Caught On Tape: Cop Jumpkicks Suspect After Shooting Him

Tyler Durden's picture

As regular readers are no doubt aware, there’s been no shortage of “caught on tape” police moments over the past several months. Thanks to police cruiser dash cam video, bystander cell phone recordings, and in one case, aerial footage from a local San Bernardino news helicopter we’ve witnessed a South Carolina police officer shoot a fleeing, unarmed man in the back, watched as Arizona officers battled an invincible family band in a Wal-Mart parking lot, looked on incredulous as a US Marshall destroyed a citizen’s cell phone, and followed Sheriff’s Deputies through the desert as they chased (and subsequently beat) a man who fled on a stolen horse.

Today we bring you the following clip (circa 2012) from Texas Department of Public Safety trooper Abraham Martinez’s dash cam. Martinez was pursuing one Steven Gaydos whose crime was running a stop sign while driving a motorcycle on a suspended license and carrying two percocets in his pocket. After a high speed chase Martinez apparently decided to “disable” the bike by shooting it four times but unfortunately ended up shooting Gaydos instead. Realizing he was shot in the thigh Gaydos appears to pull over with the intent to surrender when, completely inexplicably, Martinez executes a running jumpkick to Gaydos’ midsection. Here’s the clip:

More from RT:

Apparently shooting a Texas motorcyclist in the thigh during a high-speed chase wasn’t enough for one state trooper, who ended up performing a leaping kick into the man’s lower body after eventually pulling him over.

The incident began after then-25-year-old Steven Gaydos ran a stop sign in Texas’ Chambers County. The case actually occurred back in December 2012, but only surfaced recently after the Austin American-Statesman newspaper conducted an investigation into how cops deal with fleeing suspects.

The chase was captured by Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) trooper Abraham Martinez’s dashcam as he raced behind Gaydos, yelling at him to pull over. Speeds of 130 miles per hour were reached during the chase and at one point, Martinez took out his gun and shot it four times in Gaydos’ direction.

Martinez said he was only aiming to “disable” the motorcycle, but he ended up striking Gaydos in his right thigh with one of the bullets.

Eventually, Gaydos could be seen slowing down as he reached an intersection and decided to pull over. However, as he tried to dismount from the bike, Martinez is seen jumping in the air towards him and kicking him in his left thigh.

Gaydos was taken to the ground and arrested. He was charged with evading arrest, driving with an invalid license and possessing two Percocet pills, the Statesman reported. Gaydos said at the time he knew the police were chasing him, but claimed he didn’t want to lose his bike because of a suspended license. He also questioned whether it was necessary for Martinez to shoot him.

And while that might seem like a reasonable question to ask if you’re Gaydos, Martinez would later explain that usually in these situations the suspect turns out to be a murderer or a rapist:

Past experience has taught me that people evade arrest to conceal their identity after committing felonious crimes to include but not limited to, murders, aggravated robberies, sexual assaults, burglaries, and/or the vehicle utilized to evade arrest is stolen,” he wrote regarding the incident, according to documents from his personnel file.

I imagine that the majority of police have adopted a "presumption of guilt" for every person they encounter on the job.

Just asking...Isn't this mindset a job requirement?  And along with this "requirement," wouldn't any confirmation (like speeding away at 130mph) put the police officer in attack mode?  We are seeing more and more police acting without restraint, like an attacking pit bull, once their mind flips into an all-out assault mode, I'm not sure if they are able to control themselves.

The only thing worse than having cops would be to NOT have cops.

Odd to see this story when we have real police abuse in Baltimore, and so many examples where cops need to be prosecuted. Driving a motorcycle at 130 mph and dealing with a cop - and you lived? This guy was lucky!

If you get into a high speed chase, and then don't immediately lay down when you surrender, you are begging to be jump kicked into the floor until you are immobilized.  The cop didn't know the guy was shot in the leg.  He could have taken off running.  I don't have a problem with this.

Nice.  Cop decides he probably committed a serious crime (a capital crime since he didn't seem to care if he killed the man) so he gets to be judge and executioner.

Please tell me this might set a limit on what you CAN'T do as a cop and keep your job.  Or at least stick him behind a desk.  With no bullets.

I think I mostly side with the cop on this one. If the guy is leading you on a high speed chase, you have a lot of reasons to be afraid of that suspect. He might be carrying a gun, he might be carrying a knife, he might be on drugs. Police are human too. They get scared. This is completely different from the case where a guy was already on the ground and was kicked in the head by police.

It's unfortunate, but think about it from the cop's perspective. You would be scared too.

Well you could obviously see that turd slipping from his pants leg as he jumped into the air, right? And I'm not sure I agree with the part about that 'guy' leading the leech on the high speed chase. Perhaps the leech was pushing the 'guy' on the high speed chase. Possibly that 'guy' was scared as hell too. Scared he would have his vehicle 'stolen by cop' because he didn't cross all the T's and dot every fucking I. And further, I really don't think he should have to, when plenty of other citizens aren't held accountable for much much greater crimes. Talk about dangers to society, what are bankers that bait and lie? Did you ever wonder how many people's mantal anguish and deaths they have caused? How about quack doctors? But have you ever heard of any being sent to jail, or chased down at high speeds? No, didn't think so.

What fucking risk? The individual was complying putting down the kick stand if he was going to shoot he would not have stopped. Fuck critical thought is scarce.

If cops are so fucking worried about being shot the answer seems simple don't be a fucking cop. It's part the job.

I can't imagine a conversation between firemen going something like:

"When I became a fireman I never thought I could get burned by fire"

What this is is what it is with all police: some punk pussy that used to get beat up as a kid who seeks out a profession where he/she/it can lord over someone when the target of their attention doesn't recognize their proclaimed infallibility and superiority it pisses them off reminding them of their former ass beatings and they feel compelled to attempt to establish their perceived dominance.

Try reading the article, which stated news paper, as part of a journalistic review of the administration was reviewing past incidents of police brutality.

That's why it surfaced.

Police have been abusing law abiding taxpayers for years. These incidences are being exposed because abuse of power doesn't just go away because the chief sweeps it under the rug.

For the same reason they still try NAZI criminals 70 years after their crimes were committed.

You should only be concerned by these revelations if you have something to hide.

What a complete asshat.  Let's contemplate here.  biker runs a stopsign.  Ok, yes flash the blues and see if he will pull over.  (Lots of us run stop signs to keep from having to put our feet down and back up again).  Biker doesn't pull over.  Biker grabs throttle and gives it a wristfull.  At this point, a rational person would realize that his 3000 lb cruiser has exactly ZERO chance of actually staying with the 300 lb motorcycle.  Rational people would shrug it off since running a stopsign is REALLY fucking minor in comparison to the rest of the events that transpired. The problem is, role crazy cops aren't rational.  In his mind it was perfectly acceptable to initiate a chase that put his 3000 lb steel cruiser into a highly dangerous situation, driving it at 130+ mph.  This, in its "danger to society" range is much worse than blowing a stopsign.  But oh no, our friend isn't done yet.  Then he decides to discharge his firearm 4 TIMES at a moving target, in complete disregard for what could be behind said target.  How is this somehow appropriate behavior in response to running a stopsign?  All it would have taken for this to go from stupidity and overzealous application of "the law" into a complete tragedy would have been some poor slob pulling out from a hidden side street and getting annihilated by the motorcycle or police cruiser or both.

Cops who act as this one has in this clip are drugged because no one in their right mind would assault with such vengence without having mentally altering drugs on board.

http://abcnews.go.com/US/story?id=3745740

"How do I deal with people who are in better shape than me and want to kill me?" said Sanders, who worked as a street cop in Los Angeles in the 1970s and saw steroid use soar in the 1990s.

Steroid use is on the rise, and not just among weight lifters and other athletes. An estimated 2.7 percent of all high school seniors have used steroids at least once, according to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, many of them women.

In the police community, cultural acceptance of bodybuilding and access to online suppliers make it easier for officers to obtain steroids. "

These cops are no better than zombie crank users and will end up on a couch, crying alligator tears due to side effects of this powerful drug.  Impotence is just one joyful reaction but damage to the heart muscle will send them into disability and then, we can find them on some thread whining about cut in benefits.

There was no need to do the drop kick as the biker was not acting aggressive otherwise he would have let the bike fall and run for cover or let the bullets fly. Copper could have just stood by his cruiser, gun ready, and have the suspect do the position.Even Dirty Harry didn't do that silly shit.

What is SO DUMB is this cop and others like him and the members of the miliary who fail to realize they are KICKING THEIR OWN ASSES.

Trained by Israel.  Deal with it.  Own it and fuck off.  It's a fact.

Lose/Lose.

- You Lose when you 'obey' peacefully and don't offer any resistance or threat.

- You Lose if you Do offer resistance or threaten.

To quote Gerald Celente:

The general idea is to obey and play along and use the system to reach enough goals. Once you are in position when the guards are not looking its time to attack.

if cop really wanted him dead, im sure he'd be dead with 8 bullets in him.  Cant blame the cop here, high speed chases are very dangerous, you have to take down the criminal however you can.  That the officer refrained from full use of deadly force is a credit to him.  I'm sure the criminal is glad he got thigh shot and kicked rather than be in the morgue with 8 bulltets in him.

Now, I'm not saying you won't get one anyway, but if you run you will definately get one.

If you think White cops are bad wait until you get people of color as cops on YOUR ass. White boy.

But chillingly, there are signs that one of the worst features of Mexico’s war on drugs—law enforcement officials on the take from drug lords—is becoming an American problem as well. Most press accounts focus on the drug-related violence that has migrated north into the United States. Far less widely reported is the infiltration and corruption of American law enforcement, according to Robert Killebrew, a retired U.S. Army colonel and senior fellow at the Washington-based Center for a New American Security. “This is a national security problem that does not yet have a name,” he wrote last fall in The National Strategy Forum Review. The drug lords, he tells me, are seeking to “hollow out our institutions, just as they have in Mexico.”

Corruption indictments and convictions linked to drug-trafficking organizations, known in police parlance as DTOs, are popping up in FBI press releases with disturbing frequency. In April, for instance, the U.S. Attorney’s office in the Southern District of Texas announced that Sergio Lopez Hernandez, a 40-year-old Customs and Border Protection inspector, had been convicted of drug trafficking, alien smuggling, and bribery. Hernandez pleaded guilty to accepting over $150,000 in bribes and to conspiring to sell cocaine and bring illegal aliens into the country.

"Daniels was stopped on U.S. Highway 59 outside Tenaha, near the Louisiana state line. [Texas] Police said he was driving 37 mph in a 35 mph zone. They hauled him off to jail and threatened him with money-laundering charges -- but offered to release him if he signed papers forfeiting his property.

"I actually thought this was a joke," Daniels told CNN. But he signed.

I was pulled over a while back by cops for no reason of any kind. Simply none at all. I was on a road I didn't know well looking for a way onto the freeway that was right overhead. They pulled me over, held me on the sidewalk with my hands behind my back, and went fishing. Searched my person, searched my car, and finding nothing sent me on my way with no explanation.

I felt like I had to submit to the search without question otherwise they would arrest me on the spot. It was a perfect time and place for it. I was very aware of what they were doing, and how it might have been staged to raise a reaction from me.

For no reason of any kind. Just no reason at all. None given not even "we're on the lookout for someone". They did not care.

I am very glad I said and did nothing at all. Just got in my car and drove away as straight as I could drive for as long as I could drive straight without any turns or anything at all, for a few miles, before I risked trying to find the freeway again.

Felt like I was dealing with a couple random Nazi storm troopers. Like in some WW2 action movie. I totally understand why some people panic and run. I absolutely understand why they do what seems like a crazy thing, and run. Cops can be scary mutherfuckers pulling scary stunts for no reason at all, except maybe to get a reaction so they can make you mad and shoot you for it. Stay away from the police. Stay far, far away from the police. Go the other way, but quietly. Or just stay very still until they pass. Don't stare at them or stop don't veer don't speed up don't slow down just don't so anything. Don't breathe. Don't look up. Don't look around. Keep walking slowly. If they stop you say yes sir and no sir and don't say or do anything else of any kind except that it's sir.

That's how any of us survive this.

I think before too long they'll be coming into our homes on random nights, pulling the same kind of stunt. Fishing expeditions, trying to get a rise, wanting to make you mad so you fuck up.  It's looking like it will become very ugly. You better have yourself mentally ready for when they do come or the surprize will trip you up and land you in jail, or worse the morgue.

I sure hope that you added their names, specifics, and crimes to your CAAPL list, treason list, for future trial and Retribution.

Liberty is a demand. Tyranny is submission.

(CAAPL) - Treason List

In addition to the Four Rs, the American people should be compiling a list, call it the Crimes Against the American People List (CAAPL)?? A list of known pol, crat, functionaries (funcs), and bankster criminals that they are aware of.

Oath violating and treasonous gun and badge thugs, corrupt pols and crats, thieving banksters, etc. should be placed on it. At a minimum, their names, victims, crimes, and positions, should be kept for future reference for accountability, trial, and punishment.

When the DC US finally collapses, these lists can then be used to root out the known criminals that will think that they can hide among their victims--no "Truth and Reconciliation," and no quarter.

You should never consent to a search, period.  Otherwise, I can understand why you behaved as you did... simply to get past the event with minimum probability of being killed or framed.

HOWEVER... to plan to remain in a place that has armed, roaming predators like that is FLAT OUT INSANE.  I don't care if you "have a good job".  I don't care if "your family and friends live nearby".  A human being who willingly puts themselves in a situation where they fully expect this will not only continue, but become much worse and spread into private homes... is FLAT OUT INSANE.

And yet, most humans are.

I am no fan of cops but look at the bigger picture. This kind of thing has been going on since cops were invented. It is a small percentage of cases.

So why now? Why every other day? The answer is simple. Once everybody buys in to police brutality they will nationalize our local police! It is all about control. Step two. Once police are nationalized - total local gun control by the feds - good bye guns!!

So the cop asks his to get off the bike and get on the ground. The suspect waits for a few Seconds then reaches down by his left leg for a few seconds And then starts to get off the bike.

From the perspective of the cop he could've been reaching for some weapon and not complying fast enough. Not to mention a high speed chase at that.

You run from the cops you pretty much deserve what you get.

And notice once again you only see a short period of this video and not the entire incident. You see, you have to carefully edit the videos to make it look like police brutality run amuck.

Nice try though Tyler's. You and GW should get collaborate and...wait a minute!
