OUT the problematic ones instead of disarming the good ones. ALL applicants should be screened for the various personality disorders that we shouldn't be arming, and if you don't 'pass', you don't work there, period.
And ALL cops should be tested for steroids on a regular basis, with failure meaning automatic 'off duty' status until you straighten it out. Gun gets turned in immediately. Maybe later they lose the badge too, but absolutely no gun!
Cops are a product of incompetent, immoral police chiefs who are generally appointed by corrupt, immoral, ignorant city council members -who are in turn elected by immoral, ignorant sheeple. We get what we deserve.
Good ideas, but impossible for the US government to execute, given its institutional constructs. For .gov, the US selects for the lowest common cognitive and critical thinking denominator. This is particularly true of law enforcement. Cops are ones who cant get work elsewhere, and will happily accept a decent pension for 20 years (of not-too-hard) work. And regular testing for steroids (or drugs-of-abuse)? Would be expensive, and you'd probably have to fire 20% of your force, nationwide. The psych profiling is good in concept, but .gov would use it wrong. They would use their diversity rainbow drive to establish quotas for bisexual trannies and use this as more important that whether the candidate was full psycho.
Another option would be 'desk-job for life' for any cop who kills someone.
The cop had his license, his car, knew who he was and where he lived. The warrant he had was for child support (not a violent crime). There was no need to shoot, chase, or even get out of the car. Simply call it in and have your guys go pick him up later.
It seems like an ego thing with the cop. The guy had the temerity to disobey and run, anger took over, and the cop goes completely over the top. Normal people don't overreact that way. But you know who does? Steroid users.
Too many of these cops are active steroid abusers...it goes with the ramped-up militarization and hyper-aggressive tactics. And it is a HUGE problem in police departments today.

Okay the video of the guy in the green shirt is horrible if it is authentic. But, in the latest video, asside from all of the rhetoric, there is a noticable absence in the video of an actual shooting. Did anyone else notice that. From the headlines it sounded like a slamdunk.

I read a lot of comments from people who obviously did not watch the video closely. The jury will watch the video with great attention to detail I am sure. I will let them decide what really happened and what justice is. Most of the commenters have forgotten that trial by jury is what is supposed to happen, not trial by Blog comments or doctored video on the news.

why doesn't the cop react to the guy with the camera? doesn't pay attention to this guy AT ALL. What do cops usually do in situations where they are being filmed? "Stop filming!" "Give me that phone!" Here? Nothing....
And last but not least... why is this video being ADVERTISED by CNN and major mainstream outlets? Eevry other police shooting video that shows improper officer conduct is released guerrilla style on the web. Not on national TV by a major network.

I was brought up that if you run from the police, expect the worse. Why run if you have nothing to hide. If the officer was being threatening, which it sure doesn't sound like that on the dash cam, then perhaps running may become an option. He ran cuz he was criminal, IMO. I'm sure there will be more hard evidence but will anyone care as it sounds like most on this site have their PC minds made up.

If found guilty this police officer MUST receive the DEATH SENTENCE. I do have to say that I don't think that it's so open and shut as most poeple are making it out to be. However I think it's only the difference between second degree murder and third degree. After watching the two videos there is something that happens between the end of the first video and the start of the second. Maybe a fight or struggle or something, maybe the dude did go for the cops taser, maybe not, but we can't see in the videos. The cop did chase him the first time so why would he not chase the second time? Maybe the guy did go for his taser, but didn't even get a hold of it, so after the cop murders the guy he realizes nobody would believe the guy grabbed the taser so he tried to plant evidence on the guys body. Cops are obviously sharp as a marble, even if the guy went for his taser, planting the evidence on the corpse is just making things look really bad for the cop.

Anyways cops in general have been acting way out of line for a long time. At this point i don't see any reason we shouldn't dissolve all police departments across the country. 95% of the time they are stealing from you, 2% of the time they kill your dog, 1% of the time they kill you, maybe 1-2% of the time they do any good.
